On the topic of the speed of light: Some scientist (I forgot who) made a thesis that the speed of light is not constant as we think. There wouldn't be huge variations in the speed, but it is possible for the particles to travel slightly slower or faster.
Actually, with this sort of Kepler data, you don't see an image go light then dark then light again. Instead you get a graph and at certain points you get a dip in the line. It's all terribly exciting.
"Twinkling" stars is actually photons interacting with turbulent gases in the upper atmosphere. What you are referring to (Things passing in front of stars) can only be detected by hyper sensitive telescopes.
Gotham is not really tropes as much as it reflects how Gotham pretty much is depicted (that city is a big noir trope). But the writing is pretty cheesy, but I wouldn't say bad, I would actually say the writing is pretty solid, taking a cheesing thing and making it work. That specific trope he mentions is quite over the top though. But I think the vibe he'd gotten from the 3 episodes before it would present itself differently. But I can see where you are coming from, but I would suggest people to take a peak at Gotham if they haven't, the writing is cheesy at times but they make it work.
