You should have gone with coaxial for atmos. They are ideal for atmos due to their excellent disperson horizontal and vertically which helps connect the audio field for a bigger more seamless presentation
This video was very satisfyingly fun to watch!! I’d think the RBH heights look much better both functionally and visually! 🎉 def got lucky on placement!! 🎉
I am just using 5.1 speaker setup in my living room, with surround speakers installed a foot above my head on shelves either side of sofa and it sounds great, get things like sounds of rain coming down above my head, so don't need Atmos speakers
The problem I see is those Atmos aim more downwards instead of towards the MLP, unlike the bookshelf speakers you had mounted. You could have done the same with the new speakers. I have the SVS prime elevation for Atmos and made my own brackets so I could aim them to the MLP the same as you had the bookshelf speakers mounted. But in that small room they should sound ok aiming downwards.
@ Looks like it but can't know for sure. One thing is super sure, it's look tidy and amazing, but the old setup is better because the speaker is adjustable while the new one is not. I guess a compromise has to be made here. I have not installed my 4 height speakers, will see what should I do in the very near future. My ceiling is a cement slab, probably this method might not be so suitable. I'm still not sure.
It’s actually surprisingly quiet outside the room. The acoustic panels added a little extra sound dampening to contain the sound in the room. The exception is the room below the tiny theater. The sub is VERY loud in that room 😁. Fortunately we don’t spend much time in that room.
I liked the monolith speakers. I was surprised to get that level of performance from such a budget price. But I’m excited to get some real serious RBH speakers and hear the difference!
So can you do a sound check for me. So i have a Denon 4700x and when i set the atmos to ceiling the sound is ok but lacks overall bass but when i set the atmos to height front and back the overall sound is amplified with bass and everything. Could you do that test and maybe make a video with the results. Thanks
I like the RBH Mounting. How much do they weigh and what type of anchors? I would be weary mounting to ceiling drywall only without incorporating at least two screws in ceiling joists.
I would love to talk to you about atmos setups and I do have a question. First, my short story: I got some klipsch atmos speakers. They did not work out as up firing speakers because I only heard the sound coming straight from the speakers. No sound was bouncing back to me from the ceiling. I ended up doing front heights and I really liked them. I actually wanted to use them the same way as you did, but wife wouldn't go for this "black speaker hanging off the middle of the ceiling" look. After a few weeks I found some in ceiling speakers cheap online so I got them and installed them as top middle. I like it even more than the front height, and I must admit I can barely hear the front heights anymore. I mostly hear the top middle, but I am certain if I disconnected the front heights, I might feel like something is missing from the front soundstage. (Maybe, maybe not) The setup stays as is, but I have people arguing that this is not an approved / correct atmos setup, since it's not in the Dolby installation guide. Btw my living room won't allow me to pull the couch forward, so I am pretty much sitting at the back wall and because of this I can not do top rear or rear heights. This is the 1 thing I never see any youtubers talk about is the best setup for this scenario; sitting at the back wall. Would you agree the best setup in my case would be 5.1.4 using front heights and top middle? Also, what do you think about this approved Dolby setup question? I feel like you can do whatever you want as long as that configuration is selectable on the receiver. Then the avr will mix the sound the correct way. Doesn't matter if you ONLY use front heights and nothing else or as crazy as front heights+top middle or even top front and rear heights. I would appreciate it if you answered me! Love your channel!
Every room requires compromises. It sounds like you’ve got about the best setup you can do with your seating against the back wall. Fortunately it sounds like it’s working very well! I think you’re fine keeping it the way it is. As for the Dolby guidelines, those are good for setting a baseline of the ideal setup, then you make adjustments to fit within the constraints of your room. Which it sounds like that’s what you’ve done. Keep rocking the home theater and thanks for watching!
I really wonder how everything sounds in such a small room. I almost feel like you don't get enough separation between channels. Even if you do, it's probably fairly minimum. Not going to lie, I had my onkyo tx nr 7100 shut off a couple of times when I messed around with the cables, and they probably touched, so yeah. Unplug the avr. Also. You might want to drive a white nail or a screw behind the speakers so they can not slide off. Just 1 screw in them middle. It stops the speakers to back off the slide in brackets. These atmos speakers looks better than bookshelf speakers hanging off the ceiling for sure! Also why I have your attention.I have a question for you about atmos speakers. It will take a while to type it off so I will make another comment and I hope you can answer.
Very difficult to tell in the video for certain, but as a tradesman they 100% did not look like drywall anchors to me. If they're not you can almost guarantee your speakers will eventually fall down.
I’ll be watching them closely to check for any indication they are coming loose. I can always install larger anchors in the existing holes. But hopefully it doesn’t come to that 🤞
@GeorgeTheaterAtHome no worries, it just looked as if you just pushed the fixings in and that's not generally how drywall anchors work. Could be a type I'm unaware of though.
Those are meant for backs and sides not cealing because of the wiring position: why don’t you put the actual cealing speakers 🔊 those book shelf’s look too bulky and after a while while watching a movie could land on your head or floor because of weight 😢something to think about about ,I think. It’s too bulky for the cealing and what else you have behind you and in the cealing ??is that a front speaker on the cealing also ?😅
The RBH Height speakers are designed to be mounted on the ceiling. All the speakers are very secure so very small chance of them falling. Fortunately no speakers are directly overhead so even if one did fall it would hit only the floor.
@@GeorgeTheaterAtHome the way they make the wiring for the banana plugs it will stick out to far for a flat wall they dont make the groves so to lay the wiring fla ton the side wall if i put them there !! i have the klipsch rp-402s for sides and they have the same inlet for the banana plugs and i have to have it off the wall a little bit !! even if i dont use the plugs still need room for the wiring being pinched
Actual ceiling speakers are generally worse (in some cases, much worse) than using bookshelf speakers that you can aim. Also much easier to match your ear-level speakers that way too.
@@FURognar yeahh i have 4 in cealing speakers flat into cealing and they sound awsome rain falling helicopters flying over head with my marantz sr-6014 with a 2 channel amp for fronts never any better

