I lived here for 6 months at the beginning of the year. I spent about $1100 USD, a month, I am here now on a two week run around. I do not drink much at all. And use Bolt to get around. I lived up around Cozy Beach in Phratumuk. Did not spend any on dating or women,
Hi Daz, I've been here since January on a Non O retirement visa. I did a lot of research on budgets before coming here to live and your videos were very informative. My monthly budget is $1600 usd and so far I am living on $1200 - $1300 including the visa agent fees.
Do you go out to drink and if so, how often? Just wanting to see if that is a bigger part of a monthly budget.
@stand.6008 Not really much of a drinker. I buy a couple at 7 11 once in a while and enjoy a sunset.
Cooking for myself is vital just for my health, same with not drinking. I reformed years ago, no matter where I retire I know I can't eat all that amazing food everyday. I know how to cook, and I see everything I could want in the markets to make all my favorite dishes.
Hello Daz. I've been staying in Pattaya for one week. The info from your videos has been very helpful. Thanks! I'm beginning to get my feet under me and get more comfortable. I'm checking out of my AirBnB condo today. My second week, I'll be staying in Jomtien. After that, who knows? I may come back to Central Pattaya. I told my sister "Central Pattaya is like a crazy girlfriend. I feel like taking a break from her right now. But I'll probably miss her and want to come back soon."
Thanks for sharing.
One of the best breakdowns I have seen & even included laundry costs.
I understand how many variables there are depending on the individual & I am no different but what you provided is a good base to build on.
Cheers
To respect to Daz's informational video, I'll add a couple personal experience information:
First, I applied for my OA retirement visa from my own country, Canada and it wasn't that hard. I fallowed up the list of the requirements which they asked for with the cost of $280 Canadian dollar. One of the requirements is a bank statement with balance of (about) $32000 Canadian dollar with no timeline history.
Second, I know some Thai insurance companies which would give a fake document for $100 to apply for this type of visa in case you would like to self insured yourself and skip the expensive health insurance cost, but I do not recommend this myself. If you ask around, they are some guys will give you the information. The immigration agents also know these companies.
At the end, Thailand is a country you can live on
any budgets that you come with. Good luck.
Hello. I really appreciated this vlog with your pausing to show the costs at each point of expenses.
Agreed
Thanks for the video and info. Last year, I lived in the Jomtien area for 6 months and my monthly budget was $3K and that's with companionship with a regular Thai lady for 3x a week without buying any LDs and barfines. I did not eat any western food and been eating Thai food in the market. In my early 50's now, I was planning to retire but I changed my mind in the very last second due to the fact that place is way too expensive and westernized so I decided to come back and work in CA.
Daz , very interesting buddy , so many variables for different people, it all depends on what standard of living you want and of course you own individual budget , it’s a good insight into living in pattaya rather than coming for a month and spending a large amount then disappearing back to your home country, keep up your good work daz
A non-drinker can live pretty well here compared to Australia, UK, Canada, US, especially those whose pension is small by Western standards. A non biker even better (and safer)

Just adding to the accolades, a good update of your previous COL vids/charts which together with my personal experience over 15 years of trips helped make my decision to move to Thailand/Pattaya hopefully before the year end. Many thanks(again).
Thanks f/ showing Threpisatt again. The sunglass lady from Mike's Mall told me she moved there. I just rented on Wongamat Beach in a property w/ fitness & pool f/ $216 a month, high season. But that's rare, and the person who found it f/ me's lived here 20 yrs. It was really $249 USD but the owner said he'd take 8,000 THB. Great helpful vids
Costs are very accurate. Owning your own condo really reduces the monthly cost and self insurance.
I have only used tourist visas and have bought a condo... Opened a bank account and bought a motorcycle. All through using forms from the imagration office. I bulk send money to my Thai bank account which saves alot of money.
Tourist visas add to the monthly cost... About 100$ a month.
Do you have to plan carefully so that you don't get refused entry? Or are repeated tourist visas easy to get?
@@tw25rwYou get 30 day visa on arrival, and you can extend for a further 30 days for 1900 Baht. After 60 days you need to leave Thailand. Officially you can only stay in Thailand for 180 days maximum in a 12 month period on a tourist visa.
Also officially, you are allowed 6 entries a year. 2 by land and 4 by air. These rules are often not enforced, but on occasion they can be depending on the Immigration Officer and the port of entry.
Visa runs become expensive so there is no financial benefit to not applying for a 12 month education or retirement visa.
@@tw25rw... I get a 90 day before arrival visa. Then go to Cambodia and get another 90 day visa. I have done this twice in a row for a total of a 9 month stay and had no problems. For staying permanently in Thailand Dazes method is the best. I have a sailboat in Mexico so I travel back and forth.
Where is your condo? I have planned for many years to move to Thailand and something comes in my way all the time.
I am Swedish, age 57. Today I started to think about doing like you have done.

