This anime is the definition of horror, and wtf is going on, the amount of betrays and mysteries in this anime are insane, one of the most entertaining and interesting animes out there I can say that for sure
The First two openings that you saw were of main story Higurashi and Higurashi Kai
Third op is of Higurashi Rei it contains only 5 episodes and it's optional to watch
Fourth op which was very joyful was of Higurashi Kira which is parody (4 ep), so it's also optional
Now the last two op which had horror-mystery element in it were of Higurashi Gou and Higurashi Sotsu (I thought watching Sotsu's op will give a one big spoiler but I'm glad you didn't noticed it)
Gou-Sotsu are sequel to the main series whose potential could be understood if you have knowledge about other WTC series like Umineko/Ciconia. Gou set up those potentials but Sotsu completely ruined it.
Sotsu is very good in its first half, seeing Satoko's resolution to the madness, and the answers to the dead loops, and how she tortures Rika in them by giving her low blows. What was ruined is the second half where they did not know how carry the development and outcome of the Witch Satoko, and I think this was partly the fault of wanting this to be in relation to umineko, because the worldview arguments and "games" that apply to sotsu are fine in umineko but They don't adhere well to higurashi, added to the fact that the bittersweet ending also doesn't go well with the spirit of the series.
I heard of this anime when I was in elementary school and the way people described it scared the hell out of me. Now that I’m in college, I decided to watch it. To say the least, I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. Trying to figure out the mystery and prepare myself for the horror scenes felt so I dunno. I guess thrilling is the word. I’m glad I waited till I was older to watch this cause if I seen this when I was a kid, I probably would’ve been scarred and paranoid for life. Great series!
Higurashi switches from "awwww cute" to "oh god, stop the massacre" so often that it really makes one of the most unique anime of all time...
many ppl are complaining that some scenes are too much cartoonish but honestly i think it fits the plot and later it makes you ask "why did he/she do it?", trully the best horror/mystery anime
I don't like horror, and yet Higurashi is one of my favorite anime. And it's definitely thanks to the plot. It's an amazing mystery story that keeps you trying to guess what the f&%$ is going on and then blowing your mind with the reveals.
For me it was the characters, which isn't as well explored in the anime which is understandable. Ryukishi has such a way with writing characters and getting you so immersed in their head to make them feel so human, vulnerable and sympathetic. The tragedies feel so much more intimate cos of how much we're in their head. So when we're revealed what's truly happening outside of their paranoid, wary and bias perspective it hits you like a ton of bricks.
Maaan, I love this anime so much it messed with my mind for months, The writer wrote the new unreleased Silent Hill game
Higurashi as a whole is 11/10, an absolutely fantastic series. Great horror, but also way more than just horror. And it's got an amazing cast as well!
“Sounds like 2006 ps2”
Indeed my friend, the novel is in ps2
One of the best horror/mystery animes ever, I've always been curious why this anime is so underrated when it's story is absolutely amazing, I highly recommend you and anyone to watch this series, it's one of the few horrors that are actually kinda scary, this anime is a easy 9.5/10
the animation is dated which is unfortunate bc i agree. also theres some weird loli/pedo shit in it thats pretty jarring
@gnoogie I don't remember much loli or pedo stuff, and the old animation was cool, it made it more scary and creepy, compared to Sotsu and Gou
@@Mashiro_TV yeah dr irie and some shots of rika/satoko are just a little creepy and it grosses me out. and like i said i agree. its a 9 or 10 for me too, but i cant ignore the fact that as time goes on, it becomes less accessible to the average joe that watches anime cuz theyre used to very modern clean and high quality art styles like aot and mha type beats. higurashi 2020 and the way its super stylized is neat, but the story is all fucked up and i wish the art style was more true to the OG.
The problem with the new series is that it was advertised as a remake when it was in fact a reboot that references A LOT of known stuff from the first series, so for newcomers it might not be the best depiction of the story. Also, Sotsu relies on A LOT of elements coming from Umineko When They Cry, which is fine by itself but kind of sad because it spoils twists for Umineko, which hasn't gotten the chance to have a proper anime yet (not even thinking about that poor attempt at an anime that is the only existing "Umineko anime") and is quite long to read so it might ware people off.
And like I said it's more of a reboot so it loses the dimension that made the original mystery so intriguing. It is really something to be viewed as an entierely different story.
