    14.4 Isn't horrible given a windy day and the aerodynamics of a brick. When I put the 454 in the wife's 1978 C-10 nearly 3 decades ago, we didn't have an OD transmission or EFI. I ended up swapping the 3.73 rear end for a 3.08 geared unit, and put a heavy secondary spring on the Holley 3310. Cruising at 70 MPH, 12 MPG was a solid number, corrected for the tire size and gear change. If you're cruising at 1800 RPM, those numbers should come up as things settle in.

      I did another run yesterday with no wind and got the mpg's up to 15.5. I thing once I fine tune the EFI I should be able to get an economy tune saved for travel. But I do see 3.23's or 3.55's in my future as well.

      @@OldeCarrGuy unless you plan on a lot of towing, I think the 3.23 rear gear with the 700R4 will make for a happy combination and net the best fuel economy you can hope for. We've had diesel trucks with 3.55 gears, 32" tall tires and a 0.72:1 overdrive that got great fuel economy, but the diesel had the torque to pull all those numbers.

    As long as you don't call it the petrol station...glad you Canadians still call it a gas station. 2100 at 80mph is pretty impressive! We've been having some crazy wind here lately too.

    I'm curious as to why you didn't just get a tank for a 1987 EFI truck? You can then get the sender/fuel pump hanger that mounts in the usual location and a bucket in the bottom of the tank to help with fuel slosh.

    • @OldeCarrGuy
      @OldeCarrGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Simple answer is the efi system was a sponsorship frim Fitech and they don't offer a direct replacement for the factory sending unit. That's why i went with the new tank an reused my original gas guage and installed a new pump. Thanks for watching.

    Just a quick question, do you have the original steering column and seat in there? You seem to have a lot of room between yourself and the steering wheel?

    • @OldeCarrGuy
      @OldeCarrGuy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Pieter. The steering wheel and column is stock, but the seat is out of a 88-98 GM work truck. I did a video on the seat conversion. th-cam.com/video/xVtSRXkJlDw/w-d-xo.html

    You just wont get good gas mileage on a 77 chevy truck. 14 or so is pretty good for what your driving. If you want better mpg, put a 250 cid inline six cylinder engine in it.
