@@ladslounge2698 their track record. They've canned Halo 4 and 5, albeit poorly. They move like a headless chicken when it comes to story telling. Throw it out and hope something sticks and when it doesn't stick course deviate. I disliked Halo 4 and 5 even worse but what i dislike more is when the course correction is done so badly. Halo Infinite didn't feel like it's own story to me. It was just an extended prologue telling everyone we areoving away from everything we established in Halo 4 and 5

It'd be interesting if the Cylex's contained fully evolved ancient humans ............... and they got released. The potential story options there are numerous. The assumption the fully evolved ancients would be "Friendly" and not look at their ancestors like we do monkeys immediately leaps to mind.

I’ve been wanting 343 to expand on the Ancient Humans (the ones that fought the Forerunners) for so long and seeing these Cylixes gives me hope that they will. Learning about the legacy of the Forerunners over the early Halo games was and still is really cool but now I REALLY wanna know more about how Ancient Humanity used to play a role. Like the weapons they used, their ships, their combat skins, everything. Imagine how they’d react to seeing Spartan IIs for the first time since AH and Spartans are both pretty muscular and combat proficient. Please make it happen 😩

    • @Rylus571
      @Rylus571 2 ปีที่แล้ว +19

    • @Ezekiel_Allium
      @Ezekiel_Allium 2 ปีที่แล้ว +28

I actually thought that was where this was going, the Endless were gonna be ancient humans, and that's a major part of why the forerunners reacted the way they did (combined with the obvious threat of being a flood vector)
I mean, Zeta Halo is THE human associated Halo, itd be crazy for them not to include that in the plot, and its be even more insane if it was never mentioned a single time, right?

"Now I will talk and you will listen."
    - The Harbinger
The Harbinger's mouth looks a lot like the original Halo 2 Gravemind's.
My best bet is that the Endless are Precursors, Non-Flood variation, the way they are described as cyclical and repeating, like the Precursors, who would break themselves down and restart their own evolution, just to experience evolving from primitive to advanced again, and experience what all other life-forms lived though, the Monitors giving them that designation would make sense, seeing as how even the Forerunners are keeping her in the dark about things.

Whatever the Endless are it seems that 'time' is a significant factor that defines them. Maybe they are not just extra-terrestrial - but extra-dimensional. We know that the Forerunners were very powerful, but they had their limits. If time is the one force they could not master then it stands to reason that such knowledge would be of great importance to them. This may also be why Cortana and Atriox were so interested in this installation. They wanted the same as the Forerunners - the power to control time and the means to alter the past or the future. @@joshmorgan360 It would sadly likely be seen as a waste of time for a subject of game or DLC, hard to create an exciting shooter narrative for it, but you could probs have a mini-book written about it just as a little fan indulgence and cool little addition to the lore of the series.
The problem with sci-fi is that, when you are dealing with more than one species or group, its all to easy to sum them up into 'they have these traits and views, with maybe one or two unique individuals'. It's natural, you don't have millions of words to dedicated to the nuances of every society you come up with... but it does leave things looking a little lopsided, stale and frankly naive.
Many in the Halo Community (Pretty much the Humanity F**K Yeah! sections) will say 'who cares about the Forerunners, they deserved their fate'... But its like, the Forerunners controlled an empire inhabiting tens of millions of worlds, they numbered in the god knows how many trillions, hell, likely easily quadrillions. Are we supposed to believe every one of those was some sort of pantomime evil that deserved to be wiped out? Because... their ancestors may have tried to usurp the Mantle from humanity (because the Primordial would never lie to the Didact to feed his insanity?). Because they retaliated when they were being invaded by Humanity? Because parts of their leadership were corrupt and on a ten million year long power trip? Or any other sin committed at some point in their history by some members of their galaxy spanning race?
Well then, we should probs all be Pro-Coveneant and support their genocide, because the UNSC was perfectly happy to nuke an inhabited human world into oblivion for the slightest signs of having a problem being under the control of what is essentially a dictatorial Imperialistic Earth government... or any of the other atrocities committed against the Insurrectionsts pre-Covenant invasion.
I don't care if its civilians from some backwater, part of the Warrior-Rate, scientists or whatever else, it would just be interesting to see a race as interesting and deep as the Forerunners explored in modern Halo as more than 'Oh, they were part of the Forerunner leadership, and are either evil, or are utterly besotted with Humanity and think they are just the best ever'

@@AlbertusSalvatierra Yeah, he had telekinesis abilities, among others, but I think that was powered more by psionics or technology he had as a forerunner. The Harbinger also has the capability to do some kind of throw as well, when she throws him out in that first encounter, her design is like she's some kinda "sorceress" archetype. Not saying she is on Didact's level, but they do have similar metaphysical skills. Another thing to note is she directly has a similar ability as the Gravemind and it's effects are similar to the Primordial's on ancient humans. I'm thinking less teleport, and more what we don't see. I also don't think it's as simple as a straightforward teleporting, but some form of time manipulation that makes it look like she is.
She's definitely not a match for an enhanced Spartan-II in direct combat, but what i'm trying to say is, her species has some advantages that scared the forerunners during the height of the original flood invasion.