Really hoping that we get an actually GOOD anime adaptation of Umineko sooner than later though.@@gnoogie
@@gnoogie This loli stuff isn't that much and only about 2% of the reason, Japanese anime and manga in general have some strange ecchi and sense of humor (like the scene with the brothers in Jujutsu in bed or the covers of Yancha Gal no Anjou-san) . I think the animation weighs more, although as a fan of retro anime I find it fluid, scary and very beautiful. But the main reasons are that it is niche, from a time with many underground anime, and it also has a confusing chronology and a purposefully confusing history. Although he is unpopular compared to major shounens, he is still quite popular for his niche. There are videos of the OSTs with millions of views, more fans than expected who play the long games of the franchise, its anime did much better than Umineko.
I think that some classic animes from that era, like Higurashi, Serial Experiments Lain, The Melancholy of Suzumiya, Welcome to NHK may not be as popular as Boku no Hero, but they are still cult classics, and their quality is more important than their popularity.
Just my opinion but Higurashi When They Cry is the greatest horror anime franchise ever made and arguably one of the scariest series ever made and a lot of people share this sentiment
Higurashi is an incredibly fascinating story that unfortunately suffered from being adapted by an incompetent studio, it's not unwatchable but it makes the story seem extremely more shallow than it really is.
Yeeah it is a shame. The Deen adaptation executes the psychological horror, creepy atmosphere and mind boggling mystery well.. but it fails so hard with the heart of the story which is the psyche and internal struggles of the characters, the heart wrenching tragedy of the friendships falling apart, and the important overarcing themes of trust, reaching out for help, relying on others, communication and empathy for others.
@@Filimaua13 To be fair to Deen, they did as well as could be reasonably expected. They were given 48 episodes (~18 hours) to adapt a ~120 hour visual novel. They did a fine job. I really wish they had known ahead of time that they were getting green-lit for the sequel, because they really needed more than 4 episodes for each of the first 6 arcs. This part of the story is unbelievably condensed. However, in Higurashi Kai -- when Deen had 8-10 episodes for arcs 7 and 8, they did a much better job of grasping the heart of the story.
Unfortunately, it is going to be impossible (then, and especially now) to convince a studio to dedicate 80-100 episodes to adapt a single story. This is one reason the Umineko anime failed so spectacularly. 24 episodes to adapt 60+ hours of highly concentrated content (far more so than even Higurashi) was not going ever work in a million years. I'm not sure the Witch of Miracles herself could have made it happen.
Given all this, I think Deen did as well as we could have hoped with Higurashi, but it does unfortunately have negative side effects such as people missing the true themes of the story.
@@Filimaua13 i wouldn't say it fails with the heart of the story, when i first watched it without any other context i still got the other themes especially when rika and rena started to get more involved.
@@sawmill035 Yes, they did a good job. It's compact and still one of the best in its genre. The main themes are there, just more condensed. Partly this is good, it gives more pace and more information to process in a short time, increasing the feeling of "what the hell is happening". This niche anime is not a shounen to enjoy hundreds of episodes, but its story and depth are certainly denser than most.
I think most adaptations suffer from the "book to film" problem, where dozens or hundreds of hours must be compressed into two, and maintain the quality and theme of the original. This made me like Akira's manga a lot more, although the film is well made, it seems to be very rushed and only 10% of the original work.
I also felt this when I recently started playing Umineko after watching the anime, because in the few scenes at the beginning, the introduction of the characters is much more gradual, detailed and charismatic, giving you time to remember their names and care about them. The anime kills these characters off with dramatic music and screams, before you care and remember their names.
As someone who has read the visual novel, i'll be honest: people wouldn't have the patience to sit through the visual novel unless they know that the payoff is gonna be good, and the only way to do that is to get them to watch the anime. If they turn into fans of the anime series then they are most likely to sit through the arcs in the novel. I am not saying that the visual novel is not engaging, just saying that people would drop early if they feel like this whole series is gonna be pain and suffering with no happy ending.
So the anime is great as a gateway device into getting people to enjoy the visual novel
The anime is adapted from a very long visual novel that's easily one of the best piece of japanese media i've read in my life. While the anime is pretty old, lacks budget and cuts a lot from the novel it's still a strong 9/10 for the story alone
Meduka
"young girls and blood"... yes its about that time of the month 🤣
The singer for much of these originak songs Is Eiko Shimamiya. She has very limited songs on spotify but plenty you can find on youtube. She has a good sound.
