Just FYI - we aren't even into flowers. We watch you because of how awesome you and your family are, and because your videos are comforting and inspiring! Thank you so much. You are making an impact in people's lives that you don't even know about.
I’m into flowers, but yes, her personality makes her videos great. And yes, seeing the family & friends chip in and help make Nicole’s dreams come true are nice to see.
I just got my order into Sunflower Steve Seed Co for their Lemon Drop and Van Gough/hat sale and 1,000 orders were in and they were out of stock in 42 minutes!!!!! I feel special! 😁
We had terrible deer pressure last year. They grazed on our beans, zinnias, dahlias, peppers, peanuts... my husband was willing to accept this to an extent, but it was the loss of the sunflowers that really infuriated him. We are putting up a deer fence this year, and I'm going to grow as many sunflowers as I can! They are such a joy :)
That's what pushed us ahead with the deer fence. I lost beans, peas and sunflowers and I knew if I was going to be a serious grower I needed to build a fence! Best of luck!
I'm in Alaska and Joker is my favorite, because it's branching and seems to tolerate our cool climate, I do start all my inside because we have such late spring to put in ground
Off topic....I "found" through some random ads Italian ranunculus.....they are amazing! more expensive but would expect that they will multiply during each year so will not need to purchase many more. I may have missed that you grow them? Can't believe a ranunculus could be even more beautiful than the ones I currently grow. Thanks for your inspiring content!
Oh I cannot wait to see all of these sunflowers! Sunflower Steve has a special bundle later this week and I’ll try to get that. Have fun Nicole! I love your enthusiasm!
I finally go my hands on some sunflower seeds that produce a small branching variety for containers that I can’t wait to try this year! I am a balcony gardener in a really hard zone (zone 3, high altitude in the mountains so intense sun and cold nights) so fingers crossed!
Hey I had same issue with Earthway seeder. I mixed my sunflower seeds with popcorn from my kitchen thinking it would space them better. guess what! all the pop corn grew in between the sun flowers. It was a fun accidental crop. Let me know if you find a better plate for sunnies
I have winter sowed sunflowers on April first. I got blooms in June. They were procuts and rouge royale sunflowers. I loved how they were protect because I have a chipmunk problem. I planted them out 2 weeks after being in Gatorade bottles, iced coffee cups and jugs and they were fine. I plan I winter sowing again this year and also plan on winter sowing in June and July for procut bicolor just put the jugs in a part shade area and then transplant out again after 10 days or 2 weeks. Hopes this helps
I LOVE MY SUNFLOWER PATCH , I only grow in a bed that’s about 4x30 ft. Along the back of my garage, BUT I succession plant them starting by direct sown, on Mothers Day to Memorial Day , Last year I grew about 750! I did have blue jay , squirrel and vole pressure but nothing I couldn’t replant ! I also planted a row of pro cut white night along with my Benarys Zinnias about 2-3” apart , they were absolutely adorable 😊 perfect for bouquets ! ❤
I swear by small pieces of chicken wire scattered on the grass near the garden. Move them every week- throw them to a new spot. Deer can’t see it and they freak out when they step on crunchy wire.
I’ve also heard of stringing fishing line around the garden about 3’ high. The dear don’t see it, but they feel it and it freaks them out. I don’t know if it works, but it’s worth a try.
I’m not sure how that works with kids and people working in the garden or playing in the yard. I’d like it if the line never approached having potential unknown negative effects downstream.
Hey Thanks Nicole, just saw this vid at 3:37 am lol and ran for my credit card. Picked up 2 originals tiers and used your code for the $10 off. 😘😘😘❤️❤️❤️👏👏👏🌻
I love your Hoosier! I have one too. My dad lives in Indiana and refinished it for me. I just had a random thought. I hope you keep up with your yearly doctor’s checkup. In all your busyness and success, it would be easy to put off. I had a surprise last year with a large tumor and removing my kidney, so I think about these things more, I guess.
Hi Nicole, i just finally joined. i have been watching you since last fall. You total have inspired me to grow flowers and sell market bouquets. Last year was my "trial run" , this year will be all in for real, i am in zone 5b Nebraska! You have taught me so much. I love watching you put bouquets together, it's funny , sometimes you put something in you bouquets, and i am yelling at you no put the other flower in, and you change it (i know you can't really hear me) anyway thanks for the inspiration and the humor you bring it reminds me to relax it will somehow work out.
Just bought MORE sunflower seeds from Sunflower Selections because of this video🤦♀️ Nicole, question...forgive me if I missed something. Rewatching older videos and came across one in your grow room and Blooper popped in. How is she? I miss seeing her. Only reason I ask is I just lost my 16 yo boxer mix. Blooper always made the video for me. No offense 😁 Also, I've grown Junior and it does really well and seemed to be a pretty early bloomer. 🌻💚
