    Two comments I'm anticipating seeing a lot of so I'll address here:
    1: You can't change Ashardalon's damage to Lightning if you upcast it above 3rd level: Correct! Should have mentioned that the fun Lightning tricks work great for enemy movement if/when you need it, but for damage purposes, we'd be staying Fire. We could, of course, have gone Sorc as I did in the "Alternate build" at the end for Transmute Spell Meta Magic, but I really wanted to get a familiar without taking a feat or another dip for it, and Scribes Wizards are just cool.
    2: Find Steed! Yeah, I actually recorded a long discussion about Find Steed but the vid was already over an hour so I cut it :). In a nutshell, the argument is: "Go Lore Bard or Pally, take Find Steed, cast Ashardalon's on yourself and now it's on your Mount too! Double Movement shenanigans!" I didn't go this route for a number of reasons, but the main one is this: if you stay on your mount, then great, you get extra movespeed from them so can potentially cover more ground. Arguably not really *necessary* as I discussed, but cool. Have to sacrifice other things to get there. If you dismount, and then you *both* move for extra Ashardalon's damage... that's potentially problematic. I'm guessing that most tables would say since it's the same spell you've cast on two creatures, that an enemy still wouldn't take damage from both you and your mount in the same turn. Would it likely let you cover more ground between the two of you? Sure. Double damage though? Maybe. Maybe not. And that's to say nothing of the tables that might interpret how your Steed actually works in game that might not allow for this (is it a controlled or independent mount? Will it just do what you want, especially if you're not riding it? Probably? But maybe not... etc. etc.)

      Well guess that just mean your scribe wizard must research Skie's Stride, so it deals lightning damage rather than fire. Using the name from the famous blue dragon of dragonlance... Lol

      @bobon123 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Am I missing something? Why wouldn't it work? Of course not at every level, but for example at 6th level you could use it with Chain Lightning, couldn't you?

      @riccardoromani9916 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I think you're wrong about point 1. Maybe it's a matter of wrong translation or what but, if you know a spell of the same level of the spell slot spent, you can change the damage to the type used in the known spell. Still, how many enemies resistant or immune to fire are you fighting?
      In any case, this sounds so cool! Great idea!

    • @DnDDeepDive
      @DnDDeepDive  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@riccardoromani9916 Thanks! I think the challenge is that we're told it has to be a Wizard spell, and we stopped learning Wizard spells when we stopped taking Wizard levels... but yes, I don't actually anticipate this being a big deal for most fights. If you want to move enemies around with lightning *or* you run into Fire resistant/immune enemies, no problem, Ashardalon's at the third level. Otherwise, stick with Fire and save your higher level slots for other shenanigans.

      Finally found the pinned comment it wasn't at the top like it should have been for me lol. Points taken on find steed, I forget it can be very confusing for a lot of people. I wish Wizards would put a mounted combat section in one of the new books and iron out all these problems with mounts in general, and by extension find steed/greater steed. the best we have is treantmonk's video and even that has to make some big assumptions about the rules for mounts.

    I actually have a recommendation for the race, Aasimar scourged. Since Ashardalon's stride is a bonus action it plays really well into this race. One creature will take extra damage from Ashardalon's stride equal to your level on each of your turns and creatures within 10ft of you will also take radiant damage equal to half your level, again no saving throws.
    As a scribe wizard you can also make all of the spell damage radiant for flavor. A messenger of the gods would be an excellent title for this character.

    I love that you've moved from "optimized fighter/barbarian" to "hey heres a cool concept lets make them very good at what they do". It makes it a lot easier as a dm to help my players build characters, and steal your ideas. Usually with newer players (almost everyone I've dm'd for), I have them indicate an idea as "pick a character you like from media and vibe you want to go for", not "okay sorcerer or bard or druid or cleric or warlock or blah blah". This kind of format means if they say "I want to be like a cage fighter", I can make sure that they can be really good in the situations that they want to be good at. Aka, I can get them addicted to the hype and the spotlight, and maybe, just MAYBE, create a consistent schedule. Among the races, I was expecting to hear about the Dhampir lineage. They also get a 35 ft. move speed, but also an equal climb speed that let’s them climb hands-free at 3rd level. Run across those walls and ceilings like a true Flash or Quicksilver. If you’re feeling squirrelly, be an aarakocra dhampir to also maintain a fly speed.
    Also thematically, don’t forget to learn Thunder Step as a 3rd level spell so you can deal Thunder damage, too. Sonic boom your enemies as you dash by them at blinding speeds.

