I'm a guitarist been playing over 25 years music has always put a roof over my head been in a few bands here in Seattle and I wanna say that these guys are some of the best song writers I've heard since the 90s.
1:56 - 2:09 the way josh transitions between calm vocals and that "FOR DEATH AND GLORY" oooooOOOoohhhh is UNMATCHED 3:59 - 4:03 i love that haunting echo vocal he does so much. it's so sick favorite vocals i've heard in a LONG time from a rock song:
🔥Lyrics:🔥 [Verse 1] Crash against wave upon wave, woah To strange horizons, oohhh Heel to the mist and the wind, yeah You make the movement, oohhh [Chorus] Woah, as you can tell This was the age of the caravel Woah, as you can tell These are times you'll remember well [Verse 2] Sail to the end of the world, woah For death or glory, oohhh Bow with your face to the sky, yeah We are the movement, oohhh [Instrumental] [Chorus] Woah, as you can tell This was the age of the caravel Woah, as you can tell These are times you’ll remember well [Instrumental] Woah
Absolutely; now if the “purist” gatekeepers would just get out of the way, Greta Van Fleet could be one of the greatest rock bands of the 21st century.
A fantastic album! I am 62 years and nothing this good has come out in decades. This might end up as the start of a Post-Pandemic music renaissance. Truly a breakout moment for this band. You can put your Zeppelin comparisons aside...they are 100% on their own now!
I am always THRILLED when a band I like puts out an album breaking their previous bests. Babymetals 'metalgalaxy', Starsets 'vessels', Ninja Sex Partys 'the prophacy' and Gloryhammers 'Legends from Beyond The Galactic Terrorvortex' are just a few that come to mind. Oh man, I am thrilled for weeks by the music I hear on repeat after discovering those new songs
Caravel, a light sailing ship of the 15th, 16th, and 17th centuries in Europe, much-used by the Spanish and Portuguese for long voyages. Apparently developed by the Portuguese for exploring the coast of Africa, the caravel's chief excellence lay in its capacity for sailing to windward. I had to look it up. Thought it would give context for those like me who are clueless on these things. 😁 really like this one.
love itt. i’m currently learning about it school, i just thought it was such a coincidence that the songs came out and a day later i’m learning all about it in class
@@leecutty8184 it was around the same time, but i believe caravels were made to be used for trade. pretty sure they were most often used in asian trade in the indian ocean area
And Christopher Columbus famously sailed from Europe with three caravels , and eventually reached the shores of the "New World" (the american continent). A very poignant historical reference there, which I personally found to give this amazing track great depth of meaning.
For those who don't know, a Caravel is a, "small, fast Spanish or Portuguese sailing ship of the 15th-17th centuries." One of the main reasons I love this song is because it has that sailing-like feel to it, with the rocking melodies and such
You know a song is special when you fall asleep with it in your head, wake in the middle of the night with it in your head and awake in the morning, you guessed it, with it in your head! Now, if only I could get it out of my head during the day.
I agree sounds Rush-like. And that is fantastic! I really don't understand why anyone would dislike a group who basically pays homage to the best bands out there. This band is incredibly talented.
Because people don't recognise that they pay homage to the greats and assume they're ripping them off. Pretty stupid assumption honestly Edit: if Slash from guns and roses praises greta van fleet then you know they're good. That man knows good from shit.
Idk. I've never heard Rush in them at all. I hear everyone saying it but Rush a Zep are pretty much my top two bands of all time and while I DEFINITELY heard Zeppelin in their early stuff, I never really picked out any Rush from anything they made. Maybe I'm just too busy listening to Neil 😂
NOT like Rush. NOT like Zeppelin. Definitely like Greta Van Fleet. LOVE LOVE this song... Killer melodies and oh man, that guitar, those vocals. EVERYTHING.
GvF sound like Zeppelin,Rush, and Pink Floyd but with there own unique sound as well a I know is these young men are talented as hell and they are making damn good music
Gdy usłyszałam , jak śpiewa drugi raz refren : Woah, as you can tell This was the age of the caravel..... to wszystko mi w środku zawirowało, ten głos, niesamowity, trudno nawet opisać to uczucie, którego doznałam. Ciągle do tego wracałam , żeby jeszcze raz poczuć to całym swoim jestestwem. Znakomita płyta, muzyka i wokal jakby z innego systemu. Absolutnie najlepsza płyta , która pojawiła się w ostatnich latach.
They’ve really come a long way since 2017. I feel like the “ripoff” criticism was warranted then but this most recent album really had them come into their own style. This guitar riff is easily the best of 2021, killer stuff.
I think Jake is just going really low on the neck of his guitar and not pushing the strings down all the way. I could be wrong, but that's what I think.
These guys are incredibly talented! Everything is spot on! They are Queen, The beatles, Led Zep, and Rush all rolled up into one. What it leads to ... Who the heck are these guys? Very unique. I love the music! Thank you for being Greta Van Fleet!
Very cool reading all four comments. I graduated HS in 1968, and at times it feels like a long time ago, others times much closer to now - the relativity of time... I don't know how Josh does the vocals at the outro of this song but it's absolutely amazing. I have never heard any singer do what he does; perhaps never even heard any musical instrument do this. @@lewisner He's come to mind on some songs I admit, surprisingly because I'm not really familiar with most of Yes's music but Jon Anderson had a very distinctive and memorable voice. What I love is that Josh has such an effortless wide powerful range that I don't believe I've heard from any other singer.

People calling this an oddball but I totally love Caravel, I literally feel like a pirate hanging off the side of a ship on the high seas listening to it
I really don't understand people calling this the weak link of the album, it has a sort of novel simplicity that nothing else on the album has. This will play VERY well in concert.
If I were to pick an odd man out in the album, it'd definitely be My Way, Soon. It's still a great track, but it doesn't feel like it belongs to the more mythical tone that every other song is going for.
Gods damn that melodic riff is *everything* I love the guitar tone in this album so damn much!! And that falsetto "ooo" gives me chills every time (also as a ship enthusiast the title/subject of this song makes me very happy)

Any award is to basic for them ... they just want to play for us 🙌🏼 !!! ...

Forreal. Dont think they care anyways. They look like they are just happy and having fun playing AMAZING music.
Not being nominated for a Grammy should be considered a badge of honor these days.
Didn't you hear a new Miley Cyrus song came out lmfao
Unpopular opinion: this just might be the best song on the album... Joshs voice is UNREAL and the guitar... YES
Yeah the riff @ 2:30 you cant help but groove to that...probably my favorite right now off the album
Favorite song on the album for sure . Next to Age of Machine or Light my Love

Let’s go more music from the best band
the intro is amazing
Rush vibes, but very fine with that, love it!
Yes, strong Rush vibes here, but still their own...
That’s exactly what I thought. A lot of the little licks on the album are also giving me Coheed vibes and I’m absolutely loving it.
Yes! The intro totally reminded me of rush, but they definitely sound like their own in this song
Yes, the riff sounds similar to Freewill.
GvF sound like Zeppelin,Rush, and Pink Floyd but with there own unique sound as well a I know is these young men are talented as hell and they are making damn good music
This is gonna be their best album yet
Key word YET

This is only their second full-length album.
