I'm mostly bedridden with a medical condition and can sit up for only a few hours a day. But, I have vowed to make art every day because making art is healing, so I use limits. 4"x4" square journal. Three to four pieces of collage paper or paint marks. Twenty minute time limit. Very simple art, but it allows me to complete at least one project a day. Which is very rewarding and which causes the brain to release dopamine which makes us feel good!
That's great - for sure, art is a healer :)
I'm so inspired by your comment, as well as by the video. I spent years bed bound, I've graduated to a recliner and brief periods of standing/movement. Early in my illness I tried to paint but the results were never 'perfect' so I just gave up. Working with limitations will be so helpful in overcoming perfectionism. And I love your idea of a time limit. It's so easy for me to over-tire myself, especially with sitting upright, focusing, hand movement, etc. You and OP have given me some great ideas. I wish you the best health possible and every happiness. Keep making art - the world needs it.
@@amycortez3289 We're in the same boat. For me, it's not about perfection. It's about play--something that the chronically ill don't get enough of!
Bless. That is a wonderful goal.
This abstract oil painting is truly ingenious in the use of colors, with each stroke seemingly containing endless emotions and stories. The collision and fusion of colors not only showcase the artist's profound skills, but also make the viewer feel as if they are in a dreamlike world of colors.
I completely agree. It's amazing! ❤
Watching for the 2nd time, because i need this.
Happy to help ❤
Love playing with limitations! And loved the taster course last year and looking forward for the next ❤
So glad to hear that! Stay tuned 🙂

Great demo. Thank you for reminding us how invoking a few, or many, limitations can accelerate our learning and creativity.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you, Louise!
You are so welcome!
Great lesson to learn. I’ve been so excited about abstract art and I love the feeling with the paints or something about putting a brush and paint on paper or with your fingers either way, but I’m trying to learn everything and applying it to my practice and I’m getting nowhere. I just joined the tribe last month, oh by the way, my name is CJ Morris thank you
I keep trying to sign up for what seem like new offerings. I'm on a waitlist (or three? :)
Oh well, still enjoying your videos Louise and hope you're enjoying your new space!

There are no “limits” to the creative mind. “Limitation’ is the birth of creativity.
Yes! So true!
Thank you for the video. I tend to over work my artwork then get frustrated. ❤😅
You're welcome 😊
What's the large brush you used for black? I love big brushes. 🙂
I wish I could answer this! Unfortunately I got it years and years ago so I can't remember where I purchased it.
Louise or followers: is the free course mentioned in this video available at your website or TH-cam? Thanks, Neil
Hi Neil! The course itself is hosted on my website. We have a community on Facebook and then the calls will be streamed here on TH-cam. We would love to have you! www.louisefletchercourses.com/find-your-joy-2024-free-taster
Hi, given the mark limits, what is the point of making a mark or two and then coving them up with the big black brush? Are these wasted marks or is there something else going on I'm missing? Thanks
Sometimes I let them dry before covering them up so that the texture is still there. Other times I am not happy with them and want to see them gone. It's really depending on the feeling I am going for.
Would love to take the course. How do I?
