This tournament was a lot of fun! But the setup took a while because of some waitlist issues. I piloted a articuno ex starmie ex greninja list, it was Swiss and I lost while I was 4-1 to the second place guy, just 1 win away from top 8 in the final round of Swiss 😅
Yeah, so the first tournament with a reasonable size, proves that the hysteria around some of the cards was unjustified (as predicted by anyone with actual experience in TCGs and a bit of common sense). I.E.: Misty is not a problem, consistency is king, and last but not least...we've told everyone so.
I never understood how People freak out about misty, imo the problem is not the card itself the problem is you can use a support like misty and attack turn 1 if you luck
@@ArthurLorensen exactly, removing the ability to attack turn 1 would solve it. Playing the Supporter, as opposed to not being able on the actual TCG I think is still necessary though.
Lol, I have not seen all the decks, but that waters deck is all over the place, you dont need that many basics thats why 2 articunos and 1 staryu is much much consistent. Ive been using that deck and mewtwo deck for this week and I can tell you I have won more games with misty than mewtwo
Its quite interesting for a card game with fairly few cards, and fairly so far simple mechanics to have a tournament with such diverse deck lists! - that is truly awesome and is making me very excited for the future of this game, I really hope they push the competitive side a bit, would love to see this at regionals and worlds. While I am expecting there to be more standardized deck list when the game has been going longer, still I have been surprised by the creativity of deck building so far, and I cant wait to get into the game and start building myself and hopefully, dominate these fan tournaments! - I already have plenty of ideas to try out.
Dang. I knew electrode was good. That is card for card the list I’ve been using for 2nd place. Electrode is basically two more copies of x speed in my eyes. Plus 70 damage for 2 energy is pretty good. Only thing is I’ve only got the one Giovanni so I want to play the 2nd one over the red card. Wild that list got to 2nd place
I only play red cards in tournaments. They are a lot better here, even if you don't use them. Since we played that tournament with an open deck lists you could always see if a opponent played a red card in deck or not. If my opponent doesn't play a red card, I can just freely use all of my draw support, thinning my deck out, and increasing my chance to draw what I want. If my opponent does play a red card, I need to be a bit more careful with my draw support. I can't just play my Oak, because I might need him later after getting red carded. And maybe I need to keep my Pokeball for another time. Inceasing my chance to not draw what I want. So red card wins in the deck list, not in the actual game.
In general it's cuz it's like a 1mon deck. You play moltres to beef up your backline hoping for charizard - but by the time you get there it's fairly likely your moltres will be dead or near dead. And with 3 mons VS 1 Charizard - that's a matchup I'd take any day. Mind you, even getting that Charizard out aint the most consistent thing in the world, and with stuff like sabrina, there's always a chance you'll start getting beat on before you can evolve or get ramped up. - I've had some matches where I don't have to even face the Charizard, just kill the moltres, and sabrina in something else for the win. Ultimately anything with Charizard is just going to be a less reliable mewtwo deck. MewTwo can't highroll as hard, but it can more flexibly react to practically anything, at least in comparison.
Pika BDIF with runners up of gardi and staryu/articuno, followed by the charizard deck. Sounds pretty unsurprising. The hype around zard is overblown, water is good but misty isn't consistent, And pika was always gonna be really good although I'm a tad surprised it pulled ahead of other decks
I think the top deck would still be better with 2 sabrinas instead of the red card, red card simply isnt good enough in this meta. either it would need to shuffle and draw 1 or 2, or would only be good in a meta where meowth and other draw is prevalent
Not exactly. Electric and water decks will be played mostly, they tend to have less retreat cost and majority brought 2 XSpeed, so Sabrina could be easily countered. 2 Prof Research and 2 Pokeballs are kind of a must now, it makes more sense to go for red card from that perspective for an attempt to slow them down.
@@thinkinginsideout4053 cause Articuno do 80 dmg plus 10 to bench at 3energy, starmie 90dmg 2 energy with starmie retreat cost nothing while u build Articuno and easily switch out and the big factor is misty if u get that flip right early start easily and dmg before your opponent , hence when i said it's a 90% win rate u don't always get that good start but if u do , u sure of a win most basic are low health besides from picka , starmie easy build and Articuno

Red cards are so situational, you need to be also paying attention to their hand
