One other thing you will need if you are on the canal in Birmingham: a weapon to defend yourself against the gangs that keep attacking people there.

we did the ride over two days and stayed the night in Milton keynes - we set of at 7am and did stops on the way collecting money - best of luck. most of the canals were brilliant just around Northampton it got tricky - over hanger stingers and narrow path, make sure your on a mountain bike wide tyres recommened

Hi can some one help me out plz I want to cycle to London from Birmingham city center
And want to do it in 3 days can some one help me out by letting me know where to stop to divide my journey in 3 days plz

Hey, I cycled the entire route from Birmingham to London (Paddington Basin) in two days.
      Day 1:
Arrived in Birmingham on a train at 07:00 and immediately went to Gas Street Basin to begin the long 140+ miles back.
Until Knowle, the towpath is pretty decent, with lots of tree cover. Between Knowle and Warrick/Leamington it’s pretty rough but still rideable.
After that, near Napton to Braunston the towpath is absolutely awful. I can’t emphasise how hard it is. But after that, it’s moderate into Milton Keynes, we arrived at about 20:00 (where I spent my first night in a premier inn).
      Day 2:
Left MK at 06:00 into the freezing morning air. As the fog was lifting off the canal we made some decent progress and soon arrived in Leighton Buzzard, towpath from that point on was flat grass. Easy to cycle on.
From Berkamsted to Watford the towpaths are very good. You will make great progress.
After Watford the towpaths become pretty rough again and continue until you come into Uxbridge (I arrived at about 16:00).
From Uxbridge to Paddington basin, the towpath is paved/gravel & if you have the energy, can get up some great speed/make up time. I arrived into Paddington at around 18:00? So a good 24 hours spent cycling over two days 👍
Tips from someone who’s done it:
      - Do it either Early May or Early September (the less people/moderate temperatures the better)
      - Hybrid bike at a minimum (guy I rode with did it on a road bike, almost ended up having to buy a wheelchair after)
      - Pannier/side bags for your stuff. First time I did it, I wore a backpack and threw out my back
      - take it easy. I made the mistake of setting targets/timings and when I missed those, tried to compensate, which made me tire faster.
Hit me up if you’re looking for someone to do it with :-)

@@skilledarma thank you so much I was thinking of doing in at the end of may or first week of June what would be the best way to break it up in 3 days like where to stay

    • @skilledarma
      @skilledarma 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@James-li7ke ill be doing it around the same time.
I’d suggest Birmingham to maybe Napton on the Hill or around there (lovely little villages, easily doable in 1 day)
Then Napton to Milton Keynes (plenty of premier inns etc) This would be the toughest part of the route so despite the short distance, it will take most of the day
Then Milton Keynes to London, which is a long ride but easy and scenic.
      Good luck!
