    I think there are two major things that contribute to a lot of the things you guys discussed. A lot of black Germans in our generation are first generation immigrants. Majority of our parents came in the 90s or early 2000s. Some came as academics but their degrees weren’t accepted and some didn’t have an academic background whatsoever. Whereas in the UK you had black Caribbeans coming in the 60s. So time is definitely an important factor. And then one pretty basic thing, there are way less black people in Germany than there are in the UK. It kind of „makes sense“ that there isn’t a black middle class yet. There hasn’t been enough time to establish one 🤷🏾‍♀️ and we (as in first generation immigrants) are the first ones who can establish a middle class.

      Very factual. I agree with you 100 percent. Though I do think these conversations need to start happening and a little bit more visibility of the middle class is needed, no matter how small. I don’t think change will come in a vacuum.

    Been looking at that, there was a lady on tiktok that was a hairdresser and was struggling. I think she has now moved to the Netherlands. But yay! I'm so happy because I'm from London and I wasn't sure how to support.
    THIS IS SO PERFECT FOR ME! LET'S GO! First time seeing the pod. Very interested.

    Another great conversation and everything on point. The Habesha rapper Sammy de Luxe was suppose to be the unifier and spearhead as well as people like Joy Denalane and back in the nineties Moses Pelman, but I guess they were unoffficially "cancelled" by the German music industry.
    Remember this is the country where black artists like Milli Vanilli, Boney M, Nana, Tic Tac Toe or Snap etc made millions if not aggregated billions for the Germans. So they extracted just like they do in Africa our resources and have no interest in changing it soon. They´ll rather invite us in their homes as you stated, than share the profits. It´s their national DNA, they´ll even rather let other ethnic groups occupy spaces which are culturally ours (see the movies from the US they promote with black ppl, usually those that suit their interests than those reflecting black ppl.).
    The German actor Boris Kodjoe who is a respected one in the USA, esp. in the Afro-American community, once said he was never offered a role in Germany, outside of a criminal or asylum seeker, while playing leading roles in the USA. That´s the current state, so the fight is on...

      Yes he is. However my concerns are with the industry itself and the dominance of non-Black rappers. Not necessarily the one-off. Thanks for contributing.

    Hey guys very interesting, but shouldnt we stop talking about "black" and "white"..m 43 year old and have never seen a person in that color,,,only people of different shades of brown

    • @ConvosXpodcast

      Unfortunately, its very political now and affects many lives everyday, more than just a colour of my skin it has become a representation, both negative and positive. So hiding from that fact won't change it and there is a lot we need to heal from collectively as Black people.

    Who are “ Black “ Germans ? What makes a Black German ? Is skin colour the only identity there is ? What about the fact that nowhere in Africa do people call themselves “ Black “ ?

    • @ConvosXpodcast
      @ConvosXpodcast  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I feel you Gilbert. Unfortunately these terms are political now and it affects our real lives everyday. If you live anywhere outside of Africa, it affects you.
      In Ghana Ashantis use ‘bibi nii” and “obroni” though they don’t carry the negative tones it does in the west. I am sure South Africa has their own terms, “White South Africans”, “Coloureds“ etc which came with its negative political impacts In the past not so much now.

    Black German? Its hard to get that across my small head as it is to accept a white Somali or Indian Nigerian. I guess it makes sense if people can chose what they are these days. But to me, one can't join a racial tribe

      Don't worry it is part of blacks to always want to be other than what they are. They love claiming they are Black British , Black Irish, Black German or whatever because they hate their origins but at the same time they hate the natives of those white countries too. They love to claim otherness because it gives them status and differentiates them from their mudhut brethren in their Wakandaland. No other racial group ever does this but blacks. Have you observed a Japanese person born in Germany call himself German? Nope - because being Japanese comes with great pride and a proud history.

      @@bookinsights1092Very ignorant comment. What do you say about White South Africans, Labanese/Persian Ghanaians, Japanese Americans, Hispanic Americans, Italian Americans. Your dislike for Black people is really showing. Anyway this podcast is clearly not for you so feel free to move on.

      "German" is a nationality as well as Somali and Nigerian. Germany is one of the few states which really want to break the circle of "racial thinking" linking ethnicity to nationality. So Black is not a race because "races" do not exist. There is one human race but different ethnicities. Accepting your black identity can go along with accepting your identity as a German citizen
