Hey, guys. Thank you all for supporting this video. By the suggestion of some commenters, I decided to change the title from "Worst to Best" to "Least Favorite to Favorite," because I don't want anyone to think that I'm the be-all-end-all authority on the quality of Persona games, especially when some of my opinions are unpopular. I couldn't say everything I wanted to about each game because I didn't want this video to be too long, so I'll probably make more videos going into more detail for each game in the future.
When it comes to unpopular Opnions let me drope one here. I am at the Persona 5 segment I have to Disagree with alot of things. First I dont found Morgana that annoying. His Navigator dialogue is repetitive and the part where he runs away makes no sense but I found it not that bad and it did not stop me from absolutely loving Morgana. I only played 2 Persona games until now (P5 and PQ) but Morgana has become my favourite companion in gaming and my second favourite mascot Character in fiction. I love him even more than Stich and Toothless. Also I never had a problem with Morgana telling Joker to go to sleep. Becuse of 3 reasons: 1. I never had not enough time to do what I want to do. 2. I value sleep in real live. And 3. becuse it did not bordered me my mind was not clouded by irritation so I could relize that Morgana is a little cat and could never force a big guy like Joker into anything. Joker is simply agreeing to Morganas suggestion. So the whole forcing Joker to sleep is nonsense. While I have no other Persona games to compare I found that the staat requiremeants where not that harsh. All in all the time management is very forgiving. If anything you could argue that its to easy and you have to much time. Not that I would want the time management to be harder but its easy enough fore me.
I played the portable version and from there you can control them. Although, I dont think it's directly stated, I fiddled with the interface and got that.
I feel like Persona 5 Royal was a big improvement over the original one. Even though it's mostly the same, they improved a lot of stuff. My favourite change is definitely that Morgana doesn't force you to sleep anymore lol
I mean it is a big improvement for sure, and the new content they added is generally of higher quality than the base game stuff, but P5 is still kind of a sloppy mess of a game. A well made sloppy mess that I greatly enjoy mind you, but a sloppy, bloated mess nonetheless
@@LongSinceDead1 also another thing is that it feels like it was purposely kept bad like in the case of Morgana and that giant skip during somewhere in the game to get you to pay for royal which kinda sucks
“I even played it in church” Atleast it wasn’t SMT “What game you playin?” “SMT IV” “What’s it about?” “I can choose to side with Satan or god and I chose Satan”
@@bangunny they only put smt in the name because smt was popular in the west so they wanted it to get more recognition. Also Persona 1 and persona 2 never had smt in the name till the remakes .
Having SMT in the title makes the franchise easier to understand since we never got all the titles. Also, it encourages fans to look for other "SMT" games. If Persona 5 had SMT in the title, there would be less people who refuse to play Megaten games besides Persona 5
Eikichi SSS-tier The best persona character, I’m not even kidding, he is my favourite of all time, akechi and aigis and Yu being in there, but eikichi easily takes the #1 spot, it really felt like outside of persona 4, there wasn’t anything to the characters besides their social link lol, I just liked persona 2’s cast the second I saw it
never played 1 and 2 but i only shed tears for 3.4 well yu is going home, but he can always go back there during holiday, the same can be said for ren.so there is nothing to cry for
I just want to say for all people who just tried persona 5 as a first persona game, please try P4 and P3 after that P2. I know the mechanism, gameplay, and art is not on the level of P5 but the story and characters is not gonna disappoint you
Don't know about Persona 2, but Persona 3 feels like such a grind with the way that Tartarus is structured. The characters are also a bit weaker than in the other games imo.
Persona 5 was my first persona game, I did eventually go back and play P4, P3, P2, and P1, and I gotta say, Persona 3 has quickly become my favorite in the series.
I don’t understand... those were like my 2 favorite character, and Yusuke was definitely nowhere near a favorite for me. I can understand disliking Mishima for his “childish” behavior, but at this point I’m convinced that people only hate Makoto because the rest of the fandom loves her, so they just have to feel different.
@@HopefulLass Japanese game with Japanese characters made by Japanese developers will always sound dumb and unfitting when characters speak English. I don't know how such a huge number of people swallows unfitting dubs as something normal, while Japanese people themselves go to cinemas and watch western movies with subtitles.
@@lemonov3031 You're not wrong, but how "unfitting" a dub is, is ultimately anyone's opinion. Three Houses has an amazing dub, but then again, the game isn't set in a japanese environement. Ultimately, the sub is always a "safe" option for me. No sub is going to be bad. But when I recognize the language, I also feel much better the emotions the actors are delivering. The words resonate with me because I hear them, not because I read them. But I have absolute respect for your way of thinking. It IS more logical to enjoy a product how it was first made. But my pov is not exactly logical, but more emotional, opinionated.
we need a remake of persona 3 with some stuff from persona 5, enhanced UI , stunning grafics, new events for social links, let the player chose the allies comands, and even let us use the famale protagonist from P3P , bruh, they already made the characters models for the dancing games, they could make a decent use of them
If you ask me games like Persona 2,3,4 don't need remakes . I feel like a game or a franchise only needs a remake or remaster when 1.) The game is TOO dated and old to be enjoyable and if remake it would bring something forward towards the table (E.g remasters of older games like Resident Evil 1 . Compared to the GameCube remake Resident Evil on Ps1 is just not scary any more ) or 2.) If the franchise is dead and can be brought back to life by going back to the original best games of the franchise ( E.g The Crash Bandicoot 'N sane Trilogy and The Spyro the Dragon Reignited trilogy ) . I think remaking the older games of the franchise would do more harm than good honestly . Persona 5 is and taking the franchise forward in alot of sectors including design, mechanics etc. and using time and resources on the older games and the more dated in areas of those older games ( including things more like mechanics and design rather and excluding like graphics) and especially having things like the same/similar stories and randomly generated dungeons it would just be taking the franchise a step backwards and be stumping it rather than letting Atlus focusing on the newer games . I'm not a person who is against remakes but persona 2,3 and 4 are still enjoyable games and don't need remakes as of now or possibly ever . This is just my opnion and from what I've been told I'm still saving up for a Vita to try the older games. If accessiblilty is the issue then a port the games to modern consoles should fix that issue .
I remember how in 2015 I bumped on "Persona 3 The Movie". For around 30 minutes I had no idea what was going on in the story, but it was swallowing me, deeper and deeper. After watching first of four films, I started to search for the game, and one hour later I've heard "Welcome to the velvet room!" It was point of no-return, and start of my expirience with Persona/SMT series
I remember seeing a short review on a cd of a game magazine for Persona 3 and being blown away by the imaginary. It was my first Persona game, but funnily enough not my first SMT game. Because of the image of Persona 3 in my mind, I saw one day a sale box that had Digital Devil Saga 2 in it.. And of course I got it. And than Digital Devil Saga 1, because.. oh look, these both belong together lol Afterwards I bought Persona 3 and 4 both together and the rest was finally history, the SMT franchise one me over completely and I bought every game that I could get my hand on.
Same! Except I saw the movie in, say, 2018, was kinda confused but overall liked it, and then didn't look further into it. Then got into P5 shortly before P5R was released and then connected the dots and got further into it. Edit: Not shortly after the release of P5, I'm stupid. Shortly before P5R. Confused it with other release dates somehow.