    I mentioned it in the other video too, but since you didn't bring it up here, Dhampir is a really nice option for a flame stride build too, combining 35ft speed with free spiderclimb. Not as good as a flying race, but less likely to be banned on some tables and very flavorful for a runner if you can run on walls and ceiling without being a monk, and even end your turn there without falling down.

    I could see a world where your scribe book is essentially a magical atlas that guides the character through the world as effectively as possible. Always shifting the illustrations to match the desired outcome. In a Faerun setting I could see a potential storyline where Selune was intrigued by the character as she oversees "navigation, navigators, wanderers, questers, seekers". Alternatively, as some kind of career courier, the character was always a follower of Selune and slowly became more attuned to her powers over time.

It's not much but it saves 3 levels in Rogue. I went with Clockwork Soul Sorcerer for the CON save and Transmute Spell and took a level in Hexblade Warlock for the armor, shield, and weapon proficiency. After getting Ashardalon's Stride from Sorcerer, I also went Tempest Cleric. The Ashardalon cyclone followed by a lightning Fireball with max damage is so delicious!

    I'm about to introduce "Skat the Gnat" tomorrow night, a Scout/Battle Master. The concept is The World's Smallest, Fastest, & Most Annoying Tank. Rather than base his game on being able to deal out more damage faster than the opponent can take it, and absorb more damage than the opponent can dish out, his style of tanking is to get enemies chasing him all over the place, wasting actions by swinging at him and missing. I built him around the Skirmisher class feature.

    I love Order of Scribes SO MUCH, but this was a really fun take on the idea. The suggestions that they are essentially a courier for an organization of wizards is neat, just running around delivering components, scrolls, spell books, and information that needs to be sent physically.
    I was going to make a scribe wizard who is an old librarian Tortle who is notably NOT adventurer material and terrified of confrontation. She relies on sending her awakened spell book to fight on her behalf until she can't anymore, hiding around corners at every opportunity. When shit hits the fan, she drops a wall of fire around herself and dives into her shell, because she's terrified and nopes out of a bad situation. I really think you should consider find steed for this character.
    Find steed states that any spell which affects only you affects the steed as well and that you have a telepathic connection with the steed.
    Hence I assume you cast ash's stride on yourself and it also affects your steed doubling the damage as well as you will likely have more movespeed this way with far less investment.
    Also every DM I've ever had lets you control a mount on your turn and do stuff they can do but even otherwise due to how this mount is telepathically bonded and more intelligent you shouldn't have to train it and you could tell it before a fight that you want it to each turn hold its action to dash each turn giving you your action each turn and your bonus action as you won't be bonus action dashing and the spell is just your first turn.
    Plus this way you get to build a paladin multiclassed with a straight Spellcaster which I would say to go sorcerer and now yeah you have this combo but you also have the very powerful paladin sorcerer, probably 6paladin 14 sorc with no feat or class use.
    Tiefling flames of phelagos would increase the DPS by an extra 0.583 damage per d6 on average which is pretty big when you could be doing 12d6 to each target twice per turn so if three targets you are dealing 24*4.083*3 293 damage per round without use of action and without bonus action except first turn.
    Also you still have the ability to transmute spell if you wish to do lightning and you are a paladin sorcerer who can provide your pally aura and max charisma so be actually good at casting spells etc. Could also do this with some janky bard stuff, could get the numbers even bigger, quicker and use a greater mount, something like a griffon which 80 base fly speed.
    I could really imagine this as a hell paladin with a flaming steed kinda vibe.
    So yeah takes a bit longer to come on line but I think it might blow this out of the water.

    One interesting option I thought of, especially playing up to level 20.
    Instead of going Scout Rogue, going with 3 to 5 levels of Artificer Armorer Infiltrator. Between extra attack, ranged lightning damage, +5 movement, infusions, and being a heavy half caster (round up), you get more skill slots and CON Save proficiency. You could keep your hand available for semantic spell components as well. You would have to take into consideration how to incorporate booming blade use efficiently if going 5 levels artificer due to action economy.
    You could potentially look at dropping Wizard completely as well since Ashardalons Stride is on the Artificer spell list.

