- In this one I’m literally putting my money where my mouth is and buying not one, but two #Mirka sanders to use as a long-term test. I purchased these with my own money - got to spend those TH-cam millions somehow - but I did receive a discount from MirkaUK; after the test conclusion in 6-12 months, the #MirkaDeros and #MirkaDeos will be given away to 10MinuteWorkshop Plus members. Enjoy!

Love all my Mirka equipment have had it all for about 3 years. Customer service is top notch as well.
All nice tools, my basement is also full of them. But looking at the material prices, my hobby is more likely to be „watching woodworking videos on TH-cam“ rather than woodworking. Even plain 19mm MDF costs 25€/m2 at the moment in Germany, it’s just crazy.
I have had a Deros for about the past 8 years and I agree with Kieran, its a dream to use. I purchased one of the original models and had a couple of issues after about 18 months but Mirka sent one of the updated models, with no quibbles, and its has been brilliant. It gets used most days and the results are always excellent. The dust management is absolutely first rate. Expensive yes, effective yes, would I change it for another make NO!
I love my Mirka Deros! I love the dust collection - very little dust. Small, light weight and very little vibration too. Also love the option of buying the 5 inch pad so I have the option of a 5 inch and 6 inch sander in one.
I've had my mirka for about 2 years. I love how small, powerful and lightweight it is. It is so good it may even make you like sanding (as was the case with my teenage son).
Enjoyed the video as ever.. Just made the same jump as you from Festool to the Mirka.. Really like the compact nature of the Does. Been using the older Deros for a while now and that has been great, used it on everything from sanding walls to work tops and its pretty dust free.. Look forward to seeing how you find them both..
Brilliant, thank you Peter for the mention, lots of people heading over already which is incredible 😀😀👍👍. Couldn’t agree more with the section about getting the sander in your hand if possible when spending this kind of cash. If I’m being totally honest and if most people did that, they’d justify the extra cost for the Mirka just on the ‘feel’ of it alone 👍😀
Cheers Leo! Yes, have to say for the 'sander in the hand' the Mirka wins that argument all day long! 👍
Got my first Festool product today. The RTS 400. I was in doubt for a week. Holding to my hard earned money until finally I decided to buy the sander. I bought it after watching you testing it in the "Festool vs. cheap tool" video. I realised today how little I knew about high end tools. The sander was expensive but it is a beast. I love it.
Many thanks to you. Best regards
My favourite sander. Enjoy! 👍
Peter, I was just watching your video, "Time, Tools, & Money" about the cost of tools to do a job in a day. To quote a friend in Men in Sheds (I am a trustee of the local Shed), "I'm not just charging you for the one day I took to do the job, I'm also charging you for the 15 years I took to learn to do it in one day"!
@Peter Millard: Great video, as usual. About the speed control on the flappy pedal - you can look at it as a soft start kind of deal. When you started sanding with the rectangular festool, as soon as you made contact with the board it wanted to slip out of your hands because it was already at full speed. That's where I see the benefit of a slower start.
Interesting, thanks! I’ve never done it any other way, I’ll give the slow start a try! Thanks! 👍
brilliant comparison Peter, thank you.
I’ve had Mira Deros over 18 months now and I have to say it’s an absolute dream to use, not one single issue with it there’s nothing you can not sand with this machine so light and responsive. I’ve had a metabo 150mm orbital for the last 10 years and only had to change the pad after about 8 years again a superb machine, but the Mirka is streets ahead and with the mesh discs virtually no dust 👍
Thank you for a quality review!
Someday I will definitely get myself a deos 385. This is amazing equipment. The lightest grinder in its class. This allows even people with weak hands to grind better and with more pleasure from work. Maintaining the health of the arms, hands and joints is very important. An investment in a tool is the most important investment for a craftsman!
