I just learned more about race strategy in 37 minutes than I could with any amount of coaching. This is the kind of access that us racing noobs need! Thank you for sharing.
I have to agree with everyone else Matt. Your commentary really makes the video. It really helps all of us racers (and non-racers!) to understand more of what's going on. Thanks for going out of your way to add all the commentary.
This was an amazing race!!! I love the onboard commentary as well. Seriously, had me on the edge of my seat all the way to the finish... sorry about your team mate, but you guys had an amazing strategy until that point. *hats off* to you, gents.
That was a master class in dynamic race strategy! Excellent driving but also enlightening commentary. The only sport I can think of that requires you to make these kinds of strategic decisions on the fly (after your team mate overheated) is road race cycling when a group goes off the front in a breakaway. People who are not team mates have to decide if and how to work together to pass through the air efficiently and try to gap the pack at a sustainable pace. I had no idea Miata racing involved this kind of thought. What a great video! Thank you for making it!
thank you so much for this. the final analysis at the end about how you could have won that chess match (especially as a chess player) was particularly beautiful. Great racing, and great insight.
So rad to watch you up front this weekend, made us norcal boyz n girlz at home proud!! Really impressive performance Matt, in a rented car even, big congrats👍🏼
These cars are low horsepower, and they get an advantage from drafting each other (following in the slipstream). The sooner they make contact with each other, the better the acceleration/drafting, so as I am leaving some of the corners I am counterintuitively dragging the brake (light brake pressure) to allow the car behind to catch up and make contact as soon and as softly as possible!
Great drive and commentary. How are you doing heel toe with basically 0 change in braking? Its one of the biggest issue I have with the Miata pedals. When I blip I tend to brake more and upset the car. Any hints?
Some people bend their throttle pedal to make it a more ideal height compared to the brake pedal. But the biggest issue for me is if the car has too aggressive of a brake pad compound (Gloc 16 or 18 up front, hawk blues, etc). If it has that aggressive of a brake pad, any slight modulation error while doing your heel toe could result in a lockup, and this one reason that I use less aggressive brake compounds (Gloc12 front, 10 rear. Or even 10 front, 8 rear). I know a lot of the guys that use aggressive compounds skip gears on downshifts.
what kind of lap times would you neet to get before being fast enough to race and how much does it cost to race in that class assuming your not overspending on stuff that wont help much?
These (and most other) cars pull ignition timing when they get over a certain water temperature, which happened to Danny as the bumper was stuck in his radiator opening
@@MattCresciRacing thank you, I’ve only been running spec for the last 5 events but ran ITS for year. Wow tgere is a lot to learn here. Should be fun this weekend. I’m at Daytona now orange 23 SMT
Excellent run. Unfortunately Voight controlled the end of the race and popped to pass to early which Preston took advantage of. Nothing you could’ve done in the heat of the moment!

Great race Matthew! Whether he knew it or not, Voight controlled the run to the checkered flag....
That was phenomenal! Commentary absolutely amazing and crucial! Learning curve up to sky! Hats off 👏👏👏
The commentary is fantastic, the captions are a much better idea than talking over the soundtrack. Great racing too!

Another amazing race , like everyone says the commentary is amazing
Amazing race Matt, my god 🔥 . Super interactive, very intense.
sheeesh the strategy in this race was intense. Great commentary!
I'd rather watch this than any NASCAR race, your commentary was far more informative than the chatterboxes on TV.
That was one of the best, most entertaining race video's I've ever seen. Miata racing is so much fun, I want to go race right now!
That my friend was awesome!!
Nicely done ! And thank you for the commentary and strategy mix !
This might be the best in-car I've ever watched
I really appreciate the work you put into these videos! Keep it up!!!
Hello Kitty alone made it a great video...but the racing insight and commentary made it awesome. Good job
Fabulous race craft!
I just learned some good race craft! Thank you.
That was beautiful.
Great stuff Matt!
Great video and race, the commentary really helped me appreciate everything going on.

First video of yours I've come across and instantly subscribed! Keep it up. Absolutely love all spec Miata content
Great run and thanks for the commentary!
This was more exciting to watch than any NASCAR race I've seen since Dale died.
great commentary
Fantastic. Thx for the ride-long!
That was awesome. Thank you so much for posting and with your commentary. It takes the race to another level.
Great video and even better commentary. I learned more in this video then all of the other SM videos I have ever watched.
Love the commentary on the video! Great driving. Team peoples champ baby!
Fantastic drive and great video, Watched it live and this video shows what transpired much better, thank you.
Awesome race guys! Congrats Matt

so nice to see a noob to daytona that understands the importance of the draft and being hooked up as soon as possible. Great run!
Awesome drive, really appreciated your commentary! Congratulations!
That was the most incredible SM video ever! Love the commentary. And great racing!
Wow. Best SM video ever. Thank you for sharing your thoughts as the race progressed. Great drive!
Masterclass! Thanks.

That was a great race to watch. Thanks for posting.
Nice race. Great video
legend
just wow!
Racecraft at it's finest here
Awesome job! Be proud
Great video and commentary that helps total noob understand some of the dynamics of racing. Can you explain the references to brake drag?

Got it! Thank you@@MattCresciRacing . That was fun to watch!
rough start but this was surprisingly wholesome
Love it

Great example explaining why the introvert, one man operation has zero chance of running up front in SM.
How can you tell that the car is pulling ignition timing?
These (and most other) cars pull ignition timing when they get over a certain water temperature, which happened to Danny as the bumper was stuck in his radiator opening
