Having owned both of these weapons I have to say both are winners. I'm a Smith&Wesson snob and have never held a bad one. But the Canik is an incredible shooter. I also own an H&K VP9 and what can you say but perfection. The Canik and the H&K are so close it isn't funny. I have a kydex holster for the H&K and the Canik also fits it. All great weapons.

I've owned both of these pistols. Canik Tp9sf in beige is a winner for me. Trigger is way better, than the Smith, capacity is the same. Feel in hand for me are about the same.
I put about 1250 rounds through the Smith, and only 250 rounds so far through the Canik and for me the Canik is the better pistol.
I've also owned the PPQ M2 and I'd say the Canik is only slightly better than that pistol as well.

*MY CANIK TP9SA seems to prefer "full power loads" … Winchester 9mm NATO works very well with decent accuracy. I expect other 124 grain or 8,0 gram bullet NATO ammos to work equally as well. My full power 147 grain hollow point handloads... LOADED LONG to fill up the long magazine also work well.... 115 grain target loads and light hollow point did not work well in my pistol... Inaccurate and unreliable {jamming}… FOR BEST RESULTS: I use Full power NATO ammo or full power to lower end of +P pressures with 124 grain (8,0 gram) or heavier bullets...*

I just bought the Canik TP9SF today. I put about 60 rounds through it. It is very accurate. I had no feed issues shooting Winchester 115 grain FMJ.
I shot 5 rounds at 3/5/7/10/15 yards. If someone was to break into my home I would have no problem hitting a man sized target with every shot.
You just can't beat the price of this gun. So far I'm loving it.

*CANIK TP9 SA works best with 9mm NATO ammo with 124 grain or 8,0 gram bullets .... IN MY EXPERIENCE: Shorter overall length ammo , lighter bullets or less powerful ammo may not cycle as they should {tend to JAM} and accuracy does suffer with NON NATO ammo.... 9mm NATO is definitely a full power load and Winchester 9mm NATO seems to border on " +P " pressures and performance. SO, it takes a "long bullet" to fill up that long 'from front to rear' magazine.... Canik shoots 124 to 147 grain loads very accurately. Those who prefer full power loads with longer and heavier bullets will likely enjoy the Canik...as I do... However, IF you prefer 115 grain or lighter target loads or light 115 grain and lighter hollow points..... you might not enjoy Canik. Worthy of note: Glock 17/19 and Beretta M9 / 92 seem to run on almost any brass cased ammo thrown into them...*

With an Apex trigger job I prefer shooting the S&W but now we are well over $200.00 more in cost for the S&W. Both have life time warranties which is great. I'd be more like to carry the S&W and use the Canik at the range. Just my thoughts and opinion. Thanks for a nice comparison, Ray

Thank you for this review, man! I am on a fence as of TP9SA vs TP9SF, or even upcoming sporty TP9SFx. Have you tried any of those to compare with your TP9SF? People value the TP9SA trigger highly and saying that its trigger is better than TP9SF. Can you confirm this? Now: Century Arms lists TP9SFx' trigger as: "Improved single action trigger with 3.5 - 4 lb. pull". Have you, by any chance tried the TP9SFx and if yes, what are your thoughts about this gun in general and in particular its trigger? Thumbs up!

I have both these guns ...I love them both !!!
But for me canik wins due too a couple things ...
    1. The trigger for me is better than smith ...the hinged trigger on the smith can cause you a issue if your finger rides up to high it will not release the safety and will not fire ...I have to make sure my finger is riding the trigger low to engage the trigger...
    2. Magazine capacity...canik!!!
    3. Price !!! Price !!!! Price !!!
    4. Back to the trigger and the almost instant reset...
I dont care it's made in Turkey alot of great guns come from other countries...
Oh yeah I forgot accuracyright out of the box without training with it I was dead on head shots 30 yards away....I like my canik better than glock....yes I said it !!!!.

I picked up my TP9SF several months ago and have put a few thousand rds thru it with no problems. Out of the box I liked it a lot, but did some polishing on the feed ramp and some of the of the trigger components anyway. Which improved the trigger even more. (the guts are very similar to the PPQ) Even before the polishing, the trigger worked better than the "supposedly excellent" PPQ or the typically gritty feeling stock M&Ps (I have 7, all with Apex and all reworked in some way or the other). Within the a lot of the M&Ps (but not all) many of the components have sharp edges, burrs, or possibly made to wider tolerances to cut costs. The variances in product procedures, make for variances in the product. "IF" S&W was to produce their designs to a higher level of precision, they would have a better finished product right out of the box (which also could use some attention!). In the mean time, out the of the box with no modifications, my TP9SF wins out.

Nothing beats the ergos of the m&p but the trigger on canik tp9 (SA or SF) is just too good for around 300 bucks. I have an SA and it makes an excellent stash gun. I also have a shield and S&w has proven reliability. I thought I would be set with these two handguns but then I bought a PPQ and it's really the best of both. ergos on par with the m&p and a trigger that can match the tp9.