    • @jimmyreinstein9993
      @jimmyreinstein9993 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You would have to go artificer 9 for 3rd level spells though. They are half caster. Not full casters.

  • @sonicbelt
    @sonicbelt 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    This is an AMAZING build but I think you can make it even better! If you go Infiltrator Armorer instead of Cleric, you can take Sharpshooter, gain 5ft of extra movement and allows us to attack with INT, which will really help our spellcasting. Plus you can still use sneak attack, infusions, artificer spells, and flavor wise I think it fits ALOT better. Like using Magic armor and weapons to augment your speed powers 🏃‍♂️💨

    • @sonicbelt
      @sonicbelt 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure exactly the level progression here, but starting Artificer gets you CON saving throws so you don't need the Resilient feat. You could take Skill expert instead to +1 to INT and make up for the starting proficiencies from Rogue.

    • @sonicbelt
      @sonicbelt 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Or if you take the Guardian armor, you still deal the same damage as a rapier, BUT you make enemies have disadvantage on enemies that aren't you, making it a lot more likely to activate your skirmisher ability. You'd lose your sneak attack with this tho. But you'd probably still be doing damage more often since enemies would be much more likely to attack you. Not to mention with extra attack you could potentially impose this on multiple targets at the cost of using Booming blade. Or maybe if you have a REALLY nice DM, they'll still let you sneak attack.

    • @Trial88
      @Trial88 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do love the idea of an armorer using ashardalons stride. It’s one of my favorite spells and one of my favorite sub classes. However it doesn’t fit the theme of this specific character as well. That and the fact that artificer is a half caster so it limits your spell slot progression.
      If I were to do an armorer build with ashardalons stride I’d probably stick to 3 artificer levels and get a spell storing ring and give it to my flying homunculus servant to use as well. Then I’d probably go evocation wizard for overchannel to get an 8th level casting for 36 flat no save damage from stride for its duration. It’s not very good, but it’s fun. So the 3d6 from homunculus (assuming 3rd level casting into the ring and hitting three targets)+108+1d8+5 from your thunder gauntlet. Honestly not terrible. The only downside is that this isn’t sustainable and you can’t change damage tho to avoid resistance or immunity from strides base fire damage. The other argument would be that you use your action to hold for off turn movement because the flat damage from stride is better than the damage you’re getting on your action. Which in that case really means any class would be fine for those three levels other than evocation wizard. As such I’d still go rogue for free dash and miss out on infusions.

You could go Draconic Sorcerer to get AS, then go Vengance Paladin 7 to get the opportunity attack reaction feature which lets you move up to half your speed when an enemy provokes an OA. This would require a STR based build, possibly with PAM or sentinel in order to proc your reaction movement more often. It would let you keep slot progression during the paladin levels, grant extra attack, and let you smite with all the spell slots you’d have. After that you could go bard or something.

    honestly i've seen a lot of builds that try to JUST use ashardalon's stride and use the ready action to move as a reaction or beg their allies to use limited use spells/resources so they can do more ashardalon's damage, and they really just ignore absolutely everything else to do as much ashardalon's damage as possible
    and i've seen other builds that use blatantly illegal find steed jank nonsense (ashardalons affects other creatures with the fire trail so unfortunately it cant be used with find steed)
    im just glad this build isnt illegal and also holy crap you're a gish build that actually has a reason to throw out fireballs instead of just doing something else like attacking thanks to your channel divinity, and it can do SO MANY OTHER THINGS and the damage is so good
    finally, the first good and legal ashardalon's build i've ever seen and its also SO GOOD that its genuinely impressive