The mounting system was designed for ceiling operation and they are very tight and will hold the speakers just fine. We did lots of testing and we feel very confident in the design. Cheers.

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. I'm very happy with the results!
Thanks for the Vesa monitor mount tip, going to use that for my rear speakers, so they "float" on the wall
Great, glad to help! Good luck with your project!
I just did in ceiling two days ago. One of my setups have the mounted atmos. Surprisingly enough my in ceiling atmos sound better
That’s interesting! What make/model are your in-ceiling speakers?

you're using drywall anchors for those speakers instead of screwing directly into a stud!? You are a bold man, my friend lol
I live on the edge 😁

If I had to place them further forward and further back, it may potentially be an issue. But yes, in the small room their angle is almost perfect.
Please update how the sound goes..
Loving this series! out of curiosity, how close to reference level do you usually watch films?
Glad to hear you’re enjoying the videos! I rarely get anywhere near Reference level. My ears are resistant to extremely loud sounds.
15:25 Looks pretty good, awesome! Now I wonder if you put a laser pointer at your sitting position, does the speaker really point at the right angle?
The eye test looks good. The speakers are pointed almost perfectly at the MLP

Great mounting system. Like a French cleat
pls make a video about Dirac Live bass control! :)
5:38 Here’s my thought. Doesn’t look like you’ll be able to point the speaker to your sitting position. Let’s see how you’re going to make this work.

I see you put screws in the Monoprice speakers, is that normal?
They are short screws. They didn’t penetrated into the speaker cavity.

Why not just cut the ceiling in the open space of the mount and use banna plugs? Seems simple..
The spring loaded speaker binding posts are almost as easy as banana plugs. And I always try to avoid cutting holes in the ceiling if at all possible

Vibration will slide the speaker off the bracket and u should of went into the stud or used better anchor’s, metal anchors
