Sweet I do remember 8 years ago starting this restoration hobby I used a heat gun and acetone to prep for the clue removal and uh oh. Learned a lot since then and one thing is letting the glue sit on the fabric if exposed from the durabuck to then put another coat of glue down prior to reattaching to the midsole. So far so good after a years worth of wear and yes that mink oil is real good
Adding multiple layers of glue helps a lot!

Those tape lines came out super crispy, that vinyl tape works wonders! If you ever get the chance and run across the issue, you should make a video on how to resurface messed up midsoles that are really rough or porous before doing a repaint. I did my first full pair the other day and it came out decent with filler/sanding, but I'm sure you got plenty of tricks in your bag to make it extra clean looking.
is that red tape he uses just red electrical tape?
@@NonLegitNation2 It's called vinyl tape, I get mine from Angelus but I think you can get it other places as well. It's essentially the same thing, just sticks WAY better than electrical tape.

Got any tips for not discoloring Lightning 4s and just in general how I should go about cleaning them?
been loving your content, your 2001 royal restoration really helped me fix a pair of used royals. ive been in the restoration hobby for about 5-6 months, now but i must ask, is it worth buying an airbrush? i use paint brushes all the time, but im not sure if its worth it getting an airbrush. thanks in advance!
Glad I could help! It depends on your preference. There’s no right or wrong way to paint. I use the airbrush so I get my repaints like factory. It helps to lay down thin colors like purple. Purple takes me 10+ coats to get a solid color with a hand brush. By using an air brush, I’m able to do it in 4 smooth coats
@@johnandrew00 thanks. i have a pair of patent chicagos and everytime i repaint the uppers they crack, everywhere. do you recommend adhesion promoter? i acetone > paint > sealer, but that doesnt work. tips to get it for the paint not to crack? i also have a pair of really dirty laces, how long would i put it thru bleach and detergent?

Hey I’ve heard conflicting info on if mink oil can actually penetrate the paint and varnish that Nike and Jordan use to treat their leather with what do you think? I notice myself when using it on different shoes sometimes it won’t absorb the mink oil and other times it will but I don’t really understand why that is.

I assume you misspoke when saying these had Durabuck, right? Only the 89 White Cement 4s had Durabuck. The 99 has regular leather.

It’s a synthetic material. Durabuck can be both imitation leather and suede. Both the bred 4s and wc4s from 99 are made of durabuck