What got me laughing was the fact that you played persona 3 in church. A series, mind you, that is basically about using the power of friendship and the DEVIL to kill gods. Pretty much every game you fight another god to save the world.
SMT is just an "Everything but the Kitchen Sink" hodgepodge of religions & mythologies. Very reflective of Japan's own history - constantly assimilating & incorporating different traditions to their own. I am still waiting for a video connecting SMT's themes to Japanese history & ideologies.
P3 was the reason I was introduced to the SMT series. I do have to say that my brother calls it "emo series". Also, no one told me to go to bed. I can go overstudy and be sick. A very realistic experience
Got into Persona with Persona 4 Golden's release on PC and it was a great game Right now I'm doing P3F and I'm almost done with the Journey then after the answer I was going to go to P2 then P5
@@Mr_Meo playing through Persona 5 Royal right now. Played the original back when it released. P4 is such a classic, might need to play through it again a 3rd time
10:47 "Mixed feelings of confidants giving you certain abilities" Ah yes. I too also blew off Hifumi Togo's existence until late in the game, like by the fifth palace for instance, before realizing that her perks are a literal game-changer that it's insane to think about how easy it is to miss out on her. Similar case with the fortune teller. Meanwhile Iwai is locked behind level 4 guts where his perks are useless late game, and there's no point in talking more about the dead beaten horse that is the drunk reporter lady.
I blew her off my entire first playthrough and then when she popped up in the ending I was like whooo the fuck is that??? 💀 but then I just maxed her last night for NG+ and she’s literally amazing
Persona 3 needs a definitive edition that includes both the Playable FeMC and "The Answer". Updated graphics and the ability to fast travel like in P3P but in a 3D environment would be nice too. I wasn't too much of a fan of the cursor. Basically a combination of P3P and FES would be ideal.
And ideally on a modern platform. Like how they put P4G on Steam recently. Younger people like me can't afford to be buying all these old consoles, if I can find one at all, especially not for 1 game. Accessibility the my biggest problem with wanting to play the older games.
Agreed, except I ditched the boys for the end-game because I wanted a girl party. Shooting oneself in the head is still amazing though, and the kind of controversial that will never come to pass again in the age of oversensitivity. I've even heard people say that makes 3 depressing...even though evokers aren't actually guns and are just tools for sending a signal to their brain. No, 3 has elements that legit make it more depressing, in a good way.
Can’t agree with P3 more. I remember getting my copy of P3 FES (thankfully) and seeing the opening cinematic...I was genuinely blown away and filled with so many questions and thrill that it basically hooked me in even before I could get past the title screen. The cast was awesome, the story is well written, deep and the most rewarding one in my opinion. The social links were so good to the point that I didn’t even mind the dungeon crawling because I was more invested into getting to know all the people I met during my adventure. The ending also hit me in a strong emotional level that left me with a feeling of melancholy and bittersweet happiness after witnessing the true ending of this game . P3 is not a game, but a whole experience any JRPG fan must try.
Honestly at the end i was just relieved to have finally beat Nyx ass bitch, so the ending didnt really hit me (heck im not sure what happens). For me the cast wasnt that great nor was the story. It was so diluted in all the dungeon crawling (which i liked dont get me wrong) and there wasnt that much story anyway to begin with. The story is given to us in little bouts almost once every in game month, with like ten hours of tartarus roaming between each story segment. The fact that tartarus mini bosses were harder than the story ones for the most part also watered down its importance for me. It's just my 2 cents of course, i still really enjoyed the game despite all I said and am glad you love it so much. More power to the Persona series!
Id like a full on remake too, not just a remaster or a remake in game engine only. I dont think anybody can disagree that P5 Palaces are infinitely better than the Metaverse crawling we've been doing in the series up until that point. P3 deserves to be remade from the ground up.
Since it's already technically had a remake in the form of portable, the excuse for a remake wouldn't be valid unless the entire series gets one. It should be like pokemon, releasing a remake starting from p1 althway up the chain every few years. Pokemon has a remake every new console. Although The switch having 2 remakes suggests we might get more then just 1 in the future. Ps4 will still be supported for the next year or so but once everyone jumps onto the ps5 permanently then we'll most likely see them open up to remakes of older games or just ports.
Persona 3 is at the very top, and that’s entirely all that I need. It just felt the most realistic, dark and gripping out of the Persona games past the first two, and will always have a special place in my heart. Though I still entirely adore P4 and P5 as well. If they’re awesome then P5 is...beyond awesome!
The game is my favorite mostly because of it's simplicity, improvement over persona 3, and how relatable everyone is. But Persona 3's story is a chef's kiss I won't lie
Seeing persona 2 so high brings a tear to my eyes. It's such a amazing story with, imo, still a decent enough gameplay to not feel as dragged as persona 1. And I totally agree with you on this tbh, nice video.
now is totally obsolete, I tried to play it but I can't stand the gameplay, I played P5,P4,P3 with all spin off and and some of shin megami tensei ( nocturne, IV, IV adpocalipse ) and Catherine ( I now is very different but it's Atlus )
@@artaudiaann I've played a little bit of P1 on my PS Classic and the combat is really weird. It kinda has an Etrian Odyssey kind of vibe where positioning is important, but instead of just 6 slots to choose from(3 in front, 3 in back) you have a lot more to choose from and it can be hard to have a formation that always works for general use and enemies have the same range of where they can be placed, so sometimes you might need a formation where all of your long range attackers need to be on the front lines because the enemies are piled in the far back on their side.
@@artaudiaann p1 gameplay isn't bad, it's dynamic and honestly i like it. The only thing i didn't like is the dungeons and even thou i love the music in psp the ost just doesn't fit the atmosphere of the game.
I love Tartarus because it suits the gloomy and sad tone of the game, it also reminds me of some of the areas of strange journey. So thats a plus for me.
My Ranking from Best to worst in my opinion. 1.Persona 3(My first Mega Ten game and best soundtrack) 2.Persona 4(Best cast and setting) 3.Persona 5(Best Gameplay) 4.Persona 2(Best Story) 5.Persona 1(I guess I really like the atmosphere. The original soundtrack makes the game feel like a dream.)
This is the correct order IMO. I love 5 but the cast of characters and dialogue is SO much better in 4. Like it’s not even remotely close. Though I still love it. 3 the best tho