I thoroughly enjoyed that. Thanks Peter
Thanks for the shout Peter. Good luck with the Mirka and I look forward to seeing your thoughts on the little one, I'm quite tempted to pick one of those up myself!
Cheers Josh, great to meet you! Yes, the little one is really nice in the hand; can see myself wanting to keep that one! 😂 👍
I’m into property maintenance coving most aspects of renovation.
Had plenty of cheap sanders and extractors that never truly gave me what I wanted until I found the mirka sanders at d&m tool show.
I bought the two you have. Took me an age to get to grips with the paddle and also had a few cock ups picking them up when I thought they was turned off.
But time went by and they was great.
The deros went bang first just after the warranty expired so I replaced it then both went wrong in the same week.
The parts prices makes the a throw away tool.
I truly look after my tools and know how to use them so felt very let down by the mirka and now don’t recommend them.
I do also know 3 other people that’s had the same problem.
Festool sanders for me now and do own a rts400 the same vintage as the one you have and it’s used most days and at times most of the day and it still runs sweet.
Hopefully you still have something to give away Peter🤣
Yep, I mentioned all that in the Deros video I linked to here - links to Keith and Leo’s vids in the description too - and the comments in my deros vid were pretty much split between reflecting your experience, and ‘I’ve had it for XXX years and it’s been perfect…’ 🤷♂️ So this is me , giving it a shot with my own cash. Keep you posted! 👍
@@10MinuteWorkshop I’m guessing I was shocked it happened as I really do look after all my tools.
Time will tell Peter and hopefully after the year I’ll use them for another😂😂. On a serious note I truly hope they work well for you as I had some real good days enjoy the ease they put into a working day. But I will say I suffer less now with my hands then I did with the mirka. Festool are very smooth.
Keep up the great work you do 👍
Thank you for all the lessons I enjoy it
"flatty paddle phobia" great! I have the Deros and it's probably just getting used to working with it. Greetings from Schaumburg Germany
Thanks you! Best wishes from London! 👍
I guess you were told at Mirka: When it comes to vibration, the counterweight at least at the Deros is set for Mirka Mesh sanding disks. If you use heavier paperback disks on a regular base, you should adjust the weight with the small Allen head screws that you can find in the systainer.
PS: as mirkas origins are in the automotive sector, the floppy pedal comes in handy when you sand on round shapes, so you can dail the speed down for less abrasion on a small spot.
Or as leazy woodworker - use it for quick n' dirty rounded corners...
The flapy pedal is originally from pnumatic random orbit sander. And the work really well in car panel work. I think they will work just as wall in electrical
This is good. I took your Deros concerns on board, and did a ton of reading, and found it was only woodworkers in a certain time period that had switch issues. I've had mine two years now and can be on it for 6-8 hrs some days. The only issue I've had is the mains leads packing up, but Mirka now do rewirable leads, and with them it's so far, so good (my original lead and my intergrated hose lead both died). The replacement leads are quite affordable, so bought two so I always have a backup, and have hacked my hose lead to be a female socket for any tool to attach to.
Anyway, it's good that you're going to do a thorough test. Just noting the difference in the sanding patterns is a big thing. I remember your side by side test a while back and also in terms of dust extraction the Deros with Abranet was hard to beat.
Thanks! Yes, no,issues at al, with dust extraction, though I’d suggest that outstanding dust collection, low weight and vibration, great handling etc… are table-stakes at this kind of level. 👍👍
For once I don't follow your advice - and I purchased my two Mirkas, 5650 and 663 a few years ago.
I have been very happy with both sanders and hasn't had any issues with them.
I wish you the best with your new sanders, and I hope you will get to appreciate them as much as I have.
Thanks! To be clear, I’ve no issue with Mirka or the Deros per se, just that I know too many guys who’ve had problems with it after a very short period and very light use. 🤷♂️👍
Surfprep sells foam backed sand papers for mirka for sanding coutours and profiles.