Maybe do a Kickstarter to fund it and gauge interest in something like that

  • @danielknight2872
    @danielknight2872 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    There are some issues with the build... First of all, love the build and its amazing. Great work with it! I love watching your channel. To the issues. 1) Awakened Spell Book: When you cast a wizard spell with a spell slot, you can temporarily replace its damage type with a type that appears in another spell in your spell book, which magically alters the spell’s formula for this casting only. The latter spell must be of the same level as the spell slot you expend. Going with 9 Cleric, 3 Rogue, and 5 Wizard means you will have 3rd level spells for wizard, 5th Level spells for Cleric, and 7th level spell slots. If you cast Ashardalon's Stride as a 7th level spell, you can only use fire for its damage as you won't have a 7th level spell of lightning available to use. Still not an issue if you want to roast the targets but because you are pushing the cleric features for increasing lightning damage, this is important. The dagger in the heart issue. In order to use AS with lightning or any other damage than fire; you can only cast it as a level 3 spell. Awakened spell book specifically states that you must have another spell of the same level you cast AS as in your spell book. Cleric's don't have spell books. They know all their spells and just have to prepare them. Now.... if you can get your DM to look past this... you can cast AS as a 5th level spell and use lightning damage, because you have the domain spell call lightning. If you were to go bladesinger and take the metamagic feat, you can take transmutate and that would resolve the issue and give you access to using 7th level spell slots with it with 1 point to transmutate it. Also, bladesinger would provide some better offensive attacks, higher ac, 10+ ft speed, bonus to Con Saves, and advantage on acrobatics checks. If you want to stay with the Scribes wizard, I would change the build to 8 Wizard, 3 Rogue, and 6 Cleric and then at least you can get a 4th level spell off and still get Destructive Wrath & Thunderbolt. Or forgo the rogue levels and just take 9 Wizard, 8 cleric. I would go the route of Fighter 3 (Battlemaster/Rune Knight) 11 Bladesinger, 3 Scout, or Fighter 1, 13 Bladesinger, 3 Scout (Take Metamagic Feat as well)

    Great Build as always, but I have an alternative to propose: Bard Lore, lvl 6 Additional Magical Secrets: Ashardalon's Stride + Find Steed. Now when you cast Ashardalon's Stride you also target your Steed if Mounted, effectively doubling the damage done and using the extra speed of your mount. At higher level replace with Find Greater Steed to have more speed and flying movement and take the Feat (maybe even at lvl 1 with custom lineage or variant human) Metamagic Adept to change the damage type of the spell. I think the flavor is extra spicy.
    You could potentially take 3 lvl Rogue Scout and dismount to increase the damage to an absurd level (but I find this strategy cheesy and not as flavorful as the double blaze you leave with your steed).

    If your DM works with you on this, I think halfling would be the best race for this, because you could run around, (in their spaces) and push them 10 feet UP since you would be running under them. I imagine this as the flash running through and area and everyone getting thrown up into the air as lightning arcs between them. They would then take fall damage in addition to the regular damage for an extra 1d6 in damage.

I have gone down a rabbit how often a sneaky caster that uses pass wall spell to get into places. You should consider a sneaky spellcaster build with the goal of getting to pass wall spell. Using rouge and/or bard give you expertise in all the good rouge skills. Using eloquence bard is also nice if you get caught or need to do some convincing.

Along with booming blade, try for a lightning/thunder based theme

  • @JohnvanCapel

    Things that make this spell really good:
    - The damage just happens. No save, no attack, nothing. Even if you're casting the spell for the movement speed and lack of opportunity attacks, freebie damage is another neat incentive for things to stay away from you.
    - Upcasting increases both the move speed and the damage (which, again, enemies just take with no save). It scales *really* well too.
    - You can stack it with other, non-concentration movement buffs to reach more enemies with it. Even at base level, stacking it with a Longstrider spell means you've doubled your movement - and with no opportunity attacks, that drive-by burning is tempting.
    - Doesn't prevent you from doing something *while* drive-by burning enemies. Sure, you can't cast another concentration spell, but that's still plenty of blasting and no-concentration buff/debuff options you can use while dealing free damage.

    Another thing to consider: Lore bard can take both Ashardalon's Stride and Find Steed at level 6. Cast Stride while on steed, then unmount. Now both you and your steed can damage enemies with Ashardalon's Stride as you have 2 different turns. Even better your steed could also ready the dash action and use AS again giving you 4 possible procs of this autodamage per round. Absolutely terrifying.
    Though it is dependant of your DM interpretation of who is targetted by this spell: you as a recepient of the buff, or enemies that take damage from it.