Idk if Ancient Humans would understand English but I’d imagine he’d feel threatened by a few humans that looked very different than him and he’d probably end up killing them and everything he came across. Maybe when he sees Master Chief he might think he’s of the same people cause of the similarities of Spartan IIs and Ancient Humans. I’ve put a lot of thought into this because I want 343 to somehow make AH relevant to the story. Hidden the commment for those that didn't complete the game:
I always appreciate it wen you explain the science of Halo lore along with the actual lore itself. The Cylix's appearance in the game is very interesting and has a lot of potential. I just wish the Harbinger got to appear more and instead she gave a little more hints to who her people might be about, even though she is filled with rage at the genocidal attack on her people, as a betrayal by the Forerunners, which we know they are fully capable of and did. I noticed a few things with regards to her design. Her helmet has a symbol that is very familiar to us. This means the endless were a species of power, and one thing to note is, her attacks seem Psionic in nature. Telekinetic in nature, much like the Didact's, but also different. Her design is also quite regal, suggesting she is a leader. Also she is capable of causing madness in humans, ordinary humans, and speaks in a similar rhymical tone as the Gravemind. I'm not convinced she and the Endless are what we've called Precursors yet, but she has some abilities in common with both higher species.
The forerunners are also capable of technology that can influence time, through time dilation of certain areas, like in Halo: Retribution, but maybe the Endless take in to a whole new technological level not understandable by UNSC level humans.
I also wonder if the ancient humans would be friendly or not to their evolutionary successors, but they are a military society that makes our authoritarian states look small. I could see remnants being something equally bad for the UNSC. To them, we are primitives with primitive weapons. Kinda like Javik calls the Mass Effect races.
Either way. i'm looking forward to the next era of Halo, but Microsoft and 343, please don't limit it to Zeta Halo and one game.

Another thing to consider: are the cylixes occupants updated genetically? The worlds they're from would change over time and so the species indexed would need to be artificially evolved accordingly or else they would stand a very poor chance of survival when re-introduced. For the original re-seeding, this wouldn't be an issue as it happened so shortly after the Halo Array was fired, but these ones in Infinite were obviously not used in the re-seeding and are most likely an emergency archive. Also, more importantly, the Master Chief is outright stated to be the culmination of the Librarian's plan for humanity, which means that he is what she intends to inherit the Mantle. Which in turn means I must wonder if the humans indexed on Zeta Halo have been genetically altered to be what are essentially "natural" Spartan IIs/IIIs so that if they were ever released, they would already be ready to get to work so to speak instead of being a genetic spanner in the works.

They didn’t even have to do that.
They could have just gone to the Ark and waited out the firing there.
If you look at all the Halo story the Forerunners saw the firing of the Halo as a HUGE affront to the mantle and a massive failure. In fact; they failed so badly they pretty much collectively decided their species deserved to go extinct and that the mantle should be given to their successors, humanity.
Some Forerunner survived the Halo firing because they were on the Ark. they held the trial of Mendicate Bias and did some
Cleaning up in the Milky Way post Halo firing but then I think they exiled themselves from the Milky Way as punishment. I remember reading/ hearing this somewhere I just don’t remember the source.
Pretty much, the Forerunners were so ashamed of their failure to uphold the mantle they self inflected their punishment which would be extinction and exile.
Also, only the highest levels of the Forerunner Ecumene knew about the Halos and their plan to fire them. The “average” Forerunner citizen probably didn’t know about the plan to sacrifice the entire Galaxy to stop the flood and probably didn’t have a say in this Species wide suicide.

I always thought about the idea of ancient humans surviving the war against the forerunners. Then making a return to the galaxy in some way, like the librarian knowing of a secret ancient human world. Then helping them create a shield world and hiding the fact from the Didact (her way to attune for what happened after the war and devolving humans). But to see the Cylix potentially holding human-forerunner war era ancient humans, would be a nice twist to the story.

So we can all agree this is all retconny and hamfisted. Though I admit 343 is running into the Stargate SG1 problem of the Ancients, with the Halo Array pulse being galaxy wide and only taking place a 100,000 years ago, which is nothing. One of main producers of SG1 felt they screwed up royally with the Ancients by giving hard dates and explaining them completely. He felt if the the numbers were soft (when they existed, when Gate system was created etc) and we never knew much about them. Only that they built the Stargates and left behind dangerous tech after what ever happen to them. That having this kind of setup would have allowed the writers on SG1 a ton more plot and story ideas. Same goes for Halo, if the exact date the Halo Array was fired is unknown, only 100,000's if not millions of years ago. We didn't know if both the Forerunner/Flood war or the pulse was galaxy wide or just limited to the Orion arm of the galaxy. That we didn't know how far Forerunner territory extended in Milky Way before the firing of the Array. That Forerunner stuff is not indestructible, very strong and very advanced. But time and natural cycles of the galaxy like stellar birth and death, have taken a great toll on it. I know it's annoying not having hard numbers and set explanations. But it's possible to give the same understanding of what happen to lead to Halo Array and its firing. While still leaving a lot of stuff vague and hell it would let the fans speculate endless with their own versions of Halo history.

