Saying Volpe is the best SS in baseball is absolutely absurd. I am a die hard Yankee fan and I can name 5 shortstops better than him without even thinking that hard. You can defend your player and be realistic about what you have at the same time. You want to say this is what we’ve got and we’re sticking with it? Fine. But don’t lie. @@DeepfriedBeans4492 He said “you say ‘the defense is great, we acknowledge that.’ That’s enormous. He’s the best shortstop in the league.” To which Jomboy said “defensive shortstop.” I’m not saying Boone thinks volpe is a great hitter, but he is completely glossing over the fact he is hardly ever on base and he is not hitting. He’s not even in the top 100 for OBP in baseball. His OPS is under .700 which is subpar.
Thanks for asking the tough questions. You speak for all of us in your confusion at many things Cashman and Boone do. Boone: "If he has two good weeks he's at a 720 OPS. Yeah Boonehead the two weeks of good hitting is a huge variable. Let's see it and some more consistency after he does it.
Clay Holmes CANNOT be our closer anymore. He allows tons of grounders on a team with weak infield defense (minus Volpe). Clay's WHIP has gone up every season since he arrived: 0.79, 1.02, 1.17, 1.30. This isn't "bad luck." Teams have figured out how to beat him: just put the ball in play. Something will get through. If he walks someone, it's even easier.
as a non-yankees fan, i’m amazed holmes hasn’t been removed from the closer role. just makes sense to me that a groundball pitcher with a bad defense behind him can’t be closing games for you. then you factor in the league-leading blown saves he already has this year. not sure why they’re sticking with him and not even considering finding him a new spot.
It's not just the ground balls that hurt him..its the amount of walks he gives up..he loses his control in an instant. If he didn't walk so many a lot of of those ground balls that sneak through wouldn't really hurt as much

Yeah, what a dumbass for saying the guy on pace for 3.8 war deserves to play in the majors /s. Clay has actually been struggling so commenting on that is reasonable. If anyone is cooked it's jomboy for making that weirdass take/criticism about volpe.
Boone wasn't wrong about Volpe though. He's a slightly below to below average hitter and arguably the best defender at the position. Top 50 in bWAR for position players. His bad stretches at the plate make it seem worse but he's a very valuable player
Without defending jimmy and jake.... The yanks have a development problem. Volpe has proven he is a big league defender, but something is off for batting. And you can say that about the entire yankees team the last twoish years. Judge goes down with an injury and suddenly they have zero offense. I dont know what the answer is, or if thats boones fault.... But the padres had a similar problem a few years ago. They fired a bunch of pitching coaches until things got better.

you're better than his comment, faeou. need you to start banning the vocal minority of psychos in Jomboy's audience that wants jimmy and jake to be even more pissy and antagonistic in these interviews. this was brutal.
No one is saying anything about his glove. Jom has explored tons of stats where Volpe is bucking trends, in a bad way, when it comes to hitting. ex: getting markedly worse the 2nd and 3rd time through the order seeing a pitcher. edit: To be fair, I blame the yankees. They bat him too high in the order last year, and he should never have been batting lead off this year. He needs a season+ in the 7-9 hole and the yankees keep delaying it.
It’s his bat. Look at his numbers. This year his numbers are very similar to Cabreras who has 250 less ABs. Glove isn’t in question. But Volpe for almost 2 years are as following 227 avg (below the shit league average) 290 OBP 383 slug 673 ops 84 OPS+ (league avg is 100) 291 strikeouts over 283 career games. His offensive by the numbers and just watching him everyday , he’s not good offensively. And Too many point to gold glove (which is great but doesn’t negate the shit offense). He’ also goes into DEEP DEEP slumps where it’s not just a 2 maybe 3 weeks stretch it’s way longer and soooo bad.
Been waiting for this to happen. If he never got mad at you guys you wouldn’t be doing your job. Normally I wouldn’t say that but considering last year & the way things have been handled this year there should be some awkward eps
Boonie needs to be mad at every Yankee batter not named Juan or Aaron. I appreciate that you made Boone uncomfortable. The answers he gives are like he believes we don't see the numbers or watch the games. He obviously thinks he is smarter than everyone, so he continues to blow smoke up our a$$.
