I was born here in Virginia. I moved away when I was 10 & I’m now 30. My mother n law stays here & I honestly don’t know why she’s here but this is my second time trying to give this place a try. I currently stay in the Richmond/glen allen area. My husband & I have decided this isn’t the place for us. We are moving back to Texas in 2 weeks. This place seems to be slower than what I’m used too. It’s definitely a place for retired & military people.
This place is for people with no culture. They don't like doing anything here. Especially in Newport News. Go back to Texas as soon as possible. Two weeks is too long. You just might find yourself stuck.
stumbled across this video so glad that I'm bless to be born and raised in L.A. Cali. I had a friend that moved from Cali to Virginia. She lived in Richmond and stayed in Norfolk. She would try to get me to come visit but I never did. Be watching this video glad I didn't. I like to hit the town at night and have variety of things to do and not be bored.
Smart. Don't waste your money coming over here. I know there are tons of things to do in L.A. and there is nothing to do here. I lived in San Diego and there was always something to do. San Diego is just too expensive. I had this guy who lived in Virginia Beach argue with me to the point I have to block him. He said Virginia Beach was popping. No it isn't. Can have enormous cemeteries like new Orleans especially 757 VA . It's alot of bad history back from the Generations way before me. It's a horrible place to stay and if you are full of love and life it will suck you dry
I must be weird or something, but I LOVED all of Virginia when I lived there back in the 80s, but there was one thing I didn't care for. The City Tax for our cars. I don't know why that bothered me so much .. maybe because I came from California where they were not required. I was a paramedic in Virginia Beach so my time spent there was even more thrilling. I adored the nature and the history of Virginia and ache with joy whenever I remember the 4 seasons. Thanks for your assessment though. P.S. I even liked New York City .. so there really must be something wrong with me. Haha

Thanks for making this video! I currently live in NY with my boyfriend and we've both been here our whole lives. We live in Troy and it's sometimes referred to as "Troilet", haha. People visit for the architecture downtown and there's some nice gift shops but the Hudson River is polluted and gross and apartments are expensive because of nearby colleges (we're currently living with his parents), etc. Terrible for taxes, I don't know..more knowledgeable folks have more details than I do. I don't want to anchor down here and join the rat race. My boyfriend and I are hoping to get a travel trailer, explore a little and move closer to the beach, hoping for North Carolina. Maybe buy a plot of land in the future, eventually build our own small house when we want children. I'm determined. I'm crazy. I'm desperate to move.
cottoncritterI hear Charlotte, North Carolina is a good place to leave. There's jobs galore and the home are pretty reasonable. Raleigh is nice also, but I think Charlotte would be better. I'm looking to get away from the south. Living here in Newport News, Va just made me hate the south. I hope you and your boyfriend find the perfect place to settle down in.

Moved to Newport news Dec 2017 I have hated it and been miserable ever since. This video is too accurate. Bad energy, fucked up people, over run and nothing to do. I could say much more but I'd be here all night.
Thanks for the video. I'm in the military and thinking of moving that way. I visited last year for a week and loved the weather and my kid who has asthma had no symptoms during the summer week. But I'm wondering why does everything close so early?
Pollen is off the chain over here. I am suffering right as I am typing this. One would think I own stock in Puffs or Kleenex tissue. This isn't a good place for someone asthma. Your kid was just lucky to not have suffered an attack and that is awesome. I just wouldn't move here or anywhere in Virginia. I want to go back to the west coast because I didn't have a problem with allergies until I moved here.
I wasn't raised in Virginia as a military brat i moved all over the country before settling in Virginia, and I think it's beautiful here. I grew up in Arlington Virginia, I absolutely loved it. Only reason I went south of Springfield was to go camping or to the beach . Northern Virginia is the best place to live in the DMV IMO.