@Makoto Yuki Nyx isn't the personification of death in any canon P3 club book (The same one which makes Nyx is a goddess) says it outright that Nyx is just a random planet eater alien that crashed in earth (Which is kinda...bad but hey), if you assume this is canon, Makoto basically just pulled a chrono trigger against a lavos like figure. If you don't accept that explanation which is very much fair as it contradicts much of the lore we see, on the cognitive unconscious terms, there's no difference between Nyx and a guy like Yaldabaoth using normal persona lore From now on I'm assuming P3 club book isn't canon: While it is normally unknown, we know the cognitive unconscious leaks into the world becuse we see that in every game- The fog leaks to Inaba, Mementos fuses with the real world, the Dark Hour exists and Hitler is there (can't say much about P1 on the top of my mind other than IRL personas) By Persona 3 time, we are playing in what would happen if the cognitive world leaked but not a total loss for humanity- What if the Fog took over but was limited to Inaba and instead of played as a group of people trying to undo the effects? What if Mementos fused with reality but only limited to Tokyo? Those are roughly what the dark hour is like, the difference is just on how it affects as it isn't a spacial phenomenon, but rather a temporal one We can very much clarify it's the same phenomenon as other cognitive world leaks because there is something very similar to the Dark Hour effects- Whenever Mementos unfuses with the real world, everyone except confidants and persona users remembered what happened...rings a bell about a certain potential which Yaldabaoth was revealed to be handing off like it was candy? If we ignore P3 Club lavos explanation, both of those facts mean that there's no indication Nyx is an ever-present figure, in fact, it empowers the idea that she's only present in the dark hour, The movie gives extra emphasis on this as the moon is three times as big whenever in the dark hour there, very clearly showing that the cognitive world changes how the moon works (Which would technically be the same in the game, you just can't see it well) What about pre-Kirijo Group Stuff? In the game itself, the earliest mention of Nyx is pretty much the Kirijo group experiments which ended up creating the Dark Hour and Tartarus in first place, if we assume she is a greek goddess, that would make sense but there's no basis for it Emphasis on creating, because the dark hour supposedly ceases to exist when Nyx is sealed, in the game, it is clearly stated that the dark hour began 10 years before gamestart due to the Kirijo Group project, so this means that Nyx and the Dark Hour are directly interconnected, discounting P3 Club Book, there's no concrete hint that Nyx existed What about the Plumes of Dusk existing in real life? If we assume gameplay equals lore, they're not so different than the hordes of treasure or money you get from the cognitive word, if we don't, we see that the cognitive world can leak in limited forms already, metanav comes to mind And then why didn't Nyx instantly die when people stopped believing on her?...Well, they didn't in first place, in the cutscene, the Universe Arcana wasn't formed from citizens around port island...The second proof is that while it was short, Satanael got there to beat Yaldy up instead of Yaldabaoth just having a heart attack, I find it hard to believe cognitive gods die like that, not to mention Nyx never stood a chance against Makoto power of friendship While you could bring up the closer to the Fall, the more humanity acted differently and the fact that the Lost were increasing in numbers until Nyx death, we saw Yaldabaoth pulls the same shit as his game came to an end Using cognitive world rules, there's no indication really that Nyx is truly different, she wasn't an ever-present figure before the Kirijo group solved to summon her Wasn't Tartarus used to summon Nyx before the dark hour even existed? Tartarus could just be a byproduct of her existance like Mementos was, which fits better with the rest of my points rather than "Tartarus breaks everything" What about the later explanations of ancient-pre historic Nyx? Those explanations are often after the club book was published and it's tied directly to the club book, in the game there's no explanation of why the 12 shadows or why death is needed for Nyx to return, that is, until the Club Book establishes the fact of Nyx psyche Without P3 Club Book, the plumes of dusk don't have an origin, without P3 club book, Nyx doesn't appears on the moon , and well, the P3 Club Book destroys the idea Nyx is a god, she's just a planet eater alien with an overcomplicated way of eating planets Not saying Ren is more impressive or that Makoto is worse as she's unique in both explanations (Half success in one, alien in another), but the concept that Nyx is an all powerful being and the equivalent of Persona's YHVH in terms of power and that she can physically affect Earth while being invincible isn't really right
My interpretation to the P3 series is that after P2 a different timeline/reality or something. Nyx is a name given by someone or something. Philemon?? I dont know. Nyx is a planet size supernatural/universal godlike entity coming from nowhere who just decided to park near earth and disguises itself as a moon. Minato/tatsuya/sakuya/makoto seals Nyx because even if he kills it Nyx have an endless supply of death wishes that he can just use to get back to life. So by sealing Nyx earth is not doom or sucked into it again i dont know. You still have the shadow byproduct which is in p4 and p5. Yeah they have shadow gods there but they were born from the wishes of the masses and in turn made true by the residual power of nyx. Its dangerous yes but something the p4 and p5 cast can defeat with the power of friendship and persona. So this is my take on the know how in P3, P4, P5. Or the bits of what i still remember. P1 and P2 is a bit hard to explain and i have to be on stuff before trying to. Which makes me remember P1, P2, P3 still have that SMT vibe to it whereas P4 and P5 a full blow just PERSONA.
5: SMT but it's Persona 4: Nancy Drew 3: Pancakes 2: Let's kill the guy who broke Earth 1: Fighting Satan (Edit: Also leaving bread in a toaster for 6 hours)
Nyarly: "This is gonna be my death warrant" Me: "It's Persona 5 isn't it? That's a fair opinion, there were things it could have done better like-" **flashes picture of Makoto under hated characters** Me: "Oh hell no"
Alec Ramos also he said it was hard to rank up social stats? I feel like I had a harder time doing so in P3 and P4. Especially when some confidants give stats as you hang out with them.
@@rektyrektingson4668 I think I had a harder time with ranking SL in P3 and P4 because it was new to me. After playing those games and having experience, I knew how to handle confidants in P5. Also there's Chihaya, who's op at confidants
@@nar233 Chihaya was an absolute game changer. I tried to get her to rank 7 as soon as I could and everything else was pretty easy to max. Although, because of this, you won't be able to get gifts from your confidants.
If they remade 2 with persona 5s graphics and updated the gameplay then it honestly would be one of the best. It has the coolest and most interesting story
I seriousley dont know. I agree that Haru dindt get enough Screen Time but Akechi had from the Second Palace onwords pretty many Screen Time and in Saes Palace he pretty much said somthing in all conversations. And the fight with him is just Greate. Especley the Voice Actor he did a GREAT Job in that scene.
Mainly because of the short time he was a party member. I feel like he could have been an even better character if they had him rejoin the party later, but instead they just decided to have him only serve as a secondary antagonist.
@@NyarlyThey could have mad it mike this. After you are erased from the Masses Cognition and have to retreat all your Party Members from the Cells in the Velvet Rool he is there too and you can decide. Oh and onley THAN let his Confidance reach 10 and he gets a new Persona AND a new Phantom Thieves Uniform. Maybe they combine his two Outfits.
I honestly really agree with this list. I personally say that 3 an 5 are tied for me, since both games have a bit of a special meaning for me. But that's just my take. Otherwise, I absolutely do agree with your views on this subject.
100%. I'm currently playing through p3p right now, and it's really fun. But Persona 5 was one of the best experiences I've ever had in video games. The characters felt like real people, the story was great, and it had a good moral. It's suffice to say I can come back to this game every few years and it will still be fun
The P3 storyline though... It was definitely mt favourite of the series, killing some god, tragic love story, a really ambiguous ending, just fucking perfect
"The intro for P3 Fez is great just imagine being a 15 year old kid seeing this for the first time" Me, a 15 y/o kid playing through p3 fez for the first time: "How'd he know?"
Not gonna lie im 14 i was wondering how they pulled something good like that especially in p3p. Like wow it feels like i went on a roller coaster ride.
I hardcore love Tartarus, you're not alone. I love the changing themes, the smaller floors, and the way the music subtly gets more complex the higher you go. And I agree, P3P is the best in the series. Not even nostalgia talking -- I played 4 first.
@@ash-vx5bs - Tartarus is definitely a love or hate situation -- I haven't found a whole lot of people ambivalent about it. Strong feelings only. XD I absolutely love it but it's hard to explain why when asked. It's almost like that sensation you get when you're hiding from someone during a game of hide and seek -- that's how Tartarus makes me feel. Flipside, though, I haaaaaaate Mementos in P5. Absolutely hate it.
