    2:32 you are correct. the 3300 and 3100 are indeed defective ryzen chips that doesn't meet the required core count for 3600 and above products. as the manufacturing process matures - less and less defective chips are produced hence why these ryzen 3 vanished like a fart in the wind which is a real shame because they are really competitive chips for their original MSRP.
    TLDR; the 3300 and 3100 are not purposely built cpu's. but rather a byproduct of defective chips during the (at the time new) manufacturing process. it was a godsend back then the "no chip left behind" mantra.

      On top of that the defective CPU had to have a very specific configuration of good cores to be a 3300X and not a 3100 (All four good cores on the same core cluster, or CCX).

    • @DigitalJedi
      @DigitalJedi 3 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      With AMD moving to an 8 core CCX with the current 5000 cpus it makes sense that the 5100, 5200, and 5300 variants are quite rare as losing that many cores to defects on a CCX likely means other parts of it are dead too.

    • @roqeyt3566
      @roqeyt3566 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      It's also why you can sometimes get disabled cores or cache to work, but it's a bit of a mess and it's usually instable
      Sometimes a chip has 5 working cores, and the cache is functional for a 6 core model, but one core is just not really up to the task so they bring it down to the next lower spec by disabling portions.

      I got a Ryzen 3 3100 from Dec 2020.
      Now I'm not sure if its just silicon lottery or if it's due to the more mature process like you said, but I'm able to do a 4.3 GHz overclock at just 1.243v. Essentially an i7-7700K for $100.

  • @darthwiizius
    @darthwiizius 3 ปีที่แล้ว +51

    The 3300X was a demonstration of what a single CCX chip would bring to the table, AMD was hinting at the upgrade that the ZEN3 chips would bring with their 8 core single CCX design even using just 4 cores in a ZEN2 architecture.

      In older times they have disabled better parts to fill supply contracts. I'm pretty sure nowadays those contracts are written so that "at least" a certain part is supplied, rather than wasting high quality parts and better thermal management and customisable TDP have helped.

    AMD should really start focusing on APU production, especially RDNA-based APUs because from watching the price trends of their current 5000 series CPUs with the frequent discounts on them from retailers, they're more accessible and easy to buy than their GPUs. I recently put together a lower cost amd system, and i wanted a 3300x
    However i found they were only about 10$ CAD cheaper than the 3600 new.
    And on the used market they were actually more expensive than the 3600.
    So i felt i was kind of pushed in the direction of buying the 3600 because the pricing just didnt really make sense.
    I have seen some benchmarks from HUB where the 3300x scored higher than the 3600 because of the higher single core performance. But the 6/12 cpu will most likely have more longevity.

    There is a setting in Windows Graphics settings advanced menu that completely sends all the frame timings to the gpu bypassing the cpu entirely. So from there the gpu goes as fast as it can go. I have a 3950x so I tell the cpu to handle the physics instead of the gpu, using nvidia control panel. So this gives the card more resources on itself to perform better.

    Ryzen 3 Pro 4350G/GE launched before the 3300x, however, these were APUs with a completely different die design than the desktop 3300X/3800X. As far as i can tell, even though the 4350G/GE were very popular with businesses, AMD had resorted to fusing off parts of working 4750G/GE dies to meet demand for 4650G and 4350G Yields were reportedly so good, that the majority of the 4-6 core versions were actually cut down 8 cores without a defect that required them to be turned into a lower product. normally requiring a defect in either the CPU, or GPU many ended up with 'intentional' defects

    I mean - to be honest much older 4 core 8 thread CPUs are perfectly fine for game even today. An example I have right here is my "bedroom PC" - which is partially an old "rescue" from an office PC - a Xeon E3-1230 V3 - which roughly performs like a 4770. I had a bad back for 6 months (which I got over about 7 months ago - so fairly current). It is paired with an RTX 2060 - and maxes out the GPU basically all the time. It performs very well in new games - including games like Cyberpunk... So frankly unless you have a 3070 or 6700XT (ish) you would be just fine with a CPU like that. On that note - I thought the ECC DDR3 from the office PC would be an issue - but it's actually not that bad at all. My main rig is a much newer and faster Ryzen 5600X - and in most games I can't really tell the difference - unless I crank the setting to the max.

That's just a bullshit cover story told by the mainstream news agencies, in the interest of NOT causing a public panic. The true reason for all these shortages is the Long Emergency, as foretold by James Howard Kunstler! You see, the Long Emergency is caused by global resource depletion. That would just be a 180 degree turn of their original brand image, which is to serve the mid-low budget market. Though there are possible factors to this, such as a very few defects of their 8 core dies that would make a quad core chip, in which it would make more financial sense to just release 6/8 cores. The bad impact is that it would leave intel monopolizing the low-end cpu market. The i3 just keeps getting renewed. The 13100f can run rtx 4060 in games without bottleneck let alone lower end gpus the customers would most likely buy. 14100f is the same thing just higher by 200 mhz.

      I was in the same situation and wish I had waited for 5000 series. Single ccx is still the best and I think the 3300x would be better even outside of games. Even in just general system responsiveness, that single ccx design would make everything feel snappier. I went with an r5 3600 and while it has more cores and threads, I can honestly say it's still not as responsive as even an old 4th gen Intel. Although we're talking milliseconds, once you've used a single ccx chip you can really notice the difference.

    The Ryzen 3300X was ultimately a better buy for current Entry Level Workstations in comparison to the similarly performing 8600K, 9600K, and Ryzen 3500X (though those come with significantly worse Framerate Consistency in Gaming, despite 06 Core/06 Thread chips performing roughly on par with their 04C/08T counterparts); in reality, Four Core chips with Multithreading will ultimately be the better buy for Generation VIII Gaming and earlier than a Six Core without MT ever will, and this Zen II CPU will hold its worth more than the 3500X that both this and the Ryzen PRO 4350G will still have some relevance in the Asian market, where they will still bear more presence.
    With Alder Lake coming in the next 064 days though, this will be the worst time to opt for getting a Quad Core chip from Intel or AMD if you intend to get a DDR IV~based platform, and I wouldn't be surprised if there will be some cost effective chips coming from Generation XII Core i that will serve with better Price to Performance (if the Tray Price for a 12900KF at 0579$ USD is anything to go by, expect there to be price drops from AMD if this chip truly is near the 5950X's Multithreaded performance and ultimately having better AI capabilities than any of Zen III); while the i03 units probably won't arrive until the Locked chips come out in the months to follow, the simple presence of the 12600KF alone at 0263.I5$ will force many lower end parts to see their prices tank, either that or it'll make looking for a 3300X or 4350G inconsiderable due to both of those chips being hard to get below 02I0 to 0260$ on the Second Hand market, we'll have to watch closely for how well the Alder Lake i05 (K Series) parts settle but it may very well put a major dent into considering a Ryzen 03 during AMD's ongoing availability factor.