CONS about living in VA...1. Upon entering the state you are immediately greeted with suffocating regulations such as "radar detectors illegal"/ " speed limits enforced by aircraft"...2. VA still has its share of toll booths where you continually pay for roads strewn with potholes. 3. VA has high taxes, overpriced tourist attractions, & heavy traffic congestion. 4. Many people in VA seem to be rude & snobby. 5. VA has lost a lot of it's southern charm because of the ever-encroaching DC influence of corrupt politics. PROS about living in VA : 1. People in VA can always flee to the nearby Outer Banks for a "getaway". 2. While living in VA , you can always plan vacations not too far away - like North & South Carolina, where all Virginians go for GOOD bbq & GOOD beaches... 3. If you are craving good fried, "Calabash style" seafood & country cooking in VA, you can always make a quick trip to NC... 4. If you live in VA & forgot what a front bumper on a car looks like without a front license plate, there is immediate access to getting on I-85 & I-95 South... 5. If you live in VA & wish the state would recapture some of it southern charm, there is always the hope of the District of Columbia relocating to California where it belongs....

I'm from NY and I have heard a lot of people saying that the people here are rude. however, this is not my experience. The people here are very friendly. I don't love it here, but I like it a lot. It's different from NY but it's a beautiful place to live. I think Virginia is what you make of it.

Northern Virginia is by FAR the worst place I've ever lived in. It's way TOO expensive here(currently paying $1600 for a simple 1 bedroom apartment in Arlington), Taxes here are more expensive than the rest of the state, no places to go to other than D.C, no beach(closest beach from us is 3-4 hours away) , metro here is one of the worst in the country (takes 1 hour and 30 min to go 8 miles). Also, the "metro" train doesn't directly connect with the airport. It take 3-5 different buses to get on the train systems. They even charge you $20 to get into D.C(from I-66) even though it's a shitty 2 lane highway. On top of that, there's no nightlife of any kind. Casinos here are pretty bad. It's TOO cold in the winter and TOO humid in the summer. RUDE people. I've lived in over 12 cities in the United States including Las Vegas, San Diego, Orange county etc... and this is the WORST place I've ever seen. I'm happy I've moved out of NOVA.

You definitely should give it a second thought. There is absolutely nothing going on here. Rural Virginia is nice but it isn't enough to make that drastic change/move. This will not be a permanent place for anyone coming from San Diego. I love San Diego but it is too expensive.
With the french fries I must say no matter where I am in the world including New port News because I lived there years ago, BUT I TELL THEM; I WANT FRESH HOT FRIES OUT THE GREASE! IF THEY ARE NOT I WILL....send them back. IT ALWAYS WORKS. Cause its a pain in the ass when people send stuff back.
I tried that and they are only crunchy for a few seconds. It's because they don't fry them long enough. 3 minutes isn't long enough. I want them to be crunchy down to the last one, not the first one. I just stop going. I haven't been in two going on three years.

Save your money and go somewhere that has something going on. Every weekend there isn't a thing going on. When there is, the turn out is very, very low.
To be honest, the Chesapeake and Virginia Beach areas were very nice. I was stationed there for school and never had a problem with people being rude. Nobody knew how to drive and I’m from way further south than Virginia. But the Newport News and Hampton Rhodes areas are the absolute worst parts of that side of Virginia. I’m sure you would of been much happier with the Chesapeake side. I’m happy to be going to back with orders there.
I lived in Virginia Beach from 1990-1995. It was awesome because I move there from Ohio. Anything is better than Ohio. 1995 to 2001 I lived in San Diego California. 2001 to present Newport News Va. I didn't know how much I missed San Diego until it was gone. The best place I have ever lived was Sunny San Diego. Just one more thing to say. The reason everyone seem so nice to you is because you are not black. I have more problems with my own people than you can imagine. They will bend over backwards for you and give you the best treatment as if you were royalty. I don't expect that from them, I just wan to be treated with respect just like I give them. I guess people don't know anything where you live. I lived in manassas and woodbridge, people were actually pretty good at giving directions, and they were very friendly. I'm hoping to go back after college.
NO help no JOBS, TAXES high RENT. It's a military town and retirement community. ALLERGIES OMG they will mess you up I got chronic sinus, asthma and throat infections. Not this part of VA maybe Northern would be better Richmond the Capitol... I hear it's a dirty city and needs help.

