- After three and a half years of closure in order to restore the marine ecosystem, Maya Bay in Krabi is once again open to tourists. The bay falls under the supervision of Hat Noppharat Thara-Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park.
From Jan 1, Maya Bay has started welcoming visitors from 10am to 4pm. The number of tourists is limited to 375 per round and the one-hour tour must be booked in advance.
The reopening of Maya Bay comes with certain rules and regulations. Visitors are required to get off at Loh Sama (Sama Bay) at the back of the island and walk five minutes on a wooden trail to Maya Bay. They are only allowed to walk around the area and take photographs and are not allowed to enter the water.

The walkway from the back of the bay is perfect. I think it was built lately. In the past, we got off the boat right in front of the bay and it was crowded like a fisherman village. Now it is a real paradise. Well done Thailand. Cheers!

@@whatsaname4347 I know. Very few tourists now everywhere. Including xpats. So less tourists at Maya Bay. Better for environment, thanks to covid. Was at PhiPhi about a week ago for 10 days, at Koh Tao now for 8. In Thailand for 3 months. Very nice and peaceful:)
@@ridemfast7625 would you like to also thank covid for the lack of economy it brought to Phi Phi. The place is almost like a ghost town. Hotels shut down, stores closed. It's good for us to travel, but never thank covid for anything.

Ever since I watched the leonardo di caprio movie “the beach” I always wanted to see this paradise!!! Last week I visited maya bay and it literally changed my life… I was lucky enough that the island is now re opened
True but what's sad is the movie is what led to it being closed for a while. It was swamped with tourists and fans of the movie. It's nice that the place has been cleaned up and preserved for future generations.

18 years ago I have visited to Phi Phi Island and Maya beach and left there a few day before tsunami , it was my luck but sad for some people suffering from that disaster. l hope the beautiful nature and places are back now :) ...Maya beach is really beautiful and at the Phi Phi island don't forget to uphill to see a pair of beautiful bench beaches.

Greetings from New Zealand. I agree that Phi Phi Leh Island is one of the most beautiful place on earth. Visited there in 2004 before tsunami from Kuala Lumpur landed in Phuket. I'm Indonesian and living in Malaysia at that time, enjoying Air Asia incredible route around Asia. Phi Phi Leh (small Phi Phi) has white-sandy beach, crystal clear water, snorkeling with fishes, delicious and halal food (restaurants are only in Phi Phi Don at that time), friendly people of Thai, not so hot weather, lots of shaded areas on the beach etc etc. Maya bay was where Leonardo DiCaprio shoot for his movie "the Beach". Very sad when it was hit by tsunami, but Alhamdulillah now it has recovered and looks even better! Just wondering why nobody swim in the video. In 2004 there's less crowd and people enjoy swimming, laying down immersing ourself in shallow calm water, that's the best part of going to the beach, isn't it?? I understand that when I was there Maya bay doesn't have many fishes to swim with, for snorkeling we did it on the other side of the island. Been to Bangkok in 2008 and Krabi in 2011, also truly amazing holiday. Thanks for the video, brings back my memory of this beautiful and calm place.
No swimming because the sunblock cream snd oil polluted the ocean, the corals and sea creatures. So after much consideration we think tourism is not worth the environmental reservation. We need to balance both.

I am glad to see Maya Bay finally reopened - it is a beautiful island but I hope it doesn't get overcrowded again like when I went there on a few occasions before they have shut it off completely. Fingers crossed that they will control this

The water is so clear that it is emerald green like a crystal swimming pool. As for the sand, it's white sandbeach with a very fine detail.
Had Nui Beach, good beach snorkeling, all to myself and Thai wife last week via a kayak. The only upside to covid, very few tourists. Also, you forgot to mention the new 400bht Maya Park Fee.
Went there on January 2nd at 7:00am. There were only 10 of us in the bay. Nice boats can’t go in. You get off you boat on other side of island and walk on a boardwalk. Beautiful and pristine bay. White sand and clear water which you can wade in but park rangers won’t let you swim.

The place is summer all year round, sunny all day and every day, the morning sunrise is beautiful, evening sunset, the sea view is very beautiful.

Very beautiful! Thank you very much for the video! I have been to this beach twice, in 2012 and 2014. Now everything is different, there are no boats in the bay, and they built a pier with a ladder on the other side of the island. It looks unusual. But convenient. Well thought out!
