Do we have free will? Do any of our choices matter? Do we even make choices?

    • @patmos7985
      @patmos7985  ปีที่แล้ว +1

It depends on what you mean by free. If you mean totally free from God, then no. If what you mean though is something like having a will, so not being like a planet set in mechanistic motion around the sun, never to deviate, then yes, we are free in this sense.
What you're asking fundamentally has a lot to do with causation. When God causes things is He immediately causing me to say, swing my arm? Or am I swinging my arm? From what I can gather God causes things in two ways. There is what is called mechanistic causation, think of God causing miracles. And there is teleological causation, or "purposing." Ultimately God causes all things, but He does not cause all things in the same way.
For instance, does God tempt? No, the Bible says He does not. But does He lead into temptation, yes, according to the Lord's prayer. So while God does not Himself immediately cause temptation, He does on the other hand plan for it to occur through secondary agents. A good example of this is Jesus being led into the wilderness, by the Spirit, to be tempted by Satan.
Whereas on the other hand, does God immediately cause the Red Sea to split in two during the Moses narrative. Yes, that was something God directly and immediately caused.
So is man free from some of God's mechanistic causes? Yes, because God does not perform immediately all the time, otherwise everything would be a miracle. Man has a free will in the sense that he has a will and can make choices, unlike a planet in orbit. But is man free from God's teleogical causes, His purposing? No, nothing is free of this. God has eternally understood and decreed all that will come to pass.

@@patmos7985 When you say he has decreed all that came to pass. You mean every minute detail, down to what we eat for breakfast and such?

@@patmos7985 This is soul crushing information. I have gone back and forth on determinism and free will. I guess when I say free will, I mean to say that I'm actually making some choices for myself. I thought some things would be predestined for me, divine encounters, and such.
I know God is righteous. I believe in Him, and Jesus Christ.
I heard about an experiment and they said people reacted unconsciously by electrons in their brain before they consciously made decisions. So it seems that empirically it's proven also.
Every 6 months or so I have tk wrestle with this topic again and it really harms my spirit. Thanks for replying.

    • @patmos7985
      @patmos7985  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do mean every detail.
I personally don't put too much faith into empiricism. For more information there you should check out Gordon H. Clark and his refutation of a lot of modern as well as ancient epistemological perspectives.
One of the big challenges with determinism is often formed as, well if God causes everything, then how is He not responsible for Sin. How is He not sinful in causing sin. The answer is actually pretty simple. Where there is no law there is no sin (Rom. 5:13). And because there is no law stating that God cannot be the ultimate cause of sin, then God remains sinless. Again, He does not cause sin mechanistically or immediately, but He certainly decrees it all and brings about sin via secondary causes through His purposing.
Now why God causes sin is a whole other topic. But I take comfort in knowing that God works all things together for the good of those who love Him. Joseph's story is a good example of this.
Also, it is important to recognize what the alternative here is. Mainly, if God does not ultimately decree sin, then sin is something without rhyme or reason. That to me seems worse than stating that God decrees and has a purpose in all of our suffering for the good of those who love Him.

    Who were the two witnesses?
    Two Olive Trees -
    Law(Jesus) and the Prophets(Us)
    Zechariah 4:11-14 (KJV)
Then answered I, and said unto him, What are these two olive trees upon the right side of the candlestick and upon the left side thereof?
And I answered again, and said unto him, What be these two olive branches which through the two golden pipes empty the golden oil out of themselves?
And he answered me and said, Knowest thou not what these be? And I said, No, my lord.
Then said he, These are the two anointed ones, that stand by the Lord of the whole earth.
    Revelation 11:3-4 (KJV)
And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth.
These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth.
    Revelation 1:5-6 (KJV)
    And from Jesus Christ,
    who is the faithful witness,
and the first begotten of the dead,
and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,
And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
    Luke 24:48 (KJV)
And ye are witnesses of these things.
    1 Thessalonians 2:10-12 (KJV)
Ye are witnesses, and God also, how holily and justly and unblameably we behaved ourselves among you that believe:
As ye know how we exhorted and comforted and charged every one of you, as a father doth his children,
That ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory.

@@patmos7985 the main point was that Moses turned water into blood at the Nile. And Elijah let it rain for 3,5 years. That was convincing enough for me. Plus they were with Jesus at the mount of transfiguration. But then again I think you made a very good case.