With interest rates now around 5% or more, why put the money in a Thai bank account?
Great video. Just my experience but I eat out twice a day at Thai restaurants have a british roast dinner on a Sunday and a western meal one other time a week, once a month a decent steak. I buy cereal, bread and fruit for the apartment and I spend 12000bt a month, that’s under £300 and I never cook and eat lots. Unfortunately I also spend 12000 bt a month on booze but I do go out 5 nights a week.
Perfect, £2k budget gives me £1.2k on brasses ❤
Thank you 🎉 for
the up dates stay blessed always ❤
Some great visa knowledge and advice you've given there Daz.Thanks.
I visited Thailand for the first time earlier this year after working out in the Far East for a few weeks. I wanted to visit somewhere after flying so far and it was just kind of a flip of a coin, not that it wasn't somewhere I was really interested in seeing though! so I was an accidental visitor so to speak. Anyway in the UK I like in a studio loft apartment of a VERY old building built in the 1820s.. As I walked around Bangkok it hit me.. I could find somewhere pretty nice here for what I'm paying for electric in the UK! Thank you for the video this kind of confirms what I had considered. As luck would have it I'm doing the same trip with work again at the start of next year and will be again coming across, this time with more conviction!
Another excellent vide Daz, keep them coming your a wealth of knowledge and always give plenty of decent information all the best from a fresh Saturday morning here 🇬🇧
Hi DAZ..! Hope you’re having a great weekend..! 600 Thai Baht a month in Toiletries seems a bit short regarding that kind of items like Deodorant spray and Shaving foam are usually very expensive in Thailand. I bought a pair of Trainers from that Market and I must confess that they’re Great. I been using pretty much every day more than a year and still looking like brand new. I think this is a very Accurate and very informative Video about costing of living in Pattaya. Many thanks 🙏 Mate .
Excellent vid. Very informative. Thanks for posting. All the best.

Cheaper if you own your condo as well....another good video.
if you can afford to buy a condo, then you should not have any problems with a budget
Hello Daz, fantastic video to give a idea the cost of living on Pattaya, is my dream to moving to Thailand, more 4 years to retirement, but for sure I hope to visit Thailand in 2024.
All the best my friend.
Great info. Nice to see the 2nd hand market too.
1:06 wow. So affordable. I am thinking either Jomtien or Hua Hin and with a budget of $2,000 USD a month for at least 20 years. God willing.
Easy. And even with inflation you will still be fine
hi daz.i followed your calculation and for siemreap cambodia i am at 680$
Thanks for the great information
Jomitien is a great place to live the best of both world about 15 mins on the bus to town 10 thb i pay 8000 thb rent about 500 thb elec water. If you do not go mad with ladies and drink you can live on about 500 pound a month well.
Very informative
Great video. I would agree roughly with your numbers. 😁👍Here's some recent figures from the Jomtien "Kikey" Night Market (between Soi Welcome and Pizza Company)...Full Rack BBQ Ribs 160thb, 10 Fried Jumbo Shrimp 100thb, 12 big fried Chicken wings 160thb. Garden Salad Small 30thb/Large 50thb. Also, regarding health insurance, I just got mine. More than average rates starting at about age 55 for approx 45,000thb (without health problems/preexisting conditions). Averaging out the projected increases till age 70, it averaged out to about 66,000thb per year. My total budget, including insurance and golf once a week comes to about 48,000thb (8000 of that being golf). I don't drink or party much. Mostly shop Makro, and the night market.
Excellent! to obtain the OA visa there are various requirements been among them that 800000 thousand bath in a bank from the applicant country of origin, the health insurance, I last check, was mandatory for the OA Retirement Visa.
Which company are you using.
Thai bank account showing deposit amount of a minimum of THB 800,000 OR:
Monthly income of at least THB 65,000 (monthly income affidavit from your embassy in Bangkok). :)

I am confused, because I am old. Are you saying that you do not need the 800,000 baht if you use a visa agent.
Maybe you could do an in depth video on this subject for those of us who are old.
Yes, correct, the agent will " Help "
Can't say more on TH-cam
@@CheekyMonkey007 Thank you. I understand now.
The “help” from the visa agency to “facilitate” the 800,000 baht is completely legal?
@@TheLonelyPostman It`s a grey area, but not illegal, as long as immigration officers approve it. Which they do with their stamp. It`s never a fake stamp, the stamps are 100% legit.

