I love everything about this, especially the ‘picking a medium’ topic, we don’t have to choose anything. We can be everything and anything all at once.

i watched this on the subway omw home from my 9-5 job that’s been making me feel pretty dead inside lately. it stirred up a lot of emotions and memories of past creative endeavors that i let die because of my fear of failure. i even cried a little on the train ngl lol… but your video reignited my creative fire and motivated me to restart a project i started years ago. so just want to say thank you nae, and keep creating🤍

when you said that it's okay to look at your art and realize that it still misses that special spark and that that doesn't mean you are not worthless as an artist, it really moved me. I struggle with that sometimes about my photography and even my painting, but I now see that it's a journey, and that I just need to keep searching and educating myself and trying, in order to improve

What a wonderful video... What you said that "We become artists because we have good taste and we suffer because we have good taste" took so much burden from me. And about that one medium... I suffered my whole life because of that. I know now that those who can't do many things will try to keep you back and ask you to be limited. I flourish by doing many things. This is how I was made. I must tell you that your video helped me realize what I need to do next. Thank you so much. 🙏🌺

A year ago I regained passion for writing and since then I've been trying to build a vision for my future, university and all, questioning if it's the right path for me, being afraid of wasting my youth... You kinda helped me realize that I'm looking at everything from a very fixed point of view. I think I should stop seeing life in months and years and instead focus on moments and feelings, cause that's what matters. As long as our focus is doing what we love surrounded by people we love, I don't think any of us can really set ourselves up for a bad life.

I never knew being creative meant giving yourself space to fail and being patient. Because I am creative but when I fail, that’s when I don’t want to start doing it anymore. Thanks for sharing. I think as long as we try to express ourselves creatively it’s never ever wrong

Let's begin with that this video is a MASTERPIECE by itself, on top of that it came at the right moment for me. I've been struggling to grasp my place in the art/creative world plus balancing that with my degree which I am on the verge of dropping has been hectic. Now, I'm coming to a realization that what I thought of uni life is nowhere to be true nor is the path of becoming an artist. Life, yourself, and everything can change abruptly without you even noticing and you from yesterday could be an old version of you of today. Anyway, I feel that seeing this video is like a magic pill that will make me wake up to a better tomorrow, all thanks to you Nae. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I went to art school and I’m afraid it’s killed my passion. I enjoy working in my sketchbook but I’m afraid to make a big final piece. I really would love to find the passion again. I just feel like I can’t show what I want to show in my work. But then again when I try to explain with words I can’t, maybe the only way for me to communicate is through making art that makes me and others feel.

"Focus more on the process, than the outcome" is such good advice. I am really struggling with what kind of art I want to make, I just want to be free and create whatever I feel like creating. But I have to pay my rent and I want to be able to have time for friends and health (going to the gym etc.) - There are only so many hours in a day and that really scares me, like I will never get to my goal of being able to live off of all that I do (acting/writing/content creating/singing). I am afraid that like you said... if you do it all, all your energy will be spread across these different things, but if you focus on one medium, then you can become really good at it.
Luckily, my art mediums are pretty close to each other and intertwine, but thinking about it all just makes me so stressed. Anyway, thank you so much for this video! You inspire me!

Hey Nae, I really dig how you're open about sharing your failure story, aka a stepping stone to growing and owning the future! More people should totally talk about this so young artists can take risks without feeling failure's a downer. I mean, I'd have never guessed you went through tough times, 'cause on the surface, you're totally nailing everything you're up to. Bet lots of artists will totally get where you're coming from and find comfort knowing they're not alone in the struggle.

exceptional video! thank you so much for sharing your wisdom and learnings. i can relate to your pain of becoming an "artist", launching a product and selling. at this point i have about 4 failed business ideas behind me, but each of them has been a steep learning curve that helped me clarify my next venture. something that have stuck with me is that sometimes we don't need to burn the "unsuccessful" venture to the ground, we just need to pivot and make shift, often very small. a newfound perspective can put it all in a different light. i hope you won't give up on your dreams ever and may you find the strength to always get back up. that's true art.

I started drawing from a really young age, and people would always say that I was talented and that when I grew up I would become a drawing artist. I like drawing. In my 10s I started enjoying writing, I started writing my feelings down as poems, I fell in love with it. One or two years later, I got into science and, because I did so, I thought that art with science didn't go together, so what I did was neglect art, writing, drawing. Science interest didn't last long, art came back and in my 12s I started lyric writing. I really got into it. When I got into teenage I was into all forms of art, it was confusing. Now, still in teenage, I'm into music making, song writing. I have dreams about it. And seeing videos like this is such an asset... thank you Nae!

I love the comfort that your words bring!
I have been forever wanting to write and publish a novel but feel daunted by the seeming enormity of the task. I do freelance writing for companies (which I love) but I always feel burnt out and unmotivated when it comes to my personal projects. I've been carrying around this outline for a novel for months, but have not been able to write more than a page. I am still so much wanting to see where my idea will go, but it is difficult to start.
Thank you for sharing your experience! It can be hard to share your own struggles, but it is wonderfully comforting to know that our personal lives are not so singular and isolating as we have come to think.

Regarding choosing a medium - I sense a multitude of dreams within me, making it challenging to settle on just one. However, I've made the decision to focus on a single medium until I achieve success with it. This way, I avoid constantly switching between different things while still having the flexibility to explore other artistic pursuits. For my initial choice, I settled on charcoal, stumbled upon it unexpectedly, and am thoroughly enjoying the experience. But I definitely want to do colored work also in the future.

OMG this video was so good ✨
It is pretty honest, that you tell your story of thinking about big plans and money and time investments and then actually selling two prints.
A lot of people, especially online, tell stories like: "Oh I thought no one would look at it, but then it got so big..." People I know, which are rather successful with creative work, told me some stories, where they worked so hard for stuff what in the end failed and they reattempted multiple times and then finally succeeded. It is super important to being open to mistakes, although it can be painful.
You also mentioned some other super interesting points, which I experienced myself like
    - moving from being outcome driven to being more process driven
    - everything creative you make goes to your own filter
    - first not dreaming about to actually realizing ideas
Thanks was pretty cool to hear someone with a similar thought process

idk what I just stumbled into but I was so tired today of being stuck in an algorithm loop and started searching new topics close to my heart that I never watch videos on and this video came up. I could not be happier with how I just spent my last 16 minutes and 47 seconds, i feel so understood that I'm emotional, I have this creative flame inside of me that I've been chasing but there's so much that feels like it gets in the way, until you realize... it's you, you're in your own way. The ways in which this world operates is not friendly to the idea of an artist knowing their potential. Who are you if you follow your flame? The biggest hurdle for an artist I think is making this jump, succumbing to the fire and letting it drive you, taken from the safety of what you know about this life and diving into waters that people deter you from entering.
Your video style is so personal, I admire it. Within 16 minutes I can see this video is made by someone that has their own vision, fuck i love that feeling. glad this video found me 😭

Are you able to support yourself completely? One thing that's stopping me from doing what would make me the most happy is not being able to support myself financially an not wanting to have to rely on my parents.