Hi there great video I too am in love with sunflowers I'm up in Edmonton Alberta Canada 1st year of flower farming (hopefully) I've got the seeds anyways or have ordered them... I just ordered from sunflower selections actually last week, wish I had seen this video 1st but one can always order more they keep I just checked the tracking on my order and wow are they fast it's already in Canada. I should be home it within a week which is amazing I ordered from Johnny seeds which have amazing seeds but took almost 3months to arrive I was beginning to think that they where lost. I have grown Junior sunflowers before and they are great. Happy growing
Yes! I had that issue with plums last year too. I’m growing them again also to see if there’s any difference. I want them to work, they’re so unique and beautiful in person.
These are all so wonderful! Heads up to folks, if you want to also help pollinators, sow sunflowers that are open pollinating--they have nectar AND pollen (like those Mammoth sunflowers). The bees will thank you!
Hi! Love your channel & enjoyed this video. Just FYI, I was able to get 75% of my sunflowers to survive when I started them inside 6 weeks before first frost and planted them out a full month before first frost. Bicolor didn't have a good vase life for me, kind of like you described w/ Plum.
I'm a retired florist, whom purchased flowers at the SF flower market. I am now retired, and learning how to grow sunflowers from you, in our 1 acre property. Glad to learn about the smaller, multi stem variety for my home! Do you fertilize your sunflowers?
I absolutely love sunflowers and grow loads of varieties of them! I'm in WI and started some indoors and planted them out mid April. I covered them if it got really cold. They did great and I was able to get 2 "harvests"
You are a wealth of info Nicole, and a joy to listen to, no matter what mic you use. I’m sooo interested in the earth way seeder! If you figure out a better plate size, please share! I’m designating 6-7 sixty foot beds ( 3 ft wide beds) to sunflowers this year and I’m thinking it would quickly pay for itself. Good luck in all your ventures friend, you are amazing!
Just ordered the Greenstalks. Thanks for the promo code! Great sale! Looks like an awesome sunflower selection!! Makes me want to grow some too. Interesting how the distance planted affects the size of the flower.
Good afternoon I need to know do you start your sunflower seeds indoors and how do you start a can you give me an answer cuz I would love to see some more sunflower seeds grow cuz this year I really want to start some sunflower seeds my son that's artistic he loves to color yellow
Love this! I didn't know about the Horizon and upward facing blooms! How did you store your sunflowers for the wedding last year in your cooler? I remember you saying something about having to re-cut the stems and change the water out after a certain amount of time. I can't find that specific video to watch it again. I want to grow ProCut Reds and try to store them for Thanksgiving.
Greenstalks are fantastic. I have 4 myself. The only suggestion is if super windy take them apart. I did have 2 of them fall destroying all my crops. Also found out dwarf tomato best varieties to use if growing food. The sunflowers will be stunning 😍 I grew the Astra Rose in 22. They were more white than pink, but birds, as well as bees, loved them.
I have the cheap dollar store variety, so maybe this wouldn’t work for the Greenstalk, but...my husband melted round holes in the middle of each section and then he hammered a long rebar in the ground and I stacked the sections over it. It held the whole stack up really well, and I live near Laura from Garden Answer, if you’ve seen the wind she gets! Unfortunately, our climate is so hot and arid and the wells where the dirt go are so small, it didn’t work, everything died. I hope this helps!
You got me excited to get planting my sunflowers. Thanks for all the inspiration . I got a new variety I can't wait to try out from Burpee called creme brulee. 🌻
I think I have that same one and found it works best further away. I ended up wearing it at the back of my sunhat this summer or on the band that goes around it to the side of my head. High up and back seems to be the sweet spot.
I feel like it sounded better outside and then got a little hollow inside. I'll have to try it again! It definitely cut out background noise which was my intention!
Hi! Zone 4 here also. You said you would start the sunflowers inside 10-14 days before planting out. So would that be before you are planting May 1st? So you are going to start some seeds week 16 inside? Do you do a lot inside?
Are you growing any with pollen if so what are your favorites as I grow sunflowers for the bees and it hurts my heart when they go to a sunflower and find it devoid of food
Seed is too big for the small blockers. The two inch blockers are a bit of a waste since they get planted out in less than two weeks. 128 plug trays work best for me. Less soil!
Just FYI - we aren't even into flowers. We watch you because of how awesome you and your family are, and because your videos are comforting and inspiring! Thank you so much.