I would love to move back to San Diego, but it just too expensive. My dream place is Alaska. When I lived in San Diego, I never had a problem with allergies. I don't know where to go really. It's all about where your money will allow you to go. Do you have a job that will transfer to another state? That is one option.

Loool good video I'm from va beach born and raised and I have visited all 7 cities over a 24 year spend and Newport news was one of the most hood places I have ever been in lol my boy stayed there for a few years va beach is problem the better of the seven cities as far as more of a modern city/tourist feel. On the summer it's the best but in the winter the whole state sucks ass... I'd rather be in Miami for the winter but ya can't beat va summers
yes take a trip back out to southwest Virginia it has so much more to offer than Norfolk and it is hell of a lot and nicer, one tip she did have right is Virginia beach is a dirty place, was the last time I visited.

Rent is high in almost every city. Commonwealth state = more taxes + car property tax. Newer the car, even in years = high car relief taxes. Virginia Beach- Something in the Water event comes to Virginia Beach, VA. Parking and hotel rentals are challenging in Oceanfront. Loud jet noises in certain cities. Town Center Virginia Beach = Downtown Norfolk. Downtown Norfolk- Its hard to park unless in parking garages. MacArthur Mall and some restaurants in downtown area. Military Circle doesn't have nothing there-- Janaf Shopping Center = New Military Circle Mall. Norfolk has Ocean view beach. Chesapeake - Certain areas in Greenbrier, Battlefield Blvd, etc. Hampton Roads Bridge/Downtown Tunnels are hectic. You have to use EZPass in certain areas except Gilmerton and Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnels. Richmond- Downtown college town (VCU) Some jobs--depend on certain cities. Richmond cities are almost equal to Hampton Roads (7 cities) Northern Virginia- Heavy traffic, cost of living is high(unless living offskirts from area). Virginia's minimum wage is still $7.25 an hour, since 2008. Amazon, Aldi, Lidl in Virginia for decent wages, but those jobs filled up. Temp agencies offer low paying jobs. You will need multiple jobs/income to support yourself. Virginia seems at attract military, government, and retirees. If you want a better paying job, get a trade. Try college or job that reimburse tuition. Virginia is sometimes called outmigration, because some people are relocating. Not many people in their 20's or 30's would want to stay in Virginia. Only move if you can afford to and be happy. If you want to relocate, research the areas.- * Use out of state address to apply for jobs. Or mention that you will self-relocate to employers. Self-relocate means moving out of pocket. Some employers might pay for relocation, depending on the career.

Most emails don't work well out of state,especially hotmail. If you have financial aid, go back to college for degree or trade. *****...I'm from NYC but I'm a "RARE BREED" because I actually was raised to have manners and to be kind. I actually like the Hampton Roads area where it's not that slow but it's not crazy and fast past like NYC. Visited VA Beach, Chesapeake, and Norfolk a few times but if I ever get a job down there I would definitely move there because not everyone's experience is the same. It depends who you be around and your intentions being down there, or wherever you live.

VA is absolutely Beautiful if you get out & See Nature & Visit things outside of the Area not just stay at Home bc me & my Son Moved 2 Dallas & that's what I Call BORING!!! No Bridges no Coast no Water no Nature!!! We Loved our Trip 4 Spring Break & we're considering Moving there bc we went everywhere including up the East Coast 2 MD!!! I can't Wait 2 get out of TX bc the Traffic in VA was nothing Compared 2 TX!!! But you have 2 Find your Quality of Life 2 :)

