Happy New Year everyone!! 🥳🥂✨ Hope you all had a fun holiday break- now it’s time we reclaim our homes this year and give it the love it deserves 🏡 Tell me, if money wasn’t an issue- what’s the first room in your home you would remodel and why?
The kitchen. It's only about 13'x11.5' (not open). I use it the most of any room. It's on the north side (back side) of the home, which has the back door that opens to the back porch and backyard. I'd like to find a way to extend it all out for more space and open up the back door wall to feel more connected to my backyard bbq area. That is an extravagant dream. LoLoL! 😂
I actually would do an add on to the back of my house. What's in my mind to create would give me an extra bedroom and bathroom plus two offices and a sunroom.
Our main bedroom bath. We purchased our home 16 years ago and it still has the same cheap Lowe’s faucets, lighting and ugly characterless cultured white marble countertops. The shower is that low budget fiberglass. I hate our bathroom. 😢
I would add a small (10'x12') formal dining room onto my home to extend the current dining area. I love formal dining rooms and my home that I just bought this year has an "area."
I would increase the size of my Entertainment Room at the back of the house, that opens on to our back deck. I would love to add a library/reading area to the Room and a round card table for making puzzles, playing cards and chess.
❤️I’m a degreed and experienced designer, and find that most “designer” channels are simply nice decorating tips by people who have decent taste. But YOU my dear are clearly the real deal✨I love your insightful and concise videos. Thank you‼️❤️✨
Yes indeed! I really love her style. But I’m a maximalist too! Been following Julie a few years. At least since Covid. I’ve seen her change over the years as her family grows. Reminds me of me and keeps me tuned in!
I follow a number of very talented designers and you are the best. Your videos are so informative with critical basic knowledge, but your creativity and sense of fun is off the charts!
@@JulieKhuuThank you so much! You are totally inspiring and amazing! I have been following your suggestions. Getting rid of a huge coffee table and possibly a big dining table! My space is small (10x12). I have an antique wicker back sofa with a matching arm chair and rocker that I inherited. Spent a lot to have them restored but they’re not even comfortable! Trying to decide whether to recover them with new fabric and chalk paint them or just get rid of them. Completely rearranged my entire living room with a focal wall. It already looks so much better!
This video is like a treasure chest overflowing with designer gems. 25 pro tips, from layering rugs for instant texture (think cozy comfort!) to using unexpected accent colors for a playful pop, will have you transforming your space in no time.
5 years of Julie Khuu-intel boiled down to a single cable-TV episode. 🙌 Future video suggestion: Inspirations for a large, sunken “den” near foyer adjacent an open-concept great room. I could be more specific. 😉
Haha thanks for stopping by David! 🙌🏻🩷 It did take me an entire year to corral this list. I’ve already started this year’s list, let’s see how long it takes me to come up with 25 secrets that I’m willing to share 🤐😂
This was such a surprise! I feel like this has been one of the most unique design videos I've seen. I'm sure I'll be rewatching it a few times! Thank you, Julie!
Hey Julie, not only you are an amazing, talented & epic designer, but you're a great speaker, you simply captivate your audience. 💟Thanks for your videos
Dive into the world of interior design with this video. The host's insights into color palettes, furniture placement and creative decor ideas provide a wealth of inspiration. It's like having a designer mentor guide you through the process of making your home look magazine-worthy.
Dear Julie, I love your bold decisions while creating a room with texture and depth. Love the glossy style! Minimalism is very boring to me. Life is short, play around.
This video spills the beans on 25 decorating secrets used by designers, giving viewers a backstage pass to elevate their home's aesthetic. The straightforward presentation and variety of tips make it easy for anyone to implement these designer tricks and make their space look chic on a budget.
Just wanted to comment that this video got me to subscribe. Thanks for putting it together. I usually just binge your videos every now and then when thinking of a project. Finding genuine interior designer content is REALLY hard - so many out there just feel like basic amateurs or bored housewives that think all their time shopping and collecting "live laugh love" cutesy items makes them an expert. Just chasing trends and nothing but basic decorating tips being sold as "interior design". I find it SO fake and annoying, and its so easy to see through it. I always came back to binge your content for guidelines and ideas because something about it just felt more genuinely interior design. This video cemeted that for me. Thanks again. I know youtube algorithms have been punishing on any non huge channels lately, but just know that the quality of your content is far more valuable imo. So please don't stop!
