I looked at other footage of this game before getting into it and it’s safe to say I was deceived by something that seemed pretty straight forward and easy.. because this game is HARD! Some of the other footage I saw are clearly recorded through inaccurate emulation with timing issues which sometimes ends up with your car having a severe speed enhancement over your opponents. This isn’t the first game I noticed it with. Nonetheless, safe to say that the vehicle speeds handle themselves correctly in this video. What’s particularly annoying about this game is that the difficulty of each track gets adjusted towards your previous performance. You can select easy difficulty in the menu, but if you play good enough you’ll be on expert difficulty right after. You can literally check this by opening up the start menu mid-race and checking the options for yourself. The physics in this game are brutal and even the time limit often doesn’t allow you to beat the stage despite trying your hardest. There’s a few tracks that were cut short due to the time limit cutting me off, but I figured it’s no issue considering each track is repeated 4 times anyway. That’s right. The main circuit is just the same 6 tracks repeated 4 times in random order. There’s also a bonus track that’s unlocked through a very weird sequence of cheats. I read something about this port being rumored to not feature this bonus track but it does Turning on deaths in this game felt like an absolute MUST. The only way I could find myself winning is by hoping the CPU’s kill themselves through the games insane physics, otherwise you quite simply are almost never going to place first. All in all, I didn’t like this racer as much as I was hoping for lol
I remember when my cousin couldnt drive in the game so he kept using the reset button but which only causes your car to blow up first then jump forward a bit. Fun times, also my first rush game as a kid i remember just the crazy arcade vibe it gave only to find rush 2049 in the arcades at the time. Rush was a household name, sucks it never made the jump to other consoles, i always felt like it was outclassed by cruisin games
I still have this game and its great but every now and then i get a headache playing this and need to sleep to get rid of it. So i play this game in small sessions and it helps.
Sounds like a migraine triggered by the fast movements on the screen. I get migraine when i see flickering lights and in some games flickering graphics. I also have to sleep to get rid of it.
I had this game as a kid along with a copy of Fighters Destiny both from Blockbuster. I think it was safe to say, Fighters Destiny was a lot more fun than this.
