I got a cordyline stick as a souvenir from a friend who visited Hawaii - it was from a gift shop and they were not fresh. I had very little hope that it would sprout but it actually did after a few months in a take out container of damp sphagnum. It eventually gave me roots and new growth is poking through! Truly a resilient plant!

Yes this is good for confidence building for beginner plant parents. They do require more light than typical tropical foliage though

I love your enthusiasm for Cordyline. I feel the same and just came into possession of a variegated one. I’m so excited to have one again. I will overwinter indoors bc we are in a cold climate. Thank you!

Always enjoy and learn a lot from your videos. The cordyline is very common here and referred to as "ti" leaf locally. The croton is non native to Hawaii, but is commonly seen around shopping centers and sometimes a neighbor's yard since the weather conditions support them. Very hearty plants. Aloha!

Thing about Cordies in the tropics is they grow well in full light during the rainy season but the minute he rain stops after weeks of downpour they then scorch badly in the sun as the leaves became soft and tender in the rainy. However in the shade they also languish and grow skinny and badly. The leaves don't much like rain and wet all the time, this causes big dead spots, I guess fungal induced dead water mark patches. Many people spray continuously during the wet season with copper based fungicides to avoid this (not very environmentally sound) but preventing scorching is more problematic. Mine always look best in the dry season, during the wet season I chop em up and propagate.