Can't wait for my next upcoming trip @Xmas!
Why not open a city bank account in your home country there in Thailand and world wide locations
I think 45k baht is min. Your costs is if everything stays perfect. I also think if you can't afford or haven't got 800k you shouldn't be there, stay home till you have at least that much back up. Company well you can double that amount.
That's a good pricing guide. thanks Daz.... may need to add a few more beers for myself though ;-)
Daz wonderful video you say what you pay every one can say what best for him and make changes
About the food cost you can eat on the street for 60 baths time 3 it less then a 200 baths a day and if you go to big supermarket and make everything you save a lot of money
Nice, reasonable budget. I agree about cooking at home, restaurants can get old after eating in them every day- and cooking your own meals can save A LOT of money :)
Using an agent isn’t that cheap , but it’s certainly more convenient & hassle free , Being here now 9 months I’m hoping my renewal will run smoothly and it’s obviously cheaper from year two onwards. If only Thai had better savings rates than the measly 0.25-0.30%..
Check with your bank. I stopped in to Bangkok Bank and asked recently. They had short term rates of 3 months at 0.95%, and 7 months at 1.65% (APY) still not great, but better than nothing for your 800k, and they're available/eligible accounts for the 800k.
@@jonh.7661 ok , was Told cannot have
You don't ever take into account that a big percentage of expats own a condo/house. A one off cost of $30k US and no rent to pay ever.
Its not hard to do your own visa, park the 800k in the bank and forget about it, its there for an emergency, and you save 15-20k a year.
Enjoyed that
Good video but I found myself trying to look at all the prices in market. I saw since great deals lol
Cool little swap meet
19:19 Definitely it deserves its own video. Please!!! 😃
hello Daz. I have been coming to Thailand for 19 years, I agree with you. 1000 euros / dollars is 1 base the exchange is good at the moment. Will this last?? I think that in Pattaya we add as much for the evenings. For me, who is French, we live 3 times cheaper than in provincial France.
As a Canadian a 1200us is not cheap if one is on vacation considering having to pay the high cost of airfare to get over there and make it worth while!, how ever if living there it might not be the most expensive, not expensive but not cheap any longer!
I think you did not include expensive air conditioners, if it runs 1/2 day for one one-bedroom condo, what is the cost?
It is only 30% savings compared to expensive California, is it worth moving???
Thanks Daz.
I hope you make a video about language institutes in Pattaya ❤
8 beers a week? Good luck budgeting for that guys......it's Pattaya
Yeah, you Totally MISSED the Point of this video.
It's about LIVING here !!!
Been to Pattaya at least 20 times haven’t drank for 34 years and had a brilliant time every time ! Some of the best Gyms , cafe and restaurants you will ever come across and too do it Sober is so good !
I live in Thailand for part of the year. My costs are MUCH higher than you budgeted simply because I choose to enjoy the same living standards that I have in North America. My food costs are generally lower because I eat a lot of Thai food. Dental costs are also much cheaper than North America. However, my rent is only slightly cheaper, health insurance is bloody expensive but I actually purchased a package (which is excellent). Coffee is expensive. Virtually all imported food and goods (i.e. appliances) are fairly expensive. Add in green fees, sailing costs, imported beer (because I don't like the local crap) and MUCH more female companionship than you budgeted for, Thailand is actually not very cheap at all. In fact, I come here for the lifestyle, not the cost.
"Lifestyle" Basic translation = Hookers
daz clearley stated female company is not included in the cost
i would get the thailand elite visa it's good for 20 years
Very good calculating. I have Condo but i spend at least 50.000 baht per month😁😋
Hi Daz, many thanks for this new and great video. 1000 USD costs of living per month is very very cheap. My standard costs in Switzerland are 3 to 4 times higher😮 per month, as well without company. And! I am the owner of my condo means no rental cost! Taxes and Swiss living costs including obligatory basic health insurance at Geneva lake only.
So in the future I will move to Pattaya😂😅 ...and I will be able to afford nice company😂🎉😇🌞