@@Chaeley Yh I hated momentos a lot more than I hate Tartarus, probably because I didn't play Royal with the Ryuji hacks. I might be one of the few ambivalent about tartarus, I like saving ppl n quests but esp near the end the number of floors is just stupid(but the judgement boost kinda makes up for it). The big thing tartarus has done to me is to make me save the game 10000 times every playthrough cause them mid-bosses r harder than the full moon shadows fr.
I'm kind of shocked that Persona 4 is so low on the list. It's my favorite in the Persona series. The soundtrack was phenomenal. I might be biased since I grew up being bullied a lot, but the idea of having a cast of characters that need to overcome their flaws and accept who they are, good or bad, was an amazing decision in my opinion. The characters had such good depth to them and they all connected so well as a group. A game about loving yourself and accepting yourself with a phenomenal plot and heartwarming characters puts it at the top of my list. But that's just me
I mean my problem with persona 4s message is that a characters arc is practically over after they are saved from the TV. The social links barely even address a characters flaws unless you happen to be naoto and kanji. I want to love p4, Teddie is my favorite mascot, Kanji and junpei are tied for best boy, and naoto is one of my best girls in all of persona, along with all the other persona antags paling in comparison to adachi. Even with all these pluses, i cannot put p4 above p3 in any part of my heart.
This is really similar to how I feel too. I get a more heartwarming story isn’t as entertaining and kind of cliche. But seeing all the characters helping each other and then them battling together after overcoming their problems are just amazing. The cast is miles ahead of any of the other games in my opinion and the themes of accepting yourself and the part of you, you don’t like it is important. I also loved how they were trying to find the truth and get past all the fog ( spoilers ahead at this point ) Ameno Sagiri is my favorite boss in the whole persona series and it’s design looks amazing. The fact the TV world is all a place made up by the wishes of mankind can be chilling too. Knowing that what we want can be hurting other people. Not to mention the soundtrack is just beautiful with songs like signs of love and shadow world. It also has some great battle themes with reach out to the truth, I’ll face myself, the almighty and a lot of others. I truly think it’s the best persona game and also best game ever made
@Retendo i mean im not shaming you if you like p4 because its a good game, but p3 characters had constant development for example mitsuru is often strict and cold but after her fathers death she learns to be more soft and becomes friends with yukari everything in the story contributes to the end, at the start of the game yukari wouldnt care for the rest of the members and would honestly rather die in blissful ignorance than to go through the struggle of fighting back, by the end of the game she cares for her members and wants to fight nyx even though she knows it will be a huge struggle
Persona 2 is regarded so highly with its story because really all the games after that heavily borrow story elements from persona 2. The whole thing with the world ending and gods arising at the end while the public loses hope for all. It’s just a tad disappointing after playing p2 realizing that p5 is actually almost a copy of the story of p2 and p3 has the same kind of ending (haven’t played p4 yet plz dont spoil though I’d imagine the same sort of ending happens). So you really have to give credit for p2 because it basically established a lot of things for the later persona games. Not to mention the character development is fantastic and every single character changes so much while many later persona games there’s always some character that kinda just stays the same throughout the game.
its also such a shame that P5 really is a ripoff instead of a homage to P2. And to make it worse, most peopel forgot or ignore what P5 embraces itself with to P2, even to P2 fans from what I gathered. From "simply" stealing plot points and redesigning them so "it fits with the game" to even genderswapping one character and recolouring him into a her and cutting the age in half (if Futaba is around 16-17 in compare to Baofu's 33 or 32).
@@Evilriku13 when u mentioned P5 genderswapping a P2 character the first person that came up in my head was futaba without even reading rest of the post. As much as I love Persona 5, I guess u have a point.
As someone whose introduction to Persona and SMT as a whole was Persona 3 and being one of those people whose favorite is Persona 5, I desperately want to see a remake of Persona 3. Seeing the beta test footage for P5's engine using the Iwatodai Dorm, I'd love to see a P3 remake in P5's engine that encompasses P3FES and P3P's content.
That would be the ultimate Persona 3 experience. And I'd like to see the whole jealous/reverse social links while dating an another girl sytem to just not be there, it makes maxing out some social links a pain in the ass.
I'm 19 and I always heard good things about the Persona Series so I brought a new PS4 and played P5. Never have I experienced a game like that and meeting the characters and building friendships with a UI dripping in personality had me hooked. Now I've recently installed p3 on my phone through an emulator and I'm even more hooked than before. Its truly an amazing series and you my good sir have convinved me to go back to P2 after I finish p3. This series has really stolen my heart!
Oh and as of right now (Being on 6 shadows remaining at P3) I can freely say I genuinly enjoy P3 more than P5. P3 has good music with some songs being FANTASTIC whereas P5 has really good music with maybe 1 song that really stands out. I was surprised to hear your opinion on P4 though, I've heard that its really beloved to the fans o.O
@@wrunewright omg same here. I actually play P5 first as i heard it's good so i decided to give it a try and oh boy i got addicted. Then i decided to check out P3 and play P3P and until now its becoming my favorite
Persona 3 FES is the best, I really like the story and the character development. In persona 4 or 5 i never really attached to the character. Maybe because character development in social link is the worst idea, because the story must not effect by your social link rank.
Allannah Caratzas Isn’t it other way around? P3’s SL is the least memorable out of the 3 titles from 3 to 5, I only like The Sun’s SL in P3, others SL are kinda meh and some of them are even kinda pain to did it(Magician and Moon). P4 and 5’s SL, on the other hand are more interesting and more memorable. And kinda funny if you think about if, IMO P4 has sad, depressing SLs more than P3 even it’s the most upbeat one in the group, with The Death, Hanged Man and The Sun(again) as examples. BTW I don’t think having characters got their second-awakening through SLs is a bad idea, SLs in Persona are kinda semi-canon event in the game to begin with and have a chance to look deep into characters before we got their second-awakening make it feel very impactful. In P3 even all awakening scenes are canon(+unpopular opinion incoming+), I feel like they’re lacking something and that because we barely got a chance to look a bit deep into the characters before they were like “here I overcome my problem, I’ve awaken my new power”, at first all of that feel so cool but after gone though P4 and P5, look back there it’s not that great anymore. I can give a pass for 3 girls Aigis, Yukari and Mitsuru cases cause they got enough build-up from the main story, but for the rest I think developers can still did better than that.
I just love how you starting the entry for Number 3 with "This is gonna be my death warrant" instantly clues just about everyone what number three's gonna be. 'XD
Persona 3 is a masterpiece. I love the balance of social life and dungeon crawling along with story. I love the cast (my favorite character being Mitsuru) each character has their own uniqueness to them. While I didn't play the original, Persona 3 Portable was an adventure I'll never forget. Shoutout to Atlus for making such a banger game with an amazing soundtrack.
I dont agree with your opinions, as my listing is different, but the way you cleanly explained your thoughts had me respecting your choices. Nicely done.
They probably didn't have the chance to since every allusion to nazism is illegal there apart from some special cases. The Wolfenstein games had a similar problem even tho the whole point of the series is killing nazis.
@@PepperElDev that game got realeased there, although untranslated. Whats even weirder: The "lyrics" of "knights of the holy lance" are still intact. Either one slept during the process of checking that out or nobody cared ultimately about it, so Im ok with that.

