A friend from Berlin took me on a trip to and through the Spreewald, and it was a lovely experience. I loved the pickles and wished I had bought more. The regional train ride through the countryside was spectacular with sunflowers in bloom all around. I’d never considered Germany as a big sunflower producer, so I learned something new!
Glad I found Spreewald so nice. Might consider going there when we stay in Berlin. We have limited time from Sept 5-7, then leave for Munich. We Potsdam, and maybe Spreewald.

Really cool to see you visiting these places ☺️, Brandenburg is far to underrated and deserves so much more attention. The Spreewald is so beautiful, so unique and just one option for having a good time. Brandenburg in total offer's a lot for outdoor activities, for culture and very a nice nature. And like you said in your video, it's not so difficult to visit these places, even without a car. It would be nice to see you guy's visiting and introducing more of these places. The north of Brandenburg is quite nice to and offer's more options. Templin, Prenzlau, Neuruppin, Rheinsberg, Eberswalde or Angermünde for example. Well done, nice video 👍👏
You look as if you have just stepped out of a Vermeer painting! "officer and laughing girl" or perhaps " The procuress" You and your videos are quite ethereal>
I did try the pickles! They were delicious. I have a whole video on my channel where I am trying them. I want to go back in Winter! Apparently they still do boat tours but with blankets and Glühwein
This is really fantastic! I'll be in Berlin in April and want to get OUT of the city while I'm there (I'm a county mouse!). Are there any other places you'd recommend?
Lovely video from the former East German countryside, so peaceful and it appears you were really lucky with the weather ! I wonder if you met any other English-speaking visitors ? Did you have any trouble with mosquito encounters ? Those can be a real pain. Regarding the vegan problems, you always have lots of Gurken to choose from....
We were really lucky with the weather - it was perfect! We didn't meet any other English speaking visitors. It was mostly Germans and a few Polish families. Thankfully there were only a few mosquitos and we came prepared with some spray. and yes, the vegans can just eat lots of Gurken 😂🥒🥒
@@JessieLina You were very well prepared for German wilderness then, very impressive ! And I would have been surprised had you met significant numbers of English-speaking visitors, thanks for your kind reply ! I had similar experiences going to state parks in the US, no Europeans to be seen there. Going north from Berlin, you can find so many more canals and lakes which are highly enjoyable, too, be it by bike or by canoe. And, if you are not afraid of ruining your holiday feelings, you can consider visiting the former concentration camp Ravensbrück as well.
I'm adding to the itenerary when i come to Berlin for a day out in Nature. Is it easy to hike in this area and are there any maps etc available highlighting the hiking trails. Did you hire the bike, if so where can you get them and how much for.
Hi! It is very easy to hike here. The paths are well marked. I'm not sure of any maps though. We brought our bikes with us so unfortunately I can't help you there. Hope you enjoy your time in the Spreewald!
Hi! I don't have a specific place to recommend. I booked the place I stayed at in Lübbenau via booking.com. You can also visit www.spreewald.de and take a look at the accommodations suggested there. Hope you enjoy the Spreewald!
Especially people from the English-speaking part of the world fall victim to the misconception that Germany is the land of Germanic people only. And not many Germans as well will know how many of their ancestors are either of Slavic or Celtish origin. Celts lived north of the Alps and in what is now France and further east in what later became Germany, anything east of the Elbe was once Slavic land. When you come to a place that ends on -ow, -in, -ihn, itz you can be sure it dates back to pre-German times. The remoteness of the Spreewald preserved its Slavic inhabitants, they are called "Sorben", and their language is a protected minority language in Germany today. Other minorities with their own language are the Frisians along the Northsea coast and the Danes in Schleswig-Holstein.