Thank you Peter, I have been considering the Mirka sanders for some time now, not that I'm unhappy with my Festool ones, so I will follow this carefully , as always stay safe and well, thanks again.
Good video. I've been using Mirka for about 3 years. Superb. I like the paddle control personally. Much prefer this to the Festool.
Quite good demonstration in the beginning. For a second i thought my WiFi had some Problems 😂 very good Video, Peter. Thanks!
Sanding everyone’s love. I have a Bosch GET55-125 at 2.5kg heavy and I think it only has a 1.75mm stroke. However it has a switch for direct drive which fixes the random orbit for heavy duty stock removal. I have been please with with.
I stuck to the 125 size so I did not have to have 125 and 150 consumables
Yes, that's the Bosch Rotex-alike; solid sanders, but not lightweight! 💪 👍
@@10MinuteWorkshop a bit like myself Peter 😆
Great vid Peter, I’ve had mine for 6 years or so now. I’m a dad first and foremost that does as much for 3 homes as I can (2 sons and my own)I came into the Mirka range out of needing a good industrial sander for my first fit out of my sons salon. Now on my second and yes retirement is only a word! I bought the corresponding Mirka dust extraction vac at the same time at a very affordable price for the two. It’s been an absolute workhorse including 600 square feet of oak floor. Dust extraction on the horizontal is first class. Paddle switch is a bit marmite - sometimes I love. Initially went out deliberately to purchase Festool based on this channel but common sense and my wallet made the final decision. Is it better than Festool I really can’t say only that it has worked very hard for me over the years giving me very good results. Love this channel - thank you. Best regards Mike
Thanks Mike! Yes, I'll see how it goes with these two; I know guys who have had them for years without issues, and other who've had them fail in months after very light use. 🤷♂️ 👍
Back in the 90s, I had a summer job at a boat builders, sanding yacht hulls. We used air tools exclusively; battery tech wasn't there yet and air was better than mains electricity.
I'd completely forgotten about that until now. It seems an air sander plus compressor would be cheaper than the Mirka sanders, especially if you're buying two, and extra especially if you've already got the compressor for your nail gun.
For something like a nailer, a small compressor is fine, but for anything like a sander then you need a huge compressor to keep up with the demands, so not really an option. 👍
@@10MinuteWorkshop then I'm glad I asked! 3M do a RO sander for about the same price as the Festool, that looks like the Deros. It seems to be getting good reviews.
I normally get blue Bosch tools, but I'll break ranks if another manufacturer makes a better offering for a better price.
I like that the Mirka units are not as tall. It means you are less likely to put pressure on one side of the pad, key when doing edges as it is another thing that will help you prevent rounding them.
Oh, I like the lower profile too, sorry if that wasn’t clear! Feels better in the hand and a much more natural grip. 👍
My cheap Parkside sander came with interchangeable bases, one rectangular and one round. I must admit, I've never even taken the rectangular one out the box!
I just got the 3M sander. I haven't had a chance to use it yet, but I did turn it on just to see. And the comfort compared to my dewalt random orbital sander was pretty obvious. But clearly, there's a large following for Mirka. But as an Xtract 3M sand paper fan, I'm grateful that Mirka's patent on mesh sandpaper expired - giving us Xtract from 3M. Funny how we all get so attached to our tools :)
I bought the 3M too. I have the Mirka Deros, but its been repaired 3 times (the control board). Repairs have been under warranty and out of warranty. Parts are very expensive. This is why I have the 3M Xtract Electric Random Orbital Sander. Time will tell on reliability, but the sander is impressive in use. I also have the RO 150 FEQ-Plus, a very different machine for different tasks. As you can see I am not a brand fan, I appreciate quality tools that do the job they are designed for. I want to make investments that last and give great service. This is where the Mirka Deros has been disappointing for me, I'm hoping 3M proves to be a great buy.
