Here in the U.S. South. First, we always have a potluck for funerals. Rice and potatoes are something we do every single week in the instant pot. Wait for Black Friday. You can get them cheap then. I have two. Yes it has a rice button. 8 minutes. My son loves his pressure cooker he is 21 and works full time as a train conductor. So if he can use one anyone can lol. Love this episode.
Thank so much for your comment. You don't see potluck funerals very often here unless it's held in someone's back yard, like we did for my aunt. It was very fitting as she was a great cook! There was lots of pie, which I know she would approve of. Thanks for the tips about the instant pot. I will wait for Black Friday. I have borrowed Sharla's for the last week and half and used it many times for many things. I think I'm sold on it!
Sometimes in my Shepherd's Pie, I substitute the creamed corn with a mixture of peas and cooked diced carrots, or all three. Delicious either way. I always enjoy your videos.
From a single person who owns three slow cookers and an instant pot, do it, Christy! The Instant Pot is so nice for those nights. And yes, you can cook rice in the multicooker.
Thank you! I've borrowed Sharla's instant pot and made so many things! I made Zuppa Toscana in it today and then later, Texas Style Ribs which were still a little bit frozen. I could hardly take them out with my tongs because they were falling apart! They are sooooo good! I'm probably going to watch the black Friday deals and see what I can get...
Hubby needs to know..is it football you do with your feet or American football? Also, I own 3 instant pots. I have the name brand so that I know the accessories will fit without problems. I recommend a second interior pot plus a silicone lid. You can dump your dinner in the pot and place on lid and store in the fridge. Tell hubby or kids when to start it in the IP. It also comes in handy for prep-you can be cooling meat in one pot and cooking chicken while your beef is cooling. I also recommend a silicone trivet with handles as well as silicone cake liner (I use for smaller sides or rice-less room in dishwasher). Egg bite molds are great if you make these. I make a double batch of jalapeno popper egg white bites quite regularly for hubby's breakfast.
It's American football. Well, in this case Canadian football. There are a few differences: we have only three tries to make your first down, our fields are slightly wider and our balls are bigger (snort!) I have been borrowing Sharla's instant pot for about a week and it's been going well. I may get one (or two!) of my own!
Lol, I currently have 2 instant pots. I have one pot for now and one for later 😂. One pot filled to the max fill line is roughly 4 souper cube trays:)❤ Love, love, love cooking beans in the instant pot. It’s not that your just cooking beans, but flavoring them as they cook. I soak the night before(if I remember, you don’t need to). I put all the spices right into the pot so I can easily make Tex mex or Italian flavored beans or make the soup and beans at the same time! I like the older name brand instant pot duos because I can use the steel liner for other things when not in use. Also having two of the same you can interchange the pots 😊 you only get the steam when you quick release which I rarely do. I love it for making mashed potatoes. Seriously mashing is so easy! Remove trivet and mash right in the pot! I will say that while I now have two, I’ve been through 4. I’m super heavy use of at least once a day for 3 years. That’s about all they’ll last… I threw the whole thing in the garbage for my first one that broke, but then got smart and kept the inner liner, the cord, plastic condensation catch and the trivet, so now I can interchange and swap pots in and out as food finishes:) I also love the pressure cooking for adding extra veggies (diced zucchini) into soups because they cook down and my kids don’t see them❤ Ohhh also wild rice and grains like barley that take forever! I make a wild rice soup that always comes out the same and I never have to worry about it not cooking through. Lol yup always still cook Jasmin and basmati on the stovetop, but brown, quinoa, farro, kamut. Turn the lid upside down or take off to fit in a drawer:)😊
This is so inspiring! Christie here. I borrowed Sharla's instant pot to try it out and so far I've been very impressed. I have made roasts, potatoes, soup and rice in them. I was only disappointed in the rice. I needed more moisture than the recipe called for and I made the mistake of not removing it all from the pot instantly. I'll try again though. I'm really interested in trying beans. Any particular recipes you recommend?
Ip is amazing for rice and all the things! Pro tip... you can use parboiled rice or noodles with chicken tenderloins in any recipe and the time is 8 mins. From frozen! (Plus pressure time of couusualits my fave appliance next to the slow cooker.
Thank you so much for the information on parboiled rice! I accidentally bought a 50lb bag of par boiled basmati rice. I’ve been hesitant to use it since I’m unsure of cooking times. I think I’ll use it in my instant pot and for casseroles if it takes less time! 😊 Thank you 😊
Absolutely @SpringFlowers537 ! Once I found out that tenderloins were the same time, the options were endless! I'm glad to help you make a dent in that giant bag of rice haha
You can cook rice, make yogurt and hard boiled eggs too. Cheesecakes can be made in the instant pot too! This is a great book: Great Food Fast : Bob Warden's Ultimate Pressure Cooker Recipes (Best of the Best Presents) Paperback
I'm going to try making hard boiled eggs today and see how they go! Maybe yogurt this weekend. I have some sliced strawberries that I have to use up... I'll give an update in an upcoming video!
@@FreezerMeals101 you are welcome! His cheesecake recipe is very good. The key to the cake not cracking is not barely whisk the eggs. If the eggs are over mixed the cake will crack on top. I plan on cooking your Dr Pepper pulled pork in my instant pot tomorrow.
