Here we have a man looking at pieces of paper with dots on them, which are codes for which buttons and pedals to push, in what order, and for how long. This particular code was originally written down centuries ago by an expert in making the combinations of those button-pressings and pedal-pushings sound so pleasing that they have the effect of momentarily transporting the spirit, if indeed we have one (which I believe we do), to a wonderful place of reflection and peace. And when they are recorded, as they are here, we share that momentary joy with each other. While all of the parts and procedures may seem very basic, they join together to be really quite magical.

This is pure Bach, as pure as it could ever get.

And chapeau for the Flentrop crew who did an almost impossible task of recreating this instrument, Dutch organbuilders rule!

    A breath of fresh air!
Still just as fresh as the day it was written nearly 300 years ago.
That's the way to become immortal - leave a legacy so great that it never dates. How many people do that?

Oh I so love it when you are playing. Somehow, along with the late Karl Richter, I imagine that this is exactly how Bach would have played. The passion that you put into the playing is so obvious.
Thank you Van Doeselaar, and thank you to the Netherlands Bach Society for bringing all this beautiful music to life in so brilliant a manner.
    God bless
    John.

Was für durchsichtige doch warmherzige Tönen der historisch wertvolle Orgel! Die Aufführung ist auch literarisch "Super"!

Listening to this has just made my day! It's always been one of my favourite JSB chorale trios, but this performance sparkles! Beautiful instrument, gorgeous registration and flawless playing. Thank you so much Leo van Doeselaar and the NBS, sincere greetings to you all from England!

With such beautiful music, it would be no surprise to find after my final breath, a choir of God's angel accompanied by the cantor of heaven. That being J. S. Bach.

To sing along with the chorale (when it enters in the pedal at 2:46):
    1. Herr Jesu Christ, dich zu uns wend, 1. Lord Jesus Christ, come near to us,
Dein Heilgen Geist du zu uns send, Your Spirit come breathe life through us,
Mit Hilf und Gnad, Herr, uns regier Give grace to help our whole lives through,
Und uns den Weg zur Wahrheit führ. And guide us on the way to truth.

Beautiful registration and rendition, HOWEVER, I am wondering why no one tries to highlight the chorale melody in the bass line, when it starts, by changing its registration to a different one