  • @wannatrade
    @wannatrade ปีที่แล้ว +2

The view that Smyrna and Philadelphia are the two witnesses is the view of Sir Isaac Newton and I tend to believe that it is correct. Another view is that the Bible itself is the two witnesses because it contains the prophetic testimonies of two nations, both in the Old Testament and the New.
In the Old Testament, the prophets came from two kingdoms: Judah and Israel.
This continued into the New Testament as Judea and Galilee. The Bible is thus a library or collection of books from two prophetic houses or kingdoms.

In Rev. 1:20 Jesus said the word "candlesticks" is a symbol of the "churches" in the Book of Revelation. In Romans chapter 11 Paul uses the two olive trees as a symbol of the New Covenant Church made up of both Jews and Gentiles grafted into the same olive tree. Is the verse below talking about two men made of wood and metal, or is it talking about what Jesus and Paul said?
Rev 11:4 These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth.

At this time, we're gathering together to confirm that the 2 witnesses could be the Apostle John and Daniel.
Their mission overlap as both represent the Church, and Israel, respectively.
Revelation 1:1-2, equally applies to both of them- Daniel was referred to as "Greatly beloved " 10:111, 19, as well as John referred to himself as "the desciple whom Jesus loved " John 21:7; 13:23; 20:2.
They both received direct Revelation from the risen Jesus Christ. John 16:25; Daniel 8:17; 20:1, 8-9; Revelation 1:17 (Daniel chapters 8-12. (Daniel chapter 10=Revelation 1, Jesus Christ came to give them the vision, from the Father).
Revelation 10:11, signified the end of all written prophecies, and now they must be orally proclaimed, which continues into chapter 11, about the mission of the two witnesses.
Daniel once "rested" until the manifestation and completion of the prophecy which he couldn't understand- about the suffering and killed Messiah. John was called up in Revelation 4, and I believe the same goes for Daniel, called up from his rest.
Thus, it's highly probable that they both were the ones prophesying for 1,260 days- for both the remnants of Israel and the left behind Christians, and as witnesses to the whole world as the "mystery of iniquity" is being concluded Revelation 11:2, and the world system is being prepared for final judgement.
They had to due, to fulfill the word that says "it is appointed to man, once to die, and then judgment ". They died, but according to 1 Corinthians 15:51-58; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; death's sting had no effect on them, and the grave couldn't be victorious over them!
They were finally called back up, and they ascended into heaven Revelation 11:7-12, to be in the presence of the Lord
as "The Two Anointed Ones, that stand by the Lord of the whole earth " - The two Candlesticks and two Olive Trees!!!
    ZECHARIAH 4:11- REVELATION 11:4!
    Fulfilling Zechariah 4:14!
Let the Lord shed light on His mystery in Jesus name!