This is easily my favorite anime ever honestly loved the brutality and mystery of it.
You read the visual novel? The adaption wasn’t that great because of the fact they had 18 hours worth of episodes to adapt 120 hours of content so you will probably love the original
I watch this anime when I was 12....God it traumatized me for years then I watch it again when I was 17 and finally get what's going on...
I really recommened this show!
I suggest to check out the "Umineko: When they cry" Opening" too. A really nice song.
You can also check out the visual novel openings, they are great too 😄
Ah, the memories. I used to watch this when I was in middle school.
Higurashi Anime: 7-8/10
Higurashi Manga: 9-10/10
Higurashi VN: straight 11/10 literally shaped my entire view on life
This anime is really amazing. It's one of my favorites ! But you must watch the 2 seasons of 2006, even if it's confusing, before watching the 2020 version because that is actually a sequel.
Beginning of the first opening in reverse says "nigeranai". It means "you cannot escape"
Definitely my favorite mystery anime. I was so hooked, so intrigued, the whole way through.
Novels are 10/10. Anime, for anime standards, also 10/10. Just go and watch this show, you are guaranteed to enjoy it.
11/10 best psycological horror anime ever
the visual novels are TOP tier 10/10 but the anime is more like a 7/10 imo. the anime focuses mostly on the horror aspect and misses out on important character development and plot. still absolutely worth the watch!
10:02 "So many characters dude"
Oh my... You should check out Umineko
10/10 best anime I have ever seen and I have seen over 100 anime.
I love telling people to try watching only the 1st 4 episodes, then stop, cause after the 4th episode any1 would want to know what happens next. It would drive them crazy, lol.
Higurashi is one of the best psychological horror anime for me (Although VN and manga are better). If you ever react to this then please keep in mind
Dub is very bad so react to sub
First two season are main story total 50 ep
Don't keep expectations high from Sotsu, bcoz it's disappointing.
It's better to read Gou-Meguri manga after finishing main series (Meguri is still ongoing)
After main story read Umineko VN if you have time. It's PEAK FICTION
Higurashi is a masterpiece along with Umineko(the visual novel though not the anime) would love to see you react to Higurashi
I think the show starts off really strong and is among my favorite anime. It does get a bit weird later tho (I think that was the second season or something?).
Few things:
1. I'm glad this intrigued you! Higurashi is an unbelievable visual novel. One of the very best stories I have ever experienced. However...
2. DO NOT START WITH THE MOST RECENT SERIES. It is a sequel, and frankly, compared to the original it's hot garbage. You will be left confused, frustrated, and trying to figure out why you wasted so much time. It was even worse to watch as an avid fan of the visual novel. It was a direct slap in the face. (Hard to explain without spoilers)
3. Really, all you need to do to experience Higurashi to the fullest is watch the Deen 2006 anime and it's sequel, Higurashi Kai. That is the entirety of the main story, and nothing else is really necessary if you go the anime route.
4. That said, I would highly recommend watching episodes 2-4 of Higurashi Rei. This is the "Dice-Killing arc" which is an epilogue of sorts and completes of one the main characters' arcs beautifully. Episodes 1 and 5 can be skipped (pointless filler).
5. Of course, I'm obligated to be that guy. If you have the time, I would _highly_ recommend you check out the visual novel (which the author calls a "sound novel"). While the '06 anime and it's sequel are good, it is very weak compared to the VN. The anime is a fun ride trying to solve a horror mystery, but on top of this, the VN gives you amazing characters that you grow to love (or love to hate), brilliantly delivered life-lessons without being too heavy-handed or forceful, and far more detail than the anime could ever dream of including, which makes the actual mystery much more solvable (though still extraordinarily difficult).
If you ever react to this, pleeeease react to the original higurashi sub! It’s sooo great
Perhaps you should also react to the endings.
Yes this show is amazing , the first 2 openings are the main story, the 3 and 4 are just spin-offs and not necessarily to watch, the last 2 were supposed to be a remake but they were a surprise continuation of the original series.
