      @hellfish2309 exactly! It feels like all the others are growing and evolving and he's staying stuck. It's heartbreaking to see. It's such a wonderful show. Though I know many didn't like season 3. I think that it gives us a deeper look at how others evolved, and Carmy is still trapped.

      Feel like this is the exact opposite of the case. THEY all feel like Carmy's unhinged, he feels like he's better and the restaurant's getting better because he's returning to what he knows. They were all looking at him and his non-negotiables like he was having a nervous breakdown, especially Sydney and Nat. He was so adamant about it because he knows it's not ridiculous- he's done it all before and knows they haven't so he's laying it into them. And with that conversation with Marcus at the end, that was kind of like final confirmation to him that he's doing the "right" thing- whether he is or not. "Just get us there, Bear." was the first sign of validation from one of the crew that Carmy might be onto something.

    Interesting at 1:57, the first thing Carmy does to the menu is "subract"........Of all the amazing chefs Carmy learned from over the years (and featured in last episode), the one who taught him to "subtract" on the menu was the one from New York who drove him crazy.

  • @hellfish2309
    @hellfish2309 หลายเดือนก่อน +62

    Daily menu change isn’t crazy for a more established, larger staffed, better financed restaurant chasing Michelin but those places also have much much more storage and reliable supply and the menu changes in broadstrokes take implement a week out so the lines know how the workflow needs to adjust
    Plus Carmy knows there are restaurants that succeed without all this stunt hoop jumping: Carmy was going to take Syd to Kasama last season which is a real restaurant in Chicago that is about the same size as “The Bear” both in staff and scale that actually did win a Michelin star without a lot of these “non-negotiables”
    Carmy demanding The Bear pursue 3 star status is pretty aptly characterized by Richy: running away

    This episode felt like a summary of the dynamic of the group over the course of the show. In a way, we’re back to basics as if it’s a season 1 episode. But with a twist: Carmy is on the precipice of becoming a literal and actual psychopath with his obsession with perfection. A new menu every day?! I love this bear, and I’m proud of him for wanting to quit smoking, too, but… really??? I mean, that’s way too much, even for him, and he’s gone way too far. Anyway, here are the things I learned from this episode:
    - Everything is non-negotiable!
    - A light glitch = having a stroke (“Am I stroking” NEIL FAK OMFG HELP)
    - Getting fucked. Point blank.
    “Take us there, bear.” OKAY AND WHAT IF I JUST DIED RIGHT THEN AND THERE 😭❤️ (Marcus really is the heart of the group and is the calm after the storm. I freaking love him!)

    There’s no way possible Carmy intended to run The Bear like this. I feel like after he said what he said to Claire he subconsciously decided to put aside anything and everything that had to do with his friends and loved ones in order to get that Michelin star. Because if he doesn’t then he believes he gave up falling in love with Claire, and just genuinely being happy for nothing.

      Carmy is deliberate about how he wants to conduct the restaurant, but doesn’t know how to accept the responsibility and pressures of its life and death … in the broader context it’s supposed to confront the audience with the question of whether the restaurant industry at it’s “finest” should be operating this way

    Someone on tiktok made me realise how Sydney is part of the reason why Carmy is going a little crazy. He didn't want a star, he didn't want to focus on that because it would turn him into a monster but Syd convinced him and now he's turning into a monster.
    She also went on to talk about how Syd lacks accountability and she's impulsive but that's a conversation for another time 🥲.

    • @sammysam1040
      @sammysam1040 หลายเดือนก่อน +12

      I disagree with the TikTok person's view. Carmy is only turning into a "monster" now because he is upset about supposedly failing his team by not being there during Friends and Family night, and he doesn't know how to handle the Clare issue, so he is turning his focus to something that he thinks he can control to avoid having to deal with her or his own feelings and views about himself. He knows Syd wants a star, so he is using that desire to try to get her on board with his crazy changes. (However, I do agree that Syd often lacks accountability, and she is very impatient.)

      Bruh, have you seen how Carmy treats her, he straight up ignores her multiple times this season.
      He doesn’t want the star because Syd wanted it, I think you are misunderstanding his reason, he wants it because it’s his way of proving that his ‘psychopath’ way can lead to results because if not, why did he break up with Claire and gave up on love.