When you have Children your Safety & their Friends are Valuable but when they're Older you're Free 2 Find a State that's Satisfying 2 you bc every Place I'm sure isn't Gold & Grows Old & every Season has an Ending 2 another Beginning but I Plan on Buying a Boat & a Dog & also looking in NC probably the Triangle Area & we enjoyed CA 2!!! But you're your own person & your Life & Opinions are your Experiences not anybody else's so there's no Wrong or Right!!! You don't want 2 be Lonely or Lacking in Happiness bc we all need Peace where we Go not where we've Gone & look Forward 2 something New & that's when God will Lead you & give you Time Decide 2!!! Im currently up in the Baltimore area and am considering moving to the Norfolk area as Baltimore is completely downhill now days. Mainly with the high crime and the non stop panhandling. Even outside of the city limits. So where did you move from?
Hello MrWill1985. Thanks for watching my video. I moved here from San Diego, California. I'm originally from Ohio (1971-1991). This is How I got to Va. From Ohio to Virginia Beach (1991-1995), from Virginia Beach to San Diego (1995-2001), From San Diego to Newport News (2001-present). San Diego was just too expensive. A lot to do there and miss it so much. It's mainly what are you will to give up. There is not much crime in Norfolk like Baltimore. Panhandling, I never seen it there. That doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Property tax on very freaking thing. Yearly state inspections. There really truly not a thing here to do but eat. I wouldn't transfer over here from Baltimore. If that is what your trying to do. I would do more research of other states. I just don't want anyone regretting moving here unless they lived in a small town with not a thing to do. I would definitely leave Baltimore because I know they are off the chain there. Good luck

I moved up to York County PA to get away from the crazyness of Baltimore but I still work in Baltimore and now days Baltimore is real bad. I only come to Baltimore for work now days and mostly go to Harrisburg on Saturdays and stay in York Sundays. I may also look at Charlotte NC. I was going to look at Richmond but I know crime used to be high in Richmond but I dont think it still is.
I hear Charlotte is a good place. The job market is good there. I was thinking about moving to Charlotte years ago. I'm going to pass because I'm so done with the south. There is no Southern Hospitality here in Va and I don't want to risk it in Charlotte.
I saw numerous google street views of downtown Charlotte and downtown Charlotte is really nice. Much better then Baltimore and even Philadelphia. My parents plan to retire somewhere around Shenandoah and if that does occur then I may consider moving to Charlotte. But if not Ill stay in Pennsylvania. I dont want to move to Pittsburgh simply because no matter where I live I support the Baltimore Ravens fans and I know the Ravens primarily ridicule the Steelers fans. And we have plenty of Steelers fans in Baltimore. Hopefully the Panthers fans dont ridicule the Ravens fans highly. I may give Richmond a try. I heard crime used to be high there but it lately seems that its going down. And depending on how affordable it is where I live I may buy a retreat home in West Virginia.
Charlotte is really nice, but I am so done with the south you just don't know. I hope to go back west to either California or Arizona. My dream place is Alaska. I'm from New York and honestly New Yorkers are ten times nicer and down to earth compared to these people in Virginia. My husband and I moved from NY to this state three years ago, thinking this place would be a better quality of life. Boy was we wrong! This place is crawling with cops. My husband is Spanish and has gotten stopped by the cops several times for nothing , like the cops enjoy picking on certain types of folks. Traffic laws are so strict! It's hard to find jobs here and I have education and experience and still haven't found a job. Not much to do here, can't wait to get out!! We're moving to Sacramento soon! Thanks God, can't wait to move to Cali!

They love it and it's affordable. Then there's North Carolina and Atlanta. Pretty much any place would be better than here. I wish we could move back to NY, if it wasn't for the crazy rental costs we would probably move back there. I wish you all the best truly. You deserve to be happy. Life is too short for us to be living in states that are getting us down. It's too much better things out there. I also feel like there's a reason for everything, maybe you feel this way also because something's trying to pull you into another direction, towards a better place, whatever it is, keeping pushing forward. I agree 100 percent. I've thought about Texas. I'm gonna pass because everything is bigger in Texas. The bugs must be off the chain. I am scared of bugs. Only bugs I can tolerate are dragon flies, butterflies and those annoying flies. I lived in San Diego and the bugs weren't bag at all over there. San Diego is super expensive and going back there is just a dream.