it’s objectively the worst game in the series. But P3 fans believe otherwise because it’s about death, which it doesn’t even delve deeply into and doesn’t even address insight on the topic of death well either. Terrible game with terrible characters and a terrible story.

KazeAce You could not prove me wrong. I would be able to shut down anything you say because P3 has the worst story/storytelling out of all the games objectively. You can say it’s your favorite, but it is the worst game in the series.
@@adhddhdh3572 adding objectively doesn't make it true, I think p3's story is much better than all other persona games with the exception of p2, please don't tell me the power of friendship and all that jazz is better than p3's well done and dark-toned plot, also it's a matter of opinion so no one will go through the trouble to throw arguments at you so don't pull that "objectively worse" crap.
@@adhddhdh3572 If P3 is terrible for you, then all the others must be more terrible because for me, no other story from the persona series comes close to how P3 presented their story. You might say it is terrible because you missed a whole lot of points the story made, I mean, it's very complex and all that. I got bored with the other personas because they are straightforward and more predictable, BUT they are also nice and has a different take than p3. but hey, you do you. And you shouldn't say "objectively" because opinions are meant to be "subjective".

I don't know, I really like Makoto and Mishima. Sometimes they got a little annoying but I liked their character's personalities and there's always a reason for how a character acts, so I really enjoyed watching their progression.

