I got out of my comfort zone and I tried the vanilla bean with Organic vegetable glycerin that's probably been about a month and a half or so love you sister thank you for your videos
I really appreciate this video. I am very interested in making tinctures without any alcohol. I have made some with glycerin. I’m glad to know about the honey and vinegar options. Thank you 😊
Thank you Heidi! You are the queen of great information and how-to! 🤗 Just to reiterate: use glycerine that's labeled food grade or vegetable glycerine. There is a glycerine that's made with petroleum.😝 Blessings always! 💜
I've been wanting a video like this for a few years now! I quit drinking alcohol and don't want to use it even in extracts and wasn't sure what else to use.
I'm going to make some of this now cause i have issues with my lungs. I will let you know how it works for me. I drink fresh mulling tea and i love the taste of it by itself. Thank you again as always you bless us all here.
Thank you.....very helpful! I have a friend who's just getting into extracts, but she's shy about going into a store and purchasing alcohol. I'll send this to her!
@@venidamcdaniel1913 😆 I remember being SO embarrassed going into the liquor section of my local grocery store, and asking for the 180-proof Everclear! Thank you Heidi I made vinegars according to your fab recipe in '22 and had a ball, all with homemade wine from Mayflower wine, may give this a go using maple syrup as I am Vegan luv n light x
Now this time it was very interesting timing. I just picked up some Spiced Rum yesterday for vanilla extract! BUT....I also have some glycerin that I've been meaning to use to make some flavoring extracts - so thanks for the reminder! BTW - do you use the Spiced Rum for anything else? Just looking for ideas. Another great video and I even took notes! God bless!!
Great information! I’m going to try maple syrup with herbs for my great granddaughters. I feel better about using that for them and feel that they may actually take it. Many Blessings!
Hola te escribo desde España 🇪🇦, tengo una duda el hongo reishi puedo hacer tintura con alcohol? Tienes algun vídeo sobre esto??? Gracias otra vez y un saludo desde España
Yes, usually vodka is used for extracting Reishi. I do not have a video specifically on reishi but I do have own talking about turkey tail and double extractions: th-cam.com/video/lGun0zxkFPA/w-d-xo.html
Question. If mullein tea needs to be filtered twice to remove the irritating hairs, how are the extracts (with thicker bases) filtered for the same reason?
That is one reason why glycerin or honey needs to be mixed with water or other less viscous liquid. The solvent will become very watery and strain just fine
That’s a great backup if alcohol is too expensive or not available. I wonder how mushroom powders would do & would you recommend honey or glycerin method. ? 👍😊
It is actually a by product of soap making but there is some special process used to separate it from the soap and I do not know if that can be done at home
Do you mean a black seed infused oil or a pressed oil directly from the seeds? I have never made either but for an infused oil I would think you would need to at least crush the seeds
Sounds like you are considering an oil infusion which is usually for topical use, a bit different than an extract. While yes you can, I tend to stay away from oils that are more likely to go rancid like that one for my infused oils. My personal favorite in that case is avocado oil
Glycerine is just one step away from alcohol and I disagree about blood sugar effects.my experience with cough medicines contradicts your information. Never heard of Oxymel. How do you strain out those needle- like hairs on Mullen? Thanks for the demos
@@Shavenerd53119 Try an Epsom salt soak. Add some dried or fresh comfrey leaves to the water if you have them or a few drops of peppermint essential oil. After the soak and once dried, consider using shea butter to soften and moisturize
@@RainCountryHomestead ok thanks. I like to really take care of my feet plus I want them to look good for spring/summer. I know that’s weird for a guy to say lol
I use whichever one is in my kitchen and it can be a mix of any kind. It is likely a blend of apple, mango, and banana peel, but I do not remember because I simply top off my bottle periodically with whatever vinegar is ready that is not one I reserve for my hair or cleaning
Obviously its anyones choices, but i hate glycerine as Tincture base. I have had made the mistake and bought Vanilla that way. Yuck! LOL I find it does change the taste of vanilla.
I noticed you are using a metal spoon and fork with your honey. That destroys the medicinal properties in the honey and you are to use wooden or plastic utensils only. I have seen this on so many videos using honey for meds.
No it does not if you are using stainless steel. The problem with this rumor is that people simply say "metal" without specifying what kind. The same misinformation is spread about using metal with ferments and bentonite clay but again, it is the type of metal that matters. Silver, copper, and aluminum should be avoided but stainless steel is non reactive and safe

If you mean using it straight without vinegar, I did an experiment with it for a pain extract and it did not work well.
@@RainCountryHomestead no, I meant vinegar and maple syrup for mullein. Basically a cough syrup for the little ones. 😊 thank you!

Good to see you
I didn't know that glycerin could take it internally, and it was for cosmetic purposes. Something to learn since I don't use alcohol.
As long as it is food grade and non GMO

I have wondered that too as many say certain constituents can only be extracted with alcohol but I personally do not fully believe that.
Thank you so much for this video. I can't tolerate the taste of any alcohol, even vodka, that isn't supposed to have a taste.
What brand of vegetable glycerin do you use?

Only use Cold Pressed oils 👍
Do you strain it as you use it or strain it all at once after 2 months? Thank you so much.
It depends on the extract. This one I will strain all of it well once I am ready to use it

You have made cough syrup with glycerin or are you speaking of store bought, in which glycerin is not used?