    Colby, this build is phenomenal!
    I definitely plan on trying this. The image you painted of a small goblin-esque character with an enormous grin while enemies behind them are flying about in slow motion (a la sonic the hedgehog/quicksilver) is pure comedy.
    Your comment early in the video where you said stacking movespeed doesnt have much practical application got me thinking about a build which I believe would be right up your street: it's a half elf (wood elf) monk 14/ranger 6 that utilises a combination of the metamagic adept feat (specifically for quickened), the spike growth spell and as much movespeed as possible to grapple an enemy (or 4) over the spikes. It synergises rather nicely because gloomstalker rangers gets an extra 10ft on their first round of combat as well as the longstrider spell, astral self monks let's you grapple more than 2 enemies as well a boatload of movespeed and step of the wind, mobile adds 10ft movement.
    You can technically do it as early as level 7 with ranger 5 and monk 2 (because that's when you get SG and ki points for monks double dash).
    Against just 1 enemy your first turn would be bonus action spike growth -> attack -> grapple -> movement
    Then for every turn after, as long as you have ki points, your action and bonus action become the dash and double dash actions.
    If you ONLY count the spike damage then my calculations tell me that at level 7 on turn 1 the spikes alone do 30 damage, then turn 2 onwards they do 80 damage.
    At 17, the spikes alone on turn 1 do 45 damage and 120 damage per turn thereafter!
    I realise I've written a lot here so I can send you it by dm if you want (yeah there's more to it), or, if this is enough to get your brain juices flowing then that's cool too!

    I've been working on a similar build lately. I think I've settled on Armorer Artificer 11/Tempest Cleric 9 for mine. Take the Metamagic Adept feat to turn Ashardalon's into lightning damage twice a day. For those two encounters, I'd go Infiltrator Armor and I think just ready a dash action each turn. You'll also have lightning damage on demand to push people at range if you don't want to trigger Ashardalon's twice. Then when you're out of metamagic you swap to the other armor set on a short rest. If you blow the Channel Divinity on a crit with Booming Blade on the thunder gauntlets with Divine Strike you're doing some shockingly good burst damage. Currently the plan is Armorer to 5, 9 levels of Tempest Cleric, then up to 11 in Armorer.

    Idk if someone said this already but in regard to the full caster build, you could start cleric for extra armor proficiencies and take straight storm sorcerery levels from 2-6. Then you could build on mainly wisdom by taking druid initiate or a level in druid to get long strider, thunderclap, and Shillelagh. After all that you could still use booming blade and launch melee enemies with thunderbolt strike if it would be worth more than holding your action to run around all with 18 AC.

I was sad because of how it happened (he survived the +500 ft. fall but without spoilers something killed him cinematically down there) but now that I created a character based on this build I'm more than happy with the result. Made some changes as starting at lvl 7 (2 rogue/5 clockwork soul sorcerer) as a small Owin with an owl familiar (strixhaven initiate) would let me start with CON save proficiency and do the lightning tricks even when upcasting over 3rd lvl spells. One note on the "requires an enemy within 5 ft of you" to work, is that you could ready an action to move. You mention it on the full-caster at the end, but it's also applicable to the rogue variant if needed (might be better to do the stride damage rather than BB).
    I do want to throw out an alternative build - sorcerer with a hexblade dip does actually seem like it'd work nicely. Hexblade gives the armor proficiency and martial proficiencies, and hexblade's curse *does* apply to Ashardalon's stride as far as I can see. You do lose out on the tempest-y aspects, which isn't necessarily the best, but you could still go (on your normal round) "move -> quicken spell BB -> readied action to move" and get similar results as this, while still getting essentially full sorcerer progression. It does make the stride damage work a little more reliably against a low-ish, single target enemy, and better CON save proficiency + transmute spell + focusing on CHA means it's going to be a better spellcaster if required. I don't know if it's necessarily better, by any means, but I think it's worth throwing out there. If going that route, Rogue 3 obviously is still an option there for the reaction movement, which could be worth picking up at some point too (dodging with your action could be worth it in that case, for survivability, while still being able to reaction move)
    Race wise, Aasimar could be an interesting choice - you guarantee dmg with stride, so adding +LVL in DPR to your primary target isn't *nothing*.