Cyryl well she’s good at everything but sucks at love and relationships until you come if you want to, her phantom code name is queen anyway and I thought she was really cute when she got scared and hugged joker’s leg during the group in futaba, at that moment I was like yep I already chose my romance option

P5r is gonna be a blast. I feel that the devs will fix a lot of things(mostly with story) as they would be able to rehire the original story writers.(cause p5 had a very low budget)
In P5R, Morgana doesnt restrict you that much. However, there are moments where you cant go outside. But your able to boost your stats or craft items in Leblanc.
I’m one of the few people who liked the AI in P3FES. It just felt so immersive and added a new level of strategy that I find the games lacking. I played P5 like this up until a boss kept despairing me and my team being too dumb to throw an item at me.
Persona 2 is also my favorite. I finished so many times. Especially Eternal Punishment. The story is so dark, and got me hooked so much. It's sad that Persona these days, is moving away from the "dark plot" that it used to have, and it's becoming more slice-of-life more than anything else, with the whole waifu stuff. Though Persona 3 still have the essence of Persona 1 and 2 and I loved it as well. But 4 and 5, moved completely moved away from what it used to be.
*me grinding a floor* Fuuka: I sence death, death is near! "Me having no idea what she is talking about" *Gets ambushed* Nothing in persona got me scared the most, after that i quickly moved up floors
I’d love to see a Persona 2 duology remake. It’s honestly such an underrated gem in the series and really deserves its time to shine. Plus Persona 2 has Maya, who arguably beats P3 Portable for the first female protagonist (since she stars in Eternal Punishment.)
if one day ATLUS rethinjs this, I hope there wont be the calendar system or even the social links imbedded. The social link stuff is basically "have your personal time with character XY and having character growth outside of the main story" and the calendar system, so far, worked with having the main character goign to school for the majority of the game, which Persona 1 & 2 never did, luckily imo, as the story doesnt need to take a hold for such and can center itself outside the school premise, unless binding it in with some events like P2 did.
Persona 3 isn't my favorite (That would be 4) but I actually liked AI party members. I think most of the flack comes from folks who left the characters on act freely all the time. I feel like deciding your tactics adds an element of strategy that's fun. I'm always pretty vigilant about my tactics and check em almost every time it's the protagonist turn, I rarely felt like the AI made frustratingly stupid decisions because of that. You also get new tactical commands every full moon which is hella satisfying and I wish the full tactics were available in later games. I played 5 and 4 first and utilized AI tactics a decent amount so getting used to it didn't take long. Before I got 3 I expected it to be much more of a downside then it ended up being when I got it
P3P was my first and favorite persona game. I remember playing about 90 hours my first playthrough, sitting in my room feeling so accomplished and happy with the ending only to pick it right back up and start a second playthrough. I REALLY a want persona 3 remake with the same visuals of P5 but I doubt it will happen anytime soon.
One day I decided to get a PSP because it was one of the cheaper handheld options. Having heard of this "Persona" thing I looked up Persona PSP on ebay and found Persona 3 Portable. I would go on to buy more PSP games, including the other games Persona games, but my PSP was basically my P3P box until I bought my switch. One of my favorite games of all times.
I don't agree with some if not most of the picks in this list, but I really like your reasoning and explanations for each entry not brushing any of them off. You even made me change my mind on some of my picks. great video man!
I’m only part-way through p4g right now and I have to say that so far it’s my favourite so far. As a diehard yakuza fan I have to say that the lighthearted tone for something like serial murder is one of my favourite things about the yakuza and its ability to change the tone from your best friend dying to jamming to karaoke in a bar is pretty similar to having the investigation team just screw around for half of the cutscenes.
Its always hard to compare to your first time with something. Sometimes its not even that the other entries arent as good but that it didnt take you where you wanted to go after that first experience.
I would say out of 3,4 or 5. 4 is probably my least favorite. The first playthrough is pretty amazing but afterwards it does begin to feel kinda stale, the only team member I found interesting was Kanji. 5 was a lot better, the story was a little much but I liked how they connected it with the desire of the people. I liked that all the confidents were a little bit more broken, they felt like real people and I'm glad you don't have to enter a relationship with every girl you talk to. Also Akechi is so much more interesting than Adachi, his relationship with Joker reminds me of a alternative universe of Jun and Tatsuya. Also the art style of five is just *chef kiss* 3 will always be my favorite though. I like the ps2 verison slightly more than psp verison as there's a few more options (reversing a relationship was a brilliant idea) I like all the cast, I think outta them all though my least favorite is Fuuka just because she doesn't really lose anything or anyone- it mightive just been there to be something different but I dunno, I felt she was just an odd character choice, she was a bit more interesting in the female route of Persona 3 portable especially in the moon arcana.
I find it interesting to hear your perspective on Persona, since it's so different from mine: and that's okay! People can have different opinions after all. But it is shocking to me that I feel to P4 the way you feel about P3 and reverse. I played P3 after P4 and I heard from many that P3 was the hardest... but I found it pretty easy once I got into the groove of things after getting to June in the game. The social links, the story, the cast and the gameplay all felt very bare bones compared to P4, so at first my view was skewed as it being bad, but I came around and thought it was a good game that just happened to be improved upon on the following entries as I did find P4 more challenging, more fair, more fun, and its story gripped me more and its cast was really memorable for me. Still, I do appreciate looking into a perspective so different from my own; I think it allows me to see some core flaws on P4 I may have missed before, while also appreciating P3 more as opposed to my reaction of playing it the first time.
P4/P4G is my favourite (I'm a sucker for more rural settings) but I still really enjoyed P3, which was my first. Lots of people argue 5 is the best, and I can't argue there's a lot of advancements that make it objectively better than the others. Dungeon variety and execution (of the game itself, not of personas in the game) come to mind. I graduated in '06 so it felt kind of weird going back to high school in the form of a video game a year later. =p I'm actually playing P5R right now and enjoying it. Never played anything pre-3, but I may give the 2 duology a look at, at some point. It would be neat to see them give P3 the ultimate treatment -- take the best elements of all of the games (in a way which makes sense story-wise) and put them into an ultimate port/remaster that they release on Steam. Hopeful thoughts. =D
Eventhough I slightly prefer 3, I think I an arguement could be made that 5 is the best. By far the best looking in the series, best dungeons, best QoL, best combat, UI, cutscenes (basically everything on a presentation level). Combined with a pretty good cast, and story with a stellar ost (my personal favorite). Yeah, I can see why people put it as their favorite. I'd put it like this: 1) P3 2)P5 3)P4 I prefered 3's story, but had more fun with 5, so I'm conflicted on which I prefer.
I totally agree with you on Tartarus. The random yet predicable floor layouts and shadow behavior made it far more forgiving and less tedious than the dungeons in 4. Also, the feeling of accomplishment you get when you finally reach the roof is incredible. Am I weird for being okay with the AI party members? It still required some strategy, like picking the right members and adjusting their behavior on the fly. I also felt p3 had some of the most iconic and satisfying boss battles, particularly the floor guardians. I would rank them akin to the ones in Nocturne.
Thank for information of this game.

Why not 1 and 2?
@@genericstickman5967 cuz 3 is better? xd
If I remember correctly, P3P has the option to let you command your party members.
I remember how in 2015 I bumped on "Persona 3 The Movie". For around 30 minutes I had no idea what was going on in the story, but it was swallowing me, deeper and deeper. After watching first of four films, I started to search for the game, and one hour later I've heard "Welcome to the velvet room!"
It was point of no-return, and start of my expirience with Persona/SMT series

Back when I was 13 and getting into Persona/SMT I often used to shoot me with an airsoft.
@@albatross1688So somehow the depressing part is not imminent world destruction but the part where they shoot themselves with a (not) gun?
Allowing u a choice for a diff ending is cool too.

Persona 3 is my favorite as well. I do feel it needs the remake treatment though.
I would sell my soul for a remake
@@xYumi145
That was one of the problems I had. Like none of the editions of P3 had all the added content. Like a definitive version.
Nah, just a remaster is fine, please no changing to be like persona 5, not every game needs to be equal, it's fine to be diferent

Persona 4 is still my favorite to this day due to the fact that I liked the story, mystery, and overall gameplay
And I totally agree with you on this tbh, nice video.

persona 1 gameplay is this bad? everyone i know says its a game with a good story but terrible gameplay...
@@artaudiaann persona 2 doesn't have a terrible gameplay, its only problem is that is 20 years old as FFVII

@@funnyfunnyvalentine7991 Yeah but weren't they fake?

