When I rode this line in the seventies with my folks, the first part from Willits was a steam engine...somewhere in the middle there was a stopping point for a rest and lunch....nice picnic area with a little store among the forest! then the rest of the trip to Ft Bragg was done by a diesel engine.....then, reverse the process.
Just went on it yesterday and one of the friendly employees explained that the old #45 locomotive is in pieces and being reassembled to ride again in the near future. There are also train rail bikes available which are super popular. On a personal note, I remember riding the Skunk years ago when they still delivered mail to local residents. It was awesome to be on the train as it stopped in the middle of a redwood grove to deliver mail.
Wow this is a cool train ride. I have actually heard about it from Great Scenic Railway Journey's on PBS. This would be something cool for me and my family to do some time in the future. Great video as always so keep up the great work good sir.
Such a shame about the tunnel collapse I went on that train about 5 years ago with my wife on our own and have the best time. Not being able to experience the whole Journey is sad but still a great ride
Awesome video you guys 😎👍 this is the coolest thing i ever saw 😀 for me i love trains since i was kid and i have seen some in the city i live in 🚂🚆🚄🚅🚈 i want to go ride the skunk train 🙂 it looks cool 😎👍.
They hope to reopen the tunnel as soon as they can get the necessary funding, but for now they are building an amphitheater at the turn around point. Most likely to make the trip longer and add different trips in the meantime.
Love this video thank you ,I'm from fort Bragg CA our beautiful coastal town.

I hate to be impatient, but will they ever get Tunnel No. 1 reopened? It's been a long time since it collapsed in 2013.

I love the skunk train but I’ve only been on it and saw it once. I really wanna go again but it’s too far from where I live
Jupiter!??
Good job
Thanks!
Nice, thanks!👍
No problem!
They need to fix the tunnel to make the full trip!
Its gonna be a long time before that hillside is stable. photos.app.goo.gl/jfHUpskxCkULrzTP9
They increased the price to $50/person now plus fees so for a family of 4 it’s $230!!
Hey Josh, how far up have you visited California? I know a lot of places to visit north of Fort Bragg in the Humboldt County area.
Let's chat!
I hope they get the steam locomotive running again. Way more fun.