    New Twist:
    Shadow Sorcerer (however many you can spare)
    +
    Graviturgy Wizard (6)
    Turn 1 you cast ashardalon's stride, move into as many enemies as you can, then use your action to hold your movement till your teammate's turn. (if you can summon phantasmal steed beforehand, enjoy the 100-120 movement speed).
    Your reaction grants you full movement. If you are on your steed with movement should let you hit every enemy on the battlefield.
    On subsequent turns you can move, hold action to move, and then quicken booming blade to both hit and move an enemy 5 feet away from you (gravity well class feature). Or you can quicken immovable object for endless shenanigans.
    If your ally has the telepathic feat, they can move you into an enemy's range for one extra proc.
    Transmute metamagic makes it so that ashardalon's stride is always relevant for damage.
    There are two extra combos between shadow sorcerer and graviturgy wizard:
    1. Adjust density (Wizard ability) to give an enemy disadvantage on strength checks. Summon your hound of ill omen (Sorc ability) to give it a strength save or be knocked prone.
    2. Summon hound of ill omen as a bonus action, then cast sapping sting to give it a con save with disadvantage with being knocked prone on a fail.

    A way I took this build that focuses more on the rogue side is to take rogue 1, then go 5 levels into divine soul sorcerer and filling your spells known with utility cleric spells, then taking metamagic adept at sorcerer 4 to make sure you have a maximum of 7 points available in your pool by the time you hit sorcerer 5. At this point, you can convert all of your spell slots into 5th level slots to upcast Stride, basically turning the 3d6 sneak attack damage you would get from taking 5 rogue levels into damage against every single enemy on the battlefield. Because you don't need to dip into wisdom for the cleric multiclass with this build, I actually went swashbuckler for the ability to add charisma to your initiative (the speedster has to go first, right?) and being able to get sneak attack on solo enemies that are far away before speeding back to safety. 4 5th level slots should be more than enough to get you through a day of adventuring, and you almost become something more like a warlock when you play the character like this.

    I know im late to the party here BUT one of the coolest things about ash's stride is that you can light things on fire without using an action or bonus action right. So I think this spell becomes really powerful when you combine it with oil flasks. oil flasks can be thrown as an attack action and shatter on impact drenching them in oil doing an extra flat 5 on to of your 1d6 fire damage AND whatever your improvised weapon damage is so maybe its a d4 but it could be even more than that if you take the right feats and traits. you could thrown oil flasks at peoples faces and then light them on fire as you move by thats pretty good at low levels and far far better than just throwing a dagger,javelin or spear.

I suggest using a Zealot Barbarian paired with the Celestial Warlock cause it makes sense thematically and Celestial Warlocks can heal without casting spells (using the first level Healing Light Celestial Warlock Feature) thus you can rage whilst you heal and it only costs your bonus action. The only problem with this is keeping up the rage cause you have to take or deal damage buut since you're a tank then there shouldn't be a problem with front-lining. It would also kind of act as a taunt because the enemies would want to target the healer even if they are a tank. Let me know your thoughts and take care.

      @@DnDDeepDive probably take a lot of nonconcentration long duration buff spells and out of combat utility spells, definitely go pact of the blade too so you can get the eldritch smite to use your spell slots for something in combat while raging

      Armour of Agathys also stacks nicely with Barbarian.

      Have you considered going with an Barbarian/Artillerist instead? It is temporary hp, but the Protector’s Cannon is a decent bonus action 'heal' for a barbarian - flavor the cannon however you want since it is not the damage options.
      Outside of combat, the multi class will still have access to healing spells like Cure Wounds.

      Three levels into thief rogue and the Healer’s feat would be nice as well for a non-magical option. I also like the imagery of the barb y comically large syringes to inject their party members with if they go down

    I love this so much. Here's my initial thoughts on character story:
    -Custom Lineage Kobold
    -Starts off as a thief/outcast
    -Finds steals an ancient tome/spellbook of some sort with imagery of dragons, but they can't read so they seek out a wizard to train them
    -Through study and practice, they gain an understanding of the tome as a religious artifact of a lost Sapphire dragon god, and devote their life to holy service

    our group talked about this, because your video made me wanna, and discuss it... at our table, the cleric dmg boon for channel divinity... we decided the max dmg boost would work on ashardalons, for each target hit, only during the round in which you activate the channel divinity, so one really good round when you hit a bunch of folks... but yeah, its still likely better on a fireball or cone of cold are more beneficial dmg wise

    Got to try a Sorcerer Variant in a one shot recently. Had so much fun zipping around the battlefield shocking my enemies and controlling the battlefield

    I used Ashardalons Stride with a Bladesinger in Frost Maiden, once we got to the Hunger Caves, that Vampire Hyena just wasn't fast enough to escape his death, neither did the 12 shadows.