@Makoto Yuki Nyx isn't the personification of death in any canon
P3 club book (The same one which makes Nyx is a goddess) says it outright that Nyx is just a random planet eater alien that crashed in earth (Which is kinda...bad but hey), if you assume this is canon, Makoto basically just pulled a chrono trigger against a lavos like figure.
If you don't accept that explanation which is very much fair as it contradicts much of the lore we see, on the cognitive unconscious terms, there's no difference between Nyx and a guy like Yaldabaoth using normal persona lore
From now on I'm assuming P3 club book isn't canon:
While it is normally unknown, we know the cognitive unconscious leaks into the world becuse we see that in every game- The fog leaks to Inaba, Mementos fuses with the real world, the Dark Hour exists and Hitler is there (can't say much about P1 on the top of my mind other than IRL personas)
By Persona 3 time, we are playing in what would happen if the cognitive world leaked but not a total loss for humanity- What if the Fog took over but was limited to Inaba and instead of played as a group of people trying to undo the effects? What if Mementos fused with reality but only limited to Tokyo? Those are roughly what the dark hour is like, the difference is just on how it affects as it isn't a spacial phenomenon, but rather a temporal one
We can very much clarify it's the same phenomenon as other cognitive world leaks because there is something very similar to the Dark Hour effects- Whenever Mementos unfuses with the real world, everyone except confidants and persona users remembered what happened...rings a bell about a certain potential which Yaldabaoth was revealed to be handing off like it was candy?
If we ignore P3 Club lavos explanation, both of those facts mean that there's no indication Nyx is an ever-present figure, in fact, it empowers the idea that she's only present in the dark hour,
The movie gives extra emphasis on this as the moon is three times as big whenever in the dark hour there, very clearly showing that the cognitive world changes how the moon works (Which would technically be the same in the game, you just can't see it well)
What about pre-Kirijo Group Stuff? In the game itself, the earliest mention of Nyx is pretty much the Kirijo group experiments which ended up creating the Dark Hour and Tartarus in first place, if we assume she is a greek goddess, that would make sense but there's no basis for it
Emphasis on creating, because the dark hour supposedly ceases to exist when Nyx is sealed, in the game, it is clearly stated that the dark hour began 10 years before gamestart due to the Kirijo Group project, so this means that Nyx and the Dark Hour are directly interconnected, discounting P3 Club Book, there's no concrete hint that Nyx existed
What about the Plumes of Dusk existing in real life? If we assume gameplay equals lore, they're not so different than the hordes of treasure or money you get from the cognitive word, if we don't, we see that the cognitive world can leak in limited forms already, metanav comes to mind
And then why didn't Nyx instantly die when people stopped believing on her?...Well, they didn't in first place, in the cutscene, the Universe Arcana wasn't formed from citizens around port island...The second proof is that while it was short, Satanael got there to beat Yaldy up instead of Yaldabaoth just having a heart attack, I find it hard to believe cognitive gods die like that, not to mention Nyx never stood a chance against Makoto power of friendship
While you could bring up the closer to the Fall, the more humanity acted differently and the fact that the Lost were increasing in numbers until Nyx death, we saw Yaldabaoth pulls the same shit as his game came to an end
Using cognitive world rules, there's no indication really that Nyx is truly different, she wasn't an ever-present figure before the Kirijo group solved to summon her
Wasn't Tartarus used to summon Nyx before the dark hour even existed? Tartarus could just be a byproduct of her existance like Mementos was, which fits better with the rest of my points rather than "Tartarus breaks everything"
What about the later explanations of ancient-pre historic Nyx? Those explanations are often after the club book was published and it's tied directly to the club book, in the game there's no explanation of why the 12 shadows or why death is needed for Nyx to return, that is, until the Club Book establishes the fact of Nyx psyche
Without P3 Club Book, the plumes of dusk don't have an origin, without P3 club book, Nyx doesn't appears on the moon
, and well, the P3 Club Book destroys the idea Nyx is a god, she's just a planet eater alien with an overcomplicated way of eating planets
Not saying Ren is more impressive or that Makoto is worse as she's unique in both explanations (Half success in one, alien in another), but the concept that Nyx is an all powerful being and the equivalent of Persona's YHVH in terms of power and that she can physically affect Earth while being invincible isn't really right
My interpretation to the P3 series is that after P2 a different timeline/reality or something.

But that's just me
I was shocked as well that it was low in the list cause its my fav game but then I remembered it's his opinion, so like it's all good lmao
....is all I need to hear 💛
I truly think it’s the best persona game and also best game ever made
@Retendo i mean im not shaming you if you like p4 because its a good game, but p3 characters had constant development
for example mitsuru is often strict and cold but after her fathers death she learns to be more soft and becomes friends with yukari
everything in the story contributes to the end, at the start of the game yukari wouldnt care for the rest of the members and would honestly rather die in blissful ignorance than to go through the struggle of fighting back, by the end of the game she cares for her members and wants to fight nyx even though she knows it will be a huge struggle

I like p4 crew tho
I can give a pass for 3 girls Aigis, Yukari and Mitsuru cases cause they got enough build-up from the main story, but for the rest I think developers can still did better than that.
everyone says p3s social links are the best but a lot of them I just didn’t find interesting.

8:40 “This is going to be my death warrant”

I dont agree with your opinions, as my listing is different, but the way you cleanly explained your thoughts had me respecting your choices. Nicely done.

I wonder how Germany react when they found out they can actually fight hitler in Persona 2
Awww i want to play it but the ps1 version is so expensive:/
I'm not German, but live there. When i first saw Hitler with sunglasses + the fact i can fight them all, it felt SUPER WEIRD. But also super cool :^
censorship in germany is a coinflip
helsing ultimate for example: they show the ss symbols and all like its nothing.
but they turned zorin into a dude?
"playing female protagonist for the first time" Maya says hello. XD
I'm glad you agree that P3 is the best, to me it's always been *the* Persona game.
it’s objectively the worst game in the series. But P3 fans believe otherwise because it’s about death, which it doesn’t even delve deeply into and doesn’t even address insight on the topic of death well either. Terrible game with terrible characters and a terrible story.
@@adhddhdh3572 To each his own, i want to tell you how wrong you are or how you just don't see it but that would take me 8+ paragraphs or more than an hour of typing so yeah not worth the effort.
PS2 version of P3:
"Yukari you MORON! I need Diarama! Stop using Medical Powder!"
PSP version of P3:
"Ha! Now you can't screw me over Yukari!" *entire party is charned*
"Really?! Yes please; keep healing the enemy and playing whack-a-mole with each other for 10 minutes!"
At least Tome of the Void is a big deal
Play full defense mode persona 3 portable it's funny u keep fuseing till u get one persona with most attributes null then get one persona who's a healer with the other attributes ur missing and keep swapping and playing healing god as ur part runs around killing each other and enemys 😂
Putting in a guess before I watch, it goes 1, 4, 5, 3, 2
1 off
You were so close
Swap 3 and 2 and bam

