That's quite an interesting perspective about your identity becoming fluid, given the fact that you have no Chinese parents and no connection to Chinese culture and the Chinese language.
After I started to learn Chinese seriously this year, and combined with how the Western society sees me as, I've been feeling a slow identity shift towards my ethnic background, and I realized that I've been missing out on so much! I consider myself quite lucky to live in an environment that has a substantial amount of ethnic Chinese people as I enjoy talking to people from China
After watching some clips on your adventures in China, I find myself wondering how my experiences will be like when I do travel there, and whether or not I will face disappointment.
I wish you progress in your journey on finding your identity as you age, as will I.

Hi there, many thanks for sharing your story. It looks like we share a lot of the same feeling and thoughts. Great to hear that you've picked up the language and are starting to connect. Good luck on your travels too :)

I'm adopted from Central Asia. And I grew up in America. I'm an adult now and how you feel is how I feel. It's so fluid for sure . Thanks for this post, hope you can do more like it.

thank you, I'm glad that you can relate. Growing up it can be so confusing and yeah this is just what I've come to conclude now. Yes there will be new videos every week on these kinds of topics :)

Can totally relate to this although not adopted, I know exactly how you feel growing up in a society where you don't look like the majority and everyone assumes you're foreign. Great vid and funny too!

Thanks for your video. I’m half Swiss half Chinese and I grew up in japan. I was also very confused about my identity when I was a teen, like I don’t really belong to any culture, but now I think it’s cool.

Of course you are ethnically Chinese, which is a fact even when you have a barbecue with your mates. You are a British citizen by law and have been brought up with British culture, which is a fact even when you are surrounded with Chinese people in China. so, that's it.
