I think the only thing that didn't translate well to the movies is Harry's thoughts that reveal just how snarky and stubborn he really is in the books. He's a bit too nice in the movies. In the books he's just like most 11 year olds just with magical powers.
That’s a great point! I think you’re right, we do miss out on some crucial inner dialogue and sarcasm in the movies!
@@dylancanread yeah Harry can be a bit more..sassy...in the books. Can you see movie Harry telling Dudley that he didn't think the toilet had had anything as bad as Dudley's head in it so it might get sick? Lol.

Also a Ravenclaw! Hagrid has been consistently my favorite character over the years. I started reading them as soon as the first movie came out and had to wait for 5, 6 and 7 as they came out. They were a massive part of my 20's. Have read the series about 18 times since. It never gets old. It's the most whimsical and enjoyable series I can think of.
I just finished book 7 (video coming soon!) and I have to agree! Such a fun series, unlike anything I’ve ever read.

My favorite character (not to be confused with my favorite person in the series) is Snape because he is such a complex individual. The person I would probably prefer hanging out with is either Hermione or Luna. Ginny’s kind of cool also. It’s hard to pick just one. ☺️

My 5 year old great-niece got me into Harry Potter in 2005 when she begged me to watch the 1st movie with her on cable. As soon as I found out there were books first I immediately read the 2 my niece had and got the rest that were out from the library as soon as I finished those. I was in my 40's at the time.
I love the whole series even though I'm 61 now.

I feel like it went through cycles. At first, everyone wanted Gryffindor. Then people started seeing Gryffindor as basic and wanted any house BUT Gryffindor. Now I think it's evened out with people wanting Gryffindor about as much as the other houses. But like you I've always been a proud Ravenclaw.

I’m also Ravenclaw! There’s a really cool sorting hat quiz that shows you each house’s percentages. I first read the books around 2018, and just read the last book in January. Couldn’t bring myself to end it!

i got the books as a gift when my mom passed away 2 years ago. never read them until now. ive seen the movies and loved them. but the books. OH MAN HAVE I MISSED OUT

I'm so excited for your Harry Potter journey! I loved the books growing up. Bought the last two books in hard cover right when they came out and finished them in 2-3 days. As an adult, I still enjoy re-reading them every now and then. They were a great pandemic marathon read in 2020. 🙂

Read all the HP books as they came out. My oldest was 1 year old when sorcerers stone was published.
I would also choose changing appearance at will as a superpower. I agree that mind reading might be a scary power to have, definitely don't want to know what others really think of me.

It was excruciating! My youngest son waited until they were all released then he read them back to back.
These books was the most important books of my childhood!

@@dylancanread Well.. I was 16 when the last book was published so I was their target. And maybe that's why I'm crazy about this books till now (I've read them in three different languages). While my 10 years younger sister read maybe one or two.
I first read the first 3 Harry Potter books right when they came out and thought they were decent. In late 2007, my father passed away and I binge read all 7 of them within a 3 month period and it was really my first experience of hardcore reading a series of books for long sessions at a time.
My favorite book is The Goblet of Fire!

I loved the hunger games series as well!. I was a Twilight fan too, lol. I also have not read any of the Harry Potter books(nor watched the movies) and they have been on my TBR list for far too long. lol This must be a sign for me to finally read them.

And yes!! I haven’t read the Twilight books, but the hunger games was so good! Definitely making me nostalgic.

I just started reading and watching Harry Potter at 38 years old about 2 weeks ago! I am so disappointed in myself that I didn't give them a chance way back when the books were coming out. I was "one of those people" who thought that HP was "weird"... better late than never right?

I like how many people chose their pets based on their perception of them in terms of appearance and overall sort of cleanliness i guess or cool factor. Mean while im here like well, i choose a cat i wont be able to focus on it and I would hate to entrap a pet of mine with other seemingly random pets in the dorm that I would be in. Plus i wouldnt be able to hold it back from wandering getting lost or killed. I wouldnt choose an owl because im guessing they would be very demanding pets. As in exercise, diet, and overall maintenance. Not to mention that I dont think exactly recall the movies mentioning anything about taking care of one's pet properly. So almost no one is being taught anything about falconry according to my limited knowledge of the wizarding world and irl lmao. So i would choose a frog/toade. I think their maintenance would be simpler and wouldnt take up as much space as the other.
You should take one that has all possible questions, and see the percentages you can get. Meaning if you get ravenclaw again, you will see the parts of you that are the other houses.
If you’re doing a mix of the audiobooks and physical copies, get the Stephen Fry audiobooks

Lol! I think I've seen all the Harry Potter movies but I didn't see them in the order they were made. They were confusing to me. I liked them but I don't have an urge to read the books. So I can't wait to see what you have to say. GO DYLAN! Lol

I'm 40....so I was older than the intended Harry Potter audience. I was in high school when the first book came out and I didn't read them until I was an adult....I want to say in my mid 20's...but I have reread all 7 every year since the first read.
An annual reread is impressive! But understandable - they are so good! 😁
I was around maybe 16 or 17 when I first got in to HP.
My house is Slytherin and my patronus is a scops owl and my wand is eleven inches ebony wood with unicorn hair core

I seen Harry Potter books as a kid never read it thought the book was to long. I read The first one then seen the movie im currently on chapter 5 of the second book.

I’m a Hufflepuff and to be honest, I thought HP was kind of dumb after watching the trailer. A friend of mine got me in to it and I fell in love with the series. So I’ve been a fan since it came out. I did watch the movie first though, I know booo. Haha So I have now read all 8 and seen all 8 movies and I’m a massive fan. I’m 37 years old absolutely love it.
