ON and off Starcraft players since 1998 here. I haven't watched a game like this in years, and after stumbling on this video and being reminded how exciting this game is, I'm re-installing SC2 and looking forward to jumping back into one of the greatest video games ever made. Thanks LowkoTV great commentary.
I still remember a recent game with ByuN vs Reynor. ByuN dropped 14 mules on a new base. That's right, fourteen. Reynor saw it happen and gg'd immediately. That was the funniest moment of 2023 so far.
@@chaslyndrilling7380 it was PiG casts vid from 2 weeks ago. Reynor vs ByuN: ACTION-PACKED SERIES | Red Cross Cup (Bo5 ZvT) - StarCraft 2. Happens at 44:59. You can see Reynors overlord passing by and even PiG can't believe it. I'd also recommend watching at 9:27 where ByuNs micro is unbelievable with a pack of marines against zerg ling, bane, hydra on both sides.
There was a time in which TvT usually meant one hour and a half of siege tank vs siege tank or bio ball vs bio ball but I'm glad to see that with the last expansion things have changed a lot.
i’ll give you that this match in particular was actually engaging, but most TvT is still like 30mins-hour of siege tanking, libs, and vikings, with each player just sitting there waiting for the other to make a game ending mistake feels like there is very little to no agency in TvT, from a spectator perspective
@@benjamindeh873 i don't get why it's so hated that's one of the most fun parts about it. Other matchups if you fall behind as Terran you just get amoved but tvt if you're skilled enough you can almost always come back and outplay your opponent
i prefer non same matchups, and find it hard to watch same race matches. That being said, i was just agonizing about it when Lowko mentioned my exact thoughts and made me laugh about it, like he was reading my mind. and as requested i HAD to hit that "LIKE" button after that second :P
Wow you would think when Byun had that lead he was going to finish the game. One wrong move made him drop 50 army supply real quick, and in that moment Maru had the game.
@@popkhorne5372 nah not even, He ran his marines into sieged tanks to take them out and looses 50 marines in the matter of a second. All stimmed and half health. If he were to have used half of his marines to shoot the other marines, and the other half to take out the tanks he would of done it, but he F2 all of them into the tanks, so most of the marines weren't firing and were just looking to take position.
i think what makes mirror matchups (TvT esp.) boring is that they’re the same basically every time every TvT game boils down to the same unit comps (vikings/libs/sieges/marines/2 ravens), and last for like 30 minutes, all for the same outcome: whoever makes the first mistake, loses. both players spend 30mims staring at each other, killing a tank or two, until one of them messes up (i.e. Maru’s mispathing on the IEM finals vs Oliveira) i say this as someone who has never played a single game of SC2, but loves to watch it
Man, I hadn't watched SC2 in a while and TvT nowadays feels like how ZvZ used to feel. Hyper aggression, intense small army micro, reversals and counters and counter-counters, struggling to even get out of your base sometimes.
I keep thinking these act like actual armies with units independently moving of their own accord, not 2 people making them move by mouse & keyboard. Crazy the skills of these 2
TvT is easily the most entertaining mirror matchup. ZvZ is cool with a bunch of infestors and good fungals, PvP is only cool with whacky builds with Void Rays and High Templar
Mhmm, just a personal view here. I think ByuN spent a lot of his focus pulling the micro in game 1. He was in disadvantage, yet his play was fierce to the point of being scary even. Still it costs him, around the 26th minute mark it seems like he started to slow down, getting sloppy and such. Amazing game indeed. Thanks Lowko ✌
I'm by no means a good sc2 player, but this single video makes me glad that I'm a protoss player because I'll never end up in a terran v terran game hahaha
Wouldn't 1 or 2 Cyclones be enough to deter Liberators from harassing tanks? I don't play this game but everytime I see TvT when someone loses the air battle suddenly Liberators get free reign and the opponent can't seem to build enough Vikings to both defeat the Liberators and Vikings, so I was thinking at this point Cyclones could be the better choice instead, or is there a reason why they won't build them?
Great game but I'm part of the majority that thinks mirror matchups are generally worse to watch. Seeing 2 players building largely the same units and just trying for minor positional / micro advantages just isn't very exciting for me. The insane skill required to pull it off against probably the #1 and #2 terrans in the world is beautiful to watch though.
pro players and then got me over here trying to keep up just by watching XD they are so quick lol if I played one of them I'd be lucky if I lived till 4 minutes XD
In the group stage they had about three or four matches being played simultaneously. A single caster could thus only watch/commentate 1/4 to 1/3 of the group stage games live.
mirror match ups are boring as F. i wish blizzard would just get off their ass and make some more races for ppl to play but they cant even balance the game around 3 races so thats impossible
I mean... It's been like two months since my last 'game of the year', sooo...
You know what, i'll allow it
I wouldn't mind game of the year every week
Just write "game of the year #2" brother
There should at least be 3 games of the year though right?
You need to start saying Game of the Decade.

