    I have the 01 and have tried the samples from Gentleman's Nod and their scent profiles are excellent and yes, the 01 is darker.
    I have found when I am lathering in a bowl or from the soap container and the soap becomes aerated, that I back off the pressure I am applying with the brush and start 'whisking' the lather and not the actual soap and that tends to knock the air bubbles out of the lather for a creamier consistency.
    Cool video - not sure I like the idea of the Katana - seems a bit fiddly for my liking :-)

      Thanks very much, mate. I really appreciate your thoughts: it's a shame I've run out but I have never had so much trouble with a soap before. I may actually buy the sample pack again, now. Good advice! I'm going to pin this comment.

      @@FriendshipShaving Thanks for pinning my reply. I have to look into your cashmere brush - seems an interesting brush. I also have the Zaharoff which is a nice soap as well and the range that came with it. See if you can get a sample of it and if you have no luck, tag me here again - I believe (not 100% sure) they sent me a sample which I don't need as I bought the soap - so if I can find it I will send it on to you. Cheers.

    I know the Zaharoff soap from GN is in the "Cardinal" base. I am not sure if these in the sample pack are from the Cardinal base or not. I only have the Zaharoff Cardinal one, and it does indeed perform wonderfully.

      I have yet to try it, Todd. I have enough soap for the time being, about eight years. I've a new slim cabinet in the den; when the cabinet is full, buying stops. Trades are allowed but I must take one from the cabinet, to put one back in. However, I was trying to say that I might, at some point, try a full tub of Vincent or Ernest, now I've got the hang of it.

    I do like using the Yaqi Katana razor and is one few more aggressive razors that I get on with. Like you demonstrated getting the blade correctly aligned needs a little toothpic manipulation. As you stated technique is key to the comfort with this razor, I use two techniques that seem to work quite well: one is riding the cap a bit like you used in the video and the other way is riding the safety bar, I use both depending on where I'm using the razor. My shaving friend like using this razor for head shaves. I have requested Yaqi to look into fixing the alignment Pin issue in their next release, maybe they will listen.

    • @FriendshipShaving
      @FriendshipShaving  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is a little fiddly, isn't it? I tried riding the safety bar, very briefly but I will try it again. It didn't seem to work so well for me. Contacting Yaqi was very nicely done. I wish I had thought of that 😃 Maybe they will take note. Cheers.

    Hi Mark- Great shave and razor review; thank you! I have not used either of these products, but I’m glad that both the razor and soap performed better for you. I hope your weekend is off to a nice start. Feet-up as soon as you can! I hope the new lockdown measures are working for you in the UK. In NYC, public schools may return to online learning only, starting as early as Monday because of the increase in the infection rate. Difficult times, all over. Take good care and be safe and be well. Best regards, as always, my friend!

    Hi Mark. Thanks for another great shaving video. I am not familiar with any of the products you used but I sometimes have similar unexpected outcomes with shaving equipment (or my inconsistent technique). I really like this Yaqi (SRH041) head, but I think that the Razorock Eco gives a far superior / enjoyable experience with much less effort.
    I'm still.... trying to master my skills with the Straights, shavettes and Artist Club (/G1105) but have much greater results with the Eco.

    Great shave, Mark. But how about that for sod's law, eh!
    I have grown to love Skin Bracer, but now tend to shy away from the Yaqi SE head due to the level of faff involved and my inability to get a consistently good shave with it. It is quite sad, as I had really high hopes for it.

    Goes to show that if the razor isn't damaged and the blade isn't dull, technique trumps tools as I have heard many times from a fellow wetshaver and also youtuber "Shaving with Fuzzy".
    After having success with that Gentleman's Nod soap would you consider giving a chance to the Williams mug soap? Surprisingly enough I'm having great shaves with it lately. Keep safe and healthy Mark. All the best

    • @FriendshipShaving
      @FriendshipShaving  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think Fuzzy might be right, to a large degree although I don't know if you could say that about vintage blades, compared to modern. I would try the famed Williams mug soap but I don't think I can get it in the UK. Anyway, I have enough soap to be getting on with. A lot of people seem to have no issues at all with Williams.
