  • Sitar Maestro Ustad Shahid Parvez plays a drut teetaal composition in the morning Raag Gujri Todi based on a vocal bandish composed by Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan. It requires a true maestro to play such a fast-paced composition without compromising the clarity and volume of each note. The taans and the subsequent jhala fully express and extend the intensity of emotion captured in the composition and the raag. Shri. Hindole Majumdar provides tabla accompaniment.
This is an excerpt from a virtual performance at the Saptak festival during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Wah Ustad Shahid Parvez Sahib wah!! You have set standards of presentation, tayyari, layekari, and clarity, together with artistic sincerity, which others will do well to follow and emulate. I have also known you personally to be the most sincere and dedicated teacher, willing to share the techniques of your craft with learners who have come knocking at your door. You have rolled out pearls and gems for hundreds of your pupils to pick up and treasure. You have also taught and inspired many good Tablists towards better sangat who have had the good fortune to accompany you on your concerts. May you have a very long life and always stay at the forefront of your Art to inspire all music lovers.