Love your work 👍
Very interesting PM nice initial demonstration/comparison I agree that the paddle control looks a little awkward to control speed
Your thumbnail game is on point Peter
I've been on a course... 😂
Mate, you're holding them both incorrectly causing an imbalance in the sanding pressures. The heads on both are designed to fit in your palm for even pressure. Otherwise an excellent video. Thank you for taking the time to make it.
I love the rts 400, dust control/vibration superb, not so keen on the height, Flex have bought out the OSE 2-80 EC (brushless), haven't found it in UK yet but its more compact than the Rts, doesn't have festool plug-it though ☹️ if the paddle gets on you nerves especially with accidental turn ons when I had the Metabo green deros I taped it with masking, just used the on/off button then, as a decorator I could flip it around and change hands when the sanding burn set it doing ceilings and walls, used to get annoying with the paddle but the deros lookalike did a superb sanding job and I had a reliable one.
Interesting thanks - never heard of Flex tools before, looks good though. Yes, I taped up the paddle, but have got used to it now. 👍
Just in case no ones mentioned it - it looks like you're using mesh sandpaper (looks like Granat Net?) without pad savers (protection pad) - your sanding pad will thank you if you do use them. Good luck with the long term test - great to see you tubers of your calibre, commit to the only sort of test that's really worthwhile for people considering this level of equipment.
Not a fan of pad-savers, personally - I don't like the layer of softness they add - but that's all part of the long-term test, how do the pads hold up over 6-12 months of use without a pad saver?? 👍
@@10MinuteWorkshop That depends on how much, and how you use them - if you're using them for a few hours every day and perhaps bearing down on them a little, then those little hooks are going to wear down fairly quickly. I've never done a controlled test, but when I first started using Abranet (a few years back now and without a pad saver), I remember being decidedly irked when the hook and loop grip started to fail way to early for my liking, and I had to buy a new backing pad. A pad saver costs around £4/4.50, a 150mm backing pad (for the Deros) around £35/40 - for me the pad savers are a no brainer. The marginal extra softness the pad saver gives, doesn't create a problem for me.
A possible solution for you, would be to switch to 3M 775L cubitron ii discs - you may lose a little where dust extraction is concerned - but no need for a pad saver, and I suspect you'll get significantly more sanding done with a single cubitron ii disc than an Abranet one.
Out of interest, did you give the Festool ETS EC 150 a try, before buying into Mirka? And a top tip with the Deros, is don't drive it too hard - it rewards a lighter touch. I made the mistake of lending my first one to a client - even after detailed instructions and a demonstration, they managed to burn it out (the speed controller is the first thing that fails) by running it at top speed and bearing down on it too heavily.
My view is that even though the Deros wins on ergonomics - the Festool wins on solid engineering, being able to run it all day and that pad break clinches the deal.
Thanks for all the time and effort you put into these videos, you deserve the many subscribers you have. 🙂
i used an orbital sander for a while then went back to manual sanding with the paper and cork block, I find it easier and you are in control more, perhaps the only issue is dust but saying that since its manual it does not blow all over the place like a machine one and you can at times slant your work piece and the dust drops to the top/floor. Maybe one of those fancy yellow sanders ( Mirca I think its called) might be my next move , but they are not cheap. Also manual on the edge is better I think, you just adjust the sandpaper harshness if need to be (say 80 to 150 grit for example)
Mirka sanders are the ones I’m using in this video.
I am not sure if someone has already commented on this but another significant difference in between your Festool sanders and the Mirka ones is the fact that your new Mirka kit is brushless: the noise and vibration must be much quieter / smooth even if did not make mention of that. Everything that I have read about it points out the new 3M sander as the machine to beat when all is taking into account inc price - shame its power cord is not detachable. I’ll keep making do with my old Bosch stuff until they break down. I would love watching someone taking all these sanders apart and do a review on its internals assembly and engineering for the sake of longevity!
