    Great topic Mic.
    I read an article a while back that looked into the origins of this myth. After a little sleuthing, the author discovered that many of the articles that were written about the negative effects of soy, including the idea that soy gives men man boobs, were almost exclusively traced back and/or funded by the dairy industry.

    I am 57 yo male. I went full vegan two years ago and I put on more muscle and lost 8% body fat using the same training routine as when I was an omnivore. What make me laugh is that the decriers argue that phytoestrogens must equal estrogens. Using this logic antivirals sound the same as virals so antivirals must be bad for you. Meat & dairy eaters you have been conned by the meat and dairy industry marketing. Go veganism!!!

    Mic, does beef meat from dairy cows (female) contain mammalian estrogens? Thank you! :)

  • @heatherleisure
    @heatherleisure 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    The few phytoestrogens we have identified and have just begun to study have anti-estrogen properties; the body does not recognize them as true mammalian estrogen. Soy fearmongerers are no better than vegans.
    However, we know almost nothing else about phytoestrogens. That's just because we know relatively little about nutrients in general. Every once in a while, we are still discovering a new nutrient.
    And most people have never even heard of phytoandrogens, which actually do have some effects that mimic testosterone in the mammalian body - for better or worse. We don't know much about those either, nor have we even begun to identify them all.

    Soy milk effected me in this way, I caught it early on but I still got noticeable side effects. I do 100 push ups every day and my chest has been rock hard for years. But a few months ago I started putting soy milk in my coffee every morning for a few weeks, not changing my workout routine, if anything I increased it around this time because my chest was softer and didn't look as defined as before. I stop drinking soy milk and it goes back to normal. It just effects certain men differently maybe.

    • @TrunkMonkey3000

      This guy is full of shit, I take phytoestrogens for a few days and I start developing more feminine for sure, if I took a concentrated amount then I would definitely have a trans figure.
      However, soy milk doesn't have much phytoestrogen in it compared to what I was taking, only a small fraction of it. But this guy was saying phytoestrogens have no effect whatsoever and he is full of shit.

    • @Ace_of_Horns
      @Ace_of_Horns 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      TM3000 well he's getting his information off of studies done on a recorded amount of men who drink soy milk. But it doesn't account for unrecorded phytoestrogen intake by men. I can't remember the last time a researcher came up to me and asked how soy milk effects my body. So yeah a large percentage of men like u and me are left out in the study, specifically the ones phytoestrogen effects negatively.

    I was told to avoid soy because it will increase uric acid. I've tried looking up studies on this but have come up pretty much empty. In fact I found articles that debunk that claim. E.g. Can soy intake affect serum uric acid level?(Liu, Ho, Chen, & Woo, 2014). Am I missing something? Also - legumes and beans cause gout? (I'm vegan)

  • @NopainAllgain
    @NopainAllgain 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Phytoestrogens will avoid manboobs if the estrogen in the body is high or very potent due to its effect to bind to estrogen receptors, being 1000 times softer in that matter, Can you imagine what would do with athletes that use steroids?
    you are right, it would block estrogen receptors and allow the circulating high estrogenic hormones only to pass through.......very interesting dont you think?

    I used to drink a whole bunch of milk before going vegan, and I also ate a lot of chicken. I did this once I began working out, because I believed in high protein low carbs for building muscle and losing weight. I looked back to pictures of me a year before lifting, and I noticed an increase in chest size (not muscle). I've been vegan now for 4 months and I'm starting to work out again. I stopped after getting into a depression which I'm now happy to say am beginning to overcome. How long would it take before my chest returns to it's normal size?

I read somewhere there was a study linking this with pregnant women giving birth to baby boys with small penises?? this actually scared me enough to stop all soy consumption during my pregnancy with my son. I did not replace it with milk. but i guess i felt like i would feel responsible somehow if he ended up with a small penis... lol I probably just scared myself with all those pregnancy hormones.