No my friend, its not cheap.Tailand is Very expensive. Its not Swedish or usa , from the most expensive countries in the world.
Here in Greece , 350€ rent to a 55s.m. apartment. The food is about 250€ and its from the best in the world. Temperatures between 12-37. And the environment of Europe country. Also there are some other European Countries that are equal or cheaper.
@@DimitriosSpada hi Dimitrios, thanks for your comment! Ok these living costs of Greece you mention are low and Greece is a very beautiful european country with great food! Daz, once again, a very useful video, especially the advice about using an agent for an O visa. I have seen little articles saying the new Thai Govt is talking about introducing income tax for ferang expats? Is there any truth to this? or is it rumour or is it fact? Would be really interested what you know.
It's nonsense, they would lose half the expats who would take their money with them to the Philippines
I've wanted to go to thailand for twenty years i might move there if south america goes to poo
You went over the 800,000 baht but totally ignored the monthly income alternative and what would be acceptable paperwork for proof of income.
Because you can't prove income on a bank account you don't yet have !!!
@@CheekyMonkey007 no I am talking about retirement income from United States
Up in Esan where I stay I can live for 1000 usd month easy...and I dont save
..but try not to drink to much.... but I would say that of you have limited saving or income....Dont stay there....sit in another country and not sure if you dont have money enough....will be to hard..I allways have usd 20.000 extra avaible...as " buffer"
You are right, Joe. But the correct papers include 12 months of consecutive monthly income into your account, of 65.000 baht or more. If you have paper for that, you can apply for and obtain a non-O visa for 12 months, based on retirement.
Thank you Sir, again another informative Vlog. If you could choose a house in Pattaya across Sukhumvit Road or in Jomtien, which would you rather choose? Would one location have better value-for-money than the other location?
No comparison, JOMTIEN it has the beach views and the sea
I'm sure You could live in Thailand for the budget you have but it's too basic for me. I think a more realistic for the average bloke wanting to live a bit better lifestyle would be about 1600 USD per month. 😉 plus women.
The advise you give is sensible 👌
Great video Daz!
Pay visa agent every month doing what?
Self insurance: How about that 1,000,000 baht in a fixed deposit instead of an ordinary bank account ??
If the retired can afford an extra bank account where remittances ftom home is deposited of say 500,000 baht to show fiscal liability is no problem especially if supported with evidence of bank statements ftom home.
That way, a fixed deposit, is accruing interest or more interest than an ordinary bank account.
Any comment apart from if the expat can afford such ??

Did you ever do a video on when is the right age to leave Pattaya to return to your home country. Does there come a point when for age/mobility/health that it makes sense to leave. Is there a time limit and exit strategy we should have in mind.
Actually I think this is the single biggest issue. If you do retire here, you will always have the thought that one day you'll have to go home. Preferably before you get too sick to travel. Has happened to a couple of my friends, but they left it too late and couldn't afford the medical fees at the end. Very sad for them and their family. Plus just going home doesn't immediately solve your problems, you have to live there for a period to re-qualify for free medical.
So are condos available for rent or do you need to buy
Both

Hi Daz, I really find your videos very informative and I especially like the Podcasts that Claudio hosts. One nagging question that I have never really heard being address is what if you are at retirement age (50's) and want to come over on a retirement visa but would like to work as well to keep income coming in while you wait for the pension to start from your home country. What is available as jobs for western men coming to Thailand. I heard Claudio does not work as such, but he still must need money coming in?? What does he do to survive?? Could you ask these questions please and possibly assist. Another question I have is how do you buy a bar over there?? Are they advertised in a directory somewhere?? The new owner (I think his name was Greg) of Fire on Soi 6 has only just started but how did he find the bar to buy or run?? Financing a bar?? Can you borrow money like in the west to start?? Many Many questions!! SORRY 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

"Duvet or a dunny"? I think you mean doona not dunny if you are using the Australian word, as dunny means toilet.
Ha Ha yeah Dunna
Doona!
Duvet is the correct word, though doona is also acceptable, but is generally only understood in Australia, so duvet is better in as far as numbers of native speakers who will understand you.
I'm going to use an agent.
I have a query...at 7:22, what do you mean by 'facilitating the 800,000 baht ' ? From what I've understood after reading the rules for retirement visa, the 800,000/- baht needs to be in my account for two months before applying for retirement visa. Also, that deposit amount in a Thai bank should not dip below 400,000/- baht subsequently ie after retirement visa is granted, and for the entire period of the visa. So how can I keep the amount of THB 800,000/- in my home country ? Lastly, health insurance is not required if one applies for retirement visa from within Thailand
You understood correctly, however, about the 800K baht, go speak to Key Visa about facilitating you, they will explain
