- In this video I show you how I fixed the issue I was having connecting my Blackmagic Ultrastudio mini to my MacBook pro. I was getting a message that said No video devices detected in the ultra studio desktop software. Problem solved. Hope this helps someone. Subscribe.

Thank You A. Dubb. That helped me tremendously. I switched computers, but I had the same exact set up. I had it on HDMI on the previous one but for some reason this one reads the blackmagic as SDI. don't understand but it worked so I'm good.

Thank you for taking the time! I was going round and round in circles trying to figure this out for my live stream.
I haven't used our livestreaming equipment for 2 years because of COVID but I pull it out of storage and it no longer worked. I updated Black Magic Desktop Video, Media Express and OBS Studio. Connected everything and the white light is blazing but not connection. Followed the steps in this video and still nothing. I checked MacOS and it needed some updates and BOOM - device connected and blazing ahead. Thought might be able to help for those that hit my dead end.

Haha, I have my old GH4 connected via the UltraStudio capture, same as you. Went thru all the same issues. It works in Media Recorder, Zoom, and Quicktime. However, Facetime doesn't see it at all. Any clue why? I'm on a Mac Pro (trashcan) and have a Logitech webcam that FT does see.
The tricks I had to learn on my own was to set Media Recorder input prefs to 1080P 23.96fps do get video (even though Zoom & QT worked fine).... Then I couldn't get sound. I had to set Blackmagic Desktop Video in system prefs, Conversions set to SD to HD, otherwise you don't get sound in Media Recorder.
I wound up using an external Mic in Zoom and QT. There's no option for an external mic in Media Recorder, so it kind of sucks with a UltraStudio Mini (you have to use the camera mic).... you have to spend way more on the Mini HD or higher.
I have successful done a few live-streams with the mini recorder and a usb mic but I can’t remember the setting exactly off hand. No I use the atem mini by blackmagic. It just works. I’d highly suggest you look into getting one. It just works. It’s the best investment of the year for live streaming or games in my opinion. Thanks for watching.

Thanks for recording and posting this. AS far as the glitching is concerned I'm still looking for a fix to that. The video and sound signal blink and skip. I'm using the same set up as you are only its a 2012 MBP running Catalina.

Bummer, i did not work for me. I have a NEW mac book pro and an older Ultra Studio Mini Recorder. I m trying to use the TB2 to TB3 convertor with it. No luck, any suggestions?

Hello where did you get the thurderbolt cable? Is it Thunderbolt to USB cable or Thurnderbolt to Thunderbolt cable? I could not get the cable :(
Hey man. Thanks for the upload. Man I’ve been having a problem where my Mac wouldn’t read the mini-recorder. I’ve tried redownloading it so many times and tried to change the security on my Mac, like you suggested, and still nothing poped up. I’m so stressed lol please if there’s any other way to complete this, it would be great. Thanks

The Real Jon Waters I’ll try it when I’m back in town on Monday. I’m on a birthday trip. I’m sure it’ll work. It’s a little glitchy when you adjust it with the software open. Sometimes i have to close it and open it again. The main thing is making sure the camera setting and the setting of the ultrastudio match. Ex: 1080 at 30fps or 760 at 24fps. But I’ll make a short vid for you when i get back. I’m sure it’ll work.

When I go to system preferences I never got a box to click on to trust the device. My cable is plugged in and the light is on.

Today I received my Ultrastudio Recorder 3g.I have done the installation as in the videos, but I can not see it on the mac.I have Mojave 10.14.6 system.I connect the recorder through a thunderbolt cable and then Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 adapter. I have installed the 12.0 and 11.6 software, uninstalling and reinstalling everything ... I have given the accessibility of the Desktop application permissive... I don't know what else to do ... any help please ... ?? Thanks and greetings from Spain

Im not sure. If it is working then it is not reason to be concerned. That might be the mini recorder's way of processing information.