The microphone is fine in my humble opinion. I’m so excited about starting seeds!!!
I wish I lived near you!!!
Excellent - love the snow! Thank you for sharing :)
I just got my order into Sunflower Steve Seed Co for their Lemon Drop and Van Gough/hat sale and 1,000 orders were in and they were out of stock in 42 minutes!!!!! I feel special! 😁
Just thought I'd brag.

@@FlowerHillFarm Thanks! Best of luck to you too!
Sunflowers make you SMILE!!!😁
I like the Hoosier.
Thank you! It was the first piece of furniture I purchased from a friend who was getting rid of it when we moved in.
I'm in Alaska and Joker is my favorite, because it's branching and seems to tolerate our cool climate, I do start all my inside because we have such late spring to put in ground

Your blue hat matches your beautiful blue eyes!!
Johnny's sells Earthway optional seed plates, it includes a customizable blank plate. If you have the new Johnny's catalog it's on page 186. 🌻 🌻 🌻
Love your video, entertaining but informative......keep them coming....Blessings !!
Oh I cannot wait to see all of these sunflowers! Sunflower Steve has a special bundle later this week and I’ll try to get that. Have fun Nicole! I love your enthusiasm!
WOW, THAT 'S A LOT OF SUNFLOWERS. I KNOW THEY WILL BE BEAUTIFUL YOURS ALWAYS ARE. LOVED THE VIDEO. THANKS!!!
I finally go my hands on some sunflower seeds that produce a small branching variety for containers that I can’t wait to try this year! I am a balcony gardener in a really hard zone (zone 3, high altitude in the mountains so intense sun and cold nights) so fingers crossed!
I got some new varieties of sunflowers they're whitish creamy with a red middle they are beautiful cant wait to grow them
I, TOO, am COMPLETELY obsessed with the Gold Lite. I can't get enough!!!!!!!
Firecracker is my favorite

❤❤❤
So excited to see all these beautiful flowers! 💐🌻
Lisa M Z...said last year they had better luck with Marley which is a bicolor that doesn't drop its petals as quickly as most other bicolors.
Gold Lite DMR were my fave last year and I have 10K for this year Pick Your Own area😍

I don't blame you! I want to grow them all also! I finally slimmed it down to one of each color (& one of each with dark & light center) 😄
WOWZERS! That is a lot of sunflowers! Exciting stuff!
Hey Nicole.. Audio was fine
Hey Thanks Nicole, just saw this vid at 3:37 am lol and ran for my credit card. Picked up 2 originals tiers and used your code for the $10 off. 😘😘😘❤️❤️❤️👏👏👏🌻
Try Hoss tools and seeds they have different sized discs for your seeder
Sunflowers! Maybe I have to order some more???
It’s so exciting seeing your seed packets and anticipating the sunflowers to come on a cold day in January!
I can’t wait to come visit the nursery this summer!! Fellow norther New Yorker too! Except I’m on the border to Canada not too far away 🤪🤩
I love your Hoosier! I have one too. My dad lives in Indiana and refinished it for me.

