Gadget was already my favorite iOS app. This update makes it even more spectacular. Great demo! Anxiously awaiting the release of the KORG nanoKEYStudio MIDI controller!
Me too! I am so anxious that I ordered one from an Ebay seller in Japan because the listing gave the impression that they were in stock. Turns out that they are not in stock. The seller says they will have them May 28th. I will check back at that time. Guitar Center's website says they aren't expected until June 22. Grrrr
+Sean Garland I saw another listing from a seller in Japan. It was priced at a whopping $286US. I asked if it was available now. This is the reply: "Hello, This product is in stock in the warehouse. It is immediately possible to send it out. Shipping time will take about one week by EMS to US. Please be ordered in a hurry because the popular commodity. Thank you."
Never knew this was possible, now I can have all my tracks on different midi channels and my controller easily lets me jump to different midi channels. I could see this being very useful for improvisation and live overdubbing.
No, I doesn’t support anything like that. I assume you’re looking for an “Ableton-esque” type interface. There are other apps that work like that, like modstep for example. It’s a midi sequencer with a clip-launching interface. The programming is rather deep on it and can be a bit daunting to get started with. Even if it is a midi sequencer it does come with a small amount of instruments, however nothing as crazy as Gadget can offer (instrument wise). But it does allow for sequencing internal stuff like AUv3’s and even external IAA apps and external hardware gear.
Thanks Jakob. Truly appreciate your detailed response & advice. Yes you are right, I was looking for something of both ableton-like triggering & a good basic sequencer. Am a hardcore DP/ABLETON/REASON desktop user & for portability was looking to go the iOS route (after researching its robustness), for doing descent sketches which I can share over the net. After much thinking btw Cubasis,Auria,BM3, I decided to go with BM3 for that purpose, but then Gadget is on sale, & I found the sequencer very easy for doing beds to solo over in addition to its good instruments, so I thought I'll check its features, esp'lly Midi Learn, as I like to assign controllers to play with. But am a little disappointed with these companies leaving out basics. I wanted to share my angsts with you Jakob if you would like. First I would like to congratulate You, doug & many other musicians for creating such a great iOS community & keeping it so vibrant. After researching all iOS apps & going on FB ios groups. I just saw so many feature requests which were so basic (for eg Time signatures in Amplify apps), that were not implemented in the apps. I would like to know, why is that after such powerful curators like You n many other & such alive userbase (all shouting their lungs for features to do what - Make music easily?) of iOS apps, Why are these app devs/companies not implementing the basic features? (Like for eg here , korg not letting us control the Transport bar/Scenes thru midi). WHY? Peace & LOVE :-)
Midi Out would make gadget the ultimate composing tool, master controller for driving all the other awesome iOS synths. What do you recommend as the cleanest path to have the same sequence playing a gadget patch and, let's say, magellan. Layered bass kind of thing. Thanks, Jakob. You are my guru!
I'm currently using an iPad mini 2 (retina) running iOS 9.3 The iPad 3 is older so it has much less processing power and memory. My older iPad mini 1 is struggling too when running multiple gadgets + fugue machine.
Seems like the mini 2 has a 64bit dualcore. So its definitely much faster than my old ipad 3. I'm upgrading to an Air2 soon so i should be fine in the foreseeable future. Will probably use my ipad 3 as a dedicated Patterning or modstep sequencer via ableton link. thanks so much for responding so soon :)
+gonekrazy3000 That's a great plan! A never iPad is going to open up possibilities for your music. And as you say the old one can still be used for plenty of stuff. I still get mileage out of my iPad mini 1. Not a day goes by without me using it in some way, for videos, audio or just casual gaming. =D
One good thing about my ipad3 is it has support for Bluetooth le. So I can use Apollo midi over Bluetooth to send midi across and use link to sync up both iPads while only requiring one camera connection kit for midi controllers :)
Hi Jakob, can you tell me please: In this set-up, can the MIDI be recorded in Gadget? To me that is a vital question that remains unanswered. I’m on the fence for buying Gadget, and this would help me soooo much. Tack så mycket!
Yes, KORG Gadget can receive and record any type of third party CORE MIDI compatible controller that transmits MIDI Note and/or MIDI CC# data. . All gadgets can be controlled in this manner however there is no way of controlling the mixer section and or fx modules with third party MIDI controllers. That section can only be controlled with a KORG nanoKONTROL studio and even with that device the fx modules are not available, only the panning and volume faders are available. . Note that Fx modules, Gadgets, and mixer controls, can still be automated via the built In modulation interface and no controller is needed for that. . Another thing to note is that KORG Gadget lacks MIDI out options and cannot transmit MIDI out. So you can’t sequence external apps and/or hardware with KORG Gadget. . On the other hand it’s fully possible to sequence KORG Gadget from external apps and/or hardware.
Jakob Haq Thank you, Jakob. And when you say controller, you also mean Fugue Machine, as in this set-up? For me set-up means both hardware and software, but I’m not sure everybody thinks that way. But can Gadget record the MIDI coming from Fugue?
Just bought this app earlier today. Been playing with it a bit. For some reason all the demos sound bad to me.. weird timing and i think I hear a bunch of clicking pops. And it doesn't really lend itself towards live performances it seems.. interface seems clunky and I don't like the blue color scheme. But maybe I just need to learn how to use it. On a positive note, at least it has Abelton Link ability. I dunno, I guess I'll start wathcing some of your video son this product. I might ask for a refund if I can't get this to work well enough. I find the knobs are VERY hard to control and if possible I rather map a midi controller with some rotary encoder knobs to it if possible.
Seems like you have hit the dreaded cpu limit. Are you using an older 32bit iPad like the 2 or 3? Pretty much anything older than the iPad air 1 or iPad mini 2 can handle at max 3-4 realtime gadgets.
the air1 should easily be able to load most of the demo projects. its probably a buffer size problem. go to the settings and change the buffer to something higher like 256 or 512 samples and test. if still crackling go higher. when you have 11-12 gadgets a lower buffer can cause it to crackle and die quite easily. 1 workaround when your project becomes a behemoth is freezing each layer (freezing temporarily renders the gadget to audio pretty much freeing it from cpu completely). 1 other tip. usually the first app you load sets the buffer. no app can change it after that except for the first app. For example Thumbjam sets the buffer extremely low to get the lowest latency. Try loading gadget first before anything else. or loading everything inside Audiobus or Aum and setting the buffer there.
+Daniel Ribeiro my iPad mini 2 can handle 8 realtime Gadgets! I haven't tried going above that yet but t I think I'm going to experiment with it and see what it can actually handle.
+Jakob Haq I think the demo list has much more than 8 tracks if I recall.. seemed like a lot. Are you impressed with the scores included? I think some of it dosn't make sense. I'll try muting everything but the one that seems weird.. I think it's the compositons that are bothering me.
awesome tuorial! also like your voice, very friendly and enthusiastic :-) keep it on the good work
Thanks mate. It’s really helpful. Many thx👌