Both r great t for price and trigger i got to give it to canik. Sights r also better on the canik. Rear sight tighter therefore tighter groups. Grips r more comfortable on the m&p. If i couls sell all my pistols and replace them with all caniks i probably would. Except for maybe my shield. Love canik triggers

    I own both the Canik TP9sf and the S&W M&P 9mm 2.0
I Like them both but my favorite is the Canik. Just feels better in my hand. And Canik kicks EVERYONE'S ass in the trigger department. If you can get an unbiased opinion from anyone, Canik is the best "out of the box" "bang for your buck" purchase on the market right now. IMO, the only people that don't agree are your brand fanboys...
I also own the TP9 Elite Combat Executive. S&W has nothing on that one!👍

I'm not a fan of striker fired pistols but sold my used S&W 5906 to purchase the original Canik 55 TP9 and absolutely love it. For years I'd only own a hammer fired pistol but these guns have really forced me to open my eyes to striker fired guns.

I prefer smith & Wesson personally, but the canik is a damn good gun too. If someone even wanted to make the argument it was better too I wouldn’t get all up in arms about it, fair enough.
I think they’re on the same exact level though and my preferences leans me in Favor of the smith.

I bought a S&W 9MM IN 2009 no malfunctions works great and Smith stands behind their pistols mine had the blued striker that was breaking so I called them and sent me the new stainless striker free and I dropped a magazine and bent it and they sent a new one free but I bought a CANIK TP9SF it feels better in my hand and the trigger is superb the technology of these new striker fired pistols are improving all the time .

Nice comparison! Both seem quite nice, but I would have to go with the S&W, I prefer the way it looks and it's made in the good ole US of A. Unfortunately, living in Commiefornia, the M&P9 is not available in the state so it's Glock for me for now.

Every Canik I see in the video has the holster release lever on the RIGHT side. Mine is on the LEFT, which is stupid as it is blocked when you attach the paddle to it. I called Century as I figured it was a defect in casting, but they said it is not a release lever and so is not used. OK, fine, then why put it on the holster AT ALL?
My sights on the TP9SF are different and do not feature the center line or dots on the rear sight. I like yours :-). Yours was from 2016, mine was purchased a few months ago in April 2018.
The Canik is larger than the S&W MP9. The Canik trigger has a very short reset. You can fire very rapidly with the Canik. It has a nice trigger with a softer pull than the S&W. Its great for target shooting. The stippling on the Canik is very aggressive. I find it fine while shooting, but with take down and cleaning, it gets rough. The slides on the S&W MP9 are nice. The Canik has a slighter longer sight picture.
Both are good firearms. I have shot both. I am able to fire the Canik more accurately.

Does the canick have embedded slide rails or is it part of a replaceable chassis like the S&W? This is not anti - Glock but as a LE instructor I have seen 2 Glock guide rails break on the 40 cal 23s. Glock did make good and it wasn't a wide spread issue. As the S&W has the rails in the sear housing and the locking block it would be a plus. Also, the Apex rework puts the M&P trigger in the same league as the PPQ. the M&P has somewhat less muzzle rise that the Canik (going by the Walther P99) or the PPQ because of a lower bore line. The PPQ in 40 is flippy as opposed to the Smith in 40 (personal experience, I have both). But who wants to pay an extra $100 for the Smith then have to dump another $100 into a trigger job. Depends. Having the Smith with and without Apex upgrades, the PPQ, a Canik sitting on hold and a Steyr, I'll take the Smith as a duty gun. And this guy's trigger may be 8lbs but the standard M&P trigger comes in at 6.5lbs and has a reasonable reset. Some prefer a little heavier trigger in a duty/carry gun as stress can be a bitch in a confrontation as been known to officers carrying Glocks. Short and light isn't always better nor is too short of a reset in a 40 or 10mm. (Inadvertent double taps have been known to take place) Short and light, on the range yes ... on the street ..eh?
Comes down to: 1. What you can afford or want to pay. 2. How the gun fits your hand. 3. The trigger. 4. What you shoot better. 5. Most importantly, it comes down to what you like. They all have good points and I wouldn't hesitate buying any of them for fun.

I haven't yet bought my first pistol but did shoot 50 rounds with the Canik and then 50 rounds with a Glock 19 (a bit off topic for this video, but not entirely). What I noticed as a new shooter: trigger was clearly better on Canik (I later saw everyone else saying Canik's trigger is excellent). Feel in the hand was better for Canik. One time I fired the Canik before I intended. My mistake rather than firearm design? Probably. And as everyone else says, the price-benefit can't be beat.
The down sides of parts availability and not US made are surely worth factoring into the decision.

Damn I might trade my CZ75 SP-01 Shadow for one of these. The CZ is very heavy and the slide is low profile so getting a grip on it to rack it is a task. Not something i want in a defensive situation

  • @sammaggard
    @sammaggard 7 ปีที่แล้ว

That's not a slide release, it's a slide stop. When chambering a round you should always pull the slide back fully to the rear (because it is not fully to the rear when the stop catches it.) and let go. Otherwise you could cause a malfunction, rare but possible.