Makoto fans: so u have chosen DEATH
It’s true. Makoto is a great party member, but an annoying character.
@@drybrucke1 eh, she is the least annoying tbh. In fact, I think she is the best party member next to kasumi. But thats just a general agreement the community came too aswell. Haru is the absolute worst. But respect the opinion.
Is he wrong though?
@@isaac7175 well since this is purely based on opinion, no one is wrong or right.
Imo she is the best female character next to kasumi.
“There’s a character I hate.”
Shows 2 of my favorite persona 5 characters
Oh. So that’s how it is.
I get how people can like the budget Mitsuru... but how the hell is Michina a favourite?
It's the original release of NoMans Sky of people.
I don't know, I really like Makoto and Mishima. Sometimes they got a little annoying but I liked their character's personalities and there's always a reason for how a character acts, so I really enjoyed watching their progression.
@@np-cos4065 Oh, for budget Mitsuru, only her looks are something to like. She's barely got a personality and is just a "I'm good at everything" sort of character. (so a perfect waifu I guess... but...)
I guess I can see how watching Nishuma grow could be good, but he's still not a likeable person.
Cyryl well she’s good at everything but sucks at love and relationships until you come if you want to, her phantom code name is queen anyway and I thought she was really cute when she got scared and hugged joker’s leg during the group in futaba, at that moment I was like yep I already chose my romance option
@@edgelessspace7180 so you like her because shes cute and nothing else.
I bet hitlers persona would be a eagle holding a swastika with his signature mustache.
actually its a cthulu-ian creature with arms/roots and having imbedded blank faces and going by the name of Nyarlatothep.
@@Evilriku13 Huh, so they took that angle. Nyarlatohotep also known as the Black Pharaoh or the Creeping Chaos is a Great Old One in Lovecraftian Lore.
He takes many faces and does so to toy with humanity as he gets amusement put of fucking with us. So honestly, its possible he took the form of Hitler to fuck with humanity
@@ButtersTheGreat1 not just possible that is what happened

@@Evilriku13 lovecraftian could work. Lovecrafts cat perhaps?
P5r is gonna be a blast. I feel that the devs will fix a lot of things(mostly with story) as they would be able to rehire the original story writers.(cause p5 had a very low budget)
The only way "P5R is gonna be a blast" is if they give my girl Haru the screen time she deserves.
Retendo and unfortunately it's not the *HER* I want
P5 is good, but would have been worse if it wasn't delayed. It was supposed to release in Winter 2013.
In P5R, Morgana doesnt restrict you that much. However, there are moments where you cant go outside. But your able to boost your stats or craft items in Leblanc.
I finished Royal yesterday... It's even better 😉
I’m one of the few people who liked the AI in P3FES. It just felt so immersive and added a new level of strategy that I find the games lacking.
I played P5 like this up until a boss kept despairing me and my team being too dumb to throw an item at me.
You are
Yeah, that's because youre supposed to use the item yourself
8:40 HE SAW IT COMING
I think he forgot to talk about the main character of every game
Persona 3 is Number 1?
I've been waiting for this!
[Attack] [Relent]
Persona 2 is also my favorite. I finished so many times. Especially Eternal Punishment. The story is so dark, and got me hooked so much. It's sad that Persona these days, is moving away from the "dark plot" that it used to have, and it's becoming more slice-of-life more than anything else, with the whole waifu stuff. Though Persona 3 still have the essence of Persona 1 and 2 and I loved it as well. But 4 and 5, moved completely moved away from what it used to be.
"Just imagine being a 15 year old seeing that OP for the first time" I don't have to imagine, I still remember it
I was 15 when I saw it
Man P3P dungeon when u just randomly hear the sound of chains was the best part of the game lol. Even now i could still hear those chains.
*hears literal Death rattle*
"Where are the stairs???"
I legit heard the chains as I read this ahahhaah
The only time when you'll abandon your teammates and run for life.. until you fuse Messiah >:)
LMAO 🤣🤣
*me grinding a floor*
Fuuka: I sence death, death is near!
"Me having no idea what she is talking about"
*Gets ambushed*
Nothing in persona got me scared the most, after that i quickly moved up floors
@@Evilriku13 all we need is a 3d remake. Nothing else matters from the newer persona games.
"It's without doubt the best looking game in the MegaTen series and it will age like fine wine"
Cue Persona 3 Reload
Persona 3 FES was my first SMT Franchise game and I instantly loved it. I was hooked before I even named my character.
Before I got 3 I expected it to be much more of a downside then it ended up being when I got it
Did someone say Marin Karin?
"Memories of You" starts playing
I'm not crying, you're crying
Damn, you are the reason I started persona 2 and I'm SO THANKFUL to listen to you.
"the main criticism for Persona 1, is the game"
When Memories of You started up--- Duuudeeeee-
One day I decided to get a PSP because it was one of the cheaper handheld options.
I'm so happy my boi Akechi has more screentime in p5r
I’m only part-way through p4g right now and I have to say that so far it’s my favourite so far. As a diehard yakuza fan I have to say that the lighthearted tone for something like serial murder is one of my favourite things about the yakuza and its ability to change the tone from your best friend dying to jamming to karaoke in a bar is pretty similar to having the investigation team just screw around for half of the cutscenes.
Its always hard to compare to your first time with something. Sometimes its not even that the other entries arent as good but that it didnt take you where you wanted to go after that first experience.
Burn my dread is so fucking awesome. And the remix is also awesome. Despite p3s flaws I love it.
The second he said "This will sign my death warrant" I grabbed my gun
Also the art style of five is just *chef kiss*
3 will always be my favorite though. I like the ps2 verison slightly more than psp verison as there's a few more options (reversing a relationship was a brilliant idea)
I like all the cast, I think outta them all though my least favorite is Fuuka just because she doesn't really lose anything or anyone- it mightive just been there to be something different but I dunno, I felt she was just an odd character choice, she was a bit more interesting in the female route of Persona 3 portable especially in the moon arcana.
I'm actually playing P5R right now and enjoying it.
I'd put it like this:
1) P3
2)P5
3)P4
I prefered 3's story, but had more fun with 5, so I'm conflicted on which I prefer.
The fact that you played persona 3 in church is hilarious to me.
Priest: And now my children we will...
*accidentally turns up my psp volume*
psp: BURNNNNNN MY DREAAAAAAD
I totally agree with you on Tartarus. The random yet predicable floor layouts and shadow behavior made it far more forgiving and less tedious than the dungeons in 4. Also, the feeling of accomplishment you get when you finally reach the roof is incredible. Am I weird for being okay with the AI party members? It still required some strategy, like picking the right members and adjusting their behavior on the fly. I also felt p3 had some of the most iconic and satisfying boss battles, particularly the floor guardians. I would rank them akin to the ones in Nocturne.