OBS is fun to play around with- but I switched to MimoLive for all mission critical stuff, small fee for personal use- way less headaches than OBS
Sean Deminski i e never heard of that program but I’m sure it’s great if it works for you BUT, nothing beats free. Unless that program does something significantly better why would one pay for something that they can get for free?
@@adubbproductions Reliability, updates, support- there are some things that beat free ;-) OBS is great for at home stuff- and a great way to get started! I was doing some live conference work and constantly running into issues with OBS. There's a reason why other similar programs are $700-$1,000, fortunately OBS has all the same features for free, I just don't recommend it for professional use.

Allan, great video but alas no luck on my end. i uninstalled and download software. reinstalled. and during the reinstall it asked for me to allow. i selected allow and it finished the install. then it rebooted.. but when i launched the Desktop video it still says no desktop video device detected. HELP?
Do you have the Ultra Studio Mini Recorder plugged in via thunderbolt when you are opening the Black Magic software? Or maybe you don't have the most updated driver?

but I couldn’t. it was not detected. I used thunderbolt 3 cable with Blackmagic Converter Setup ..but it shows FIX USB -C Problems in windows...plz solve my issue
It sounds like you might have have usb issues with your actual computer. I am not sure. You should contact black magic and see if they have ever heard of that issue. Thanks for watching.

What driver should I download and install?
Led light not showing after update software.. any solutions ?
So you updated the software and now when you plug in your ultra studio your not getting and led light?? Correct?
That sounds like it might be a power issue. Is the cable connected properly?
Did you drop and possibly damage the unit?
The led light should come on if the thunder bolt cable is plugged in regardless of any software i think.
The led light i think just symbolizes that your unit is getting power. You may have to contact black magic if it’s not powering on.

Thanks, that helped me find the answer. Note that the security message only sits there for about 30minutes, then goes away so you won't have any clue as to why it doesn't work!
Now I know the problem, I also found that Black Magic do have a reference to it here....

Hey Sarah. I believe the web presenter is black Magic’s other device(hardware) not a downloadable application(software) like OBS. But i could be wrong. But i didn’t buy the web presenter box. I thought about it and I do still want it but i settled for the Ultrastudio mini.
But if you where referring to me downloading OBS(software to present my livestream to the web) then yes i did download it and you can too. It’s free. Did that answer your question?

What camera are you using and what are you video output settings?
my mac is not seeing the ultrastudio at all
Once you installed it is the black magic (desktop studio) in your launchpad with all your other installed apps?
It's possible you're using and older mac that has a mini displayport, which looks the same as a thunderbolt port, but isn't fast enough to accept a signal from the blackmagic. I had this problem and it had me banging my head against the wall.

No problem. It’s your hdmi cable. Get another hdmi cable and please tell me if that works. That solved it for me. And please drop me a sub if you don’t mind. I had a long one and a short one. My long hdmi just randomly started glitching. Switched to the short one and it works every time. I’m gonna get a longer one again but not a cheap one. Maybe a better gauge if they even have that. Higher information transfer rate or what ever they would call it for hdmi. Try it save your receipt and Let me know if it works. Don’t forget to subscribe.

Hmm. What message is it saying? Tell me exactly how you have everything connected. Also do you have the hdmi selected in the mini re order software?
Did you ever at any point get it to display video?
A-Dubb Productions The software is on hdmi and yes it did work one time. Its connected with thunderbolt from macbook pro to mini recorder. Mini recorder - hdmi. Hdmi to hdmi adapter to micro hdmi in to my camera. Does it maybe need a special hdmi cable?
I tried different hdmi cables. High speed hdmi, high speed with ethernet hdmi all didnt work. Just once did a cable worked of a friend of my. Its like it doest recognise my camera.
What year MacBook Pro? I have a 2018. Anybody know if converters will work with UltraStudio Mini Recorder?
My macbook is Mid 2015. I really don't know if a converter will work.

Ultrastudio are the most unreliable devices anyone can find. They work with one system but then fail. It should not be like this. Blackmagic is garbage!!!!!

I thought I did show my screen. A lot of other people figured it out in the video judging by the comments. Maybe i didn’t do it to your liking but I’m not perfect man. I would advise you to contact blackmagic. Maybe they can do it better.