I’ve just replaced my Ceros after 12 years. Now using a Deros. I run a one man professional furniture/cabinet business. I’ll keep buying Mirka Sanders as long as they’re around. I’ve used everything else and they are the best. Hands down.
I put a Neutrix socket connector on my Deros like most of my other tools.
The Deros love the paddle switch, hate the crappy quality non flexible cable that you can’t easily change because Mirka have their own socket. Soldered on a Neutrik socket, looks like shit but works a treat. I would be tempted to swap out my Festool sander for another Mirka because l find the Festool a bit top heavy, when using over head. But l not spending £450 to then swap out the socket and invalidate the warranty. 🎉
Love the Mirka sanders.Just can't get use to the flap switch.Good presentation.
Same re the flappy paddle. I may tape it up and just use the buttons. 👍
Peter, had these for years, never understood why you didn't like them so interested to see how you get on. Heads up, you can buy different pads for the Deos including a longer one....
Would be interesting replacing the pads on the festool sanders to make a clear comparison?
Nice thumbnail 😀!
Great vid Peter. I have the RTS400 and it's awesome, unfortunately couldn't justify the extra for the Deros, and went for the Metabo Random orbital sander identical to the Deros, but only paid £290. Well pleased although there is something appealling about the yellow marketing that grabs my eyes!
Thanks! To the best of my knowledge, the Metabo is the pre-bluetooth version of the Deros. 👍
I do not trust myself with a powersander on the edges. I use the deros for the large areas and Mirka's handsander (it is more or less a block shape, but using the same round sandpaper pads as the deros), with its dustextraction, for the edges.
I wouldn’t fancy the multi cam edit you must have done in this one Peter!
Not that I could afford a Mirka but one test I’d love someone to do is figuring out the vibrations between a budget and the non budget beasts.
No idea what such a test would look like but as someone with arthritis it would be bloody good to know
4 cameras and a phone! 🤦♂️ When I did my RTS400 vs Bosch sander vid I used smarties to show the vibration differences. The blue ones were the worst… 😂👍
In woodworking, sanding just rubs me the wrong way. 🙃
Still love my My 5" PC brushless motor. Fits my Festool style hose perfectly as well.
Looking forward to your long term use and review. review.
Yes indeed these Mirkas are damn pricey. There is an alternative with the 3M sander but in all honesty it is almost as expensive. I used a round version of the Mirka earlier this year and agree that the toggle flap is very cumbersome to try to vary the speed. It is not easy to vary since the range is so tiny. A simple adjustable knob would be better. Perhaps this flap works better for car refinishing? Aside from the price I found the Mirka round sander to be pretty similar to others I have used. I cannot say it out performed by any stretch. I honestly have yet to meet someone who loves them. But hopefully we will see as Peter uses the sander over the next few months.
Been using Mirka sanders, I’m my professional shop, for 13 years. I’ve used the rest. No comparison.
Excellent delivery and content Peter. I’m still using my Parkside sanders so very interested in an upgrade.
Thanks David! 👍
After a lot of internal back and forth on the Deros due to reliability concerns, I bought one at the beginning of the year. It is my favorite sander I have, but the ets ec is no slouch either, I just think the Deros is a comfortable sander to run.
After purchasing the Deros I was trying to find a way to justify the Deos. I also replaced a 10yr old RTS last December with a new RTS. Yet I did still consider the Deos because the height of the sander versus the RTS is appealing. plus I'd get a spare plug assuming that they are interchangeable like Festool lol.
In the end the Mirka pricing structure on the Deos for the USA seems whack and is the deterrent. Mirka is usually the more expensive option in the States compared to Festool, except for drywall Sanders. But the Deos is listed at $507 without a systainer versus the $289 RTS with systainer. It just doesn't make sense for me atm out of principle that you can almost buy two RTS's for one Deos lol.
Anyway I'll be interested in your opinion on the Deos after you've logged some hours.
