I was there for the release, all the way back in 1997. FF7 was my introduction to RPG's and it literally changed my life. Before that, I was playing 2D games on the NES/SNES. Imagine how crazy it was to witness the jump to 3D on home consoles in real time. Crazy times indeed.

Same here. I had no idea what an RPG was. It got me to buy a Playstation. 23 years later, the remake single-handedly got me back into gaming, when I went out and bought a PS4 pro and LG TV. I haven't looked back since.

@@JVision1 uhmm nowadays, I guess yeah I do. But, I still have my old PS1 and PS2 memory cards that have my original save files from games like FFVII, Star Ocean Second Story, Xenogears etc. So before games started getting ported over I would just hop on my PS2 and see all the memories.
My favorite game of all time since 1997. My love has only grown since then and I have talked about this, game with my friends all of the last 27 years, thought about it almost every day. The story, characters and world are just so fantastic in this game. A piece of art and timeless! ❤️
My hype train started after that teaser trailer at E3 and it hasn't stopped since.
I asked my dad to rent me FF8 back in the day, he brought home 7, wasn’t disappointed got all the was to the Midgar serpent, game was always stuck in my mind till my best friend and I ended playing it together soon after and loved every moment that game is my childhood, it’s perfect
I remember RENTING this game with my best friend after school. He hated the turn base combat. I fell in love with the story and soundtrack 🎶
I rented it at a friends too. I didn't have a Playstation at the time, and we had no idea what an RPG even was. We were thumbing through the instruction manual picking out which character was our favorite, and who we wanted to play as, if it were like a fighting game. He didn't care for it, while I immediately ran home and begged my parents for a PS1. Still my favorite game of all time. I'm loving the remake too. I think most of us are so hyped we're just scanning the internet for anything FF7 related at this point.

Great video. It's also worth mentioning the novel Traces Of Two Pasts, penned by Nojima. In the same way that On The Way To A Smile led into Advent Children, Two Pasts is a transition between Remake and Rebirth. The book focuses on Aerith and Tifa and their personal histories. I'm a little way into it and it seems great so far.
Two Pasts also includes an additional short story, Picturing the Past, diving deeper into Aerith's past. As far as I'm aware, all of this is considered canon for the Remake trilogy- I'm sure its not essential, but I'm loving the extra context I've gained for certain characters.
FFVII is one of those games that you can say with confidence that truly changed the industry! Oh, to be there when the OG was being released.
At the time when I first played it in 1997, I had no idea how much this was going to affect me. One of the greatest games I’ve ever played. The fact that it’s rereleased now is really amazing and holds a special place in my heart. FF7!!
I remember the first time I bought the original Final Fantasy 7 for PlayStation one. It was the greatest hits and I got it for like $20, and when I showed it to my brother and his friend they were like dude you got a good game right here
The Gamespot website in the late 90s and early 2000s was a huge reason why I got into FF7 in the first place. So rad that this video is on their channel.

What a special game. This game changed my taste in gaming completely and i played it late in 2010. When i was 15.
But after playing ff7. Final fantasy became my favourite franchise.
this game is a Legend and many experience to become perfect look perfect gameplay for the future technology.

I hope that they put Maximilian_Dood into part 3 in a similar way Kson showed up in Like A Dragon Infinite Wealth! Seeing him in the game would be one of the absolute coolest things in the remake trilogy if they did that!

To me, FF7 is the greatest RPG/game I’ve ever played. Its story, characters and combat are nothing short of outstanding.
I used to rent a PS1 from a friend back in 97. I paid £3.50 a week😂. He owned FF7 but didn't have a memory card. I played the Midgar section a dozen times but always had to turn it off shortly after. I reached Kalm once!
Eventually I got my own and was blown away how big the world was.
The new games look great but deviate too much. Over the top filler and rewriting the core plot has spoiled it in my opinion.
If Square had made a built in mode to keep to the original, I'd be excited. But alas, they don't seem to care about the OG fans.

I still rewatch his theory crafting videos for rebirth and part 3, and will absolutely rewatch them even after playing rebirth. I always felt ashamed for my overly passionate behavior with movies games and trailer.. but seeing his passion for final fantasy 7 feels so incredibly validating and I feel a lot more comfortable being myself. I watch those videos not for any type of information but to just enjoy the joyful ramblings of a fan just like me. 😊

Yeah, I played 7 before Max did, actually lol. I’ve loved it since it released. I’d played other FF games before, but 7 was absolutely revolutionary at the time and blew my mind. It was a transformational experience in my life.
Honestly FF7 is a decent enough game but it mostly lives in the nostalgia centre of middle aged men brains and isn’t half as interesting or important as they’d like to think. It’s fine. I used to think it was the greatest game of all time when I was 12 but then I got some perspective and context.

My guess is the change will be that Sephiroth tricks Cloud into killing Aerith instead of doing the job himself.
I don't think so, but it's a strong theory.
my gripe with so many popular properties is the penchant for them to oversaturate the original work and confuse newcomers. they did it with Star Wars, and I worried that they would do it with VII. I stayed away from most of it thankfully and have been able to enjoy the remake on its own merits, but i hope people aren't turned away because of how much extra unnecessary baggage the series has. it's a classic for good reason.

Yuffies side story dlc was dope imo and made me appreciate her more as a character. Her side story in OG ff7 with wutai was sick too. But that’s just me
Lets all be honest with ourselves here. FF7 was legendary for its time but one year later Ocarina of time came. It had better gameplay and story. Also aged way better than FF7.

Square Enix has to be the most money hungry soulless publisher ever. The way they have gouged the FFVII and KH series is disgusting. They have made great games into convoluted messes in the pursuit of more finances. Scattering multiple different titles and stories across multiple game systems.
How much you want to bet the final dungeon will be dlc for part 3 😂 milk it and ruin the pacing

I think splitting the game in parts is just plain cash grab. I bought the remake thinking I’ll play the full ff7 in a better experience and I never played ff7 before but soon as I learned it’s just a portion of the game I was really disappointed, it’s best just to get the ps1 version imo

When they're spending hundreds of millions of dollars, 'cash grab' may be an exaggeration. But its a heavy exploitation of their properties, definitely.
They were upfront at many, many points that Remake covered the Midgar section only.

I think Sephiroth's is just as bad. So bland and dull sounding for such an iconic villain. Sephiroth is supposed to sound like Vegeta or Piccolo, not Pete Dorr.