I wouldn't try to get to dive too dep into the lore at this point. It is clear that the writers pull everything out of their butt along the way, without getting into it. A shallow sea, so to speak. And if they really bring in time travel at this point of the story it shows that they not only jumped the shark, but the whale. Time travel is pretty much a "Get out of jail" card, when writers got themself stuck in a corner, and don't know how to get out of it because nobody thought this trough.

So excited for exciting new lore theories. I hope this more or less ties in with the flood and isn’t just a random new faction 😅

Wasn’t the flood much stronger when the forerunners were fighting them? If that spore got out it could make all hell break loose.

One thing that I was pondering is that the Halo array was invented to wipe out anything with a nervous system. This is due to the fact that the flood infect anything with a nervous system. Perhaps the Endless are considered more dangerous than the Flood because they do not have nervous systems, at least not any sort of nervous system anyone is aware of. To me, the Halos not killing the Endless implies that they do not have nervous systems, and if they do not have nervous systems, then there is no way for the Flood to infect them. Hence, the Endless are far more dangerous than the Flood.

If the endless are immune to the flood, wouldn't that make them the ultimate soldiers to combat the flood? Infection is the floods greatest weapon.

@@n7revan829 true, but it seems their motives are due to a deep hatred of the forerunners, which could make them an enemy to everyone, not just the flood

I'm constantly reminded of All Tomorrows and the Asteromorphs by the Harbinger and the Endless.
I think 343 may be making a reference to them as a potential source of theory crafting and implying lore.

I know I'm late, and I'm just now to the discussion about the Cylix in the video, but wasn't the... thingies that some of the Spartan IIIs were locked into at the end of Ghosts of Onyx like Cylix? Just curious. I haven't played Infinite, and likely won't ever get to, but I still want to Lore.

10 proto-graveminds... Holy shit, imagine all those coming together. How many graveminds woukd that make? Or would it just skip to a key mind?

could you make a video going over the physical and mental decrease in johns operational capacity if any when he was without an AI? Or the benefits John had from being able to integrate with an Ai, more specifically Cortana after they’re years of partnership if that had any affect

In terms of cylixes being used primarily for 'indexing species' and secondarily as a form of imprisonment, I think it's rather the other way around. It is entirely possible that the Forerunners imprisoned those they considered threats to society or threats to their rule in cylixes, well before the Flood entered the picture.
It gets around the problems inherent in the methods our societies use: killing a leader can make a martyr out of them, and can have moral implications; imprisoning them traditionally still allows them periodic/limited outside communication; and exiling them means they can return later, often as an even bigger threat.
Imprisoning them in a cylix, however, removes all of those flaws. They 'could' be let out at any time, so they're not a martyr and the society is not morally repugnant for terminating their existence. Time doesn't appear to pass for them, so they pose no risk of communicating with the outside world. They're not roaming around free outside of society, so they can't 'return' without first being let out of containment.
I believe the cylix's original purpose was to hold mass murderers, political prisoners, and other societally 'detrimental' individuals, and it was repurposed for the 'indexing' and 're-seeding' project. It would be the equivalent of mass-producing portable solitary confinement cells and using them to protect a civilian populace from a hurricane or tornado: harsh, but effective.
There may be some whitewashing of the historical narrative within Forerunner records about when cylixes were first used, and for what, to try and alleviate that negative image. Also, the Forerunners have a lot of paternalistic savior complex stuff going on, so that makes the idea of re-writing the history of cylixes as an integral part of Noah's Arc rather than floating prisons even more appealing to them.
    Thoughts?

The opening cutscene of Infinite looks like it was a last second decision in the final days of the development stage before the full release.
The reason why I think that it was added is because it's not in (full-screen instead it has the bars).
There's also a issue that I have found with the game, I don't think that anyone can start an 100% fresh game if they have missed the collectibles like (cores, customizations, skulls, and audio logs).
After I completed the game with most of the collectibles unlocked (except for only having 1 skull), when I got to the section of the game which the only objective was called (finish the fight) I couldn't get any of the audio logs that I missed in the Spartan category.

I don’t understand why the forerunners would keep any flood alive, knowing the threat that they pose. I mean they wiped the Galaxy clean of sentient life to get rid of them, so why take the chance?
