This song has been stuck in my head for YEARS and I couldn't remember it until now. Everytime I read "supersonic" is class or whatever, I'd think "INTO OBLIVION" and have no idea why. It's been like that for 10 years
It's not a song about Sonic the Hedgehog, but it sounds like it could be in one of his games, so a lot of people like it. I'm sure Bad Religion doesn't mind.
***** I can say with absolute certainty that the hardcore punk band that writes heavily anti-social songs, with its band members being about thirty when the first Sonic game came out, were not inspired by Sonic.
I'm fully willing to accept that this song wasn't inspired by Sonic the Hedgehog, hard as it is to believe. Which begs the question: What did inspire this song?! I'm very interested in knowing.
Chromodar He has to push himself to go faster and further with each new, world-ending threat. He can't allow himself to fail because, if he does, all the good deeds he's done up to that point might as well have never happened in the eyes of the surviving humans. He would receive the blame for the world's misfortune and subsequently be rejected forever by humans as the person who failed to save them. Get it? It's a mindset that negatively affects many people in positions of power or authority, or those who society has deemed heroes.
Everyone's getting so upset, just enjoy the song! It likely has zero connection with Sonic. But that doesn't mean people can't draw connections to it based upon the lyrics. It doesn't matter either way, whether people enjoy the song because they like Bad Religion's music or because it can relate to a certain blue hedgehog, anyone can enjoy the song, for any reason. Just go SUPERSONIC!
I disagree. The failure to convey meaning is the very definition of failed art. If your use of language in poetry, rhythms and movements in music, or motif in painting doesn't evoke the emotion or concept you intended, then you failed as an artist. Saying that it has many meanings is the same as saying it has no meaning.
Kyon I disagree for two reasons. 1- An artist can be intentionally vague in their work for any reason of their choice. For example; there are a ton of stories that have endings which are left to the imagination. Sometimes it's done in order to create discussion among a fan base, or sometimes it's done because the artist thinks it's fun. The audience's reaction can be it's own art. 2- Most people will not see something the exact same way someone else does. Any widely viewed piece of art is going to be interpreted a plethora of different ways, regardless of the artist's intention. That is not a failure.
He enforces the idea in "How does it feel to be outstripped by the pace of cultural change?" The world changes around him, and he needs to "go at supersonic speeds" so he can keep feeling human, stuck in his ways as he is. When he says "My deeds are senseless and rendered meaningless, when measured in that vein", it means that he considers himself as having no choice other than going supersonic, as he'll be left out of society if he does not. Though he does think it's exciting when he tries...
When I listen to this, I think about Sonic (well I'm a Sonic fan so obviously, *Supersonic* duh... I can't help but to think about it every time I see it), Flash, Dragon Booster (because of a really cool amv from like 10 years ago) and maybe anything that just goes crazy fast, because it's kinda what this song can evoke too.
Zelnyair No... I don't think so... I just imagine it might be annoying to have your song associated with something it was never meant supposed to be associated with. Sonic is a good game series... despite some notable exceptions.
I remember this was used in a Teen Titans comic for Mas y Menos vs Kid Flash. Been searching forever to find this song! I wonder if anyone can remember the other 3 songs.
I wish they had more of that bad ass riff that goes from 1:21 to 1:26!! Still a fking killer song!!! Im gonna continue listening to it over and over until I get tired of it! A little Pissin my neighbors off on this gloriously beautiful south fla sunday morning!!
I thought it was about being lost in a kind of advanced world. Well, as i see it, it is "The problem's chronic." The problem is chronic, it's something that bothers for a long period of time. "Gotta go faster, keep up the pace, just to stay in the human race." If you're not in modernity, you're not human. You are made to feel the need to catch up.
that's probably the reason they said "The Problem's Chronic" so it didn't confuse sonic fans but oh well it did confuse us. Either way this does fit sonic.
Tomas Contreras That, or the entire song is about how Sonic's ability to become Super Sonic and his over-reliance on the Chaos Emeralds takes all the thrill out of fighting his enemies. "I could go Super Sonic" and "The problem's chronic" allude to the fact that, even when he's in danger, he can always just transform and curbstomp his opponent. That, and in almost every game, he has to transform to defeat the final boss. I imagine something like that would take a toll on him, making him cynical and apathetic.
are you literally kidding me jacob it's a song about drug use, not sonic the hedgehog. why do people think it's about sonic for? just because it has the word sonic in it, doesn't mean its about the fictional character. no offense
it could be, although I think it's about drugs because the lead singer had a drug problem and alot of the lyrics sound like it's him talking drugs y'know. but i don't know
i was playing srb2 with a joke mod and this song came on and genuinely thought they said “the problems gonic” like what was i thinking btw very good song
+Gabriel Paulino Now, what you're suggesting, is to take a song about heroin, from a *punk* band. And turn it into the theme for a game series that's been long dead, and has no relation to anything from the band. I can't speak for the members of BR, but typically punk rockers have a very anti-establishment attitude. This is why they started their own record label instead of getting signed to a major label. So, do you really expect them to be okay with having a massive company take their song and use it? Only time I can remember them doing that is for a Need For Speed game, but that song was from an album that didn't sell very well. They could use all the coverage for the album they can get. That's like me saying that everyone should use "Fuck Authority" by Pennywise as the national anthem. It doesn't make sense, and barely any fans of either Pennywise or the government would think that's a good idea. In this case though, all the sonic fans don't seem to mind butchering the actual meaning behind the song, and instead turning it into the theme for a dead game mascot.
Well asking for permission of course but the song sounds really great and since Sonic the hedgehog has a super transformation this song to me fits since it has to do with speed.
Gabriel Paulino That's true, but looking deeper into the meaning of the song shows it's more about heroin than high speeds. And sonic is something that a lot of kids are into. Do we really want to introduce young kids to things like Bad Religion? Don't get me wrong, I love the band, and I listen to all of their stuff. But I also enjoy a lot of things that aren't exactly kid friendly. The messages behind BR songs are ones that kids either wouldn't be able to understand and wouldn't like, or they'll repeat all of what BR has to say. We'd be turning them into broken records. The same as kids raised in super christian households who only know how to spit out the same arguments their parents would always make.
I found this song as a Sonic fan. Now as a Bad Religion fan (still a Sonic fan, but a bigger BR fan right now) I honestly find the Sonic comments and the fact that the only video of this song I could find at the time had Sonic imagery annoying. I'll always associate this song with Sonic GL and HMS12311, so I guess it's not that bad.
For me, it was the Sonic character theme song videos. My favorite one had "Blue" by Eiffel 65 for Sonic, "Kiss Me" by Sixpence None the Richer for Amy, "Killer Queen" by Queen for Breezie, and this for Super Sonic.
IKR!! I just ended it at what I said cause people don't know the actual meaning of this song let alone how to interpret what he is saying. Also the guy had a SERIOUS drug problem so this song would obviously be a reference to his "problem". Anyway glad someone can actually listen to the song for once. Also to people who think it would make a great sonic song no it wont. Obvious reasons.
Angela Ziegler Interpretation. I’ve just found out it’s the first song of the album “The process of belief” and it was a “welcome back” from one of the singers who rejoined the band.
