I remember doing this 40 years ago on my XL185S, a lovely trail. I've just bought a CRF300 and plan to do it again. Much easier than Gatesgarth and Garburn.
Trouble is I'm 70 now, but I'm sure I'll manage! 👍

Hi Simon, not far off the lakes, just west of Carlisle on the Solway, so The Old Coach road is not so far away👍

This place is one old pass people got killed here people would come from Scotland through to England over kirkstone pass

@SIMONB1 not yet I've been on a few more lanes to get some practice that was one of the 1st lanes I tried. Planning on a lakes trip in October so I'll be trying again I've got some better tyres and a bit more confidence now

I'm looking into trail riding and living in Penrith, its handy this road is nearby. I've been studying the OS maps and can understand the legend for this type of trail as apposed to the BOATS. Very useful vid 👍

@SIMONB1 started at Matterdale End (the nice bit) and ended up at the quarry end. No time for practice though, just straight in! Wouldn't have liked to do it the other way round though, not on those bikes at least.

Is it an novice friendly lane or should I avoid trying to find it

Hey up guyonacub, it's years of practice that makes it look easy 🤔, yes the road is open all year, yes I think it's manageable for a novice, it's just one bit that's a bit tricky, but just look ahead and keep momentum, give it a try 😁, ride safe Simon B 😎

I had a go at this route in March (approximately) this year but I started from the opposite end to your video. I couldn't get it up, so to speak 😂so gave it up as a bad job. Was I by any chance one of the two riders you referenced in your video or are there three of us? 👍

@@SIMONB1 I'm a long way from being in your league but yes one day soon we will have to get out and share a ride. I'm going to start using my 350 more for off road stuff it's been stuck in the garage since April and only been out once since I bought it! 😳
@@SIMONB1 Right you’ve convinced me, I’m heading up here tomorrow morning and I’ll be starting from Dockray side so that I can leave the car and trailer in the car park. Plan is to do it in both directions and have a good play on it and try to overcome my anxiety re those rocks at the end. Nice wee lane that Si. I'd have been effin too, muppet driver. Not sure if you edited it, but it rent from rant to calm instantly!! And have you thought about a helmet with a visor? Been riding off road forever and just bought a Klim Krios Pro, a game changer. The LS2 Explorer is a good cheaper option. Rubber down 👍

Cars passing bikes is a big one where I live. No matter what is oncoming they just have to do it, head on into traffic or on blind corners.

Tempting but on a F850 GS with road tyres, not sure I'd get away with it 😭

He wasn't overtaking on a corner....He moved over for cycle and didn't cross the white line either. You had lots of space. 😮
You are wrong he shouldn’t had passed the cyclist on a blind corner
I have to disagree, you haven't taken in account the wide angle of the GoPro, the car is closer than it looks I come round the apex of the bend and have a car overtaking a cycle 20 feet in front of me😲, also when he passes me his off side wheels are stil over the white lines, there wasn't enough room to give way for the cycle and for oncoming traffic, if I was a car there probably would if been a collision 💥, ride safe Simon B 👍

There are hazard lines on the road to indicate it's properly not safe to over take inpatient drivers.
