Back in the day I had to favorites on NBC Sports Bay Area, you and Baggs. Now that Baggs has moved on you stand alone. Since you started this TH-cam thing, I get a double dose of your work. Thanks
From what I understand, Matt, is the salary structure (dead cap money) makes it nearly cost prohibitive for the 49ers in releasing Deebo, Trent and Kittle. I just don’t see these three going anywhere.
Matt’s insights into 49er thinking is unmatched. My experience with takeovers of failed partnerships prejudiced me to leadership as being the most reliable route out of failed objectives. It’s important not to confuse leadership with energy and positive outlook. Simply, leaders need grit in face of adversity, that garners respect and the organization moves forward. 49ers loaded with high character guys who can make this happen. These social media salary negotiations pull in the wrong direction
No idea how the contract part of it works, but tried to say around game three that something is off with him. Wish I knew what it is. Nobody falls off a cliff like that without something happening. 👍🏼
Great video! I think Debo can get back to what he was, but he might need to be a Robin rather than Batman if that makes sense. I think he is great in space/against Zone but nobody emerged as a man beater this year to help him out.
@toddoien8936 the money has already been spent. Drafting and paying Trey Lance for 4 gamrs was a good way to destroy a roster too but you didn't care about that. That is where all the started from!
@@mattmaiocconfl there were 2 or 3 other plays this year that didn't count besides that one. They 49ers just always have penalties to go along with it!
Niners have to keep Deebo due to financials, and no one will take him due to those same financials and Deebo’s limitations as a player. The best thing that can happen to Deebo and the Niners is Aiyuk getting healthy and his head on straight. Aiyuk and Kittle have to be studs to open up opportunities from r Deebo.
If he's cut post Jun 1, they net 5.6 mil in 2025 AND 22.6 mil in 2026. He's only signed through 2025. The 22.6 mil becomes dead cap. So, yes you do cut him but post Jun 1 2025. No way he's worth 38 mil next year in production.
All that money is paid, so it will all count against the cap eventually. In real money, it would cost the 49ers only $2 million to have him on the team next season.
@mattmaiocconfl Matt you're Bay Area local so that gives you a closer perspective. I'll take your reporting as factual. But check what Graziano ESPN said. He says it's not paid out and team saves 38 mil over 2 years post Jun 1 cut.
@@mattmaiocconfl sorry, 5.6 mil in 2025 saving in cap space and 22.5 mil in 2026, totalling 27 mil not 38. If he's not cut he counts 16 mil against the cap in 2025, and 22.5 in 2026 totaling 38 mil, according to Graziano.
According to Spotrac, it appears that Deebo has a cap hit of $20M in 2025, which is ridiculous for a gadet player. He can't beat Man Coverage. He can't provide Pass Protection as a RB. Doesn't seem to recognize when he's the Hot on a blitz. Doesn't bother to watch film of other WRs, because " Noone does what he does." Good riddance to Deebo.
Yes, I see an inaccuracy. Spotrac has his base salary at $16M, while OverTheCap has it at $1.17M. That's a huge difference, and that's a big deal as far as his future with the club.
I don't generally like or respect Kyle for a myriad of reasons but I do respect the things I heard from him after the game and I hope he can figure it out and do some soul searching before next season and grow up a bit. He's like 2-3 yrs younger than me but acts half of that (being generous). he called a good game and managed it well for one of the few times I can remember. Good OC, a lot to be desired in a HC though.
All this tells me is deebo is going to hold out in the offseason for more guaranteed money. Call it “security” like Trent did… another bullshit contract dispute next year.
@@mattmaiocconfl I hope you’re right. You did say they have no choice to keep him bc of the BA situation. Maybe he takes advantage of that? Idk. I’ll take your word for it Matt. great show by the way!
I agree he is definitely a niner next year and it wont cost us much on the books so there's not a reason why he's not on the team and yes we need him. Everyone is having a down year this year

Agree! Matt's insightful content is not reactive but perceptive, with many years of experience.

Hey Matt
Quick question…..
Who gets to seat on those red sofas by the in zone at Levi’s stadium
Dig your groovy Niner shrine!!

true
Deebo had made plays, they just got called back!
Yes, he had that big return against the Packers, which a referenced, that was called back due to a phantom holding penalty.
$20M for a kick returner? Good way to ruin a roster.

not nearly enough impact to justify his touches or $$$
I don't think Deebo is going anywhere. Hargrave, on the other hand, there will be a pretty high chance to be released.
I agree, but I think they'll do with Hargrave what they did with Armstead and Juszczyk. Here's our offer: Take it or leave it.
@@mattmaiocconfl I agree
both! I'd at least consider shopping Bosa too (he's too much and doesn't impact the game nearly enough for $34M/yr)