Love so much of this, Julie. Choose the best space for the job 💙 painting out the trim 💙 wow factor in a powder room 💙💙 glam factor high gloss door or ceiling 💙💙💙 gold lined lampshades! 💙💙 I saw a great artwork tip: 2 large abstract prints ( has to be abstract): one hung right side up, and one upside down, side by side over the sofa. That one has been on my phone for a long time 💙💙💙
This decorating secrets is a must-watch! The tips are so simple yet make a huge difference. I appreciate how the designer breaks down the process, making it accessible for anyone looking to enhance their home decor.
This was your most thorough and thoughtful video by FAR! I love you, your design approach, and your ability to translate tips for. real life. Never stop.
this has the best designing tips! Thank you. I painted my ceiling greyish blue and white walls because I have lots of windows and I think that's the best decision I have made.
This video spilled the beans on some incredible designer secrets that completely changed the way I approach decorating. Learning about the strategic use of lighting and how it impacts a space was a game-changer, instantly elevating the look and feel of my home.
Built a new home, and took guidance from several of your videos. Glad to say it's all blending in so beautifully while keeping your suggestions and our South Asian heritage in check.
Fantastic advice! I especially loved the last one. So many people try to make their homes exactly match a beautiful picture they like and forget to make the room a part of their “home”. Each room should tell others a little bit about yourself. Place that out of place item that is all about you and that stiff room becomes a part of YOUR home. Great advice for all of us. Thank you!
Happy new year! I love the idea of cleaning and organizing at the first of the year vs spring. I usually deep clean and organize in the spring, mostly because of the "spring cleaning" rituals my family practiced. But winter makes more sense to me now, and I'm usually overwhelmed in the spring with outdoor landscaping and decor. Do you have any outdoor or spring time rituals? Or outdoor decor for decks or patios? I'm planning to do something with my deck this spring. I have plants, hopefully they'll survive the winter, fingers crossed. 😊
This video is like a master class. You covered so much! I'm amazed that you revealed many actual secrets that most don't ever explain. I also luv your attitude of respecting individual intention. Your pronunciation is so clear despite talking so fast to cover all the material. I've reviewed quite a few videos, and I must say, your skill, attention to detail, even regarding complicated subjects like kitchen design. It was one of the first videos of yours that I saw. I rarely mess with kitchens, but was doodling a dream house. I remembered I needed a triangle, but couldn't remember the purportions of them. You have a heart for teaching. I really appreciate you. I'm sure these take time to prepare. And you are an active designer too. How do you find time for it all? Another thing that impressed me was when I wanted to understand Feng Shui better, and your video came up in my search on that subject as well. You did a great job, as usual. But best of all was after months of being disgusted with ithers butchering the Wabi Sabi and Japandi, you're one of the few who actually get it right. All in all, your my role model. But here's a secret I need - what search engines do you use that finds chairs based on "liw back" or "high back", or "regency mirror", "Turkish rug", "vegetable dyed wool rug", etc? And another tip, who were your first dozen clients? How did you get started? What are some of the tools that streamline your job for you? And what vlogging equipment would you recommend on a budget to start? I kive in a tropical jungle, literally, so I'll have to get something shipped but there's so many people here that could use a good designer! And none around. But you give me courage and inspiration to try.
Thank you so much for watching! I run a full service interior design studio ☺️ My fav online resource is Pinterest- always curated images and direct shopping links from detailed search terms like the ones you stated. Just watched this video and wow! The tips were so practical and easy to follow. My living room looks like it came straight out of a design magazine now!
The tips on mixing patterns and textures without creating chaos were so practical and easy to implement. I never realized how much attention to detail designers put into creating a cohesive and visually stunning room until watching this eye-opening video.