@Nancy SM It all depends on where you live in California. San Diego is off the chain. You can find a few apartments that are expensive, but you have more bedrooms and a second bathroom. You will also have to look at It like this: we don't have California's weather and/or attractions so it will be cheaper to live here than over there. Please don't ever think about leaving California for over here. There is absolutely not a thing happening over here whatsoever. There is no culture here and people don't do a thing over here.

Thanks I'm from the West Coast. What I don't like about NoVA - Alexandria is it's so crowded I never want to go anywhere.Traffic on weekends, rude people, no one know where they are going. Not enough roads, I been here about a year and I know how to get all over the place but I can't wait to leave if ever. Can't wait for the day to move to the Las Vegas suburbs. On the weekends people are telling me lets go to DC, I'm like no thanks I'm heading to Richmond to get away from all this for the weekend. Too fast paced for me.

I dont like it because to me its too big. The thing about newport news that falls flat is that its not big enough for the people who want to live the city life and not small enough for the people who want a small town kinda life. The rent and cost of living do not match the minimum wage, and you pretty much HAVE to live with roommate(s) to get by, unless you're college educated AND manage to find a job in your field. There are tons of jobs here, but the vast majority pay less than $10/hr. And the average rent is around $600 a month or higher, plus water, electric, and sanitation. The military bases here make up a large part of the population, so alot of people are here because they are forced to be here lol.

I hope you are joking. There isn't a thing in Toano. How did you decide to move to Toano? Did you throw a dart at a map blindfolded? I wish I still lived in San Diego. I didn't know how good I had it until it was gone. If you have to work 3 jobs, you should do so. It will be like night and day. I think you should visit Toano before you make the biggest mistake of your life. Richmond is 40 miles away. Richmond isn't San Diego. Williamsburg is 17 or 20 miles away and it isn't San Diego. Unless you like nothing to do than Toano is the place for you. You can only go to nature parks so many times before you are done. Visit first. I can't stress that enough.

I was born here in Virginia. I moved away when I was 10 & I’m now 30. My mother n law stays here & I honestly don’t know why she’s here but this is my second time trying to give this place a try. I currently stay in the Richmond/glen allen area. My husband & I have decided this isn’t the place for us. We are moving back to Texas in 2 weeks. This place seems to be slower than what I’m used too. It’s definitely a place for retired & military people.
This place is for people with no culture. They don't like doing anything here. Especially in Newport News. Go back to Texas as soon as possible. Two weeks is too long. You just might find yourself stuck.

She would try to get me to come visit but I never did. Be watching this video glad I didn't. I like to hit the town at night and have variety of things to do and not be bored.

Can have enormous cemeteries like new Orleans especially 757 VA . It's alot of bad history back from the Generations way before me. It's a horrible place to stay and if you are full of love and life it will suck you dry
I must be weird or something, but I LOVED all of Virginia when I lived there back in the 80s, but there was one thing I didn't care for. The City Tax for our cars. I don't know why that bothered me so much .. maybe because I came from California where they were not required. I was a paramedic in Virginia Beach so my time spent there was even more thrilling. I adored the nature and the history of Virginia and ache with joy whenever I remember the 4 seasons. Thanks for your assessment though. P.S. I even liked New York City .. so there really must be something wrong with me. Haha

Thanks for making this video! I currently live in NY with my boyfriend and we've both been here our whole lives. We live in Troy and it's sometimes referred to as "Troilet", haha. People visit for the architecture downtown and there's some nice gift shops but the Hudson River is polluted and gross and apartments are expensive because of nearby colleges (we're currently living with his parents), etc. Terrible for taxes, I don't know..more knowledgeable folks have more details than I do. I don't want to anchor down here and join the rat race. My boyfriend and I are hoping to get a travel trailer, explore a little and move closer to the beach, hoping for North Carolina. Maybe buy a plot of land in the future, eventually build our own small house when we want children. I'm determined. I'm crazy. I'm desperate to move.

Moved to Newport news Dec 2017 I have hated it and been miserable ever since. This video is too accurate. Bad energy, fucked up people, over run and nothing to do. I could say much more but I'd be here all night.

