  • If you've got a drift go kart and want to make it more fun then these mods are for you! They allow more angle while drifting as well as turning your standard braking system into a handbrake for big entries or even assisting in holding your line. Hope you guys enjoy!

    The wheel lift when steering is because of the positive caster, I have a kart by the same company as the other one except it is made to look like a nascar not an Indy car

    • @GavinFS
      @GavinFS  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're exactly right! I have adjustments I can make that way I have less lift when I steer because it honestly bugs me haha. Dude that's awesome! Do you know by chance what the company's name is that made the karts? Because we've been trying to find out for a while and we never saw any branding on the kart and couldn't find anything on it online, all I knew was that they had Briggs and Stratton motors.

    • @andrewcless1250
      @andrewcless1250 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The positive caster is to lift the rear inside tire when turning to reduce under steer caused by a live axle, as well as to make the kart stable at high speed by making the front wheels want to naturally stay straight. You only need as much as it takes to keep the front wheels straight, since you don’t need to lift the rear inside tire to turn because of the drift sleeves. I have a second kart that is a vintage margay race kart that I have drift sleeves on. The company was formerly called Motorsports Promotions INC, now called Promo Karts. Your kart probably had a plate with their name and it’s serial number riveted to the frame but it probably fell off as mine was about to when I bought it. Mine also had the same wheels and steering wheel as yours when I bought it. I believe their karts were primarily used for giveaways and raffles. Their karts look slightly different now, using different parts, so I would imagine it’d be hard to ID the kart without the serial number plate. Yours doesn’t have a live axle right (making it only one wheel drive)? Mine was like that but I converted it to have a live axle.

    • @GavinFS
      @GavinFS  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      When I make the adjustments to take some of the positive caster away, it won't be enough to take make it completely level so I'll always have some positive caster. Even though I'm not going to be tracking the kart, I'm just going to be drifting it. Agreeing with you, the need for the lift of the outside rear tire wouldn't help me but the fact that the positive caster helps bring the steering back to center and keep the wheels strait provides nice force feedback for transitioning drifts. Awesome! Thanks for informing me about this, hopefully we can find some more parts for the kart! Yea ours is 1wd, my friend who owns the kart didn't want to convert to a live Axel. Maybe someday he will but as of right now he didn't want to.

      Also, I plan on making another video on the indy kart soon. Can shout you out as my source of information for the company that makes theses karts and the history of the company?

    • @andrewcless1250
      @andrewcless1250 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah no problem, I just saw in another video the serial number plate is still intact on the floor pan, the logo probably rubbed off though, I think it was only painted on not, stamped like the serial number

      Hey Dennis, we used the existing belt that came with the kart for the project, but the belt we have for the kart should be a 23T, 1 1/4" cog belt and we used the clutch from gopowersports that fit it perfectly. Here's the Clutch: @t

    Hey so I have a go kart that used to be an old Coleman ck100s and I got it from auction and took out the old motor and out a predator 212 on it. I’ve always wanted a drift kart but the chasis is built for off-road. What is your advice to get sideways (tires, sprocket size or angle kits?) and is there an easy way to get the low oil sensor out because engine keeps cutting out when I do tight turns

    • @GavinFS
      @GavinFS  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cool kart dude! Because the chassis is built for offroad doesn't mean you can't drift it. As long as you get pvc sleeves that will slip over your tires, then you can drift. For typical drift karts, we deflate the tires a little to fit the sleeves over and then once we slip them on, you pump up the tires enough to hold the pvc from slipping off. The tires shouldn't matter too much, as long as you have enough angle to hold bigger drifts. There isn't an ideal sprocket size you should be running but it's probably better to run a smaller sprocket to provide a higher gear ratio. Typically with a higher gear ratio/smaller sprocket you need to manage you throttle more especially for smaller drifts. There aren't any angle kits, basically it's diy for whoever wants to get into driftkarting. You would need to go to a homedepot or a harbor freight to get some stainless steel to extent the distance of the mounting of the tie rods from the steering shaft because the more the tie rods travel, the more angle you will get. Depending on how your spindles are mounted, some cutting and grinding might be required for even more angle if it's what you want. Also, I'm not sure why your predator is cutting out, I haven't taken out the oil sensor I just cut the wires that went to it, does your motor have mods?

      @@GavinFS i have a cold air intake and straight pipe exhaust. I removed the cable that is attached to the low oil sensor now so its running great but now the carb is leaking gas. Where can I get PVC sleeves?

    • @GavinFS
      @GavinFS  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@christiansabbagh1553 ok gotcha. Make sure you get that fixed bc leaking gas is dangerous. But yea for pvc sleeves I've always bought them from online sites and trying to find the cheapest ones and there isn't a good site to get them from for under $40 for a pair. I was told by my friend that you can buy 2 or 3 feet of 10 inch pvc for around $30 which is a lot better deal bc you can make multiple sleeves for less money you just have to cut them. I have yet to try it but I'm sure you could call a pluming company and get a quote and see if it's cheaper or not.

    These mods look cool how much did it cost all together?

    • @GavinFS
      @GavinFS  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Once you flip the brake master around and make a handle, the prices can vary depending on how you want it to look and what it's make from but for me making it with the pipe costed around $12-15 (w/hardware). For the angle mod, I got a piece of stainless that costed probably $8-10 (w/hardware) and then I cut and drilled it which I had the tools already.

    Where did you buy this on eBay or Craigslist? Also whats the cc and if I was going to buy one what should I look for?

    • @GavinFS
      @GavinFS  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I actually got this kart from offerup for $350. It's hard to find nice karts at that price rn so I would look for a cheap frame and build it up because it's much less expensive than buying a complete one, plus you can have more customization and run into less issues with old parts wearing down. I typically look at offerup or facebook marketplace and I get pretty good deals from there. Also the kart is a Predator 212cc and I've never been disappointed. I'd suggest to get a Predator 212cc from harbor freight because they are very reliable, they only cost $100-120 which is a good price for what you're getting compared to most engines. Also Predator 212cc engines have a wide variety of performance parts from gopowersports, ombwarehouse, bmi parts, etc. On these sites you can find kits and accessories for you kart too, not just engine performance parts. If you need me to clarify anything else, or if you have any more questions feel free to ask.