I gotta be honest (i skipped to the outburst) im with Boone about Volpe. Hes so underrated by impatient yankees fans. Im not panicking, a 90 OPS+ shortstop with great defense is a positive player, with tons of room to grow at 22 years old. He's shown he can be an above average bat too, which would make him an elite player. Its way more on the veterans who are shitting the bed.
I gotta agree, sometimes I wonder if Volpe looked at them wrong or didnt sign a hat because theyll go off on Volpe harder than any player on the roster at times. Like that blown Clay save before the break where Clay walked two and gave up a hit and Verdugo didnt catch a 99% probability fly out. Volpe's error was "apparently" so much worse. I just uh...dont get what Volpe did to Jimmy and Jake.
I agree with him on Volpe, man. The kid is YOUNG and is barely hitting below the MLB average batting average and OPS lines at the worst offensive position (maybe besides 2B?) In baseball while playing exceptional defense. Plus, you saw how he hit the first 2 months. He is capable of being a good hitter and has shown it. I'd keep him out there another year or two. Hes not hurting the team IMO. Not everyone is Judge or Soto.
God bless Jimmy and Jake for actually taking Boone to task on critical issues with this team. No one asks Boone any questions that a fan plucked off the street couldn’t answer without any media training, which tells you exactly the issue on why Boone is still the manager of this team. You can go to bat all you want for your players, Aaron. But you won’t get any respect from the fan base when you can’t answer real questions. This is the accountability that Yankees fans look for. It reminds me of the 90’s-00’s media, where they actually got answers from players/managers.
Numbers Don’t Lie!!! In regards to Volpe! There’s nothing wrong with sitting there’s nothing wrong with you being sent down. It happens to every player. Sometimes it helps the player he’s been awful. I don’t care how old he is is up there and he’s hitting right now. He’s been hot. Give the kid rest at least he needs a blow. He’s not a big kid playing shortstop every day in the least it’s hard, if he’s tired, give him a blow. He’s awful at the plate. His ABs aren’t even competitive.
On the Weaver vs Holmes comparison, I’d say look at the difference compared to the difference in other teams between closer and setup guy. There’s still going to be an element of people swinging harder at the closer even with Clay, but if the difference is less between Weaver and Clay than the rest, then it proves Jimmy’s point. Could be an awesome video for Jimmy’s 3 things
I think he's absolutely right on Volpe defensively, he's the best they have but he said Not too long ago that he wasn't worried about how volpe is taking the slump and that worries me because I work with people slightly younger and of his age, and he is a workhorse almost to an obsessive level and a 23-year-old male with that mentality is going to hate himself for his offensive issues but bury it down and it's just going to get worse... He needs a day or two off to reset and actually get out of his head because the guy has been in all but one game this year (which he missed from ill was from doing extra baseball work in Mexico City) and I'm pretty sure every game last year and he's just freshly 23... His offensive issues are absolutely fixable but if he just keeps going with no rest and no chance to get out of his head and work on it He's going to run into a wall and it's not going to be pretty. I love Volpe and truly believe that he is destined to be a very good player and he seems like a good kid but I think everyone except for the people who can do something about it can see that he is drowning in the deep end and just need someone to pull them out of the water and help get him back where his feet touch.
Can you guys get Katie Sharp a decent microphone? The audio quality through a voicemail can get hard to hear sometimes. Especially when the audio gets recompressed on TH-cam further garbling the already low phone quality audio. If she can just send you an audio file, it would be a nice improvement.
They should have asked him specifically about the sinkers Holmes leaves up, like he did two nights ago, which became a double. Yes, Clay’s had had some unlucky nights, but it’s not all bad luck.
Why is Boone always defending Holmes! He doesn’t defend his position well! He has not been consistent all year except in blowing saves. Boone and Holmes are going to help the team lose. This man and the way he manages this team is infuriating!