I grew up in Arlington Virginia, I absolutely loved it. Only reason I went south of Springfield was to go camping or to the beach . Northern Virginia is the best place to live in the DMV IMO.

CONS about living in VA...1. Upon entering the state you are immediately greeted with suffocating regulations such as "radar detectors illegal"/ " speed limits enforced by aircraft"...2. VA still has its share of toll booths where you continually pay for roads strewn with potholes. 3. VA has high taxes, overpriced tourist attractions, & heavy traffic congestion. 4. Many people in VA seem to be rude & snobby. 5. VA has lost a lot of it's southern charm because of the ever-encroaching DC influence of corrupt politics. PROS about living in VA : 1. People in VA can always flee to the nearby Outer Banks for a "getaway". 2. While living in VA , you can always plan vacations not too far away - like North & South Carolina, where all Virginians go for GOOD bbq & GOOD beaches... 3. If you are craving good fried, "Calabash style" seafood & country cooking in VA, you can always make a quick trip to NC... 4. If you live in VA & forgot what a front bumper on a car looks like without a front license plate, there is immediate access to getting on I-85 & I-95 South... 5. If you live in VA & wish the state would recapture some of it southern charm, there is always the hope of the District of Columbia relocating to California where it belongs....
You hit the CONS right on the head. The PROS are okay. It is a quick state to get out of town in a hurry especially in the Hampton Roads area. They do have some good BBQ in North Carolina.

Northern Virginia is by FAR the worst place I've ever lived in. It's way TOO expensive here(currently paying $1600 for a simple 1 bedroom apartment in Arlington), Taxes here are more expensive than the rest of the state, no places to go to other than D.C, no beach(closest beach from us is 3-4 hours away) , metro here is one of the worst in the country (takes 1 hour and 30 min to go 8 miles). Also, the "metro" train doesn't directly connect with the airport. It take 3-5 different buses to get on the train systems. They even charge you $20 to get into D.C(from I-66) even though it's a shitty 2 lane highway.
On top of that, there's no nightlife of any kind. Casinos here are pretty bad. It's TOO cold in the winter and TOO humid in the summer. RUDE people.
I've lived in over 12 cities in the United States including Las Vegas, San Diego, Orange county etc... and this is the WORST place I've ever seen. I'm happy I've moved out of NOVA.

You definitely should give it a second thought. There is absolutely nothing going on here. Rural Virginia is nice but it isn't enough to make that drastic change/move. This will not be a permanent place for anyone coming from San Diego. I love San Diego but it is too expensive.
With the french fries I must say no matter where I am in the world including New port News because I lived there years ago, BUT I TELL THEM; I WANT FRESH HOT FRIES OUT THE GREASE! IF THEY ARE NOT I WILL....send them back. IT ALWAYS WORKS. Cause its a pain in the ass when people send stuff back.
I tried that and they are only crunchy for a few seconds. It's because they don't fry them long enough. 3 minutes isn't long enough. I want them to be crunchy down to the last one, not the first one. I just stop going. I haven't been in two going on three years.

To be honest, the Chesapeake and Virginia Beach areas were very nice. I was stationed there for school and never had a problem with people being rude. Nobody knew how to drive and I’m from way further south than Virginia. But the Newport News and Hampton Rhodes areas are the absolute worst parts of that side of Virginia. I’m sure you would of been much happier with the Chesapeake side. I’m happy to be going to back with orders there.
I lived in Virginia Beach from 1990-1995. It was awesome because I move there from Ohio. Anything is better than Ohio. 1995 to 2001 I lived in San Diego California. 2001 to present Newport News Va. I didn't know how much I missed San Diego until it was gone. The best place I have ever lived was Sunny San Diego. Just one more thing to say. The reason everyone seem so nice to you is because you are not black. I have more problems with my own people than you can imagine. They will bend over backwards for you and give you the best treatment as if you were royalty. I don't expect that from them, I just wan to be treated with respect just like I give them. I'm nice to them, they should be nice to me.