Gift certificates: You number them and have a book to keep track? What a fantastic idea!
Yes! I write down the name associated with the purchase, the number and the amount.

Love it when you share your seed sources. I would like to get some of the shorter landscape varieties too. Thanks 😊
I found sunflower selections a couple years ago and they are awesome.😊
Great selection! I think Daniele from Northlawn Flower Farm is a big fan of the Teddy sunflower to use as cut flowers. They look very nice.

So excited to see them grow.

i dont like to pre grow sunflowers in plug trays. but if it works for you then that is amazing.
Can’t wait to hear what you think of the new varieties you are trying!!!
Also..I have the same opinion on the plum pro cut. Going to try Vincent’s choice this year along with my. Usual procut order

You sound great!
Thank you so much!
So excited for allllll the sunflowers! Your new mic does sound like we’re on a zoom call (if that were IRL that would be amazing)!
I’ve read that it is recommended to use the corn plate for the seeder. Is that what Serina and Ian use? I wonder what the size difference would be…
I also use the corn one. I think I might add a little something to it to make the hole smaller!
I couldn't get Sunflower Steve , do you have some for me?
I wasn’t impressed with the earthway seeder for sunflowers either! Glad it wasn’t just me lol
Do you have a discount code for Sunflower Selections? 🌻

@@FlowerHillFarm ikr I was outside in 40km winds and you'd never know it. 👍🏻
How do the bees react to the pro cuts?
Edit guess I need to watch until the end.
I like sunflowers, but I can't help it, I prefer rudbeckia, that's one of my favorite flowers
Love those too!
Soo zone 4b here. You recommend direct sowing sunflowers or staying inside? Or both
How do we get on Sunflower Steve's waiting list for Sunflower seeds?
Can you give us an update on the ordered glad’s? Just remind us not to panic about our orders.
(I think …I have now accidentally ordered 2 times.)
Hi! Zone 4 here also. You said you would start the sunflowers inside 10-14 days before planting out. So would that be before you are planting May 1st? So you are going to start some seeds week 16 inside? Do you do a lot inside?
Don't really mind the sound
Hey Nicole, what happened to the Røde microphone you used to use? Did you not like it for some reason? I thought the sound quality was good.
I grew about 12 sunflowers in our community garden. One was huge about 12 inches but all the seeds stayed white.. any clue?
Are you growing any with pollen if so what are your favorites as I grow sunflowers for the bees and it hurts my heart when they go to a sunflower and find it devoid of food
She talks about those in the video :-)
Do you know how much you spend on cut flower seeds or all seeds in general? I am struggling to figure out a good amount to budget
Has the gladiolus order closed? I never got the email 😔
So no soil blocking for sunflowers? Just plug trays???
Seed is too big for the small blockers. The two inch blockers are a bit of a waste since they get planted out in less than two weeks. 128 plug trays work best for me. Less soil!
Mam, is that a Hoosier behind you!?!!?
Nicole am I now in the Train SO I can't relax with you 💮🌷🌷🌲
Isn’t week 13 actually the end of March?
It's Week 18-30. (13 weeks total)
Hello and welcome to back and how are you ✌💪💏💏💏⚘🌲🌷🌼🌸🌵🌵💚🐆🐎🌺🤔🤗😚👒🎩🎓Nicole So Super much more
Just tried to order greenstalks using your code. Says it has been disabled and not usable. Just FYI.
Thanks! It's working for others- I'm not sure what's going on!
Problem fixed!
@@FlowerHillFarm it worked after you posted "fixed". Thanks!
I accidentally found this solution in my parish rose garden when I left it on the lawn but then moved it for the lawn guy.
Don’t know how you do it! You’re such an upper to watch.
Just a suggestion.. Why not plant outside your deer fence for the deers and other animals to eat instead of eating your crops 😊😉
Nicole i think it is your hair, not the microphone. Maybe clip it to your hat instead?