The beginning of sin, the mystery of iniquity began in the garden of Eden, Genesis 4:8-15-24, and was judged in Jesus, in the garden of Gethsemane. (Actually it began with Lucifer, but since he would never receive forgiveness, God began to impute His righteosness as soon as man sinned, and made a way out for him by the blood of the sinless Lamb slain before the foundation of the world, but that lives, sitted on the throne of God in the heavenly places. Ezekiel 28:16, and promptly judged verses 17-19, John 16:11, while man got a 1000 years deferred punishment, which was paid for by the sinless blood of Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, and the complete man, on the cross of Calvary. )
This sin couldn't readily be judged simply because there was no preceding law about being one's brother's keeper that was broken. (Thus, the whole system was destroyed by the flood, and the laws started with that Genesis 9:5-6, until finally judged and finished on the cross John 19:30)
In verse 15, a precedent was laid down for the time it would take to judge sin, 70x7 or 490 years.
That generation was wiped out by the flood, but the precept remained: sin shall be avenged seventy and seven fold. (Matthew 18:21-23).
This was the standard by which Israel also judged, as they also had to spend 70 sabbath years ( or 70x7= 490 years), in exile, outside of the promised land.
When it was the 69th week year Daniel prayed to God, and fasted to remind Him of the imminent due date of the return of God's people to their promised land; but the sin of the Amorite was not yet full, Genesis 15:16, also, Israel was still in rebellion towards God, and the land cannot sustain rebellion- it was Holy!
So, the Messiah had to come and make a way for grace and justification, and righteousness of God to be imputed, so Israel can get back their monarchy, through the house of David, and back to the kingdom of God, by grace through faith in Christ Jesus, as the Son of God, and the Son of man -the promised Son of David, the king of Israel to order His Kingdom Isaiah 9:6; who would ascend His throne as God had promised him. Romans 1:3; Acts 2:30, and come to bring them back to God, Jeremiah 16:16a; Luke 19:10; Matthew 10:5. Instead, they rejected and killed Him.
Thus, from then onwards, the way to God was opened to whosoever would come to Him by grace through the shedding of His blood, by grace through faith in His sacrificial death, burial and resurrection.
They were given the adoption of sons and daughters into the kingdom, which hitherto, they were not permitted Ephesians 2:13; John 1:11-14, becoming heirs and joint heirs of God and the Abrahamic covenanted promises an blessing (Genesis 25:6- the representatives of his other children by Hagar and Keturah, the Kings of the East, could now access and partake of the blessing, and they showed their allegiance and faith, by worshipping Jesus Christ, as a Child!)
Jesus Christ gave His life for all who would simply believe in Him as Lord and Savior, in order to keep them from the wrath of God that will be unleashed upon the Amorite, until the end. Isaiah 63:18; Daniel 8:13; Zechariah 12:3; Luke 21:24; Revelation 11:2.
And eventually, they will be rescued at the second coming of Christ Luke 21:13; Zechariah 14.
He finished the work of salvation of the soul of man John 19:30 and this continues the "acceptable year of the Lord" which began as He took the sealed book of Daniel, 12:4, from God, as the Lamb of God, who alone is Worthy, and opened the seals Revelation 5, and fulfilled the first of the three part of Isaiah 61:2, in Luke 4:16-21, and He SHUT it again. This will run through this dispensation of preaching of the gospel of grace, (which ended the preaching of the gospel of the kingdom, which ended with the stoning of Stephen) by faith in the sacrificial death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and He will return to gather His saints from the world, 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; 1 Corinthians 15; and present them faultless before the presence of God the Father, with exceeding joy, Jude 24; with victory over sin, devil, death, hell and eternal damnation in the lake of fire and brimstone Isaiah 66:24.
The second dispensation is nearly upon us, at this time Isaiah 63:4, which will usher in the tribulation period when the 70th and last year will be ushered in to finish all transgressions! Daniel 9:24.
( As the Messiah has become the sacrifice for sin, and was dead, buried and rose again from the dead! His shed blood sprinkled on the heavenly mercy seat for propitiation for sins for all who would go to God by and through Him, simply by faith! Ephesians 2:8).
Then, the Lord will return the second time, complete with His body, as a new Creature resting upon the Mount of Olives Zechariah 14, to make a way of escape for the remnants of Israel Matthew 24:31.
Then the battle of armageddon will ensue, and it will end up in total obliteration of this earth. Isaiah 24; Joel chapters 2 and 3, Jeremiah chapters 1-11...; 1 Peter 3 etc.
This is the fullness and end, and judgment of the sin of the Amorite! Matthew 18:21-22; Psalm 75:8; 73:3-17.
Then the new heaven and earth will be created after the conclusion of the millennium- to mark the expiration date of sin and death, like it was back in Eden. Now man will live out the 1000 year curse of death Isaiah 65, (Genesis 5).
Then history will repeat itself when everything reaches full circle- the serpent will be released once again, Revelation 20:1-6, to tempt man as he did with Adam and Eve, those who follow him will get totally judged and cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, together with hell, death, the antichrist, false prophets and all whose portion is with them Isaiah 66:24. Revelation chapters 19-22.
God has perfected the end from the beginning. But as it is written-"My people are destroyed for lack of Knowledge " Hosea 4:6, so, "With all thine getting, get understanding " Proverbs 4:7; Luke 24:45. Be filled with and led by the Holy Spirit, and abide in the fold, John 10, until He returns as promised, to take up His purchased possession! John 14:26; Ephesians chapters 1-2!
Then He will set up His kingdom! Isaiah 9:6!
    Be encouraged!

@@whitemagedende3591 I know what to be true. Dude you're super confusing. I am not sure what you're getting at. You seem to be suggesting in your first statement that men can only die once. But that's obviously not true because many other people have been resurrected and died again.
If what you are getting at is that all people must die, and so Elijah and Enoch must return to die, then what about those who are changed and raptured away while being alive. Clearly, they don't die, right? So not all people must die.

Can you have a driving license and not be able to describe it?
So are the two witnesses: they are able to describe God's seal.
And 144k are able to describe God's seal too.
They are the only ones redeemed.
    Revelation 5:9 KJV - And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;
Revelation 14:3 KJV - And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth.
Revelation 14:4 KJV - These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb.
All glory to Lord God Almighty and Jesus Christ my savior, blessed be his NAME forever and ever.