Only in 2024 is this conversation possible. Boone was 100% correct about Volpe. The team's in first place and has the most or second most wins of any team throughout the year
Boone was 100% right. Only SS Yankees could have had that is better is Seager, which we all think they should have signed him, but that's not Boone's fault. He's the 7th most valuable shortstop this year. (but yes, because of defense)
Volpe is the Anointed One. The Yankees will defend Volpe until it's too late. Volpe will probably end up being a player like IKF. He's not the next Jeter, no matter how desperately the Yankees want him to be.
@@Tomtomxyz26 Gold Gloves are meaningless awards. And all I remember is how I kept hearing Peraza is a much better defensive SS than Volpe. Volpe is vastly overrated. The Yankees anointed him SS because they desperately want him to be the next Derek Jeter, mostly because of marketability.
Jeter was Jeter in his rookie season. We’re 2 seasons in with Volpe and he’s not half the player Jeter was and that includes Volpe being better defensively.
Absolutely hilarious how Boone goes from blowing up at the idea of giving Volpe time off, to cheerfully agreeing about how much he likes giving the double off-day to someone like Verdugo. This is part of Jimmy's whole point (not just in this interview) about why do they treat Volpe so differently? How come he's the one guy they trot out there every single day without exception, even when he's clearly lost at the plate and looks like he could use a mental break. It can't just be because of the defense. Guys like Oswaldo or Peraza can certainly cover a game or two at short. It's not like there's no backup.
@@cliftonbennett6420 Yup, fielding ground balls where he does on the diamond is a very difficult skill that can prevent a lot of runs if you're good enough at it. It's not just ground balls btw, lots of line drives go to the SS too.

Before we start singing the praises for Chisolm.. remember he called out a well-liked well-respected veteran baseball player for helping a younger player.. the manner in how he did it made him a hypocrite. 'Don't tell someone else what to do.. we can do whatever we want.' telling someone not to do something at the same time telling them you can do whatever you want is hypocrisy!
Since we do we write off players that are only 22 in their second year? Maybe if the league and the fans didn’t put so much pressure on these guys to be superstars right out of the gate we’d see the full potential a lot sooner of young players! Some guys are studs and some guys develop into studs
As a Jays fan, the Volpe thing feels similar to what I feel with Daulton Varsho. Best defensive outfielder in baseball by far, but at the same time is just so below average offensively that it almost makes you feel like he is still a net negative based on what the team needs. Both play premium defensive positions tho so from a team standpoint, i see why it would be hard to criticize them for it. But the difference is that the Yankees have more players who should be getting shit for not hitting before you get to Volpe. Verdugo, Grisham, DJ, Rizzo (when healthy), Gleyber, and even Stanton are all more pressing offensive concerns. It should be on those guys to meet their standards more than it should be on an elite defensive SS who’s 23.
Agree 💯 about Volpe he’s here to stay and should be! The Kid has played in every game but one since the season started. Yes he is in a slump and it’s not the first time but his batting average is still third after Judge and Soto of starters from day one…his defense is still saving games and the relay he made from Judge to home plate for the out Sunday night is what made that out
Y’all coping about Volpe. He isn’t what he was hyped up to be. Number 1 prospect and hyped him up and we’re supposed to be okay with good defense?? Hell no. Nope. Not taking it.

Don’t pretend he’s something he isn’t. Look at the numbers, Boone.
He said best defensive SS. Which he's still wrong about but volpe is 4th in both oaa and fangraphs def score, so only 3 are above him.
@@jackiepascucci6766 I think he meant defensive shortstop then, since they were talking about defense there.
Yankees fans and humility go together like fire and water
i’m always amazed where jake’s questions start versus where they end up. a real wild ride.
i know everyone is against boone here, but i think it was pretty cool to see how much he has his guys back
I couldn’t click faster
Bravo jimmy finally asking the tough questions much respect 🫡
If only he got that mad when Holmes blows a save. Or when Gleyber does dumb shit day in and day out
Gleyber has been doing well for a while now. You should stop with the hate a little bit. There are other players hurting the team more.
@Alex-dl6it you're right! He only got benched for boonehead plays
i thought given the “explosion” both sides handled the convo very well. love the push back on boone and i understand a lot of his answers
Ahhh I’ve been waiting for the latest boone interview, the title pumped me up
This is even better now 🤣
Clay Holmes CANNOT be our closer anymore.