+HamFunk Productions Amazon just listed these yesterday, but stating "Ships in 2-4 weeks". But, at least we're getting closer!
+Sean Garland, that's good news! Hopefully they will ship in 2 weeks. Thanks!

Exactly what I was thinking! :)
Great tutorial Jakob, thank you!
Thanks great tutorials as usual
+Eugene Degraffinreid My pleasure! =D
Great Video!!!
+Professional Hater Thank you! =D
do yo make a new tutorial about all the latest features from Juni 2016 ?
Great stuff! Is there any way how to midi map effects knobs like filter, EQ, etc.?
Can we assign ext Midi to trigger scenes? Does the Scene's button have midi learn?

Hmmm....so, would I be able to copy MIDI from Scaler 2 to Gadget 2?
Brilliant Gadget and your video, as always. Have you tried iSem with Fugue? Its 8 voices sound amazing as fugue makes them evolve. Congrats man!
No I haven't, but I'll certainly try it now! =D
When Korg will to add Midi Out...
I hoping KORG will add that too.
Sorry for late comment,
but, did MIDI out happen with this app?
Thanks :)
@@zetetick395 Gadget now has MIDI out, folks!
@@fruitleatherjacket2924 Yesss! \o/
Now that's some great news, cheers man! :D
Looks like this is only for midi notes per channel. m i right Mr Jakob ?
It works for MIDI CC's too. =D