    Consumption of dairy, meats, fish, poultry, lamb seems to make people irrational. My kitchen is basically out of commission and we've been eating out a lot but as a vegan, I've managed to keep meats and dairy out of my diet. You know what you see eating out? Loads of fat people and the fattest are often the women.
    All I can say is that people don't care what the truth is, so long as they were raised eating the Standard American Diet.
    But then there are those of us who break free of the mind control. Ah, freedom, what does it smell like? A lot less B.O. The Japanese during WWII thought they were superior due to their milder body odor. The body odor is caused by eating meats and dairy. No problem since going vegan with body odor.
    My husband does not want to research for himself and he's the one who got cancer. Hmm.

    You said “1.7 cups of soymilk per day, [is] a considerable amount of soy” but you then said that “if you take 12 cups of soy milk and compare it to soy beans, it’s less than a quarter of a cup of soybeans worth of phytoestrogens”. This former point seems to refute the latter one, which is the big gotcha point. Also, I think you avoided this topic in your response to the Game Changers critics; did you change your mind? Lots of us would like to be convinced to eat soy again so please respond or make a new video.

    I had a double gynecomastia procedure about three years ago age 37, at great cost, but by a well known American Dr at a top private hospital. I had this problem since I was 18. I was fully vegan for two years age 25-7 and then stopped, and used it on and off to lose gained Vegetarian weight. I never liked soya milk - but I am sure it is much better and more varied these days. I never bothered with soya or fake meat products. My surgeon told me it was a hormone imbalance probably from an increase in oestrogen. He thought it was from alcohol - which is often the case. I started drinking when I was 16 and this seemed to tally esp as I had nothing appear during puberty, but only after drinking regularly. I am writing this because the soya milk man boob thing is nonsense and I have never heard it before in all my research before the op. It is nonsense, and the thousands of non-vegan men who have this problem are living proof. It is also less prevalent in societies where alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

    I am new to veganism and it is very hard living with my parents while i finish college who eat a rather meat and junkfoood filled diet and relying on their financial support and cooking .We often have meat products for dinner and since thereisnt much else to eat ,I regrettably partake. After seeing all those provegan documentaries about animal cruelty,eco and health risks of meat consumption I have directed my self towards eliminating all the animal products from my diet but its hard to find suitable vegan replacements. After hearing about the soyboy phenomenon I was afraid that I would become fat or effeminate from it ( I ve struggled with weight since puberty), but since it obviously comes from an altright source I can discard any information regarding soy danger .Its still very confusing and scary because I EXCLUSIVELY eat soy as dairy replacements .

    • @bartjoboy
      @bartjoboy 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Replacing dairy with soy products should be fine. I do that as well mostly. For me, I normally take soy yoghurt or oatmeal with soy milk for breakfast and sometimes also a glass of soy milk during lunch. Sometimes with diner we also do something with tofu, so I normally have 2-3 servings of soy a day. Never experienced anything bad and feel great.
      As with anything though , a well-balanced diet is very important. Next to soy, you should obviously also eat lots of fruits, vegetables, legumes and whole grain cereals.

    You clearly have a bias about what you said about milk lowering testosterone and raising estrogen. Soy actually does lower testosterone and raise estrogen in extremely excessive amounts, like 54 cups of soy milk a day. Same thing with milk, you have to drink really excessive amounts.

    About the Men's Health guy and his manboobs: Your average soymilk from the drugstore has added sugar in it, let's say about 2 g/100 ml. If he didn't specifically seek out sugar-free soymilk, 12 cups or about 2.7 liters per day comes to 50+ g of added sugar per day, which is super unhealthy (in my area, the official recommendation is that you should consume a half of that, tops). Even if he drank healthy sugar-free version, the one I use has around 30 kcal/100 ml and that would add up to over 800 kcal per day if you drink 12 cups of it. If he didn't compensate for the extra calories by reducing his food intake, that's a huge increase to his daily energy intake and enough to make him gain some flab. So, I'd go for that sugar bomb or that sudden increased calorie consumption first if we're looking for a reason for his changed physique.

    And of course, being vegan doesn't mean eating soy three times per day. Some vegans are allergic to soy, and some vegans just prefer other foods.
    Implicit in the soy-is-bad narrative is that being vegan means eating soy every day, and it's therefore much healthier to not be vegan. It's entirely possible to be vegan and eat little or no soy.

I'm afraid of the man tiddies myth. It's like you convince me that its perfectly safe but then you tell me not to eat a lot of it every day.
