    Video just saved me from buying a new vacuum! I had so much hair jammed up around the spindle housing that it seized the whole assembly. Had to break it down to the motor to get them out and clean the debris. At least this video showed me that they can come off. Working good as new now.

    Wow ... just a great video. Simple, informative, no frills. Very educational. I removed my brush bars earlier to find all that junk compacted. Didn't know about the Torx screws inside the spindles, though. Was wondering how I could clean underneath the spindles. Now I know. Thank you!

    Dyson sent me a new cleaning head under warranty a little over a year ago & the same thing has happened again. I wish I had found this video earlier. I am still under warranty but I doubt they will send me another one. Cleaned it all out & the cat hair had compressed into a hard disc. Still only picking up on half the brush.

    Hey - do you think you could make a video on dis-assembling the entire power brush motor housing and re-assembly - I took my DC 41 (UP13) completely apart to clean each piece - then got distracted due to a water problem in the house that took 2 weeks to fix... when I got back to the Dyson - my dog knock everything on my work bench to the floor - I had to crawl around to fine every screw and plastic part - I kinda put the housing of the motor however i am confused as to what screws are which and Dyson does not have a chart, and no video on putting this Dyson together from piece by piece - I have two assembly problems, the Power Brush hosing with motor and the Ball unit I could use a video on how to put that power brush unit together, then the ball unit from the piece by piece - Help !!!!

    DON'T FORGET!!!!! Clean the bearings on the end of the bars...where that black bracket that fastens to the vacuum head - hair gets in there and causes massive friction and slow down. Mine was melted by the time I got to it. I know it doesn't look like stuff will get in there, but do it. The centre screw on the outside of the bar detatches it from the bearing. It's worth it to go in there and clean it out. Believe me...mine MELTED....

    This is really horrible design. This will be my first and last Dyson. Glad I got refurb. I'm lucky that only the smaller side snapped. I cleaned visible hair but never thought to completely disassemble to this extent. Madness.
    Edit: I was able to fix mine for now. The little plastic nub that breaks off from the motor can be screwed into place if you have a screw that's small and long enough to secure it deeply through the brush cap/spindle as well. We'll see if this holds up or if I have opposing forces in there that will bung it all up. If this doesn't work will bust out the drill and connect both ends of brush together with one bolt-through assembly.

    I own a dc-77 currently. Dyson has excellent customer service and has no Problems sending replacement parts when emailed with description and phot etc. This dual bar design is illogical and obviously a common failure point when the spindles break. For a 500$ vacuum, this is unacceptable. I’ve owned 3-4 Dyson vacs and I think this is the only one that’s had a dual beater brush design. It’s a great vacuum with terrific suction however another major design flaw is the air intake port leading from the power head to the vacuum body is VERY EASILY clogged. My German Shepard used to love shredding boxes and YES we’d pick up the pieces but even small slivers mixed with bit of hair etc (even pieces size of a dime or nickel) and clearing the path is a PIA because the clogged intake area is right behind where the two brush bars meet under the motor spindle cover.

      They can build the part (spindle belt driven gear) with a more durable materials but instead they choose to make it from cheap plastic so that it will break after a couple of years and you have to buy a new vacuum.

This comes 2 months after your question, so you've probably resolved this, but thought someone coming after us might have the same question. Exactly. This happened to ours even with routine maintenance. You pay $400+ for a vacuum, then Dyson expects you to pay $100 for replacement parts every year or two. Poor design and Dyson laughs all the way to the bank. There’s a reason Consumer Reports no longer recommends Dyson.

    • @michelle-jn7ul
      @michelle-jn7ul 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Try popping the black ends off the beater bar and cleaning there too. Those should spin freely but the little bearing in the end gets stuck form gunk. Little wd40 probably wouldn't hurt once you get it cleaned and spinning nicely. TBH that's probably the reason the little triangle thing broke on the unit in the video and not the hair/dirt on the inside end. The outside end will be the one to freeze it up.