Thanks! Yeah, Deos pricing is a little nuts everywhere it seems, about half as much again here as the RTS. 🤔
See Peter Millard's new "art workshop channel" coming soon.....
seriously though I've never thought about a sander and how they do different jobs ,as they say every day is a school day 👍
Reminded me of 'Karate Kid' when you demonstrated the path of the orbital sander with your hand ;-) wax on, wax off Peter-san.
😂😂👍
I love my mirka sanders. I have the rts but the abrasive choice is terrible. I use the deos with the bigger pad and 3m cubitron. Sacrifice some dust collection, but it's great abrasive.
I'll echo my comments from your ig post: I'm looking forward to you impressions over time. Mirka's price in the US and reliability concerns kept me from them when I sold all my cheap sanders and invested in the festool ETS EC150/5 and RTS 400. The Deros (6" with 5mm stroke) is $140 more than the ETS EC 150/5 in the US, and the Deos is $220 more than the RTS 400. That's almost a second RTS 400 lol
I'm sure they're great sanders if they last, but woof! those prices...
Odd to hear it, but festool is the better value in this instance.
Those are expensive! Having said that, if you use them to make a living I suppose that would justify the expense.
Loved my Deros, just a shame their motors are so prone to melting and expensive to replace.
Mirka brand - love to hate!Rupes is from Italy and they make superb power tools! Not cheap but worth it!Mirka is good but too many people were not impressed with their electronics failing!
Exactly! 👍
@@10MinuteWorkshop Thank you for your response.I am just a DIY person and use Dewalt random orbital sander and Fein for tricky areas which is I must say an excellent machine.Keep up the good work Peter!
Honestly festool are missing a huge trick from mirka, they could be making a full line of sanders based of the ETS EC body. An electric 77mm orbital, delta and a square sheet sander all in the same shape would be killer. I wish I liked the mirka enough to buy a deos, just as good a sander as the festool but the ergonomics and the brake make me wanna pull my hair out
For £450s you can hire a little guy with book of sandpaper to do it for you.😂👍
Hi Peter, Ive been looking at the Deos. Im I right in saying there's 3/4 different size machines or Im I looking at the wrong machine?
They make a few different versions, with different pad sizes and shapes yes. This one is the 81 x 133mm size - same as the RTS400, the Rupes LE71t and the Bosch GSS 160. 👍
Thanks Peter
I'm sure this will be an interesting long term test, and may possibly go some way to reassure people about the reliability issues with the mirka brand.
Personally I still wouldn't swap my Festool Sanders for Mirka, because almost everything else I use at my mft benches or outdoors has a Festool plug-it cable, and my extractor hoses either have the integrated cable or one securely attached with Velcro straps. I'm too old, impatient and lazy to keep swapping cables all day!
The other thing that bothers me as well as outright reliability, is the anecdotal evidence about the lack of customer service, if there is a problem. No doubt Mirka have their fingers crossed that your two machines will last the course without incident, and I don't doubt that if there is a problem you will get first class service. But I KNOW from experience that Festool UK service is excellent, regardless of whether you are a TH-camr doing a review or just a regular Joe on a building site!
Cheers David. If I have an issue with the Mirkas I wont be contacting the marketing department, that's for sure! I bought these, I want to see what the customer service is like if there's an issue, and I know Keith Brown @ragnbonebrown had pretty poor customer service when his Deros died. 🤷♂️
Don't worry Kids... Peter wasn't trying to Breakdance! his hip can't take it anymore...
I’ll have you, know my hips are fine! My knees on the other hand… 😯😂😂
Are you planning to update us on living with the Mirkas for a year? I'd love to hear about it. Seriously considering a Deos as my first and last finishing sander purchase
Yes, not the next video but probably the one after. Spoiler; they’ve been flawless. 👍
@@10MinuteWorkshop very cool! Do you find that you've developed a preference between Mirka and Festool?