NO help no JOBS, TAXES high RENT. It's a military town and retirement community. ALLERGIES OMG they will mess you up I got chronic sinus, asthma and throat infections. Not this part of VA maybe Northern would be better Richmond the Capitol... I hear it's a dirty city and needs help.
My allergies are off the chain. One would think I have stock in Puffs or Kleenex tissues. Everything in Hampton Roads is horrible.

Loool good video I'm from va beach born and raised and I have visited all 7 cities over a 24 year spend and Newport news was one of the most hood places I have ever been in lol my boy stayed there for a few years va beach is problem the better of the seven cities as far as more of a modern city/tourist feel. On the summer it's the best but in the winter the whole state sucks ass... I'd rather be in Miami for the winter but ya can't beat va summers

Rent is high in almost every city. Commonwealth state = more taxes + car property tax. Newer the car, even in years = high car relief taxes.
Virginia Beach- Something in the Water event comes to Virginia Beach, VA. Parking and hotel rentals are challenging in Oceanfront. Loud jet noises in certain cities. Town Center Virginia Beach = Downtown Norfolk.
Downtown Norfolk- Its hard to park unless in parking garages. MacArthur Mall and some restaurants in downtown area. Military Circle doesn't have nothing there-- Janaf Shopping Center = New Military Circle Mall. Norfolk has Ocean view beach.
Chesapeake - Certain areas in Greenbrier, Battlefield Blvd, etc.
Hampton Roads Bridge/Downtown Tunnels are hectic. You have to use EZPass in certain areas except Gilmerton and Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnels.
Richmond- Downtown college town (VCU)
Some jobs--depend on certain cities. Richmond cities are almost equal to Hampton Roads (7 cities)
Northern Virginia- Heavy traffic, cost of living is high(unless living offskirts from area).
Virginia's minimum wage is still $7.25 an hour, since 2008.
Amazon, Aldi, Lidl in Virginia for decent wages, but those jobs filled up. Temp agencies offer low paying jobs.
You will need multiple jobs/income to support yourself. Virginia seems at attract military, government, and retirees. If you want a better paying job, get a trade. Try college or job that reimburse tuition.
Virginia is sometimes called outmigration, because some people are relocating.
Not many people in their 20's or 30's would want to stay in Virginia.
Only move if you can afford to and be happy. If you want to relocate, research the areas.- * Use out of state address to apply for jobs. Or mention that you will self-relocate to employers. Self-relocate means moving out of pocket. Some employers might pay for relocation, depending on the career.

*****...I'm from NYC but I'm a "RARE BREED" because I actually was raised to have manners and to be kind. I actually like the Hampton Roads area where it's not that slow but it's not crazy and fast past like NYC. Visited VA Beach, Chesapeake, and Norfolk a few times but if I ever get a job down there I would definitely move there because not everyone's experience is the same. It depends who you be around and your intentions being down there, or wherever you live.

Hello MrWill1985. Thanks for watching my video. I moved here from San Diego, California. I'm originally from Ohio (1971-1991). This is How I got to Va. From Ohio to Virginia Beach (1991-1995), from Virginia Beach to San Diego (1995-2001), From San Diego to Newport News (2001-present). San Diego was just too expensive. A lot to do there and miss it so much.
It's mainly what are you will to give up. There is not much crime in Norfolk like Baltimore. Panhandling, I never seen it there. That doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Property tax on very freaking thing. Yearly state inspections. There really truly not a thing here to do but eat.
I wouldn't transfer over here from Baltimore. If that is what your trying to do. I would do more research of other states. I just don't want anyone regretting moving here unless they lived in a small town with not a thing to do. I would definitely leave Baltimore because I know they are off the chain there.

