- Another old and rusty knife for Restoration Project, I will make a custom handle for this knife. The polishing and sharpening takes a lot of time for this type of blade. I apologize if I have some mistakes during the restoration.

Really nice restoration! ...but deba are for breaking down fish.
Dear Mr. Deba, I have almost the same Japanese knife. It is gorgeous and consider it as the best knife in my collection. Just one year ago the tip had ben damaged. Is it possible to restore it?

I have a problem with the use of the grinding wheel. You always grind TRAILING edge, I have heard, and it makes sense. E.g., turn the knife upside down there. The way it's done in the video, if that edge catches, you could get a knife thrown into your hands or face or chest.
I think that’s more of an emery board polishing wheel than a grinder.
thats coool good job, but I dont find a mirror finish to be impressive. its extremely easy to do. because it doesn't take any finesse.

Such a pity that the handle could not be reused, keeping the characters on the handle would have been good.Never found a knife good enough to restore.Good result.
He could use at least part from old handle with characters. This is now just a peace of metal with handle. At least for me. If it had some history or craftsman signature now it is lost.

I'd shop at thrift stores and 2nd hand stores any day before buying a new knife. You'll find 40 yr old or older knives like Cleveland lux have way better hi carbon steel and overall a knife of good quality then is a knife of great quality today. New knives are nice but why pay the incredible amount they cost.

looks like a welded rat tail knife... not sure its worth fixing.
Too much work for a knife.
You should see how a Japanese craftsman does it, way more tedious process for the sake of perfection and good quality, especially those smiths specializing in Japanese steel.
...then why are you watching? Definitely not too much work. Or do you just toss a knife out when it gets a little dull?