Right now, I'm actually more between Mirka and Surfprep... That lower profile counts for a lot for the nature of my work
Great vid! I would love to see a comparison between the Deros and the Metabo SXE 150-5.0 BL. They look the same, specs are the same, but the Metabo is cheaper.
I suspect the Metabo is the older (pre-bluetooth) version of the Mirka; I did ask if it was made under license, or rebadged by Mirka, but they said that was all under an NDA. 🤷♂️
What is the 'sideways' clamp that you are using there, Peter?

@10minuteworkshop Peter, how is the mft jig production going? I tried the woodpecker jig over here in the states and the thing is total trash. My fog holes migrated 1/2in over 6 feet.
Still testing router bits at the moment. It’s coming though…. 👍
If you can find it in the UK you should try the 3M Xtract random orbital sander with Xtract Cubitron II net disc paper.
I have some cubitron to try out, but I’ve just spent a chunk on these two, so it’ll be a while before I want another sander! 😂👍
@@10MinuteWorkshop I completely understand. My thought was for something to try in the future.
Hi Peter! Thanks for your great job on YT. I didn't know that brand before so thanks for reveal it. Have you any experience with vacuum cleaners from them (Festool systainer compatibility I see)?
Greetings from Poland!
Thank you! I'm afraid I've only ever used the Mirka extractors at their facility, so I dont have much experience of them; from what I can see, systainers will only attach using set of additional 'case fastening' clips.
HTH Peter
@@10MinuteWorkshop I do appreciate your answer. You seem to be very busy man! I'm your fan since about two years.
Good resting!

I am looking at buying a Orbital sander soon, maybe this year (Harrogate Show) - top of my list is between Mirka & Festool. Also dust extraction systems they come with. Cost does play a big part in my decision which to buy. I've seen poor reviews with regards the Mirka and reliability (Keith rag'n'bone Brown) included? Thanks Peter, just wondered which you prefer? Or its too soon to say?
Too soon to stay - the Mirkas only arrived this week! They feel great in the hand, but can’t attest to the longevity. 👍🤷♂️
Do you have a suggestion for face frames.
Also I am looking at getting a dust extractor and am between the Midi and the 48 AC. Rather the size of the Midi but keep thinking I would like auto clean but don't do drywall. Do you ever wish or need auto clean.
Orbital sander for face frames - smaller, better suited to that kind of more detaiuled work. I'm a very happy Midi (bluetooth) user, never wished I had autoclean, no. 👍
@@10MinuteWorkshop awesome thank you. I am going to let that be my decision, otherwise I will be debating this time next year. Thank you for very much for your help.
cable keeps slipping out of my deros. maaaasive pain in the balls! not the most robust of things
No, that’s what I’ve heard, and why I want to do the longer term test. 👍
Thanks Peter,
Does the mirka have its own dust extraction like festool?
I believe festool dust extraction is the top dog for dust management?
Cheers Scott. At this level exemplary dust extraction is a given; the Mirka sanders work, perfectly with the Festool extractors, though Mirka also make matching extractors themselves. 👍
@@10MinuteWorkshop thanks again , my erbauer random an dust shop isn’t hood enough at all.
My Mirka dust extractor is awesome it works amazing.
Interesting Video Peter, will be good to see how they perform over the coming months. I hope you Laundered that money before you put it in your mouth 😁.