Happy New Year! Thanks Julie for the free seminar...hahaha. I also watch a couple of other designers but you are the best in explaining, what and how to do it.. it's easy to grasp.
Great info. I would remodel my living room. It's basically the garage that still has the sloped floor. We bought it from someone who built a fireplace in the not-quite-converted room. It was to be our starter home and we've been in it for 30 years and have lots of great memories in that garage! Lol
I love that! 😄 Finally converted my garage into a dedicated design studio after 8 years of living here. It’s never too late to reclaim our spaces Greenie 🙌🏻
Happy New year to you and your family!! Thanks for sharing the interesting info!!!I I have always liked interior design, such a vast and interesting subject!!!👍👍❤️❤️
Thank you - in movies, novelas with beautiful homes, they have a window showing outside landscape but I think it’s a beautiful banner or for me, a picture/ painting of some landscape to give u an open lush look. You are so efficient and classy.
I just picked up a huge landscape art piece that’s sitting in my bedroom now. I look at that piece more than I look outside to my garden it’s so fabulous Lina! 😍 You’re onto something 🙌🏻🩷
You are one of my favorites Julie ! I loved this video but I usually do love all of your videos! Thank you for sharing your knowledge. You daughters are adorable! ❤
I love your channel and the videos you upload but this one is my fave because it gave me affirmations of what we were thinking of doing in our living room. This video really spoke to me and I can't wait to start our project this spring or summer 😊. Thank you for giving inspiration and ideas ❤
Lovvvvveeeee all this deliciousness Julie!!!! Great video!!! I’ve never considered high gloss interior doors!!! Watching your channel and others has propelled me to take up an Interior Decorator course and start doing what I love for fun (Keeping my surgery job of course), but would love to decorate model homes and just have fun and be creative. You’re one of the more talented, creative, and inspiring designers on YT!!!
Fun is the name of the game Jo!! 🙌🏻 Decorating as a side hustle will definitely balance out the super meticulous skilled day job 🏥 it’s not that far off 😂
Happy New Year to you and your family too! As always I enjoyed your video! Excellent content! I love the idea of painting the interior doors high gloss black and the walls, ceilings and base boards all the same color. When doing this, what color should the door jam and trim be? Thank you for sharing. 😊
Door jamb and trim can match the baseboards if you want the door to stand out. If not, I would paint the casing/trim same color as the door to add girth
Julie happy new year 🎉 I wish you and your family an amazing 2024 Thanks for your content always a privilege to watch you talking about design Ahh that amazing bedroom from your previous project just my style I love the idea of low pictures and frame 🥰🥰🥰🥰thank you so much ❤❤❤
Awww Julie! How DO you do it? Once again this video is chock FULL of great practical advice- thank you! I’m a budding interior designer as a new career and you inspire me soooo much! Happy New Year!
Love this, I already had some of these in mind, painting the doors, turning my boring wc glam/dramatic, moulding, huge wall art etc. I just don’t know how to go about these things! Esp as I’m on a budget
Thank you for so much information! I am particularly excited because I have solved a molding dilemma, which has been troubling me. I live in a basement apartment where the door opens right into the living space. My style was once defined as “country contemporary”, which I find fitting! I lean more modern, and have since become more cottage than country. I have what I consider tall ceilings for the first time ever, at nine feet. I really wanted wall molding, but it all seemed too “cottagey” to me. Today I had my “That’s it!” moment. In the applied molding section of the video, the very first image is what I want! Just simple great big boxes. The walls in my space are all broken up by doors, openings, windows, a weird floor to ceiling niche, (maybe for a “future” fireplace chimney?? It was a once a single family dwelling.), a jut out niche; so it is already divided into boxes. I’m excited! Thank you for sharing your knowledge,Julie. And kudos to your staff for all the support they provide in helping all of your videos to be so visually appealing
Yay, awesome Jeanne Marie! Once you’re ready to take the plunge, look for more “board & batten” inspiration- that might help you devise a strategy for the molding “boxes” 🙌🏻
Whoa Julie, jackpot on design ideas, thank you!!! 🩷 What are your feng shui thoughts on ceiling beams for a slanted ceiling? Love the wallpaper idea on a ceiling; is there a guideline as to pattern & color for a slanted & textured ceiling? Happy new year!! 🎋🐲🎊
I have vaulted beams in my MCM home, it’s blasted white in the common areas and I added grasscloth to the guest bathroom. The beams are raw and stained in my garage studio- lots of different options to change up the look from room to room!
@@JulieKhuu Crazy, I was just now watching one of your recent amazing videos! Wish I could afford hiring you. Thank you for always making time to answer my questions. 🫰🏼
Love how you placed that ofc desk facing the 2-doors. Thinking making a window to a door facing garden. What do you think? Worth the trouble? This room is too dark for me.
Sounds lovely, you might want to start with a beautiful landscape painting and some strategic lighting first? See if it’s still too dark then the window idea would be an awesome upgrade Lina! 👍
I accidentally did what Julie recommended and purchased my living room rug first for my color palette. Yay! (can't take credit for it - it just worked that way)
Juliee, yoU have such a great feng shui assistant, same with your feng shui for your outfits and presentation. I was wondering where do you shop too? Lots of love xoxxoxkxk

Wow! Another "home run" of a video!!! So much delicious content! Terrific!
Thank you Stella! Happy new year 🥳🥂✨
Happy New Year to you and your family too!
Loved this video Julie. You really started 2024, with a WOW!!! 🤩

Love this, I already had some of these in mind, painting the doors, turning my boring wc glam/dramatic, moulding, huge wall art etc. I just don’t know how to go about these things! Esp as I’m on a budget
This is decorating gold! I learned so much!

Just love you Julie. You help me soooo much. TY ✌🏼
Great advice on a lot of things…and you gave me the courage to try it!
You can do it Harrie! Design can always be undone, refined, modified… have fun with it! 🙌🏻
Thank you , 😍I wish one day you can help me design my house! Happy New year to you and your family!

Yay! (can't take credit for it - it just worked that way)
That is awesome! You’ve been manifesting a clear design strategy all along! 🙌🏻😄
