Never have I ever heard this beautiful piece of music, sang by Paul McCartney and I'm 70 yrs. old and already I'm in love with it 😍💕💓❤. Not surprising, though, as I'm in love with all of his music. And, yes he really did love the farm that he and Linda lived on when they got married and had kids. What I heard was this land was where a Scottish king once lived during the "middle ages". He was supposed to be a great Scottish ruler, and this song became a great Scottish Folk song that was sang through the ages about this once great Scottish leader. This song, in my opinion is the best I have heard since the Beatles broke up and went their own way. Love it 😀

I remember when this song came out.. it was number 1 in New Zealand for 9 weeks. Goose bumps when the bag pipes kick in half way through the song. Paul played it in Auckland NZ in December 2017. He said he had to play it in NZ as it was so popular here. You are right, this song does not get enough credit.. it's under rated.. however if you go through his Wings songs there are so many under rated songs in there also. Hope you get to review these... take the whole Band on the Run Album from 1973 with songs like Jet, Band on the Run, Mrs Vandebilt, Helen Wheels, 1985... all amazing songs. Typical Paul stuff.

Another Paul McCartney song you might want to react to is his tribute to his friend John Lennon (after he was murdered). It’s called “Here Today”. Love your reactions. 🌺✌️

Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey (Nº 1 in US) from Ram album ( Ram was ahead of its time !!! , in 1971 they say it was really bad ( critics were mad at Paul , blaming him for the end of the Beatles), and when Paul did the remaster version they discover that it was a true Masterpiece , absolute beautiful kinds of melodies

I knew this song when it first came out. The video I've seen I don't know how many hundreds of times. Each time, I think oh, this is old hat, but every time I find myself weeping. Don't tell anybody. Btw, all the people you see coming to and surrounding the bon fire were Paul and Linda's neighbors. The two little girls you see playing near the rocks by the sea are young Mary and Stella McCartney.

I love how excited you got. Youre right : this song is amazing and it grabs at the heart. Whenever I hear the bagpipes I get teary eyed. I love bagpipes. Paul IS a superb song writer and musician and singer. I remember when he came out with his first solo album, right during the time the Beatles were breaking up and he and Linda lived in that sheep farm in Scotland. They lived right at Kintyre, which is why he has such love for that land, even though he was born in England . This is what I want played at my funeral .

Every time I hear this song is going to be played.....the upside-down part of my brain say's..."oh no....here comes the one with the instrument that sounds like a pile of cats being stepped on"......and each and every time I realize how wrong I am. I'm always left with a sense of awe. I can be such a retard sometimes. It's a gorgeous piece. He's such a versatile artist.......to write something like this.....I can hardly imagine. I think if they took a sample of him they'd find he is 5% flesh and blood 20% water and the rest pure music. The crazy thing is.....he was NEVER musically trained!!! What the hell!!!???!!!....way over 400 songs later!!!???!!! Paul said he considered his approach to music "primitive". .....like the primitive cave artist who drew without any training. Can you imagine what he'd have done if he'd been trained????!!! On second thought.... better that he wasn't......we'd have missed out on his raw brilliance. I have a 2 disc operatic work Paul and Carl Davis did along with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra along with may others....."Liverpool Oratorio"....hearing this reminds me I haven't played it in awhile.....think I'll do so now. Thanks once again for another wonderful reaction. See you soon......if I don't fall asleep in this chair again. What a bonehead 💖🎹💖🎼💖👍💖🎻💖🌈💖🎸💖🤣😄🤪😉🙃😵😜😵

The irony of this song (which became Paul's biggest domestic hit - and the biggest selling single in Britain - since The Beatles' 'She Loves You' in 1963) is that it became identified with Christmas simply because it stayed at the top of the UK chart over the festive season - but his actual Christmas single 'Wonderful Christmastime' released the following year - which is still played everywhere here during the yuletide - has probably earned him more overall. 'Mull of Kintyre' is such an obviously British folk sound that it meant very little in the United States, so I don't know how often he's played it live. Not enough, would be my answer.

The song didn't do well because Capitol (subsidiary of EMI) it wasn't enough marketing. Without the marketing, radio stations were confused which song was the A side and assumed the B side (Girl's School) since it was the rocker. Bagpipes being played in the US was not and still isn't a common thing. Videos weren't as common then and people were confused why their was a video of this song and not the actual B side. It was also not attached to an album which is unusual for the US market. Capitol records really screwed this one up. No one was anywhere near producing songs like Mull of Kintyre. Punk rock was coming in and the world was still in the middle of disco. Paul said in an interview he realized their were no Scottish folk songs and decided he would write one himself. The song must have been an engineering nightmare because the bagpipes are so loud and the vocals with guitars would have had to put upfront as much as possible. If I'm remembering correctly the sing was engineered by Geoff Emirck who was the engineer for most of the Beatles music and engineered Band On The Run. When those bagpipes come in I lose it everytime and it sounds as fresh to me now as it did in 1977.

Thanks a lot for these special request, I love these song si much (in my Top 5 of Him as solo career)
"Mull of Kintyre" is a beauty of song and one more surprise of the musical versatility of Paul McCartney
only He can think of making such a piece with the inclusion of a bagpipe orchestra And the result is amazing, a true Masterpiece
This song was the long-awaited #1 that Paul McCartney was looking for in his native England And it had a special award Not only was it #1 for 9 weeks, but it was the best-selling single in the entire 70s in the UK, beating the record from "She loves you" by The Beatles in the previous decade
for a new reaction I want to suggest and propose
    "Live and let Die" (1973)
It was the soundtrack of the homonymous film of the James Bond saga
Here is the link, which is from a Paul McCartney TV special and includes images from the film

The two little girls you see down by the water are Mary and Stella, their daughters, and Linda was carrying newborn baby James when she walked from the cottage to where Paul was perched on the fence. At the end when they are by the bonfire, you will see a face behind and between Paul and Linda, that is Heather, Linda's daughter from her first marriage, but Paul adopted her. LOVE Mull of Kintyre and all things having to do with Scotland, especially bagpipes.

Still lovin' your reactions (and analyses are getting better too!). Don't forget to check out Paul's 'Here Today' ! Incidentally, Paul and John each did songs about the Irish 'troubles' about the time of Mull of Kintyre, Paul did 'Give Ireland Back to the Irish' and John did 'Luck of the Irish' and 'Sunday, Bloody Sunday'..
Also, since you loved Paul's 'My Love', check out John's 'Oh My Love', 'Woman', 'Aisumasen'', 'Love is Real', 'I'm Just A Jealous Guy', 'Out of the Blue', '#9 Dream', all are immortal, beautiful, tender love ballads.

The best-selling single in the UK in the '70s, Paul owns a farm on the Mull of Kintyre. The Pipe & Drum band are the local Pipe & Drum band from Cambletown, as are the people who join them in the latter part of the video.
The only naughty thing Paul did with this song was when Denny Laine ran into financial difficulties in the '80s, instead of offering him help against future royalties, he said he'd help if Denny sold him his half of the song. So Denny no longer earns anything from this song because he asked Paul if he'd help him out.

This song came out in the midst of disco music fever and is as such a very anti- hype and it is basically only someone like Paul McCartney who can pull that off and make a song that top the charts at that time with a song that is definitely not disco. It is one of my favorite songs although I must admit that I have lots of songs that I think of as favorite songs and quite a lot of them are by the Beatles but this is definitely one of them.