I moved up to York County PA to get away from the crazyness of Baltimore but I still work in Baltimore and now days Baltimore is real bad. I saw numerous google street views of downtown Charlotte and downtown Charlotte is really nice. Much better then Baltimore and even Philadelphia. My parents plan to retire somewhere around Shenandoah and if that does occur then I may consider moving to Charlotte. But if not Ill stay in Pennsylvania. I dont want to move to Pittsburgh simply because no matter where I live I support the Baltimore Ravens fans and I know the Ravens primarily ridicule the Steelers fans. And we have plenty of Steelers fans in Baltimore. Hopefully the Panthers fans dont ridicule the Ravens fans highly. I may give Richmond a try. I heard crime used to be high there but it lately seems that its going down. And depending on how affordable it is where I live I may buy a retreat home in West Virginia.
Charlotte is really nice, but I am so done with the south you just don't know. I hope to go back west to either California or Arizona. My dream place is Alaska. That is probably be how it will remain. A DREAM.

I'm from New York and honestly New Yorkers are ten times nicer and down to earth compared to these people in Virginia. My husband and I moved from NY to this state three years ago, thinking this place would be a better quality of life. Boy was we wrong! This place is crawling with cops. My husband is Spanish and has gotten stopped by the cops several times for nothing , like the cops enjoy picking on certain types of folks. Traffic laws are so strict! It's hard to find jobs here and I have education and experience and still haven't found a job. Not much to do here, can't wait to get out!! We're moving to Sacramento soon! Thanks God, can't wait to move to Cali!

I agree 100 percent. I've thought about Texas. I'm gonna pass because everything is bigger in Texas. The bugs must be off the chain. I am scared of bugs. Only bugs I can tolerate are dragon flies, butterflies and those annoying flies. I lived in San Diego and the bugs weren't bag at all over there. San Diego is super expensive and going back there is just a dream.

@Nancy SM It all depends on where you live in California. San Diego is off the chain. You can find a few apartments that are expensive, but you have more bedrooms and a second bathroom. You will also have to look at It like this: we don't have California's weather and/or attractions so it will be cheaper to live here than over there. Please don't ever think about leaving California for over here. There is absolutely not a thing happening over here whatsoever. There is no culture here and people don't do a thing over here.

Even Amazon rejected me lol honestly I don't even know what's going on. Just seems like a bunch of bad luck ever since we stepped foot onto Virginias grass. I dont like it because to me its too big. The thing about newport news that falls flat is that its not big enough for the people who want to live the city life and not small enough for the people who want a small town kinda life. The rent and cost of living do not match the minimum wage, and you pretty much HAVE to live with roommate(s) to get by, unless you're college educated AND manage to find a job in your field. There are tons of jobs here, but the vast majority pay less than $10/hr. And the average rent is around $600 a month or higher, plus water, electric, and sanitation. The military bases here make up a large part of the population, so alot of people are here because they are forced to be here lol.

I've been to Richmond. It looks nice where all the big buildings are. I've seen a few bad areas in Richmond and I got out of those areas as fast as I got in them. There are bad places in every city. Stay away from them and everyone will be fine.

LOL I live just north of Detroit. If I described my city in a video, folks would be super suspicious I was trying to hide something. It's bad. Seriously bad. We used to go into the city for shows, baseball games, lots of stuff. Now, I mostly stay north of 8 Mile Rd. Best to you.
I know Detroit is off the chain. No one could sugar coat Detroit and make me want to go visit. I would believe a person word because that is what they are experiencing. I hope you are joking. There isn't a thing in Toano. How did you decide to move to Toano? Did you throw a dart at a map blindfolded? I wish I still lived in San Diego. I didn't know how good I had it until it was gone. If you have to work 3 jobs, you should do so. It will be like night and day. I think you should visit Toano before you make the biggest mistake of your life. Richmond is 40 miles away. Richmond isn't San Diego. Williamsburg is 17 or 20 miles away and it isn't San Diego. Unless you like nothing to do than Toano is the place for you. You can only go to nature parks so many times before you are done. Visit first. I can't stress that enough.

All of Hampton Roads is horrible. I guess I could have called it that but all of Hampton Roads suck. What I deal with in Newport News, I had it happen to me in VA Beach, Norfolk and Chesapeake. Not one is better than the other. I'm glad you like it here. To each it's own. If you ever in San Diego you will see how horrible this area is.

Florida to me seems horrible because of that "Stand Your Ground" Law there. It seems like if someone doesn't like you for some reason they can shoot you dead.