If he didn't walk so many a lot of of those ground balls that sneak through wouldn't really hurt as much
After Sunday's loss at the LLWS, we knew Bantering with Boone was going to be intense
One of the best Boone interviews you guys have had I know it can be semi uncomfortable but I like how you guys held onto a good question if he disagrees that's fine but you made great points 22 we were completely unprepared cause we didn't use Sept fpr putting guys in new positions
Reporter: "Clay blew his league leading 10th save last night"
Boone: "He looks fine"
Jimmy "Volpe has been terrible offensively"
Boone: "DON'T TALK ABOUT VOLPE, HE'S THE BEST SHORTSTOP IN THE LEAGUE"
Boone is cooked.
Nah, they'll get bounced early in October and Hal and Cashman will consider it a successful season. Boones going nowhere
@@moelarry8088 lol and I thought you were going to say top 10 in bWAR. But top 50 makes sense. By the end of September he’ll probably be in the top 100 in bWAR. But hey he’s got to be top at something. lol. 😂
19:18 Jake after one of his winding oratories that eventually often might even resolve into a perceptible question: “we don’t have to get into the Volpe thing now”. Boone thinking “Oh crap we’re going into the Volpe thing again “
Great show. Thanks for asking tough questions and not just kissing ass. Credit to Aaron for doing this
Volpe’s defense is so good he’s allowed to be bad offensively for 2+ years.
Peraza’s defense is even better yet he’s not allowed to struggle offensively.
exactly. they don’t let peraza and cabrera play even though they aren’t any worse than he is as a hitter
@@jackharrist1078 but Volpe is a local kid and had an amazing spring training! He’s destined to be a superstar! He works so hard!
It’s because people expect him to turn into next jeter and that’s not happening 😂
Except volpe won a gold glove and is an elite defender in the big leagues
@@adamdeforge6884 that doesn’t matter when the other guy has better defense and hits better😂
Great question Jake on the defensive position with Clay pitching.
I've learned that when Boone gets angry about a subject it means he agrees but cannot say so.
you're better than his comment, faeou. need you to start banning the vocal minority of psychos in Jomboy's audience that wants jimmy and jake to be even more pissy and antagonistic in these interviews. this was brutal.
I mean Volpe has a 3.1 fwar lol. I'm a Guardians fan would love to have this
Same man Schneeman freeman or rocchio is not the answer right now would love to see bazzana get fast traced to the bigs and love gime to ss maybe
He’s a great defender but trust me, watch him hit every day and you’ll see what we’re saying
But Volpe for almost 2 years are as following
227 avg (below the shit league average) 290 OBP 383 slug 673 ops 84 OPS+ (league avg is 100)
291 strikeouts over 283 career games.
@@iamhollywood555 he has a 92 wrc+. with his outstanding glove that's playable. I get the frustration tho
It's been abysmal for 2 months now and since Cashman is too limp wristed to add to the roster financially, then Boone needs to light a fire under them like Billy Martin (yes I mention a loved coach with pretty bad rosters for a reason) would've
You may not want to hear it but Torres has been good offensively for at least a month +
Wells has been great
I really dig how Jimmy jabs him with the analytical proof that a guy sucks and he can't answer.
and you think Boone would ever admit publicly that one of his players sucks?

No
He had to stand up for his guy...it was obvious, and probably the right call, because it's likely Volpe has support and patience up the chain.
Bro when u rattle it off like that. Yikes!! Talk Ur Shit… Last Few Days Have Been Rough
Among SS's Volpe is tied for 3rd WORST in OBP (the thing that was supposed to be his strength & calling card); and 5th worst (by 0.001) in Batting Average
The "League" means AL, so remove all your NL comps please....!!
He has improved on offense yes. I would give him another year but he’s still not good on offense yet.
What drugs are you on? I'd love some.
I love that Boone wasn’t on board with the usual hate on volpe from Jake and Jimmy ….
Volpe simply can't hit. Incredibly overrated.