    I think destructive wrath + ashardalon stride deals max damage to every target the round you use destructive wrath. So 5th level spell version maxes to 18 damage and 3d6 on subsequent rounds.

    I really like this build, I think it's my favorite one you've done. What do you think of using Dhampir for the race to give you movement across walls and ceilings and increase speed by +5. You could choose a small race to still take Squat Nimbleness.

    A Centaur with Ashardalon's can easily use the charge feature each turn, which is nice. 60ft of movement and immunity to attacks of opportunity lets you easily move 30 ft in a straight line by backing up and running forward again. Could be very good if you wanted to run a Strength based version of this build by playing a Ranger or an Eldritch Knight.

      haha I imagine a centaur just running back and forth into the enemy every turn like a battering ram.

    When I first read the spell, I defintely got a much different idea for a character than what you made hear, though your's is stellar as always. I very saw more power and ferocity rather than speed and nimbleness.
    For my Ashardalon's Strider character, I'dd make them a Centaur, start off as a Fighter, then go 2 levels of Rogue for Cunning Action, and then straight down to 5 levels of Sorcerer, prolly with Draconic Sorcerer, or maybe the pyromancer or phoenix one if the DM would allow it. From there, depending on how reliant on the character's martial capabilities and need for further utility, you'd might slap another fighter level on for Action Surge in those dire moments you need it, and maybe up to 5 levels of Rogue for better sneak attack, Uncanny Doge, Swashbuckler to get more out of the Charisma and an ASI, and then the rest of the way go Sorcerer for more fire.
    They'd use a Rapier, and maybe also a shield once they pick up the Warcaster feat. They get most of their damage from like Green-Flame Blade or Booming Blade, and then occationally throw down a fireball or burning hands or such when needed. They would be using Strength, primarily because I think its cool, so heavy armor would be what they are wielding.
    Depending on how the levels turn out, I might double down and take a loss to the Charisma just to get Mobile. It's extremely redudant, especially if Swashbuckler is also on that character, but being fast is pretty funny.
    This character would be a huge behemoth, with flaming hoofs, storming between the enemies with viscous burning attacks and fire magic. Their Concentration save with both Proficiency and advantage would be huge, they'd have a good varying arsenal of spells and tricks, and most of all, it just sounds super fucking fun to play this massive, burning monster trembling towards the enemies with blades and magic.

    oooh nice use of the "Squat nimbleness" feat, given the current rules for a small-sized custom lineage character !!!

    I like the idea of the cleric multi-class being something that the character did not necessarily want. I'd imagined some sort of God of Travelers or speed like Hermes or Nike might see this character and say hey, that's my champion.

    Cleric Multiclass Concept - (Assuming Ashardalon's has been cast with thunder damage type) Sitting in the great Hall of the Valiant, mighty Kord sits down to enjoy a well-earned (aren't they all) stein of mead when a thunderous quake spills the drink all over his hand. Glaring menacingly over at Thor, who glances down at Mjolnir and shrugs, Kord once again attempts to drink his mead. Again, a second quake steals the mead from his lips. Enraged, Kord throws his stein against the walls, grabs his greatsword and planeshifts to the origin of the noise. There he spies a green blur, blasting a path through tall grass and sending echoing shockwaves across the land.
    "Halt, cur!" Kord bellows, bringing the green menace to a grinding halt. Now visible, Kord sees a panting goblin in leather armor standing before him.
    Scowling the goblin snarls, "Outta my way, beefcake. I've got a message to deliver!"
    Astonished by the goblins impudence, Kord briefly considers destroying the diminutive creature, but instead a deep, thunderous laugh rolls up from the depths of his chest erupting in a full-bellied guffaw.
    "Do you know who I am, little green one?" Kord inquires between chortles.
    "The idiot who's going to make me late, ruining my reputation?" the goblin replies, not bothering to make eye contact with the god.
    "Correction, the idiot who has decided you now work for me. Cast aside your mortal task and take up the cause of Kord!"
    The goblin finally stares Kord straight in the eyes, unflinchingly.
    Then, after careful consideration, "how's the pay?"