It's a fantasy genre that pretends to be a mystery
But it's a lot of fun
That's the reboot, the old one has depth
You're talking about Gou-Sotsu
i watched this series when i was 10 and it fucked me up and what was weird is i couldnt stop watching it
Let's gooooo
Since you like horror anime
You should watch the Openings in of "Shiki" cause it's one of the best horror anime out there.
Love higurashi as well cause it's the first anime that i watch that has a huge horror theme when i was a kid.
will you do a full anime reaction? Season 3 and 4 are btw fillers you could skip them, that´s why their vibe is kinda different aswell
I'm watching this show now. Reached s2. First was for me 8,3/10. Even if its not my genre at all
Definitely watch the older version (2006 and the season right after that (kai)) first.
You really should watch it someday, maybe on the other channel ? Would be nice to see you confront your ideas. The anime is pretty good but the visual novel is way better. You can't just condense 10 hours of content into 1 hour and 20 minutes worth of content without missing point.
You should check the openings for the visual novel too, the consol version. There are pretty good too ! Oh, and the endings, especially for Gou and Sotsu, the last two.
higurashi is my favorite anime you should give it a try ^^
One of the brutal anime all time
I am just here for Happy! Lucky! Dochy!
React to endings also
Great show. Great reaction.
Now react to the endings as well...pls?
s1-2 of the original is an easy 8/10 mainly due to the fact that theres nothing else like it, as someone who watches.. a lot of horror, this is just different and i did not expect (very small hint to a spoiler ahead) that it would explain the events in detail later instead of just leaving it as is.
If you watch all the series, is a 10 or maybe a 9. If you watch first season only its a 5 (some ppl just watches one )
The original series (OP 1-2) is a solid horror mystery anime on its own, but the source material visual novel is waay better as a representation of what its tryna be. OP 3 is a OVA epilogue that is also pretty good.
The upbeat OP 4 is from a fanservice non-canon OVA thats why it seems so out of place. The last two openings are from the 2020-2021 sequel series to the original and altho it upgrades its visuals for its horror, it does the exact opposite of what made the original great. It almost indulges too much in its brutal violence which never was the intention of the original story. Its even more over the top with it to the point of being laughable. On top of that, the answers to the mysteries were underwhelming and the conclusion to character arcs aren't as satisfying as the original. I mean its fine if you end up loving that sequel series, but it just doesn't work for me.
I would rate it 9/10, love it. I think the novels are better but I really liked the anime a lot, I would totally recommend the older anime if you want to get into it. Watch the newer one last.
Good choice. Haven't seen the new series yet tho.
Well They pretty much fucking ruined it with GouSotsu. They butchered Satoko's Character and the Finale was literally a DBZ Style Fight between her Rika....
@@giornogiovanna8367 no they fucked up all of there characters
You should react to their VN op too!
The Visuel novels are better but way longer with more to read.
Visuel Novel 10/10
The Anime 8/10 but with not the best Animation and more focus on the horror mysteri Element.
React to the endings
I also recommended watching this series. The og anime is great and visual novels are better. The newer anime isn't my cup of tea, but I watched it and surprisingly still didn't like it, though i appreciated them bringing it back into the limelight gor awhile
visual novel 10/10
manga idk
anime 9/10 cuz theres missing some details
The anime's not bad, but the manga & visual novels are signifcantly better. The fandom will tell you not to bother with the anime of it's sister series umineko and just stick with the novels and mangas if you choose to check that out as well. BTW, its more accurate to say Higurashi(and umineko) lean more on the mystery & psychological side. The creator blatantly lies to the viewer and expects you to figure out the truth on your own. It's why the fandom is a treasure trove of fantheories and different interpretations of the story
OP4は声優だちが歌っています
Hate to be that "the Visual Novel is better" guy, but the Visual Novel is better xD
Higurashi is my absolute favorite anime, tops AOT for me
I used to love watching higurashi with SpongeBob on TH-cam
did you end up watching higurashi?
9/10
U should watch the series, it’s amazing series, but I disagree the first op has a very horror tone to it and the song itself had a horror feeling to it
Plssss react all openings (3) of Mairimashita iruma kun 💙💙
the first animes are scary and that
Kira is more another gender and cute
gou and sotsu makes me laugh because I don't know the same as the old designs
Good anime
This anime is great but scarred me a bit becaus its a real horror to the core