Keeping Boone's feet to the fire. Good work gents! 🔥
Jumping the gun on playoff talk with this team
I agree with him on Volpe, man. The kid is YOUNG and is barely hitting below the MLB average batting average and OPS lines at the worst offensive position (maybe besides 2B?) In baseball while playing exceptional defense. Plus, you saw how he hit the first 2 months. He is capable of being a good hitter and has shown it. I'd keep him out there another year or two. Hes not hurting the team IMO. Not everyone is Judge or Soto.
Need jimmy and Jake in full pinstriped button up, pants, yankee belt, hat and cleats to the office for the next bantering with Boone.
* Peraza is hot…
* playing SS in the AL EAST…
On the Weaver vs Holmes comparison, I’d say look at the difference compared to the difference in other teams between closer and setup guy. There’s still going to be an element of people swinging harder at the closer even with Clay, but if the difference is less between Weaver and Clay than the rest, then it proves Jimmy’s point. Could be an awesome video for Jimmy’s 3 things
"Roosters come to noost... that's not the saying"
Never saw Jake whip out the puppet before. Great work there
"C'mon, Man"-Aaron Boone

"It's right there in front of us."
Top 2 Booneyisms
Going against the grain, but I actually like Boone on here. He actually shows life and character instead of the analytical robot he is everywhere else
Boone is awesome!!!! He’s getting loud because he cares!
Can you guys get Katie Sharp a decent microphone? The audio quality through a voicemail can get hard to hear sometimes. Especially when the audio gets recompressed on TH-cam further garbling the already low phone quality audio. If she can just send you an audio file, it would be a nice improvement.
“I can’t say ‘stop it’s too if I want” lol
He doesn’t need to be Jeter. He’s a GG SS
@@Tomtomxyz26Defense is overrated. Hitting is WAYYYY more important. You just need to be ok defensively and the offense should be more than enough.

Backpedaling on gleyber by Jimmy was crazy
Cabrera has been great defensively when he gets a chance 2 play.
Respect to jomboy for not just shutting down and actually saying nahh I don’t agree lol
What’s annoying is how bad Volpe is but gets multiple years to prove himself while our other top prospects never get a chance to play
yeah, what a horrible player on pace for 3.8 fwar (league average is 2). Yall really don't have a clue what you're talking about.

Boone got his feewings hurt when you talk about volpe, boones golden boy
Before we start singing the praises for Chisolm.. remember he called out a well-liked well-respected veteran baseball player for helping a younger player.. the manner in how he did it made him a hypocrite. 'Don't tell someone else what to do.. we can do whatever we want.' telling someone not to do something at the same time telling them you can do whatever you want is hypocrisy!
This adds to the narrative about us as fans, we complain about dumb shit.
Since we do we write off players that are only 22 in their second year? Maybe if the league and the fans didn’t put so much pressure on these guys to be superstars right out of the gate we’d see the full potential a lot sooner of young players! Some guys are studs and some guys develop into studs
BTW, Gleyber Torres, the guy most NYY "fans" love to hate, is on fire lately, even led off today's game with a hit
Why is Lemehieu still getting playing time?
Can’t wait for whoever the next manager is
As a Jays fan, the Volpe thing feels similar to what I feel with Daulton Varsho.
One thing about Boone is he rides for his players and I respect that a lot. As hard headed as he might be…
Totally disagree if he rides his players what about wells ?
not a Boone defender but people need to relax until you're in his seat who are you to judge can he make better decisions sure but it's up to him.
Agree 💯 about Volpe he’s here to stay and should be! The Kid has played in every game but one since the season started. Yes he is in a slump and it’s not the first time but his batting average is still third after Judge and Soto of starters from day one…his defense is still saving games and the relay he made from Judge to home plate for the out Sunday night is what made that out
Fire Boone
Who should replace him ?
Yankees aren’t gonna win a world series with Boone just saying
I see the frustration with Volpe finally coming out. He has been a dissapointment after they passed on so many SS FA.
Y’all coping about Volpe. He isn’t what he was hyped up to be. Number 1 prospect and hyped him up and we’re supposed to be okay with good defense?? Hell no. Nope. Not taking it.