Instant Pot Pro 6 quarts the inner pot is an actual pot with handles that can also be used on a stove (even induction). The handles keep the pot from spinning which eliminates a small annoyance. The sealing valve mechanism is automatic when lid is closed so you don’t need to remember to switch to sealing. Includes sous vide setting if you want to play with that technique. This Pro is supposed to be a little better for slow cooking than other models, but still not as good as a crock. #1 tip is to write ‘NO!’ With Sharpie on the metal tag of the outer pot as a reminder not to add anything without having the inner pot in place.
🤣 your note made me laugh! There are so many features on them, I don't know what to pick! I have heard people really love the sous-vide option. I think I would be interested in trying that.
I’m pretty sure the new IP’s have a different vent release to prevent spraying your ceiling😂. I love my IP, I have one in each size and use all of them pretty regularly. The 6 qt is the most versatile but i probably use the mini the most because it’s so easy to pull out. And yes, you can use it to cook rice. I batch cook rice and freeze in qt bags.
Christie here. I borrowed Sharla's instant pot for a week to see if I can make a go of it. I like it so far. Hers is a 6 qt and it seems to be overkill for most things but I did a giant roast with it and was glad to have the space. I would think having two sizes would be good!
I have a lot of experience with a Slow Cooker and an Instapot. I can tell you nothing is better than low and slow of a slow cooker. But if you are cooking beans (from dry beans) Or You need a four hour dish done in 1 hour - Instapot to the rescue. It's wonderful. Would it be better low and slow for hours- yes! Not gonna lie. But you can make delicious meals in the Instapot. We like Pinto Beans usually once a week. I use the IP for Ribs, Roasts, Stews, Chili...it's fast but you don't get that "slap yo momma" flavor. It will still taste better tomorrow (if you know what I mean). Best I can explain it.
So I hosted our football wind up party last weekend and Sharla and I each had a giant beef roast that we had made into beef BBQ. They were so big that I couldn't fit both into my crockpot so I borrowed her IP. From what I have read about instant pot roasts, you'll want to cut them and even sized chunks for them to cook more evenly. I even cut the one going into the slow cooker in half because it was so big! The slow cooker roast was able to cook on low for about 8 hours and the roast in the instant pot was still more tender. I think it's possibly because I cut it into four chunks. I also could have done a couple of more hours on the slow cooker roast. I was really impressed with the instant pot roast and was glad that I could test them side by side like that. I ended up shredding them and adding everything to the slow cooker to keep warm and it was a total hit! Which also means that I don't know which one tasted better in the end because they were in the same pot. I will do more research! Lol thank you so much for your comment. Do you have a particular bean recipe that you would recommend? I would really like to try it.
Pizza list would be great. I agree. My freezers are full right now so I’m going to try a new canning recipe instead. Keep these on the back burner for later. Lol . Is it just me or can other tell whose hand is making the meals when the camera is focused on the meal prep. I’ve been watching a long time. Funny story. I had a rogue bags of cheese and breadcrumbs in my freezer and couldn’t figure out what it went with. Now I know. The lazy day Parmesan chicken casserole. Already ate the casserole though.
🤣 I sometimes forget to put my wedding ring on after my shower and I am worried that someone will recognize my hands and think that I am leaving my husband! Our marriage is alive and well. I just wanted to say that publicly. LOL Thanks so much for watching!
I bought a large pumpkin pie at Costco. I want to freeze it for thanksgiving. (November 28) It is already baked. How do I prevent moisture from collecting on top of the pie? I thought about using plastic wrap but I’m afraid it will stick to the pie and damage the look of the pie. The pie comes in a container with a raised hard plastic top that is about 1/2-1 inch off the top of the pie. I also bought two rotisserie chickens that I plan to take the meat off and freeze the meat. I am making a chicken meat with two cans of cream of chicken soup and stuffing laid on top. Maybe adding mixed vegetables to it also. All the classic thanksgiving food in one pan. There will only be three women for the meal so baking a turkey would be too much food and more work. Any special instructions on freezing the chicken in chunks? Thanks.
I think it will get crystals on it no matter what. I think you should eat this one and buy another one closer to Thanksgiving. I have Frozen Costco pumpkin pie in the past and I cut it and froze the pieces individually so I could take them out and eat them whenever I wanted a piece. 😋 Even though they were starting to get Frost on them, they seemed to defrost well and it didn't seem like it ruined it. You could try a few test pieces and put plastic wrap on them to protect them from frost and see if that makes a difference. If it pulls the top off, you might just have to put extra whipped cream on!
I have 3 Instant Pots and a 14 qt GoWise pressure cooker and I love all of them!
I gave one away but I have one instant pot and an instant pot max now. Kitchen appliances are great to collect,😁
I would need to build a whole new storage system just to store them all! LOL
You should have had homemade pizzas in the freezer. lol. Would like to see a video on making a variety of those.
Love your Mom moments 😊 Super sweet❤ I’m like awhhh❤
Oh my gosh, I am making all of these asap! Huge casserole fan! Thanks, Ladies! Xoxo
I was hoping to see the dish set. I love it. He did good. :)
Oh we should have brought it out!