If you’re going to catch anything, you might as well catch it off money! 😂
Hi Peter I have the merka deros and it is a very good machine but reliability is not that good both my merka sander and hover are now broken after around 3 years of use but not used every day I won't be sending them back for repair as the spare parts are ridiculously expensive very much like the greko ultra battery spraying spraying machine work well but not made to last and very expensive
Sad to say that this was quite a common story from the Deros of that vintage - and what prompted me to do this long term test. 8+ months into it and both the Deros and Deos have been solid, with no issues at all. 👍👍
@@10MinuteWorkshop do you think they have solved the issue with the sanders of my age
I’ve been using a Makita random orbital and a Bosch square orbital and they are both “fine” however I have been looking to upgrade for a while now, the little dust port on my Bosch has been broken for a long time and my Makita is still going strong but after trying out a friends Festool equivalent (can’t remember the model name) I was actually really shocked by how much better it was. Sanding results were the same (to my eye anyway) but the sanding itself felt so much easier, I felt like I could use it for hours on end and not suffer from the vibrations or have to exert barely any pressure at all compared to my Makita. I’ve been tempted to pull the trigger on buying the Festool equivalent to my sanders but I’m also toying with the idea of Mirka, however I don’t have any friends or work colleagues who use Mirka so it’s difficult to actually try them hands on. In your opinion if you had to recommend one or the other which do you think would be the best investment for someone in my situation?
For a bit of background I’m an English finish carpenter based in Southern California in the states, I do all things finish carpentry and mainly work on remodeling existing homes. Materials wise a bit of everything but a lot of pine, oak, and then ipe when doing outside decks and fences, a lot of cedar when outside as well but I’m rarely sanding cedar. Any advice from anyone is appreciated!
Wow, tough call! The Festool ETS EC is closest to the Mirka, and I honestly think you'd be fine with either one. You have the choice of two pads with the Mirka, which is a winner, but I know a lot of folks who've had a deros die on them way sooner than they expected, for the usage they had - check out my Deros video, link in the description, for links to those guys.
@@10MinuteWorkshop Thank you for the advice! I actually didn’t know you had a deros video until watching this video so I’ll be sure to check it out later. I am gravitating towards the Festool as I’ve tried it and everyone I know who has one loves it, but just wanted to be sure committing hundreds of dollars! I have heard bad things about the durability of the Mirka like you say, however as long as there’s a decent warranty and good reputation for customer service I’m not too much of a stickler for durability as I really look after all my tools and in general. My Fein multi-tool was a big upgrade for me from a makita one and it died too soon, but it was within warranty and true to their word they sent me a brand new one with at least 15 different new blades and sanding pads! Hopefully If I go the Mirka route they would be the same (fingers crossed lol) thank you for the advice and fast reply, I look forward to watching more of your videos
What model of makita are you talking about?
@@riba2233 I believe it’s a BO5030K. Comes in a box which is a big plus nowadays however it’s a weird shape box that doesn’t fit anywhere in my tool storage lol that’s the best way to spot it online
@@ryanwinchester6644 thanks, I was eyeing that one! Runs for 200 euro in local store which is not a bad price
👍
Been using mika for over 10 years now it's brilliant only amateurs will hate mika
Amateurs do hate Mika, pro's love Mirka
🤔
I save my 'hate' for things that count, and sanders are way down that list...
👌👌👌👌
I wish Festool would make a rectangular version of their ETS EC sanders so we could get something like that Mirka or the SurfPrep sander. Low profile, 3mm stroke.
Money Maketh Man
Nice explanations. I have no intention of sanding that shit mind.
Here is my random orbital comment!
200k before 2023??
The “good” kind of inflation :-)
My brain must have been in 'dim' mode, Peter. Can I conclude that dust extraction doesn't just get the muck out of the way but actually improves performance too?
It improves performance *by* getting the muck out of the way, Keith. 👍
you say i give away .wel can you give it tou me ???????

😂 What, to buy two Mirkas?? That'll be the day...
The 3M is far better !
They don't make an RTS400 / Deos equivalent though, do they? I would like to try their 150/5 RO sander, but that'll have to wait until the Mirka breaks - so anytime, really! 😂
@@10MinuteWorkshop 3m extract is what i would be buying . Just based on not ever wanting to deal with Mirka warranties! And the 3m is dramatically quieter
Nice review ! A real quick web search has DEOS353 around US$510 on the west side of the pond. Looking fwd to your long(er) term impressions.