17:00 "The marines don't have carapace upgrades" I wouldn't be too sure about that. I'm pretty sure I saw Rambo use the 'burrow' mechanic once.
The fact that he never gets it either has my heart crying out in pain
Maru Vs Byun? Hell, it's about time.
its about damn time
It's about Oliveira.
@@IAmBael haha I get it
TvT is so entertaining to watch at high level!
Awesome match!

@@inmanis2924 Well, at the top level the micro between said units are fantastic and a sight to behold, not so much sitting there
It is horrendous to play at any level tho. You can be at a huge advantage to your opponent and still spend 30 minutes dismantling them safely.

Blows my mind that years later, SC2 still has some of the most watchable competitive experience out there
damn, what close games, that 1st one especially
gj all around
A challenging cast Lowko - these guys are crazy fast. Great job!
The apm on these two are insane
Ah yes, the new game of the year! It's been 2 days since the last one so I have been already missing the next goty.
Thanks for all the videos! Really enjoying them :)
Byun forgetting level 3 armor absolutely cost him that game.
Wow. These 2 are crazy good.
U see the words Maru and ByuN and u start to SHAKE!!!!!

Thumbnail : OH GOD THIS SHIT IS INSANE, HE'LL STIM TO 69 TANKS
23:05 : nope not even a noteworthy reaction from lowko
I feel damn cheatef
lowko always make a point about the combat shield in the backpack of a jimmy marine
Lowko would you please put out a list of what games you cast during IEM Katowice?
Wow you would think when Byun had that lead he was going to finish the game. One wrong move made him drop 50 army supply real quick, and in that moment Maru had the game.
You could argue its the upgrades he lacked.

True. PvP and ZvZ are at least more dynamic.
2 of my favor sc2 players 1 great match.

ahhh, this is going to be a good game!
Great game 1, although BuyN forgot to get armor level 3, still impressive that he almost won
Really good game, the second half of the game i screaming for him to put a viking in his medivac group, the liberators controlled those standoffs.
Thanks for doing the mirror matchups, don't deny us these just because it doesn't make money. Thanks again.
Love these casts!
This was just the game! GG Well Casted! OMG when SC2 gets to the very top, is another beast altogheter
Dark vs Creator game 7 is game of the year.
Please, note how many games of the year Lowko give us in a month xdJust kidding, nice replays :3
I keep thinking these act like actual armies with units independently moving of their own accord, not 2 people making them move by mouse & keyboard. Crazy the skills of these 2
Ngl as a viewer I definitely watch waaaay less mirror matches than non.
But gj you baited me into watching one with the title.
TvT is easily the most entertaining mirror matchup.
ZvZ is cool with a bunch of infestors and good fungals, PvP is only cool with whacky builds with Void Rays and High Templar
I try to watch every terrin video, when I play sc2 I play terrin. Watch terrin vs zerg at pro lvl looked so hopeless but they have turned it around
Damn, I’m in the middle of class - I’mma watch this godsend later
full action games maru and byun never disappoint
I miss zerg mirror matches, those gave me anxiety attacks

would have been a lot different on the first game if byun got that last armor up
That first game was awesome
Whooo lowko!!! Love you bro
Epic, great show.
siege tank in reeeeeed is dancing with me, cheek to cheek....
Go back to 2022 and rank all your “game of the year” games. Would be super awesome to see your reflection!

While this game was great, I hope it'll be surpassed by many others in 2023 :)
After olivera won the iemkawince , it is number 2 vs number 3
I personally don't hate mirrors. What I do hate is TvP. Now that's a snoozefest and a half.
how many game of the year will be this year casted here? :-D
Maru vs Byun already titel of the year😃
Honestly… it’s like you’re not even trying to say ‘doooooooo’ anymore :(
Terran everywhere.
Terran Conglomerate internal conflict?
ByuN ByuN ByuN🥶🥶🥶
Super nice Game, thanks for that.
I hope one noob question is ok :-).
Can your Opponent see your Scans?
Have a nice day
yeah, they can if they focus their camera to your scan location
hiding your scans would be OP
NICE

Still, Maru indeed the best terran player yet so far..
gg (I love tvt)
interesting match, always downvote a maru win though
It's February, how can you call it a game of the year?
How the hell you manage to not watch all these games and not knowing the results being in the casting crew?? xDDDD Sometimes I think... lol

Purified drinking water.
Dear Lowko, congrats for being a caster on katowice 2023 (sry for being late, being really busy since last year so i didn't catch-up.)

Ah yes, the bi-weekly game of the year

TvT,ZvZ,PvP ...nothing more boring like this... -__-
Lowko, this video was posted from many other and more professional Kommentators before! With the same title! Stop copy and paste, it’s really boring!
