White farmers thrive in Zambia years after driven from Zimbabwe

- One of former President Robert Mugabe’s most controversial policies was the land reform programme of 2000 which made it legal for black Zimbabweans to seize properties from white farmers - without compensation.
The policy was meant to consolidate his support but resulted in thousands of white commercial farmers being driven off the land.
They sought safety in neighbouring countries such as Zambia, where their skill and experience has had positive results.

The situation in Zimbabwe reminds me of what happened in Haiti. Toussaint L'overture wanted to establish a free society where whites would be welcomed to stay and contribute to reconstruction. Dessalines and his gang had other ideas and proceeded to massacre the white population. Haiti would be so much better off today if they had followed plan "A".

You miss the part where an embargo was placed on Haiti by the western powers at that time including the USA. Haiti was also made to compensate France for the losses. Now America is in again running one puppet regime to another. Keep retelling history the way it suits you.

The slavers during the Haitian revolution were met with equal brutality they meted out on their slaves. The response of the slaves to their slavers seems more of a deserved punishment.

in one of my previous workplaces, i had a colleague who was born in the 60s and he spent some time in rhodesia. i asked him if he ever spent time in rhodesia and what it was like. he told me it was the place to be as it was the breadbasket of the country and of the continent. he also mentioned that the currency of rhodesia was the strongest in the world. and he also mentioned that when rhodesia was phased out and became zimbabwe, they laughed at zambia. now zambia can't stop laughing at zimbabwe.
Rhodesia was also an oppressive apartheid whose non-white populace lived in poverty and fear. There are lessons to be learned from Rhodesia, both good and bad.

Danicka Addams...you don't know what you're talking about. Read about how the British invaded Kenya or Zimbabwe, and other African countries, and drove the natives off their land. Then to make the natives work for them for free, they introduced hut tax, for the mud huts that the natives were living in. The hut tax was to be paid mainly with cash, which was only available by working for the whites in the farms. So these white farmers used black labor for virtually free, and the cash crops they farmed were sold to Europe to make themselves rich---at the expense of the black natives. These were the farms that were handed over to their descendants. And now they falsely claim that the land rightfully belong to them, when it was stolen from the natives in the first place. So yes, the current white farmers in Africa , most of them, are beneficiaries of the colonial whites' loot.

I spent about 4 years in Zambia in the 80s where I was involved in commercial farming of veggies for export. It was physically dangerous, disease, motor vehicle accidents, but I was a young man and it was great experience and adventure. I am great full for the experience and the opportunity to have helped improve the farming in Zambia. Due to family reasons I returned to the US.
Zimbabwe is ruined. And the new leader won’t make that much of a difference. It went down hill after it was renamed from Rhodesia.

People born and raised in Zimbabwe - having misfortune of being too pale for their own good - grow food in Zambia and sell it back to Zimbabwe. And 30 short years ago it was other way around. Colonialism is over - some have commented - and I'm sure it is. Only I don't think the original plan included blacks in Zimbabwe dying of hunger in the process...
They have their black leaders to thank for that.

What most people don’t know is that the Boers have been in Southern Africa longer than most of the black tribes, there was and still is a mass migration to souther Africa after the white settlements. The migration was for a lot of reasons, escaping the predation of Arabs being one, escaping predation by other tribes another, drought, economic refugees. Of course, the migration was helped by the fact that there was a massive “die back” of the local black population after the whites settled, this was almost inevitable because the whites bought diseases the blacks had no immunity, colds, measles, mumps, chickenpox did as much damage as smallpox.
